Storybrooke, Maine. That's where all the cool people are hanging these days!

This is a collaborative writing group that has formed to bring the concept of "Once Upon a Time" to life! You've taken your first steps...and we welcome you!

You probably have a lot of questions...and we don't blame you. Hold on to those thoughts for just a few moments and let me introduce you to our amazing cast/writers to date:

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) - Jazz Chenner
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
The Cheshire Cat

Writer : Ember Star
Job : Owns a shop called "Madness Abides" which is kinda the local weird shop, hailing as something of a cross between a head shop, a new age store, and a Spencer's.
Character Concept : Jazz is your friendly neighborhood weird chick. Though most could guess as much with a glance at her shop, and the strange jewelry and trinkets she makes herself and sells at said shop. But then, what can one expect from a self described "odd one out". She just is who she is and she makes no apologies over the matter. She makes a perfectly fun acquaintance, if you don't rub her the wrong way. Friendly and cheerful, but sometimes moody. She's just doesn't fit in, nor does she want to. Fitting in after all, is so very unexciting.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) - Ruby Lucas
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Little Red Riding Hood/Big Bad Wolf

Writer : Kokaine
Job : Everyone's favorite waitress! Ruby works at Granny's Diner, though these days she's taken on more responsibility and is more or less running things there (if you ignore Granny's general tendency to look over her shoulder at everything).
Character Concept : Ruby is a vibrant young woman who is compassionate and fiercely protective of others while being full of romantic notions and an unquenchable craving for freedom. She loves her Granny dearly, and despite her rebellious tendencies, respects the woman greatly, but wants a chance to make her own choices and create her own destiny. A destiny that has to be more than a life of waitressing... right?

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Mr. Gold
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Rumplestilskin

Writer : VonDoom
Job : Pawnshop owner, legal attorney, land owner, money lender
Character Concept : Mr. Gold is all about secrets, deals and power, but really deep down he is about fear. All these other things allow him to feel stronger, feel clever, feel safer, feel superior, but deep down he is still afraid. Which is ironic, since he is one of the most powerful sorcerers out there and the Dark One to boot -- he is afraid that he is still a coward, which ultimately makes him a coward forever. It's a vicious cycle

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) - Belle French
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Belle from Beauty and the Beast

Writer : Christa
Job : Librarian, and helps out at her family's flower shop.
Character Concept : Belle is, of course, a version of beauty from "Beauty and the Beast." She is currently the librarian at the Storybrooke Library, but she helps her family out with their flower shop as well. Unmarried and without children, she is about 27 years of age and very close personality-wise to canon Belle. Both Disney and OUAT.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Regina Mills
Character's True Identity - The Evil Queen
(This character retains their memories of the enchanted forest)

Writer : Ariel
Job : Mayor
Character Concept : N/A

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Mildred "Millie" Voigt
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Malificent

Writer : Flower
Job : Currently Millie has served as a judge within Storybrooke. Her rulings are not exactly just; they are usually based upon her mood or if she dislikes someone as a human being.
Character Concept : Millie mostly keeps to herself but takes her job seriously. Perhaps too seriously. As far as she knows, she has always lived in Storybrooke but aspires to move somewhere larger. Her home is one of the larger ones within the town but is gated. None are permitted entrance unless under dire circumstances.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse):  Barry Louis
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Baloo

Writer : Red Lobster
Job : Unemployed, he lives off the land
Character Concept : Barry is a fun-loving, care free hermit who lives in the woods of Storybrooke. Everything he owns he has found or builds himself. He has been known to do a few odd jobs around town (mostly manual labor) in order to buy a few things here and there that he feels he needs. But he finds a sense of total peace in living off just what he needs to get by, or as he says it, the bare necessities! Barry is quite tall and broad for a man, and when seen out and about he usually ends up wearing an old looking set of coats or jeans. Rarely switching to different outfits since thrift stores don't normally carry clothing in his size. His favorite hobbies are fishing, exploring the woods, cooking, and visiting friends. He loves to laugh and reminisce with the other members of Storybrooke about fond past memories.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Emma Swan
(This character does not have an Enchanted Forest Identity)

