I tried signing in, and it keeps saying it can't connect.

Well, their server status page (http://heartbeat.skype.com/) says they're all green, and you're apparently able to connect to the internet because you can post here, so that eliminates some of the basics.  Is it a very recent problem?

I know L and I have been having issues with logging onto Skype too. Both changed PWs and stuff too. I think he uninstalled/reinstalled it, and I had to restart my computer.

Make sure you have updated to the most recent version. They had a update recently.

Make sure you DO NOT!!! have the most recent version!

The most recent version of Skype is full of bugs and has so many features that simply do not work!

I updated skype on my comp recently and it now will not let me find a new contact! I had to log in on my wife's laptop to add the contact, in order top take an online interview!

Seriously, they need to fix all the bugs or revert to the previous version!
