Star Light, Star Bright

Date: June 7, 8 pm - 10 pm
Wish I May. Wish I Might. Have The Wish. I Wish Tonight.

Guests are invited to enjoy a relaxing night underneath the eternal gaze of the stars. Walk down a sand covered path, set aglow by torchlight, and find yourself at our handmade observatory. Here, the night is filled with the whispers of wind against sand along with light classical music played from unseen speakers.

Day passed into night at Caravanserai. All around the hotel, guests explored its vast offerings. Some took refuge from the sun in its cool pools while others relished the heat, bathing in its warmth.

Newer guests would learn that Caravanserai remained just as active in its nighttime offerings. While the previous night highlighted an evening of concealed identities, tonight featured a rather laid-back event in comparison.

Caravanserai’s observatory was one of a kind. Though small, it offered a vast canvas of starlight in which to observe and marvel at. In order to reach its lounging area, one must walk through tight, ringed walls, composed entirely of brick, and up a few stairs. The passageway is tight so it only permits one person at a time rather than clusters of people.

Once one reaches the lounge area, they will find comfortable sitting and blankets if they become cold. An attendant stands at the ready to offer assistance if any is needed with the telescope. Binoculars are also available for viewing of the night sky. Handouts, detailing the basics of astronomy, will also be handed out to the observatory's visitors.

Keep your secrets.
Keep your silence.
It is a better gift than truth. -- Anne Rice

The sun no longer sat atop its azure throne, positioned at the center of the sky. As the hours slipped by, a more welcoming heat embraced deserters and non-deserters alike rather than sought to set their skin ablaze with ancient fire. As such, the song changed from one created by the slither of sand and complaining bleats of fickle camels to the various clicks and rattles of reptilian creatures. Many of the creatures which remained hidden during the day escaped their burrows in the evening to search for food...or become food.

Inside of Caravanserai, the hotel had no period of calm. The opening, thus far, had been successful, complete with unexpected arrivals and mostly satisfied customers. Those of the staff, who were able, abandoned their primary duties a little early in order to assist with the final touches to the event hall.

Already, the previously empty hall was transformed from former blandness into the embodiment of modern meets gothic. None really knew what Ruby meant when she proclaimed the party’s theme until she sprouted off comments about being enamored with the supernatural, from the devilish antics of the fae to the eternal elegance of vampires. From that description, a evening which celebrated darkness was born!

At one side of the hall, there were white linen covered tables, filled with exquisite dinner plates, shining, gleaming silverware, and glowing candles. Ornate centerpieces, made of orchids and black feathers, added extra flair to each table. A stage sat at the center of the hall, complete with a podium for speakers and instruments where live entertainment would fill the hall with music for dancers. Cover songs were the band's specialty. They were prepared to take requests from any member of guests or just play from their select songs. In addition, there was a sweets table in the corner, piled high with freshly baked, bite sized goodies for guests to indulge themselves throughout the night.

If that was not enough to keep people happy, there were more engaging activities in another corner of the hall. It was here guests could take photos of by themselves or with friends made during the night using props of fake bats or disposable vampire teeth. Those daring enough to peer into the future would find a tarot card reader as well.

Prior to entering the fun, all guests would need to stop by a desk just outside of the hall’s open doors. Staff members would take the names of each arrival and hand them a sheet of paper, explaining this was to be their secret for the night.

Darkness. Gothic Horror. Vampires. The sweet evil seduction of the night. A Becky knows not these things.

Sure, she knew of the dark summer nights in the American South, and that creepy feeling when the darkness seemed angry, and the fireflies were nowhere and the crickets were still. She knew of the strange looks you got in the wrong part of the backroads, and coming from a place that most people considered to be a backroads in the first place, what she thought qualified was quite something. But that was a different sort of darkness.

This was the darkness of red wine and black dresses, of refined, genteel evil. She didn't know this.

So, she put on a sexy dress and a pretty mask and hoped it would be dazzling enough that nobody would say anything. It worked for her typically when people wanted her in fancy attire. Show enough of the goods, nobody worries about the dress code. Of course she had a husband the last time she want to a party dressed like this. The lack of him would make this both more interesting and more fun. Hopefully in good ways.

So she would just walk in, make some friends and ... be the first one there. Of course.

