Would anyone care for a bit of Masque of the Red Death (Ravenloft)?

Before you jump from joy, let me to tell you that I don't have a campaign thought up or anything such, I'm just seeing if there is intrest enough to make me come up with one.

I would very much like to run a game of it, I'm fairly open towards where it would be set and what it would be about though.

Masque of the Red Death, for those of you who havent heard of it, is sort of a sequel to the Ravenloft setting, DnD 3.5 at the moment. It takes place on alternative earth ano 1890, very gothic horror and doing the whole Victorian thing is fairly optional considering that a game can be placed anywhere on earth. It takes it's name from an Edgar Allan Poe novel, which makes it very promising  ;)  If you like Frankenstein, Dracula and Dorian Grey for example, Masque of the Red Death might be good.

If it seems intresting I might just have something...

o.O Oh, oh my. Nice to know that people like Ravenloft. Hm maybe I should run a pure Ravenloft game too but then again, Masque of the Red Death is so hard to find...

Swedish Steel

"Varför måste jag välja?" ;)
Why don't run both, I'd be game. :)

A pure Ravenloft game would be even more Swoonworthy for me...I've got the core books.  However, I would be thrilled with either.

It sounds fantastic... I'm particularly interested in the notion of a Victorian or (looks around carefully and whispers so the wrong people don't hear) steampunk setting.

*Waves to Ida.*

I'd prefer a traditional ravenloft game, Gilbert misses you very much, but I'd try Masque of Red Death.

Okay :D

I'll start the planning then.

BTW, any specific suggestions? I heard one voice for the typical Victorian which is always nice... Anyone else? Settlers in the West? Explorers of the deepest Africa (still unexplored and mysterious in this world)? London high society? Country side horror?

Swedish Steel

I vote for Victorian London myself, but that shouldn't have to exclude the other setting, we could be a well traveled group. :)
Braving the Deep, Dark Africa could be fun for example.

Victorian works for me, but if we find ourselves in other locations as well, I wouldn't mind.

Wow... the anglo-world-view of that era opens up a lot of possibilities, doesn't it?
I agree with London, with a combination of settings for the social elite and the street urchin... industrial districts, catacombs across Europe, travel to India and Hong Kong..?  Just throwing out ideas.

In case it helps, should you decide to concentrate the timeline on the 1890's era... this provides a helpful snapshot of the decade.

If not, well... what Swedish posted works for me.

I'm really excited about the idea, regardless.

Quite honestly, I'm just delighted to have the opportunity.  It wouldn't take a lot to make me happy setting wise.

Oh thank you Caustic, that will be helpfull I think.

Hmmm, I'll make London the starting point and then from there, the group might go on different journeys with our without visiting in between.

And Swede, that picture will only inspire me of thinking up Houses of Ill Reputée, dens of sin and... Oh wait, those are not threats...

Wow an actuall Ravenloft game.  I'm scared, it's been forever since I even thought about Ravenloft...  Especially some where like here.

Will do, will do.

Well Nanokihara, it's sort of Ravenloft but not the Ravenloft world. The main evil in the world is a being that came from Ravenloft into an alternative Earth millenia ago and has been plotting from the shadows to take over the world. It uses some of the rules from Ravenloft and the atmosphere is rather alike.

AmberMK

So is this going to be hardcore system, or just loosely based on one?

Swedish Steel

Just asked her. Seemed it will be loosly based, previous experience good but not required. But maybe I'll let her answer herself, but that was the impression I got.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.  You can just call me Nano, every one else is.  Ravenloft was a strange game, but I always seemed to fit in, but I haven't played in forever.

I might be interested in joining.  I'm not familiar with it either, but the setting sounds cool.

In general I tend to use rules as more guidelines for what can be done. Considering that Masque of the Red Death is kind of obscure and rare, I'm going heavily with the customized character thing, you come up with a concept and I'll advice you on how to make it happen.  If you know a bit about DnD 3.5 or is willing to be attentative and learn, then it's all good. If you have played Masque of the Red Death before, I will be overjoyed. But I will be just as happy if you just tell me that you liked Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Okay Nano it is.

Chrissa, that's what drew me to Ravenloft and then Masque of the Red Death in the first place.  :)

Idachan

Oh crap, I forgot to mention it.

I have an idea for how to start us up but I'll need a couple of days for writing it down and getting a grip of it. Once I post the add though, I will have some general info on new skills, feats and the classes as well as links to contemporary resources.

And, I'm not going to get away with Midtones, am I?

I very much doubt it.  ;)

Ida-chan, is there any chance I could play a Leogynanos?  A were-lioness?  Sort of a great white huntress who was infected by a neutral were-lioness in africa and is slowly gaining control of the change?
