Las Vegas-Kent Hospital

Las Vegas. Tourists from all around the world are drawn to the hotels and shows that make this city famous. Locals choose to live in a city that was built up from nothing in the desert and mostly full of outsiders. Beneath the glitz and the glamour though is a city that still needs to function and when things go wrong the city needs somewhere to turn in an emergency.

Las Vegas-Kent Hospital is the largest hospital and level 1 trauma center in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the operating rooms surgeons gamble with higher stakes than any of the tables at the casino and can only hope for good odds. Patients from all over the world need treatments of all kinds. The seemy underbelly of violence, drugs and alcohol abuse bring a steady stream of the unlucky people who fell victim of the odds into the
emergency rooms.

To the doctors who work there this isn't a holiday destination, it's the place where they struggle to make a difference and to make a name for themselves. The staff of the hospital work every day against a tide that will never stop. They have their own lives and stories too.

What we're looking for:
Lords, Ladies, and Leiges are all welcome. This is an LGBTQ friendly game, no one is discriminated against here.

Multi-para posters. If you're in the habit of only writing a couple of lines per post, this is not the game for you.

Characters will include any and all hospital personnel- surgeons, physicians, techs, nurses, etc. We do not, however, want to see patients as characters. Those can be played as NPCs. All characters will be human and will be realistic. No anime, manga, 16 year old prodigy doctors, etc.

Plot! Writing should be a collaborative effort between writing partners, not a pre-determined set of events. Make the stories into something special and tell your character's story.

What we're NOT looking for:
Drama. No drama OOC. It just makes things difficult.

Smut-based plot. Sex is fine, even encouraged. But if the only thing your character is contributing is 10,000 sex scenes, you're only slowing the game down.

Short posters- goes with multi-para posting. We get it if your muse only allows for a certain amount of writing sometimes, but at least give your partners enough detail to write a decent post.

A physical therapist would be awesome to have! One of my characters will be a second year surgical resident, so it'd be interesting to see what kind of plottage we could come up with!

It would certainly be interesting indeed.  The character that was on my mind was someone who had injured his ankle in his late teenage years, so he walks with a slightly noticeable limp (no walking stick or meds ah-la Dr. House).  Because of that, he knows the pains of those who try to walk or move limbs after accidents.  Unfortunately, in the last couple of years, he experienced a breakup with a highschool sweetheart due to him realizing that he was bisexual and is only just feeling comfortable with the idea of dating again.

I certainly will!  A medical setting is something I have been interested in since I binge watched every season of House in a little under two months.  >.>

Also, I forgot to mention that the two years between his breakup and now caused a major drop in his work, which has only now picked back up again now that the breakup is finalized (they weren't married, but were just a step away from it) and he has recovered.

This was a great surprise to wake up to! Okay, Amelita, WhatLiesAbove, and whtbitch4u2own: I sent out a PM a couple of days ago to the other interested writers explaining that we were going to try and get the game off the ground. Since we now have so many writers involved, we're going to move forward with that plan.

This thread will be converted into a recruitment thread. I am having a late lunch date with hubby in like......half an hour. But tonight, I will start on posting the initial game threads, including an OOC plotting thread. I will also create a character sheet template. If you would like to start working on your characters ahead of time, that would be great. Start working on background history, how and why they work for Kent hospital, appearance, profession, and positive and negative personality traits.

This is going to be an awesome game, guys. I'm excited.  ;D

I had a couple of questions about this game.

What would you consider an acceptable average post length, in terms of word count? Because everyone seems to have a different idea of what "multiple paragraphs" means.  :-)

The emphasis is not supposed to be on smut, but what amount sex, flirting and romance and the like would be alright?
Are we talking R-rated "Grey's Anatomy" here or more like, say, "House"?

Hello RedEve! Great questions.

As for post length....have a look at some of mine or Caehlim's posts. Those are pretty decent lengths. I did have a look through some of your posts and I will link to two games that I noticed that have more of a post length that we are looking for. One and Two.

Yes, we do not want smut-based plot. There's only so many ways that one can write a sex scene and we want stories with substance, not just an all-night sex fest. However, for the sex scenes that do take place, r-rated is perfectly fine. Grey's would probably be a good comparison.

Candy stripers...seeing as this is a modern setting and you don't really hear much about candy stripers anymore, I would have to say no. Especially since this is a level 1 trauma center and hospital, I couldn't see them having a bunch of unpaid volunteers running around in all the madness. However, I would say that maybe a nursing student that will come into the nursing program at the hospital might be okay. This is why I ask that character sheets be sent to be before posting so that I can approve them. ^^

I'm actually very interested in this RP! I have a question before I jump the gun, because she is a very specific character, and I'm not sure if you'll allow her into the RP (or if I'll be able to come up with something different).

