So, how about a sun with two planets that might have built a biosphere, and intelligent life forms - though the scientists who found those planets speculate that they could both be fully covered in oceans? The article makes it obscure whether they have real hard reasons for thinking these worlds would be all aquatic or if it's just a supposition, and the actual scientific publication is not out yet. Around a hundred million years ago, the earth would have looked like an all-aquatic planet too, if seen from the Pacific Ocean side.

No, it would not have. Earth's oxygen envelope would have stood out like a giant "THERE IS LIFE HERE!" sign - free oxygen is not stable. We saw the cloud envelope around one world and carbon monoxide around the other the same way. Transits tell us a lot about the atmosphere.