Well, so much for that.

She quickly snapped up a glass of whatever was on hand, and saw she had to collect a secret before joining the party.

"Hey." She said with a shy, gentle, friendly wave to the attendant. "Secret?" She asked. This would be fun, a good excuse to talk to people. Just try not to blurt yours out two seconds into every conversation Becky.

Theodore was somewhat excited for tonight’s festivities. He enjoyed the occasional chance to show himself being capable of wearing clothes more complicated than a pair of sweats and tank top. Thinking of how impressed the others might be with his transformation, especially a certain someone, he slipped away from the final preparation crew and almost raced back to his room.

Once there, he shedded his clothes in the bathroom and tamed his facial hard with care strokes of a blade. Satisfaction took awhile to achieve but the results were worth his earlier frustration. Smoothing his fingers across the shortened hairs, Theo grinned at his reflection. Only once done with that did he hop into the shower and wash away the evidence of a labor filled afternoon. He tamed his unruly, blonde hair with firm strokes of a brush and then got dressed in one of his finer suits. Only the best tonight or the boss lady might massacre him with a single stare.

The last item he grabbed before heading out of the door was a simple black and gold mask he borrowed from the B&B. Ezekiel had been kind enough to lend it to him so long as his doing so was kept a secret.

Theodore learned of his responsibility for the night upon his arrival. He was not exactly pleased with the job but it was better than other ones, like being security. Sighing, he situated the mask onto his face and secured the string at the back of his head. A few minutes drifted by before the arrival of the first guest. His gaze skimmed across her body, lingering at the generous viewing of her breasts, before he forced his eyes up to her face.

“Hey,” Theodore said in response, clearing his throat with a small cough. “Wow. You’re gorgeous.” Recalling the reason why he was standing there in the first place, he picked up the top hat in front of him and held it out to her. Inside, there were tiny folded sheets of paper. “Yeah. Take one of those and that’s your secret for the night.”

Becky was quite pleased to receive a compliment from the rather well put together man who greeted her at the secrets table. She could tell that his hair was just a light shake away from coming completely wild and with his freshly trimmed face he looked a bit like a wild thing that had been fancied up for a special occasion. It was like she could tell sense he was normally a bit more rough around the edges than this. She bet that looked pretty good on him too, and so her eyes and mouth both smiled back as he let her know what he thought.

"Why thank you stranger you're not so bad yourself." She said with easy charm as she made a show of reaching in and fishing around "Aha!" She pulled out a secret and read it.

She instantly snickered, then held it to herself, then giggled again. Then her face broke into a grin "Oh that's just," she checked it again to make sure, obviously quite amused as she read it. "Okay. Got it." She said.

She then made sure she was watching as she slipped it into her dress so that it was pressed between her left breast and the tight dress. She'd never actually keep something there for any real length of time with this cut of dress, she just wanted him looking there. She was single. Shut up.

"So do you know all the secrets or do you have one of your own?" She flirted with him.

Breezy walked to the event hall, doing her best not to fall over in the four-inch heels she had bought at the Bits and Bobs shop with her dress. The last time she had worn heels, this high was her wedding dress fitting back states side. That felt like a lifetime ago, a life that never happened. Now she just had to get her fancy shoe legs back. She held her clutch purse by her side and found her way to the entrance. Everything looked gorgeous - black and mysterious just like the invite had been.

It seems she was slightly early which was fine by her. She liked to get a feel of things before all the fun got started. A beautiful woman in a striking blue dress was talking to a man in a suit and mask. He resembled the handsome blond man she had seen working at the front desk earlier. Talking to him before heading in seemed to be the thing to do so she walked that way.

Not wanting to interrupt their chatting, she stood back a few feet and eyed a sign that marked the events of the night. Best dressed, hmm? So far the lady in blue took the night. Breezy looked forward to gawking at all the pretty fashion on display. Honestly, she liked to watch more than she wanted to wear it all. The tarot reading sounded fun - maybe she would get a bit of insight into what she would do with her life after leaving the resort. And a secrets challenge? Now, Breezy was eager to find out what her secret would be and see how good she was at keeping it!

This was going to be interesting.

