As many of you will know, and some will probably not. A mondegreen is a misheard song lyric or poeetry line. The term was based on a misheard line from Percy's Reliques.

Ye Highlands and ye Lowlands, Oh, where hae ye been? They hae slain the Earl O' Moray, "And Lady Mondegreen." In stead of "And laid him on the green"

Now the most famous one I guess is from Jimmy Hendrix's purple haze, with many people hearing "Excuse me while I kiss this guy" where he actually sings "Excuse me while I kiss the sky"

So did you ever mishear a lyric or poetry line, but it just felt as if it was right? Please share it with us, especially if it's funny.

I'll start off with one of my own.
In the golden earring song I constantly heard "And it feels like being stoned" While in fact they sing "It feels like being cloned"

And one more many people hear, but I never did. In prince's purple rain:

People seem to here "I know god is a traitor" when in fact he is singing""I know times are a changing"
ons and offs

They left their home of summer ease
Beneath the lowland's sheltering trees,
To seek, by ways unknown to all,
The promise of the waterfall.

Stella

Everytime I hear Eskimo Joe's 'Black Fingernails, Red Wine' I'm convinced the words are:

I don't understand the point of fingers.

Real lyrics: All of us stand and point our fingers.
