Bluntly, the only things TERA does right is the combat and the T&A quotient, if you ignore the Loli-bait race and all the creepers on the forums that only play as that race and claim that the characters are 'their daughters'.

Star Trek Online is adding more fleet options including starbases for them and later new ships attached to the fleets these might be cosmetic or actually be new ships. Not sure.

Actual new ships, or at least variants of existing classes. The stats for them have gone up.

Ever play Lineage 2? Same quest log, same exp and item farming grind, MUCH prettier graphics, and a combat system that focuses more on control and mobility than it does outright DPS.

It's pretty and has a good combat system, but otherwise it feels like a throwback to MMO circa 2003/4

'fraid not. Only MMORPG I've played so far would be WoW.

I'm actually thinking to play it because of the graphics and the combat system, if I'm completely honest.

TERA gets a plus from me just because it has playable reptilian race. Don't see many MMO's where you can actually make a dragon man type race... even if they are your stereotypical Proud Warrior Race Guy fighting for freedom.

One RPG that I LOVE is called Forsaken World. It's just one of about 6 or 7 on the Perfect World International website. It's really fun. There's about 5 different races, each with different classes to choose from. It's freemium. Free to play, but some aspects need to be paid for if you want to use them.
This doesn't have to end in a fight, Buck.
It always ends in a fight.
You pulled me from the river. Why?
I don't know.

If you haven't watched it, check out the fill cinematic. I was hoping for a balanced look at the three factions, but unfortunately it isn't remotely that. Still nice eye candy though.

Beta has started, currently active PS1 subscribers are being invited. In the next 2-3 weeks they'll add former PS1 subs and other priority keys. After that, people who just signed up via the website.

I'm a former sub, so still waiting on my own invite. Some of my outfit are already in and liking it though.

If you've got the reflexes and keyboarding chops for it, pvp/pvE-centered CrimeCraft is free. With detailed graphics, awesome weapons and damage effects (including dismembering explosions and a leaping knife attack*), an elaborately functioning craft/professional system -- gunsmith engineer, chemist, tailor -- and some coordinated group activities with warring and collaborating gangs. Even in the free version you can have many specialist characters including sniper, rocketeer, stealther, chaingunner, spy/poisoner and grenadier.

One of the best features is a viewing option where you can track other players from their pov in combat, or go off on your own as a spycam that can rip along inches above the ground faster than any player, or zoom out from above, sideways or below to view an entire combat arena.

There are dozens of sets, weird quests and all sorts of special objects as well as a no-limits game economy. If this interests you, check out the wikipedia article and this** video of game action.

Crimecraft looks like an awesome world to role play in. Is there any sort of safe zones or does it facilitate role playing for your own story lines at all? In the videos it looks a bit to much like an fps done in 3rd person to me which sort of takes out the RPG from the MMORPG and turns it into MMOpewpew.

Looks like there is a Lobby area if you are not in a combat instance and there can be hundreds of players there.

Yeah the lobby is like 5-10 whole cities with gang hideouts, all kinds of craft shops and trainers, and rapid transit between.

There is also an "immigration/customs" entry tutorial where you learn the ropes, choose a profession, earn some starter cash and play a graduated series of quests against NPCs that hone your game skills.

Oh yeah: and daily tournaments at several levels for prizes and prestige. And there is a good general/specialized text chat through which you can trade, form alliances for tourneys and missions, get instant help with game mechanics and have uncensored conversations worldwide. Also there's a system for voice/mike linkup, which makes for super-efficient group combat, but that didn't interest me, so I'm unsure of the particulars. Interestingly, male and female characters get treated as such, whatever that individually means, with no interest whatsoever in the player's xx/xy chromosome layout. Conversely, of course, the whole erotic sphere is sublimated to combat.

The character-creation options, from which you can run I think three separate individuals, and a lot of sub-specialties, seems pretty elaborate to me, but then it offers my kind of "comic book" graphics. Individual story lines might be hard to develop, as the emphasis is on combat virtuosity, and the game is about that and trading items that lend to it -- which incidentally leads to close friendships and raging enmities (e.g., lots of duels: nobody can emptily shoot their mouth off for long). I'm not that fast or aggressive, and I only just learned to touch-type but I still made loads of game money and enjoyed status as a craftsperson and organizer. You might be able to locate a gang or group who are into that. But Second Life, it ain't...

A look at the forums reveals a lot about game sociology.

It's not a 'true' MMO due to not being an open world, but if you have a hankering for arcade-style carnage, World of Tanks is prety good.

http://www.worldoftanks.com

Best way to describe it is as follows; 15 vs 15 Player vs. Player matches, only instead of being in a squishy human with an assault rifle, you're in a tank. The tanks themselves start in the pre-1930 range for the lowest 'tier' and, as you advance in tier, you tend to advance in years as well; for example, the Tier 10 tanks for the Russians, French, Americans and Germans (highest tier) are in the 1945-1955 range; There's a lot of 'paper tanks' (prototypes that were never built, but were designed) across all four factions, and the Devs are actively working on improving the game constantly, even if they sometimes make you want to scratch your head. (Eg; buying the company that made the bigworld engine for 45M$, which is what WoT is built on, instead of buying an engine such as the Battlefield engine from DICE for 2M$)

There's some issues, such as pay-to-win being a rather annoying problem later in the game at times, and due to the experience system, your first matches in a new tank will usually have you, personally, being trounced (though, if you're on a good, solid team, there's a good chance of your side winning, regardless). But, overall, it's good if you want to blow off some steam by using the 'golden age' of Armoured Vehicles to blast the ever-loving bejabbers out of other people.

HairyHeretic

It's a first person shooter with tanks, more or less. They're also working on World of Warplanes and World of Warships.

I haven't seen the whole thread just the first and last 2-3 pages and, excuse me if I post what was already mentioned, I think EvE Online is the most incredible MMO Universe to play in. However, due to my other passions, (my lovely Girlfriend, Producing Music, Pen and Paper RPG...) I decided not to get too deep into it, as its very addictive IMHO. But GW2 seems to be the first Fantasy MMORPG that could attract me since the "classic" WoW (i stopped playing it about BC, because it got too casual or endgame-endless-raiding).

One decisive question remains. Are you able to jump in GW2? Because a game where you cant jump is no good xD (IMHO)
If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.

ShadowFox89

You can jump in GW2. And fight under water.

I have the collectors edition purchased already, participating in the betas when I can and will be playing 3 days early along with going to the midnight releasing of the game at gamestop as one of the 10 people who where able to get the collectors edition.

Is GW2 a FtP, freemium or monthly sub?

Pay once, no monthly fee. You can pay money for things, but they'll just be cosmetic.