As soon as he had checked into his room and dropped his travel bags in his room, there was a small, discreet pamphlet upon the bed. There was an invitation to join a masked ball. There would be a best-dressed prize, as well as a secret each guest would have. A secret to keep, and other secrets to discover. So a night of intrigue. There was a light smile to his face. He hadn’t been in one of those things in years. He knew very little of the other guests or of the present staff, which would make things also quite different. This could be a nice way to have strangers to meet and speak with one another. The masks would both add a touch of both anonymity and eroticism. The suggestive glances, the curves and shapes of people around dimly lit banquet tables.

Sure, why not.

He had visited the clothing store, a place called B&B. The man there was not a salesman, he was an artisan. Khalil and he spent perhaps a half-hour together, speaking and figuring out an acceptable set of clothes for the evening. So the young man decided on a striped black-and-white suit, combined with a simple, asymmetrical, striped mask.

Checking his cufflinks, he looked at the time. It was 18:00. As was asked of him. He stepped towards the entrance, thanking the waiter who offered him a cocktail and taking the small glass graciously. Khalil wasn’t a drinker, but tonight was a special night. He could indulge just a little bit. Speaking of indulgence…

There was an absolutely breathtaking woman wearing a dark blue outfit with a detailed, sparkling venetian mask. She was speaking with the attendant. Oh, he had seen that man earlier in the day. Theodore. And another young lady, dressed in black… Oh, Khalil recognized that ruby-red hair. He also recognized that superb body, which she had paraded about in a skimpy swimsuit and an oversized hat when he first checked into the hotel. A sly smirk crossed his face as he actually picked another cocktail glass.

”Good evening.” He said to Brielle, in that smooth purring voice of his. Silently he offered her a cocktail. ”A stunning dress, Miss. It suits you.” He offered her his arm for her to hook her arm in. He offered her his arm, so that they would both walk towards the booth together.

And join in on the conversation between Becky and Theodore.

Joseph had left Mirage around an hour ago, and returned to his room. Upon returning to his room, he had found an ornate envelope at his door. A masquerade ball it had seemed. Formal wear required. Good thing he had taken care of that, at least. He would take the time to clean up, slick back his hair, get rid of the hint of bourbon and cigarettes on his breath. Unfortunately, he hadn't a masquerade mask, so he had stopped at Bits & Bobs...and that's where it got odd. A strange mask, he felt compelled, called towards it. And so, he bought it.

That mask was the one that now covering his face...one side of it anyway. The lingering of his conversation at Mirage, the time he spent dressing, the stop at the store, Joseph Edwards was fashionably late. Of course, then it happened to get even stranger. The woman in the blue dress...something about her seemed familiar. Something about her, in this room, with those people...her conversation partner, a woman with hair of fire in what could only be described as the stereotypical "little black dress"....

And then their male counterparts, dressed in fine suits, casually making conversation. This whole thing had a hauntingly odd feeling to it, and the black and red décor only served to make things even more menacing. Of course, Edwards forced himself to step into the room, despite every fiber of his being saying otherwise.

Breezy was admiring the lavish decorations that transformed the resorts hall to a mythical and gothic adult playground. Her mouth watered at the table of sweets and she wondered about when the last time she had eaten. Well, if tonight wasn't the kind of night to have desert for dinner, when was it? She let her eyes drift to the band that was setting to on stage when she heard a rich, accented voice over her shoulder. She blushed when she saw the man with the dark hair from earlier at the check-in desk. Oh my! Breezy thought, as she swallowed audibly. He had been wearing what seemed at quick glance to be a bikers jacket before, a look that had drawn her eye, but now he was a different kind of gorgeous in his suit. The way his hair fell over the edges of his mask just added to the effect.

"Well, hello there." She was smitted instantly. And suddenly in need of something to wet her parched throat. It just so happened that the man standing before her offered her a glass. She was half tempted to ask about it, he was a stranger after all, but then she saw the waiter walking around with similar flutes on a tray. "Thank you... and thank you." A blush extended down beyond the cover her mask as he complimented her on the dress. Breeze couldn't help but sway a little in it as she took a tiny sip of the cocktail. "It seemed fitting for the climate. And you, look very fetching." She reached up to adjust the flower pin that graced his lapel. There was nothing wrong with it really, it just gave her an excuse to touch him.

