East Coast Wrestling Association
The Next Level in Wrestling

East Coast Wrestling Association is a holdover from the days when wrestling were regional and reigned over their territory like fiefdoms.  But with the rise of TV and PPV, local outfits have died away or struggled to keep their territories alive, often having to expand their reach to keep enough butts in the seat.  When the company was going under, a new seller came in to buy it from the original founder, the wrestler well known throughout Japan and Europe but relatively unknown since the early 90’s in the states.  Having retired, this is his newest project to bring back the old school style of wrestling form the 80’s and 90’s where wrestling was flashy and audiences could trust in being entertained with a manly soap opera story.

The ECWA was the first to make waves allowing mixed matches on a regular basis along with pushing the boundaries both in and out of the ring.  Thanks to clips circulating on the internet and rabid local fans, their base in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland have been expanding.  They are in demand and looking to grow into new markets and build the operation even bigger.

A year ago the young, regional promotion made the news, and waves, in the industry when The Enigma Brynn Jacobs took the Mid-Atlantic Championship belt in a three way match.  In a storyline where management tried to strip it from them for their conduct, though it was really because the owner wanted to redesign the title, The Enigma redesigned the title and dubbed it the Intergalactic Title.  As one of the first openly non-binary wrestler, the storyline drew a lot of heat and press so the quirky title remained in circulation, though unofficial, even after the new redesigned Mid-Atlantic title was reintroduced in a series of elimination matches to determine the winner.  Brynn kept up the quest to show the power of the title, and its champion, defending it against male or female opponents.

But after a serious accident ruined Brynn’s career, the title sat for a month before management decided to make it official by putting it up in the first ever Brynn Jacobs Intergalactic tournament.  Most still view it as a joke title so there is not as much competition for it though Brynn is pushing behind the scenes some storylines to make it have a place in the growing wrestling company.

Current League Info

The organization got its name in front of a lot of people with the controversy over the Intergalactic Title and its champion. But they didn't have the financial backing or resources at the time to capitalize on the influx of eyes. Certainly the social media team was pushing things to their YouTube and other socials but that didn't really put money in the pockets of the promotion. But the buzz began to die down after Enigma's accident and forced retirement making it impossible to push the intended storylines through.

Still, the notoriety got the organization's name out there enough that deals were able to be made down the road. Having secured some backing, and loans, ownership made a number of deals. A weekly slot on the Fox affiliate in Philadelphia meant they could invest in better production value. This let them secure a deal through a Japanese wrestling organization to have their show put on the air following their own. It helped to build up hype with Japanese wrestlers and fans for future collaborations.

With Maximilian Kincaid, AKA Maximilian Dark, on the rooster, he was pulled into creative as more ideas on how to make the growing outfit stand out.  Because of his fetish club, he had many contacts in the BDSM community in Philadelphia they could pull in to design unique storylines.  The first Slave for a Week stipulation was added to a mixed tag team match shortly after with collars and other accoutrements ready for the wrestlers afterwards.  The wrestlers were required to post at least a few videos with everyone in character and dressed up, even visiting Max’s club for a racy post.

Soon, such stipulations became fairly common along with other ideas like spankings or various sessions that would get some bit posted.  It got a buzz around it where some wrestlers started to add BDSM gear into their ring gear.  Some old school wrestlers found it distasteful but the higher ups didn’t care, they wanted to break new ground and make waves.  Their open attitude and embracing alternative lifestyles has gotten them a lot of traction and made the promotion grow to where they are now eying the idea of a pay per view.  They are constantly working on making the entire league a merging of old school and nu school, sprinkling it with an east coast attitude.

This is an interest check in ECWA, a wrestling simulation mixed with a freeform game.  It is inspired by the likes of ECW with perhaps a little of the early AEW, a reborn federation looking to be something bigger than an intendent and join the larger organizations.  The freeform part of the game would be following along the lines of Heels TV show and The Iron Claw movie, exploring the reality behind the mask of wrestling, what is called kayfabe in the business.  The wrestling part will use a loose system to represent multiple things in a match and promos/mic work.  Non-title matches can be decided among the writers as far as ending but otherwise the rolls will determine the winner in those matches.  I think we'd need a decent amount of interest to be able to pull of a decent simulation of matches so just want to test the waters before I put more work into the idea.

I have written in some options to have BDSM elements in gimmicks and for promos that end up running outside of them as part of kayfabe or being caught in the moment, but they are not mandatory.  It would simply be an option to those who want to use those elements.  Because the administration of the league talks about them being about wrestling not sports entertainment, not everyone is happy with this turn backstage, hence why some would avoid this entirely.  The league is built on much of what those in ECW and other older promoters have talked about how ‘wrestling’ and ‘sports entertainment’ of today are completely different, opposite of each other even.

Wrestlers should be either people who’ve been playing on the indie circuit or had tried with one of the big boys and failed, perhaps with a failed gimmick or just didn’t get pushed, just did some house shows as a jobber.  They should not be the megastars then or now, though their star will hopefully rise with the league.  In addition to wrestlers there are managers/valets people can run as well.  Beyond that, for people who don’t want to participate with the wrestling simulation, or want a character outside of that, there are referees, announce staff, camera men and other staff.

The game will use a system for matches but more to simulate the audience and such, though it can also be used to determine the winner if both players and Creative cannot come to a resolve on who should be the winner.  While the drama parts will have a whole month to play with, each week of wrestling will roll out once every two weeks, consisting of one or two travel shows and one TV taping in the ECWA arena.

Kayfabe: Keeping up the illusion that pro wrestling is not scripted. This is a complicated concept, but the basis of kayfabe is wrestlers making sure that the fans believe that what they are seeing is 100 percent real and not scripted or “fake” in any fashion.