Writer : Aislinn
Job : Bail Bondsperson
Character Concept : Independent, feisty and intelligent, Emma relies on herself...and only herself. She's cynical and stubborn...but has a heart of gold.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Zhu 'Faye' Feiyan
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Mulan

Writer : Emjay
Job : Reporter for the local newspaper
Character Concept : Zhu Feiyan is your typical Storybrooke resident. She has lived there her entire life. The daughter of hardworking Chinese immigrants her's was a strict upbringing. Her mother and father always complained that she was too willful and outspoken. Faye rebelled against their old worldview while trying to maintain some level respect for her elders. Her grandmother was different from her parents though. The old woman always instilled the importance of independence and self-worth in her grandchild. Against her parent's wishes she decided to pursue her passions for journalism. She had grand dreams of leaving her sleepy hometown for the city, any city really, and truly beginning her career as a hard hitting reporter...and yet here she was almost a decade later. Faye currently works at the local newspaper. Nothing of note ever happens in Storybrooke, the kiss of death for any aspiring reporter that longs for the drama of world news. Still Faye retains her stubborn demeanor, throwing herself into her work with the same passion that she has always possessed. She seems to have a sort of wall constructed around herself as if afraid to open herself up to any sort of disappointment or what she likes to call 'unnecessary distraction'. "Distraction from what?" some may ask. Who knows. Faye isn't really sure herself.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Corvin Diaval

Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
The Raven of Maleficent known as Diablo

Writer : El Maligno
Job : Currently works as a bailiff in Judge Voigt's courtroom. He follows all of her orders and requests without any hesitation. Rarely if ever questions any actions requested of him by Judge Voigt.
Character Concept : Corvin is very loyal to Judge Viogt, almost without question. He greatly admires and respects her. Often times it appears as if he is more of a bodyguard/manservant rather than a simple bailiff /judge coworker relationship.  Seeks to further her interests but is somewhat lost on what he really wants though he has taken a strong interest in drawing.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Glenn Sahar
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Genie

Writer : PocketWatch
Job : Handyman
Character Concept : Glenn doesn't really remember much about his childhood. He doesn't remember or chooses to forget. As an orphan he had been put with multiple potential families in the hopes of finding a real home, but none of them could deal with his stubborn and difficult personality. And his adolescent years? Let's just say those weren't any better. Don't get it twisted, it were some of the best years of his life, but as an adult he is very thankful he got through them without too much damage to himself or anybody else. (Even though some time was spent inside prison cells). Glenn is known as the handyman, always happy to help anybody who needs him. Currently, he fixes issues inside the many houses Mr. Gold rents out. Preferably he'd be his own boss, but because of money issues he is on retainer until he can save enough and start his own business.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Wally Rustman
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Wall-E & Milo Thatch from Atlantis

Writer : King Serperior
Job : Owns the scrapyard, Junk's Treasure;  Makes sculptures out of scrap and sells them.
Character Concept : Wall is the eccentric genius of an owner to the town's scrapyard, Junk's Treasure.  He is almost always smeared with oil, grease, and dirt while he works on his projects (sculptures made of junk) and selling them off.  If anyone needs to find junk that could be treasure, hence the name, he's your guy.  More than anything, he wants to go to space, so he has a dream of building a ship and going up there.  Very curious and always tinkering with something, Wally can take apart, reconfigure into something new, and repair it with ease.  As a collector, he loves going through the scrap that winds up in his yard and discovering new things.  As far as anyone knows, he always wears a set of workmans' overalls which has a tool or piece of junk in every pocket and has a set of goggles that he wears above his head.  Wally also has a knack for finding the 'diamond in the pigsty.'  Overall, Wally is one of the friendliest people one could ever meet.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Krystopher Dane
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Wolf from Ruby's Pack