"I guess this is where we find out our secret, hmm?" Another small sip of her drink and she already felt bolder, taking his offered arm.

Jesse's blue eyes glittered from behind the mask as he began setting up glasses and wiping down the bar. Everything needed to be perfect. His hair hung about his shoulders and smile tugged at his lips as he watched the first few come in, looking absolutely stunning. There was something so mysterious and intriguing about masquerades and he couldn't help but be a bit delighted, even if he wasn't fully partaking in it.

After washing down the bar for the third time, he flung the towel over one of his shoulders, walking to the other end of the bar. He was not necessarily a tall man, but his heels made him stand at a little over six feet and even though he didn't think of it at the time, it gave a bit of a boost to be able to see all the glorious happenings (and people) better. People watching was one of his favorite things to do, along with mingling. Not to mention the decor was extravagant! Whoever decorated this place. Well, they deserved a raise, that's for sure.

Jesse walked with ease in the heels and it was obvious that it was by far his first time wearing such. He absolutely loved fashion and if heels went best with the outfit? Then heels it would be. At the other end of the bar, he began slicing lemons and limes, filling up a container for when they would inevitably be needed, as well as cherries and other fruits that often went in drinks. They couldn't be too prepared and he was sure it wouldn't be long before the crowd began to get thirsty.

Theodore’s dark brown eyes betrayed the fact that he enjoyed their conversation long before his full lips curved into a pleased grin. He had no idea who this woman was but their brief encounter had piqued his curiosity. Too bad he was stuck at this damn desk for the rest of the night or he would make an effort to learn more about her during the party. His ego wouldn’t let him feel discouraged though; he’d find time.

“I look shabby in comparison to you,” Theodore said in earnest before he laughed at her playful antics of searching the top hat for the right secret. “But thank you for your kind words.”

Theo then watched the she-devil as she slipped the small sheet of paper in between her breast and the blue dress. Fuck. His fingers tightened on the hat. She definitely knew how delectable she looked tonight. Again, he lifted his eyes where they should not have been in the first place.

“I have no idea what your secret might be but I’ll be the first to tell you mine.” Leaning across the table, he lowered his voice to a whisper. “Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve had a habit of trying to stick my hand in the cookie jar. My mam didn’t know what to do with me. A slap just didn’t work. Eventually, she gave up and the bad habit remained.” It was not a hotel provided secret but a real one.

Noticing a few more guests walking up to him, he pulled back and winked at her. “Have a wonderful night, Miss Blue.”

At that, he motioned over a redhead in black. “Lady Midnight,” he called to the woman dressed head to toe in gorgeous black. “I can help you now.” To the gentleman in pinstripe, he held up his hand, indicating for the man to wait back a little. Wouldn't want the woman's secret spoiled before she got the opportunity to read it herself.  “I’ll get to you in one moment.”

Becky couldn't help but grin as she could tell the effect she was having on Theodore. Ah, this felt good. This felt really good.

She could hear footsteps behind her, but she bent over the desk anyway to lean in and whisper to his secret. She knew how her dress would stretch over her from behind, she hoped whoever it was appreciated the view. She was certainly not complaining about what was in front of her. She smiled up at Theodore as he whispered his secret.

"Well," she whispered to him, "Maybe some day you and me can talk about that bad habit of yours." She attempted a wink, which ended up more like an awkward blink in the mask. She straightened up as she heard the others coming up behind her then and turned and smiled at her. "I'll let you get back to work." She said, putting a hand on his forearm and giving it a squeeze, she pulled it away slowly, letting her fingers drag across his sleeve as she turned away and saw who had got to watch her bend over.

Of course, two beautiful, very snazzily attired young people. Both looked much more appropriately dressed for this affair than her. She smiled at them, eyeing their getups. "Wow darling you look amazing, I love that dress!" She gushed to the woman, stepping forward and leaning in, "I'm Becky, nice to meet you!" She tried to do an air kiss near each of the red-headed beauty's cheeks. Both because she was trying to respect local customs and because it gave her and excuse to get nice and cozy with her for just a moment.  Mwah! Mwah!

"And you! Look at you!" She glanced the man up and down, admiring his style. "Wow, if they gave out the prize to a couple you two would win for sure!" Becky just assumed that they were together from how close they stood. She held out her hand to the man, but slowly, so that he could lean in for air kisses too if he liked. She wasn't entirely sure how it worked with men and was still paranoid about seeming uncultured.

