Okay, here's an off-the-wall idea.

There's been a certain well-founded gripe about the lack of large system games on E.  Point made.  So I'm dusting off an old, old, OLD concept that's been on my back burner for either far too long or not long enough.

Anybody remember BASIC D&D?  We're talking pre-d20, here, when Elf was a class and there were only three alignments.   Simple, straightforward, old-fashioned dungeon crawling.  Something nice and mindless, maybe with a few laughs thrown in.

Just a thought.   :)

Which is available out there on the Net someplace...but yes, I'm talking the Old Red Box  :)  It's what I cut my teeth on as a role-player.

(Okay, actually that was the blue covered edition, which was done before even the Red Box version...)

I WISH I had that!  It would make certain things a lot easier.  No, what I have is the individual booklets from Basic, Expert, Companion, and Master boxes sets.

(I saw that Cyclopedia many, many moons ago and decided against it 'cause I was never going to do Basic ever again...not one of my most foresightful decisions!  But then it was $25 at a time when that was a lot for a rulebook.)

I'm almost tempted to do 'Order of the Stick' style dialogue, too: the characters use game-speak, which as we all know is something you're not supposed to do.

(The moment when the Big Bad Dragon looks at the heavily armed fighter and says "2", thus sending said fighter flying like Charlie Brown smacked by a fastball, is priceless!)

Yes, or something bit more old-school and make the characters a jolly bunch of munchkins with rubber conciense...

One way or another, this can be fun. Are you planning to run it?

As long as the game isn't too stat driven, I might play. This would be a fun distraction and I'm quite familiar with the old rules...

That's prety much what I meant. I'm usually posting from work and can't be bothered with constantly looking up rules and such. I don't mind stating out a PC, but after that I'd rather just play.

Hmm.  Point made.  I also post from work and don't have the rules with me...we can always add your saving throws and THAC0 to the character write-up easily enough.

Have acquired a copy of a lovely little gem called Basic Fantasy (thanks in no small part to the Goblin Celestial!) which is as close to a compilation of Basic et al as makes no odds.

And it's free, too.

So this idea isn't dead in the water just yet.  ;D

Setting concepts: the one foremost in my fevered little brain is loosely based on the Crusader kingdoms of the Outremere.  A thin sliver of Human enclaves on the coast, lotsa demihumans further in, and so on and so forth.
