In this alternate universe Earth, were-species are the dominants, there are Alpha families of varioues types that control large chunks of territory all over the globe. Humans are the minority, most of them living in sanctuary villages  that the weres have all agreed are off limits for raiding and/or hunting.

However, for Alannah Reed, living in one of these safe zones is not an option, it's not a choice she has at all... not if she wants to keep her younger brother alive...

Alannah's brother Riley was scratched by a were-wolf in an attack that claimed the lives of their parents when he was just a baby... thankfully for Riley, his sister was very well read and highly knowledgable in medicinal herbs... and she knew where to find a flower called 'Moon drop', grinding up the petals of this flower and feeding the powder to her brother kept him from completing the transformation, which in his young delicate state... it would kill him.

Until her brother was old and strong enough to survive the transformation, she was going to have to regularly give him the powdered petals once every week, which meant she would need to settle them near by where the flowers grow wild like weeds... which is way too far away from any human villages to be making that trip so frequently.

Alannah set her and brother up in an abandoned cabin she managed to fix up fairly nicely out in the wood really close to a Moon Drop field... smack dab in between a were-wolf town and a were-tiger town...

They were left alone mostly, but Alannah could tell that occassionally were recon scouts from whichever place lurked in the shadows every so often to check up on what she was doing... it made her nervous, but they never really bothered them... until very recently...

Alannah found herself getting once a month visits the Alpha of the nearby werewolf town, always during the full moon and always the same request and bribe... he told Alannah he'd been watching her and had fallen in love with her, he asked her to agree to be his mate and in exchange, he would see to it that her brother regularly got his medicine and he himself would teach him when he was old enough to safely complete the transformation.

Alannah always refused. A girl had her pride and after what werewolves had done to her family, she couldn't bring herself to agree to such a request.

Things change however, when were-tigers attack her cabin late and night, forcing Alannah to flee and run to the werewolf town... and ask the Alpha for his protection...

He makes his same request.

She agrees.