She listened to their introductions with a smile, but was a little fidgety.

Because speaking of being uncultured, this dress really didn't have pockets in the cleavage and this paper was started to dig into her, pressed up against her sensitive flesh by the tight dress. "I'll let you get your secrets." She smiled at them and excused herself, wishing she had thought twice about tucking this paper in there.

But there was another man behind them, who she gave a smile to. "Hey!" She said in a voice that she hoped conveyed she hadn't stabbed herself in the boob with a piece of paper while trying to be sexy. "I'm sorry." She paused, and winced as she handed him her glass. "Hold that for a sec." She bent over slightly, pulling her dress forward and reaching into it, pulling out the paper and fixing herself, she crumpled up the paper and tossed it into a nearby wastebasket, basketball shot style. "She shoot she scores!" She beamed taking her glass back. "Hi I'm Becky." She said, extending her hand like he hadn't just done any of that.

Arm in arm, the two masked strangers sauntered forward. ”This may be where we are told one secret… I would assume that it is inside that we figure out how to keep it.” He glanced over at her from the corner of his eye. ”As far as any other secrets others will have this evening… Those seem like they are *all* fair game.” He flashed his pearly whites at her for a moment, moving down the hall with Brielle. They were accosted by the man at the reception desk for the banquet hall. In a gesture that was more reminiscent of a dancer temporarily parting ways with his dance partner, he agilely took her hand and stepped away, releasing her hand elegantly when her arm was nearly fully stretched. Khalil was, apparently, someone with a bit of knowledge of formal dancing. Or maybe he was just something of a showman… Or both.

The knockout raven-haired beauty walked over to both of them, greeting them with an enthusiasm that was contagious. She was beautiful and her dress clung to her for dear life, and she damn well knew it. She had all the exuberance of a woman who had just liberated herself from a heavy weight and just wanted to enjoy her life. He could understand that. When she seemed unsure on how to approach him to greet him, his dark eyes and curled smile answered for her. Gracefully, he took her hand, bent over slowly and, keeping his eyes locked to hers, kissed her hand. Not a single word was said, which added a little sprinkle of mystery to the moment.

With a devilish smile he stepped aside, smooth and quiet, allowing the ladies all the time and space they needed. Taking a slow sip of his cocktail, he glanced at her while feigning interest at the evening’s activities. Tarot reading could be good for a laugh, he guessed. “Do you have someone in your family whose name starts with the letter J? ...K?... L?” And so on and so forth, until the “fortune-teller’s cold read actually caught something. The audience leaning forward, the pupils dilating… When he was a child, he had listened religiously to the soothsayers. They claimed to see in the past and the future… But truth be told, what they said was so vague and unclear that it was just ludicrous to him when he crew a critical mind. But… It was entertainment. He would take it as such.

Shoulders against the wall behind him, cocktail glass in hand, one foot crossed over the other, he waited with a patience that was surprising. Most men, especially somewhat younger men, did not know the concept of patience. They wanted everything, immediately, RIGHT NOW. Khalil moved, spoke and lived like he had all the time in the world. Like every second would stretch on forever.

Yet another strange moment of what could really only be described as either premonition or Dèja Vu...the woman in the blue dress making her little basketball shot as he held her glass in his hand. He couldn't help but to crack a grin, watching as she seemingly tried to play it off as if nothing had happened."Edwards. Joseph Edwards." Joseph spoke in introduction, reciprocating the handshake.

"I do have to ask where you got your drink, I could use one myself." His eyes would reflexively move between the contours of her face and the window at the front of her azure garment, the deep blue complimenting both her skin tone and her curves, a softer shape compared to the broad planes of the body of Edwards. Her face seemed oddly familiar, and yet, he knew they had never met before this very moment.

Standing in front of Breezy and her newest acquaintance, the lady in blue bent forward to whisper something to their host. Breezy couldn't help but trail her eyes up from the woman's heels, along her toned legs, and over her... ahem. She found herself staring and started to wonder what kind of cocktails they were serving. Scrumptious, really. And the drink was good too.