My character is actually a chemist/pharmacist, but I can make her a doctor (I'll think of a specific section after I flesh her out); she's highly interested in chemistry, and though she's a professional in medication, she's actually working towards the—probably impossible—goal to come up with a drug to cure addiction. She has some demons in the past with drug abuse (not her) and she's made it her life goal to rid the world of drug abusers.

That's the basics, but there's one very important aspect to her character, which I'm wary on if you're okay with; I like to make villains, and I don't plan to make my character a very nice, or moral standing woman (despite her rather moralistic goal). Is a character who doesn't care for the well being of her patients allowed in this game?

I mean, she's going to be underhanded and discreet, so it's not like she's going to be public with her misanthropy and unethical ways, also, I'm not looking to make a serial killer or anything, so I don't plan any, if at all, murders; I just want her to be like the evil scientist that experiment on humans. She'll do things like prescribe unapproved drugs, purposefully misdiagnose people, probably even create some drug addicts herself, all ways so that she can test out her experimental drugs to cure drug addiction.

I also know hospitals security are pretty upstanding, especially big ones like Kent Hospital, but I also figured in real life, there are some bad Doctors out there that get away (for too long) with illegal things (examples like Charles Cullen, and Kristen Gilbert), not to mention all the baby kidnapping, or the people poisoning their hospitalized kin, that often go undetected! Once again, I actually don't plan to have her kill anyone—or purposefully do so, if patient death is fine for a rare plot twist—she's not full of hatred, like the people I gave for example, she's just using humans as her guinea pigs.

So, to sum up my words into a question: can I have a pharmacist character (I'm not highly informed on medical professions, especially their place in the hospital; I'll go do my research after this, and see where my character's career fit.) who is also a doctor? And can she do unscrupulous things, be it discreet, small, and realistic (I won't have her injecting morphine into the drips of patients dehydrated from the flue, or anything.)?

I'll also be sure to run all illegal dealings by you and everyone first, so I won't do any secret stuff, or things you don't approve of, and I won't have her act out on any experiments until you give the okay for each of them.

Also, the last major question, can I be a villain? Like, the antagonist that stirs up trouble for everyone? I mean, I don't have to be the main focus, no one has to really pay attention to her, but I don't mind if her shady dealings becomes a point of conflict for anyone interested... food for thought, if you need a plot bump thrown in the harmony of the hospital.

Hello Wabbit! Thanks for the interest.

Well, let me try to summarize this for you. Yes, you can have a character that stirs up trouble (however I would prefer that anything major be discussed with your writing partners OOC PRIOR to anything occurring in the game). However, there is one major issue with your character concept. Your character would have to be either a pharmacist OR a doctor. Major hospitals like that do not hire for multiple departments in such a manor. So, if your intention is for her to actually experiment on patients, she would have to be a doctor (probably with a chemistry background). She could, of course, have worked as a pharmacist in the past, but she would not be a pharmacist in the hospital where she works (and given the crazy schedules of doctors, especially doctors that would have her type of seniority to be with patients like that, it is doubtful she would have the time to be a pharmacist elsewhere). However, the ultimate decision would lie on how many writers would be willing to plot with a character like that. But we have a pretty amazing group of writers.

Of course, I never planned to do any antagonizing without running it buy with everyone first, and if anyone is uncomfortable with immoral characters, I'll certainly temper her (once again, I plan to have her be pretty discreet, so she'd be a law abiding, hippocratic oath vowing doctor to everyone she meets, plot wise, they'd have to discover her more unsavory characteristics)

Oh,  thank you for clearing that up for me, I don't know much about doctors and hospital positions, I know anatomy, and I studied a bit on midwifing, but besides a small medical class back in high school, I'm afraid I don't know much, if anything useful. Ah, she didn't have to be a pharmacist at all, I was just stating she was one as my personal character, I was always going to change her into a doctor for the RP, to plot out her treatment of patients; I just didn't know if there were a position for doctors to also pose as pharmacist, so I'm fine with making her a full time doctor. I know doctors write prescriptions, so that was all I need her to do, I also know her time would be erratic and hectic, but I planned anything she does pharmaceutical wise, would be done at home in her personal chemistry lab (I think her messing around in an actual pharmacy would be too risky, anyways).

I'll be going over to the OOC thread, please continue to help me out in shaping this character, I don't know much about the life of a doctor, so I'll still be needing some input on what's capable and expected of her. Thank you again for the help!
