The Avengers Academy

The Avengers Academy is a freeform sandbox group game set in an original Marvel timeline to allow for original characters and alternative takes on existing characters. It will centre around an Avengers team that is actively recruiting, the reality of such a recruitment process and what it might take for a recruit to go from an ordinary person to Avenger. Players will be able to write as fully-fledged Avengers, who also take the role of instructors to the recruits, as well as the recruits themselves. I will be taking on a handful of instructors and maybe a recruit or two, in addition to running missions and training exercises for the players to participate in. Instructors will be able to run training scenarios of their own and can take leadership roles on missions. Though this is an academy it is not a scholastic environment akin to Professor Xavier's School. Those attending are training to be heroes, learning to utilise their powers in combat situations. They will all be eighteen and upwards, and they are not forced into this environment. Please note this game's not at all smut focused, it will have threads for those scenes but the game is very, very story focused. This game has a Co-GM, Timeless, and all CS's must be sent to both GM's via joint PM.

Premise

The Avengers are Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Few in number but great in skill and power they were first assembled in the year 2007 to combat a rampaging Hulk when Loki manipulated him into a fit of rage. Thor, Ant Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and Wasp all responded in unison and worked together to bring Banner back from his rage. Loki's plot was foiled and he had unintentionally created a team that would go on to stand in the path of villainy for years to come. Wasp suggested they name themselves the Avengers and the group agreed that the name fit well.

They recruited others to their cause and occasionally worked with freelance heroes, earning the respect of SHIELD and the U.S Government and becoming a fully sanctioned group. Since then then group has managed to earn international fame, predominantly positive media coverage and the support of international organisations. They operate on a global level whenever a thread should arise that is simply above the realm of individual heroes or conventional law enforcement. The Avengers are undeniably responsible for saving the world on multiple occasions and their founding members are globally famed.

However as the amount of superheroes in the world rises, and the amount of people with a wide array of powers, there has become a need to support these potential new heroes. After a series of talks the Avengers converted their base and commenced recruitment at the Avengers Academy. Recruitment commenced in late 2018 with the game commencing in May 2019. Not all can, or wish, to commit as heavily to instructing but many see it as an opportunity to future proof the world. Nobody is forced to come to the Academy, but they accept absolutely any superhumans who are looking to make the leap to being a superhero. Training is rigorous and thorough, making certain that those who stick around are really ready for the reality of an Avenger's life.

Rules

1. Don't cause or participate in drama. Be respectful of other players. If an issue comes up, PM me.
2. Don't godmode. Exceptions made when all parties involved have agreed on it.
3. Inform the GM if you will be unable to post for significant time.
4. Write in the third person past tense. A reasonable standard of English is required. (Spellcheck, grammar check, no one liners or overly short posts)
5. Accept your character will sometimes lose fights and/or get injured.
6. Please communicate with others, seek out scenes, be proactive and involved in the game. I will always be willing to utilise NPC's.
7. Respect that this game is not smut focused and save that for appropriate threads. Do not harass players IC or OOC or be 'thirsty'.
8. Be active and involved. Try and maintain at least one active scene with any characters. I cannot have big canon names being claimed but unused.

Character Creation

Characters for this game should either be established Avengers who are working as instructors or new recruits. Players may have up to three characters. I will be allowing original characters, including ones with canon parentage. If you involve canon characters in an original character's backstory you may not kill them off, and you must be open to a player taking on their role. I will be taking a few characters to help fill out the roster and keep a few NPC's to help the story flow. This is not marvel's 616 setting. The timeline is a work in progress but in general the majority of major crossover and cosmic events can be assumed to have not happened yet.

Instructors should have a reasonable degree of experience in heroics either with The Avengers or as an individual. Recruits can have some level of experience on their own, with their most key shared trait being that for one reason or another they've signed up for this. They are not being press-ganged and if they try to leave nobody will stop them. So, they should have a reasonable level of desire to either perform heroics with the Avengers, learn to control their powers or some other strong reason to be present at the Academy.

Players may not write villains for this game. I'll be running them in a variety of missions for the potential new Avengers to take part in. I have also taken a few canon characters as NPC's due to feeling they do not fit the game as a player character. They may show up in missions, or to visit the mansion. (For example, Deadpool doesn't fit tone-wise as a permanent presence and Sentry is simply too powerful.) If there's any canon character who is unlisted but you'd like to write them I'd suggest sending a PM to double-check but I'll most likely be happy to include them. The list exists only to provide ideas. Players may reserve a canon character for a week. If I haven't seen a CS or heard further from you by then they will no longer be reserved.