The man she had spoken to was soon addressing Breezy in a mysterious tone that made her feel extra fancy. Lady Midnight? Perhaps she was allowed to be a bit more free in this outfit than she normally would be. That sense of easeshe felt and the stregnth of her drink might prove this to be a very exciting evening. She took a secret from the host's hat, thanked the masked man, and then spied at it just long enough to see what it said. Well, well. That would be interesting for others to guess for sure! She had just enough time to tuck the small slip of paper into her clutch while Khalil practically twirled her in the air as they parted for a moment. Her eyes tracked him with just a hint of sadness when ... muah! She found herslf face to face with the gorgeous woman herself.

With a blush and a giggle, she returning the compliment on the Lady in Blue's attire and attempting to match the air kisses. "It's very nice to meet you, Becky. I'm Breezy. And thanks, you look gorgeous!" She cleared her throat; a look was an understatement. Had she caught Breezy staring? She hoped not! Not someone who usually looked at women in any way sexual, it was still hard not to find the buxom gal attractive.

It was almost a relief when Becky started to fix her dress and walked over to greet a gentleman who had been standing behind herself and Khalil. She would definitely have to catch up with Becky later - to ask about her wardrobe and ... other things. If Breezy wasn't mistaken, she had been one of the ladies in the pool she had waved at earlier. But what of Khalil? Her thoughts drifted back to what he had said about secrets, and she scanned the room for where he had gone. Ah, there, by the wall.

"So... did you get your secret too?" Stepping over to rejoin him, she leaned in close as if to peek at his slip of paper but she knew it wouldn't be that easy. "I don't know how well I will play this game but... I take a fairly pretty picture if I do say so myself." She finished her drink and reached across him to set her glass on a nearby bartop. Breezy motioned toward the photo booth. Perhaps he would allow her to get a few snaps in with him before all her well-placed curls came undone. "Care to join me in the tiny booth?" It was not forgotten that they hadn't even exchanged names yet.

Then....

Becky had to admit, she found the man's silence rather intriguing. It just raised so many questions! Questions that she made up her mind to try to get answers to later. Or at least try. Or at least try to try. Or at least think about it right now and then not actually follow through. You know, one of the above. Her confidence didn't always last the whole night, no matter how great all the eyes on her were making her feel at the moment!

Speaking of which, ah, Breezy? "Damn right you are." Becky said with a smile back, letting the back of her knuckle trace along a strand of the woman's red hair as they slowly pulled away from each other. She recognized that look on her face. Oh yes. Normally Becky was the one wearing it, she knew it very well. Mmmm. Maybe this was the one to find out more about later. She almost regretted having to step aside and let them get their secrets.

Now...

"Oh I grabbed it when I walked in." She said with a smile. Perk of being a beautiful woman in a skimpy dress, there's always someone putting a drink in your hand. And a place like this you don't even have to worry about what's in it!

"But if you want, the bar's right over there. Once you've got your secret maybe that's where you should head?" She took a sip from her glass. "Speaking of which...." She gave him a smile and reached out and squeezed his hand. "Nice meeting you Joseph, see you around!" She said happily, then turned and walked away from him as attractively as she could manage.

She made it to the bar, maintaining her aura of easy, confident, sensuality the whole time. It was only when she finally reached it that she slumped over the bar and her face took on a "freaking out" look as she beckoned the bartender over frantically, setting her empty glass and purse there.

"Okay, Hi!" She said, not the tone at all of a woman speaking to a servant but one of the people addressing one of her working class equals as she broke cover from her infiltration of the well to do. "My name's Becky!" She said introducing herself quickly, but there was no time for chit chat as she whispered desperately, "I need a drink for a girl who's trying to act classier than she is and needs to keep it going. Like, I don't know what that is, but you know something like -" she said, speaking with her hands, waving them at the elbow as she stood at the bar. She stopped talking as she had happened to glance down and see his heels. "Oh wow those are nice!" She said, almost doing a double take, genuinely impressed and caught off guard.

Damn, the bartender is wearing nicer heels than me! She thought, another sting at her pride. No, no, keep it up, there's nothing wrong with that Becky, she chided herself. He'll know a drink that will fix this, bartenders always do!