Writer : AlphaWolfQuin
Job : Construction worker
Character Concept : He stands at '6,5" and weighs 200lbs even. He's muscular but not overly built and doesn't have any tattoos on his body. Due to being highly intelligent he can come off as a know it all at points but he really just likes to help where he can. He's not very talkative around strangers or people he's not too fond of and if he doesn't like you, he makes it known. He's not one to sugar coat anything but he's also not a jerk, just brutally honest. He can read people pretty well through body language, he can sense how a person is just by observing them for a short while. He's always paying attention to his surroundings and the people around him even if he seems to be engrossed with something else. Krystopher has always been good with his hands and loves to build and create, he enjoys his work highly so much so that he could be considered as a bit of a workaholic.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Brie Caller Graylot
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Tinkerbelle

Writer : PrestaDGTation
Job : Mechanic and Metal Fabricator
Character Concept : Brie is one of the local mechanics who works at a body shop.  Baubles, trinkets and odd-jobs are her life's delight.  She's an avid welder!  Sheet metal and creations of all types, from bumpers to ducting to pots and pans, Brie does it all.  And she's known for being quite good at her job, when her impulse is captivated!  She's also known for being impulsive, bratty, curious, whimsical, creative, stubborn, and wildly emotional.  Despite being in her early twenties, Brie looks like she simply stopped aging at 17, and moves with an unearthly vitality and grace.  A captivating physical specimen with an hourglass figure and wide, moon-silver-blue eyes, Brie can be the most open and playful girl you've ever met, or the kind of jealous and fickle creature that causes disaster!  She also deals in some exquisite drugs, for those who know how to ask.

Despite all of these otherwise lively aspects, there is one big hurdle a lot of people have when dealing with her.  Brie, either by choice or by tragedy, is mute.  She understands English perfectly, despite apparently having been born French.  But she is forced to play pantomime games or surround herself with people that actually understand what she's trying to say, to get her point across.  As such, she can't strike out on her own in the mechanics and body-shop trade, and needs someone at her side.  One curious way she has to get around this is carrying around small musical instruments, usually a Triangle, to express herself.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) :  Mera Duncan
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Princess Merida of DunBroch

Writer : Ember Star
Job : Sheriff
Character Concept : Mera is a headstrong fiery kind of personality. Not that it's any surprise with that red hair of hers. As town sheriff she's a good and honorable sort of person, friendly with locals, and fiercely protective of her friends and of children.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) :  Marigold Lee Viseli
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Ursula

Writer : PrestaDGTation
Job :  Independently Wealthy Eccentric Charity Enthusiast
Character Concept :  Ms. Marigold Viseli is that eccentric wealthy widow in the house on the out skirts of town.  A patron of the arts, a generous supporter of charities, and a charming socialite, Ms. Viseli has that devilish quality where you know you can't trust her, but you can't help but listen to her pitch.  She apparently used to be fabulously wealthy, until she was indited in some fiasco involving tax evasion through shell corporations.  Even so, Viseli remains a woman of means, employing her considerable talents in business and con-artistry to ensure she is able to live in reasonable comfort.  She has a theatrical quality to her, and sometimes takes rather impressive roles in local plays she sponsors.  She is also a bit of a busy body, eager to help people with their problems, so long as it benefits her in some way, and especially if it gets her closer to her former heights of power and decadence.  A rumor that she dabbles in witch-craft exists, but no one is entirely sure..