Please PM character sheets to Sun Wukong and Timeless rather than posting them in this thread. Thank you!

Note: Some characters have been listed as a priority. It just means they are characters I'm particularly hoping to see in the game. Everyone/everything else listed is still welcome, as are OC's.

Hyperion
Basic Information
Name: Marcus 'Marc' Milton
Alias/Nicknames: Hyperion, Sun God, Caretaker
Citizenship: American
Place of Birth: A small town in Nebraska
Role: Avenger Instructor

Physical Description
Age: 58
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Eternal
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 460lbs
Eye Colour: Brown
Hair Colour: Auburn
General Appearance: Marc is a tall, powerfully built man with an almost impossibly muscular physique. Hyperion carries himself with confidence, good posture and a head held high. He often wears smart, professional suits when publicly appearing in his civilian persona though in his own time when trucking he dresses considerably more casually. Hyperion's uniform is a unique black set of Eternal combat armour with the nuclear symbol at his belt. When using some of his powers Hyperion glows with a golden light. At almost all times Hyperion has impeccable hygiene and takes care of his appearance.

Personality & History

Personality:

"Truth without compromise, thought without error, All things for the betterment of the whole"

Marc Milton is an alien of vast potential power, influence and ability who strives to be the most positive influence he can be on a Universe that is not his own. He is a caring person who upholds a very simple set of values. He aims to uphold truth and honesty, being open and clear and refusing to utilise manipulation or lies. He does not compromise or twist his values no matter what could be gained. Marc holds himself to a high standard of accuracy and intelligence and dislikes making errors or bad judgement calls. If he feels he cost something to earth through a mistake he will go over it in depth. Though a peaceful man and one who values hope and optimism he is willing to fight when pushed, and he will do anything that is necessary to better the world. Hyperion dislikes taking lives if he can possibly avoid it. He is a fairly hard line instructor, taking his duty very seriously and spending much of his downtime away from the Academy.

History: Hyperion is the last survivor of the Eternals of another Universe. He was sent to earth from his dying planet, the last survivor of an extinct race. Once on earth he was raised by small town folk in Nebraska, adopted by two humans who were loving parents. Marcus adopted well to human society and as his eternal powers developed he chose to put them to use defending and aiding humans. As an adult Marc joined a team called 'Squadron Supreme' and fought against criminals, supervillains and even aliens alongside other heroes.

All that changed when scientists in Hyperion's home universe predicted that an unknown cosmic anomaly was going to cause their universe to collide with another. Try as they might to understand and counteract this unimaginable disaster it was soon found to be inevitable. When the Universes collided Earth was set on a collision course with itself. Hyperion took it on himself to be the last thing to try and rescue the planet he'd come to love. Alone in space between the two worlds Hyperion managed to hold them apart for a time, slowing but not halting this cosmic disaster. Eventually though the force of the colliding universes overwhelmed him and all other matter. Marc was left floating in the void, helpless and alone in a place without any others.

He was stuck drifting in the nothingness, losing all track of time and reality as the void between universes passed him by. Throughout Marcus was lost in memories of the earth he had lost. He wished there was more he could have done, and vowed that if he were ever free of this eternity he would give himself over to helping others in any way he could. Eventually he was at last ripped from the void. A group called A.I.M freed him from the in-between, but entrapped the alien in a facility in an effort to study him. Marc was freed by other Avengers, escaping the compound and agreeing to take a place at their side.

Hyperion excelled in this role, his prior experience helping him easily adjust to heroics. Soon enough he was fully accepted as an Avenger, fighting alongside the others to several great successes. In his life as Mark Milton he chose to become a truck driver, taking no jobs but travelling the United States idly in a 379 Peterbilt truck. He found the lifestyle relaxed him a great deal, and let him gain a sense of peace after a lifetime of so much intensity and such brutal events. He currently splits his time between drifting and operating as one of the Avengers Academy's combat instructors, with a focus on high level super-powered physiology combat.