He had just set the containers of various fruits along the bar when a lovely lady approached the bar. An easy smile pressed at his lips as he moved over across from her, blue eyes staring into hers for a moment before straying just a bit downward and then back up. She was absolutely beautiful. The dress was one that was unexpected for the event and therefore made her absolutely intriguing.

As she tried to explain what she wanted, a soft chuckled rumbled from his chest, it was not derogatory but more slightly amused and understanding. Ah yes, it was obvious the pressure of the event was getting to her. It was understandable given the whole mood of it all. "I know just the thing." He smiled and gave her a small wink as he grabbed the fanciest glass they had and set it in front of her and started to gather the liquor.

"For what it's worth, I think you look classy regardless of what you hold in your hand." As he began adding things to the glass, he glanced up at her, moving over to the fruit and gazing at them intently as he decided what to add in.

As the shoes were mentioned, he held out his leg and looked down at them for just a moment. "Thank you. They really just were too perfect for the outfit. I couldn't help myself." He said easily as he began grabbing out fruit from the containers. Taking a knife he began peeling the lime, setting the rind curl aside and popping the actual lime part into his mouth playfully, trying to help put her at ease.

It had taken a bit of time but eventually he had finished, and pushed the cocktail toward her, hoping it would help boost her confidence. "I can't promise that it will taste fantastic, but it's the prettiest drink I know off the top of my head." He ran his fingers through his hair with a bit of a bashful shrug, his eyes meeting hers once again as he began placing the liquors back into their rightful place.

JJ's reaction set her at ease. Slightly. She wasn't in a mindset that she could really be made to relax with just a sympathetic smile, but it sure didn't hurt. He was very good looking, not what she'd call feminine at all, and to a woman like Becky who had spent so much time in very traditional settings it was odd to see a handsome, good looking man, wearing anything feminine. But it worked for him. It really did. Heck, if he can wear those shoes and look fab, I can wear this dress and be calm, she thought to herself. Don't think about that too much, she reminded herself, it's not really the same thing.

"Shut up." She whispered to herself. Oh god, you're losing it it Becky. "Oh god sorry." She put her hands over her mouth, obviously not speaking to him just freaking out a little. "Not you I was talking to - " she paused. "And you have really good taste by the way, they look amazing. But still, I really need that - "

And he handed it to her. "Oh thank god." She took a deep sip of it, no camel that came to Caravanserai had ever been so desperate for water as she was for this drink. "Oh wow." She said afterwards. It was like nothing she'd ever had before. "It's really - " she paused. "I don't know what the word for that taste is." She admitted with a laugh, but a relaxed laugh, "But it's good!" She smiled and then held it up, admiring the glass and composition. "And damn it does look classy."

She already trusted his fashion sense, probably more than her own. So she leaned in a little and whisper. "Be honest, it doesn't like, make my dress like too trashy in comparison right? Like?" She stepped back from the bar a bit so he could see her up and down. "Is it too much?" She glanced down at the very deep neck. "It's too much isn't it. Oh god why did I wear this." She took another sip, instantly appearing calm. "Wow this works great." She said with a smile at him. "But uh, still?" she motioned towards her cleavage again and gave him a questioning look.

Another easy laughed escaped him as she spoke to herself. "No offense taken." He finished cleaning up the mess and stood before her again. No one else was in need of him at the moment, so she had his undivided attention as she took the first drink. He sure hoped it tasted good. That was one he had learned off of Mixology and it was very likely he got the measurements wrong. The laugh and compliment made a slight look of relief wash over him. "I'm so glad you like it."

As she leaned in close, he leaned in as well to hear, a confused look on his face at first before he realized what was going on. It became quickly obvious that she was panicking again and he gave her a little look as if they were in this together. It was human nature to be self conscious and this event could make even the most confident worry, he presumed.

When she backed up, he let his eyes wander up and down. I mean, she had asked him to look. Did his gaze stay just a little bit longer on her bosom? Maybe. Not to an extent of being uncomfortable as he did it again, placing a hand on his beard and running his fingers through it as he looked.

"Hmm." He said slowly before letting his blue eyes meet hers. "I think..." His eyes softened and a kind smile crossed his lips. "I think that you make that drink look trashy." Jesse's eyes shimmered with sincerity as he spoke. He loved the outfit. It was unexpected and he loved that she had been daring enough to not wear black which seemed like most would wear to this occasion and to not be afraid to break those expectations by showing a bit more skin. Okay, and it was a nice view, but that wasn't the main reason he approved.