One important aspect of Viseli involves her two 'little dears,' Floyd and Jerry Angolna.  These two are brothers, and so close they can easily finish one another's sentences.  Snakey and strange, they are completely devoted to Viseli for some reason, apparently butlers that decided to stay on in her service after her fall from titanic levels of wealth.  One of these two can always be found at her house, welcoming visitors and keeping things tidy for the mistress.  The other, however, is usually prowling somewhere around town.  Viseli likes to keep an extra close watch on the goings on in Storybrooke, and the Angolna Brothers are uncannily thorough at keeping her informed.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Jasmine Misra
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Jasmine from Aladdin

Writer : Rel Mayer
Job : Fortune Teller
Character Concept : While Jasmine can do nothing to decipher her foggy past, she believes that she has the knack for seeing into the future. People come to her for guidance on what they should do about their relationships, wants, fears, and more. She may not be the best at reading the cards, but she truly is talented that she can channel spirits to get the correct cards to display. She also can be a bit longing for something past the walls of Storybrooke, but lacks the drive and courage to venture out. She has an orange tabby cat name Rajah that she spoils rotten, and consistently struggles with money on a regular basis. Jasmine would not be considered popular, by any means, but she does have a few close friends that she likes to keep by and confide in. And of course always offer them a free reading! One thing that should be noted about Jasmine is that she lacks money, and is at a constant struggle of getting by.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) : Jason Richards III/"Trey"
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Mad Hatter

Writer - KalebHyde
Job : Unemployed, part time street thug/philosopher
Character Concept : From as far back as he can remember, Jason has struggled with order and structure.  From his disappointed father whose one dying wish was for his son to carry on the family business to his frustrated teachers who saw the true intellectual potential behind those apathetic blues, chaos has seemed to be the only thing which holds his interest for long.  Trey, the name he is far more likely to respond to due to his disdain for his lineage, is now a Storybrooke municipal courts nuisance, often appearing for petty and unnecessary charges merely for the hell of it, though his family name has thus far shielded him from any serious prosecution.  Just how far he might push the envelop is anyone's guess, though some rumors swirl as to just what he may have already done. As his living expenses were basically covered in his father's will, Trey can often be found loitering in the varied shops around town.  Not that he doesn't possess a keen intelligence, but it's highly unlikely any regular job could occupy his scattered mind for long.  One benefit, however, has been the development of a taste for the exotic.  His eye seems to be drawn toward anything or anyone outside the mainstream, but then who doesn't enjoy a good tea or a proper stranger to share it.

Character Name (Storybrooke - Post Curse) :  Abraham Thomas
Real Identity :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Thomas O'Malley from The Aristocats

Writer : Terris Geolith
Job : Unemployed, but does moonlight as a musician at a jazz club by the name of Scales and Arpeggios
Character Concept :  A good natural, free-spirited (some would call him a wanderer of sorts) kind of a guy who sees the world as his own backyard. Which is sort of why he doesn't own his own place, per se. He does have a few places that he considers his place of peace for him to lounge about, but most of the time he would rather be moving about, not trying to be held down in one location for too long. He can be a bit of a romantic. Confident, but not arrogantly so and genuinely a bit of a smooth talker but with a sense of fun. Living in Storybrooke has been a little rough for him (he seems unable to actually leave Storybrooke for some reason), but he has managed to make somewhat of a place there. But in the back of his mind, he is looking to go further. The music that he plays (saxist) helps him express and quell a bit of that wanderlust...

I love the initial premise of the show, but admittedly found its plotting in the newer seasons often cringe-worthy (mostly the constant flip-flopping of characters) ... I'm interested, specifically in playing Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin, but would prefer that if we include the show canon beyond the basics (setting and character premise), there'd be a cut-off at some point before the latest seasons.

I understand your concerns completely...although I didn't have the same issues with the current seasons. My initial thought is to first run something very similar to season one where no one really knows who they are. Of course Regina and Mr. Gold would be exempt from this and Emma obviously has no idea what is going on. It would be up to the individual writers if they wanted to stick with the relationships presented in the show or do something different. New approved characters allow for a bit more creativity. The point is that we are just using the show as a base to work from.