Superpowers

Eternal Physiology: Hyperion's unique physiology is common among the Eternals. His body collects cosmic radiation and operates in a process similar to nuclear fusion, specifically processing and gaining nourishment from solar photon particles. As a result, he possesses various superhuman attributes.

  • Superhuman Strength: Hyperion possesses extremely superhuman physical strength. He was able to hold two Earths apart to prevent them from colliding with each other for a period of time.
  • Superhuman Speed: Hyperion can run, move, and react at speeds that are far beyond the physical capabilities of even the finest human athlete. his top speed is beyond mach 4 (3,700 miles per hour) within Earth's atmosphere.
  • Flight: Hyperion has the ability to levitate himself and fly through the air at tremendous speeds by harnessing and manipulating anti-gravitons. At his peak, he is capable of achieving speeds faster than lightning, over 61 miles per second. Once in space, he is capable of reaching light speed.
  • Superhuman Durability: Hyperion's body is far tougher and more resistant to physical injury than the body of a human. Hyperion can withstand high caliber naval gun fire, falls from tremendous heights, exposure to near absolute temperature (from -455 to 11,000 degrees Fahrenheit without issue) and pressure extremes, powerful energy beams and great impact forces. He was also able to survive in the void of a destroyed universe.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Hyperion's highly advanced musculature converts fatigue poisons directly into cellular energy. He can exert himself physically at peak capacity for several days, his ability to convert solar photons into energy sustaining him before he begins to tire. Hyperion is also able to physically withstand the rigors of space without any special clothing, and he has stated that he does not need to breathe. Hyperion also does not require air, food or water to survive as long as his body absorb Solar energy.
  • Superhuman Reflexes & Agility: Hyperion's reflexes & agility are similarly enhanced and are far superior to those of the finest human athlete.
  • Enhanced Vision: Hyperion also possesses a superior sensory arrangement of visual capabilities, including:

    • X-Ray Vision: Hyperion is capable of peering through solid objects.
    • Telescopic Vision: Hyperion can seeing objects in clear and detail at long distance even a minuscule things like strands of DNA while in orbit.
    • Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision: Hyperion can see all forms of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as any shifts within it.
    • Microscopic Vision: hyperion can see all things down to the microscopic level.
  • Enhanced Hearing: Hyperion is capable of hearing with amazing clarity and distance, and even perceiving frequencies outside normal range.
Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Hyperion is capable of willfully manipulating great amounts of cosmic energy for a few physical purposes:

  • Atomic Vision: Hyperion is capable of firing beams of highly intensive heat from his eyes that's often referred to as Atomic Vision, as well as several others. The full limits of his Atomic Vision isn't known, but it is capable of generating up to at least 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit..
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his body's great physical resistance to injury, it is possible for him to be hurt. If injured, Hyperion can purposely channel cosmic energy to repair damaged bodily tissues much faster and more extensively than a human being is capable of. Hyperion's healing powers also dramatically decrease the rate of his aging to an unknown degree. It isn't known if he ages at an exceptionally slow pace or if he has stopped aging altogether. He is also immune to the effects of all known Earthly diseases, viral infections, toxins, chemical poisoning, corrosives, and radiation exposure.
Hyper-intelligence: Hyperion's mind is a nonlinear photonic array, storing his memories in light, with virtually instantaneous recall: his mind is structured in such a manner that memories are to him as 'real' as the present, his most vivid memory dominating his perceptions. Hyperion is capable of processing information incredibly fast.

Skills and Equipment

Skills:

Extreme Willpower: Hyperion has shown himself willing to die for his own world before. He retained hope in the void of nothingness between universes. He is a relentlessly optimistic person who will never bow, break or compromise his values.

Hand to Hand Combatant: Hyperion has had extensive hand to hand training both on his own world and here as an Avenger. This training heavily focuses on properly utilising his powers, but he is a capable martial artist if facing a foe of similar strength.

Field Leader: Hyperion used to lead the Squadron Supreme, and is a comfortable field leader in many forms of operation. He is as good at taking orders as he is at giving them.

Equipment:

Eternal Armour: Hyperion wears a set of Eternal designed black and yellow armour with a radiation symbol at the belt. It is almost as durable as he is.

Flaws and Weaknesses

Flaws:

Solitary: Though he retains optimism despite his experiences Hyperion has come to value time to himself. He places great value in meditating on the loss of his previous universe, his actions in this one and his path as an instructor. Some can come to see him as aloof or unfriendly, though he tends to be a figure of warmth in person he so frequently evades social situations.