A devious smile replaced the one he had before as he took the towel off his shoulder, twisting it around his hand for something to do. "There is one thing that may improve the overall look." He commented with a wink. "A smile. Please, just enjoy yourself. You look amazing and belong here just as much as any of these other ladies and gentleman." He hadn't been telling her to smile because that's what was expected of women, no, it was truly because she deserved to have fun here. She just needed to try and relax a bit.

Joseph watched the bodies move around the room, Becky seemed even more of a fish out of water than he did. In truth, that drew her to him even more that her blue dress with the interesting and attractively placed window. Sure, that was attention grabbing and aesthetically pleasing...it roused thoughts not meant to be shared in mixed company...but, there was something about her, and he had to figure out exactly what that was...or, at least find a way to get some private time with her, and that was all the more challenging, considering the other men in the room.

After grabbing the "secret" he had heard referenced, Joseph found his way to the bar. Looking for the barman, he saw that Becky had thought the same thing. "Well, hello again, Miss Becky." Joseph made his greeting and then let the bartender finish speaking with her before he took the opportunity to ask for a drink of his own. In that time, he saw more familiar things. Becky's glass, the bartender's shoes...where had he seen these things from, and how did this all feel so familiar?

"Woodford Old Fashioned. Please and thank you." Joseph was a simple man, of simple pleasures. Once he found something he liked, he tended to stick to it. If one knew their alcohol, it would be a blatant clue as to the kind of man Joseph Edwards was.

Becky waited nervously, maintaining her pose as JJ scrutinized her. She was nervous, nearly to the point of sucking in her lower lip and nibbling it, a nervous habit she hadn't displayed in years, but she had been through many fancy events in her previous life and she could deal with this. Right? He hesitated in his answer and she felt herself dying inside. No nervous breakdowns Becky. You've come here to avoid that.

But then he delivered his assessment and it was like a huge weight lifted off of her bare shoulders. So huge she thought she might just float away. She reached out and took his hand squeezing it softly. "Thank you." She whispered, her ears nearly tearing up. She closed her eyes, hand still on his, and took a deep breath. Get it together Becky. You can do this. And now, she finally thought she could.

She opened her eyes and was indeed smiling. She squeezed his hand again. "Thank you." She repeated again. "I'd kiss you if you weren't behind the bar." She laughed.

She'd regained her confidence just enough that her mini-freak out had totally passed when Joseph approached again.

"Well hi there." She said, turning to him with an easy, confident, manner. "Did you get your secret?"

"Yes ma'am, I did." Joseph would put his native accent on, finding that it usually helped him with charming others."Having a secret is one thing, but I find that keeping a secret is a bit of a lost art." A sly chuckle and a wink, now. "Of course, I find it no secret that you seem to be a bit out of your element. I get it. Trust me, I'm not exactly used to being in such fancy places myself." He hoped that by sympathizing with her, maybe it would get her to open up just a bit more. Of course, actively trying to learn other people's secrets was something he had been taught to be rude. But, something about this place seemed to be that what some consider to be basic manners is nothing more than a binding chain.

His drink seemed to be taking a bit longer than expected. Either somebody else was behind him, or the bartender's attentions were caught up in the same place as his own. Of course, when those attentions are on a woman with such a spectacular build as Becky's, it could be understood that her femininity was powerful enough to sway even the strongest male resolve.

As his hand was taken, he squeezed it reassuringly, his eyes glittering as the woman regained her confidence. The confidence looked lovely on her. A laugh even rumbled through his chest as she mentioned kissing him. "I may end up having to take you up on that at some point." He winked.

When the other man approached, he gave a nod to help the woman with her confidence before backing away slightly. No one wanted the bartender all up in their business, although, he did hear when a drink was ordered. With a smile and a nod, he tossed the towel over his shoulder again and set to making it. His attentions were not on the woman's body, it was just as likely they were on the well-dressed man if that were the case, but he wasn't that kind of man. It just so happened that drinks took a little bit of time to make.

Adorning the drink with an orange, he set it on the bar and slid it over to the waiting man with a nod, not wanting to interrupt their conversation. They did have secrets to try and discover, after all.