After a bit, I would like to do a reset....basically banishing the curse and allowing them to regain their memories. At that point, any relationships that have been created before this will have to be weighed against any that surface post-curse. It should allow for some amazing writing opportunities. We could do that a number of ways. If we wanted to stick with the cannon relationships post curse, that's fine but we might run into issues with having a Snow White but no one is writing Prince Charming. That could be problematic. The only thing we could do is put everyone's characters into a hat and let the luck of the draw determine who had a relationship with who before the curse. It allows for a bit more surprise and interest for you guys.

Hopefully that explains where my mind is at this point. =-)

I'm interested. Can I claim my Evil Queen? ;D

Hey you! No claims yet but if this gets off the ground then it will be a first come, first serve type thing. However I'm thinking that it's only fair that the people that are involved with the prep stage (this) are given first choice of character.

I am definitely interested in this. I love Once Upon a Time, Regina is my favorite character of all time <3

If you're open of OC's I could make a character of my own. I'll probably look into what characters haven't been put into the show yet and make sure he'd have a solid reason for being in the storyline. I'm definitely interested though if this takes off and you'll have me ;D

The idea of not knowing who you are sounds fun. Like making a character and catering him to be a certain way and then finding out you aren't who you had in mind... in theory.

Example - Like someone who is a fishermen, setting it up to be Captain Hook but then when the spell is lifted, the GM randomly selects from three aquatic types (options between Captain Hook, Prince Eric (little Mermaid) or King Triton) since all are tied to the ocean in their own ways.

But I see how that could also be bad...

VonDoom

To be fair, it's easy to incorporate it as an optional choice -- rather than defining who you were, you could leave that part open if you choose to do so. (Obviously, that won't work for characters who know who they were.)

Aislinn

Hello again darlings!

So after thinking about it, I decided that I would really like the experience of the story to be customized to the individual writer. This would mean that writers would have a few options as far as character creation and more work on my end to make all the things fit together but I'm okay with that.

Oh...and I'm okay with writers having more then one character.

Something like this....

A. Cannon character to the show in most every way pre and post curse. In some cases this might mean having to find another writer to write an opposing character if there is a cannon relationship already established.

B. Cannon character pre-curse but opting for a surprise post-curse character. Post-curse character would be assigned by the GM based on character attributes. Post-curse character may not be a cannon character to the show.

C. Custom character pre and post curse - Post curse character would need GM approval to insure that we don't wind up with two of a certain person.

D. Custom character pre-curse but opting for a surprise post-curse character. Post-curse character may not be a cannon character to the show.

Does that sound doable to everyone? Is there anything I missed?

All options sound excellent to me. As long as having all of them won't be too overwhelming or unenjoyable for you! :)

Emjay

I am most definitely interested. I wouldn't mind possibly bringing in some new fairy tale characters that haven't been covered in the show are adding a new twist to ones that have already been covered.

Thank you for the concern! I think that doing it that way will actually be easier then having everyone's stories streamlined the same. It gives the writers the most amount of material to work with and I hope it leads to a more enjoyable experience for you all. =-)

I quite enjoyed Hook. You are quite right though. I can't think of any other male character (still alive) within that show that was worthy of my adoration. xD

Two Quick Questions:

1. Will we be using canon actors from the show or new models? I only ask, because I think it would add a certain level of mystery, pre-curse, if players didn't use the exact same faceclaims. If this flies in the face of everything everyone wants, how about adding a new twist to the curse where the person doesn't look anything like they do post-curse. That would certainly keep people guessing until the big reveal!

2. If we're playing a canon character, how authentic do they have to be? Say, for example, I want to play a minor character, but I want to switch up their sexuality? Would you allow this as long as it didn't throw a major character's story arc into ruin?

Cheers,
Tony

Heya! Question #1 I need to think about but I like the way your mind works.

Question #2 - I'm absolutely open to a different viewpoint on a minor character. I want this to be a fun experience for everyone and part of that is being able to write characters the way that it makes it interesting for you. Obviously there are some details that might have to stick but I'm completely open to having a discussion about them in advance. =-)