Inhuman: Despite acclimatising to two different earth's ultimately Hyperion is not and can never be a human. His light based memory causes him unusual social quirks, as does his sense of morality and justice. The way he remains so focused on doing good, making no errors and holding himself to an extreme standard can easily be seen as frustrating or intimidating.

Weaknesses:

Solar Energy Reliance: If depleted of solar energy Hyperion will rapidly lose his powers and become no more capable than an ordinary human. Dark radiation can greatly speed up this effect.

Magic: Hyperion's incredible durability is little defence against magic. He is still tough, but magic bypasses a great deal of his power.

F.A.Q

Why is the game in the 'Extreme' category? Most content will not fall under the extreme banner, especially not sexual content. However E's rating applies to graphic violence too and for example a villain like Venom eating someone is classified as vore and extreme even if not in a sexual context (So far as I understand it.). Any more graphic violence will have apt. warning tags! You shouldn't run into extreme content by mistake in this game. The game will almost certainly never feature any kind of noncon/extreme sexual content.

What kind of sexual content is not acceptable in this game? Player character on player character non-con. The offending character would be jailed by the other Avengers. I don't tend to make a habit of writing it with villains either due to the game starting to feel like superhero sexploitation play, which is not this game's intention. (I have no issue with that content but this game isn't that.) Bestiality, Incest and other various sexual crimes that would fit the extreme category are similarly problematic in this game.

What's the stance on Recruit x Instructor relations? No problem whatsoever. All characters are 18+ and though they may be training one another they are ultimately all adults and are trusted to behave in a professional and responsible manner. Nobody has a true position of power over anyone else as the recruits may leave at any time, cannot 'fail' their training and they are not in traditional education.

Don't need to be steeped in lore to be involved here. Many characters have space for alternative interpretations and it's not in Marvel's 616 setting so there's no huge list of past events to worry about. Definitely happy to have the interest in Wiccan. If you've got any marvel questions I'm happy to help out as best I can.

Glad to hear it! Right now technically still an interest check but interest seems positive so far.

I'd like to grab Moonknight (as a recruit - in theory maybe a bit younger than canon?  Late teens to early twenties if it suits you)  & Hawkeye  (as an instructor) please.

I don't know what face claims yet.  I'll firm it up as I get the sheets done.  (I'm hot garbage at finding faces for my characters)

I'm not entirely sure Moon Knight would fit unless he's quite a heavy re-imagining on a personal level. I actually have a couple of good faceclaims for him but both of them definitely don't look early twenties. Just because he tends to be absolutely awful at working with others and incredibly violent. I'm open to hearing ideas though.

Hawkeye's definitely fitting though!

Praxis

*laughs and rubs face*

I might not be current with Moon Knight.  I remember him as crazy.  Distressingly so but not wholly unfunctional.  I don't want to be disruptive.  Let me see if I can come up with something better then.  :)

I might not be current with Moon Knight.  I remember him as crazy.  Distressingly so but not wholly unfunctional.  I don't want to be disruptive.  Let me see if I can come up with something better then.  :)

You're also doing non-canon for the recruits yes?

There's a few takes on him floating around to be honest. But I think almost universally every time he's worked with someone else it's gone pretty wrong sooner or later. He tends to create quite spectacular bloodbaths sooner or later.

And yes, non-canon's acceptable. I would generally prefer non-canon to be a little lower power but with wanting people like Moon Knight and Hawkeye I doubt that'll be an issue.

No huge rush but with the interest so far and knowing quite a few of those interested I will say this game's almost definitely going to go ahead.

As a note on the power levels in this game, there's going to be some pretty wild variance that's going to need some light suspension of disbelief along the whole 'If Thor is there why is Hawkeye there' logic. Thor can't be everywhere, and in this game the idea is that there's a lot less Thor's than there are Hawkeye's. The stronger instructors will often be trying to take a backseat role to help train and guide, or dealing with larger threats when really disastrous things happen.

Praxis

I'm kindof looking forward to that.  I appreciate the insecurity Clint Barton has regarding a need to never miss.  He's swimming in deep water filled with gods, legends and hulks.

Wasn't there a comic where he said, "If I miss, I'm just a guy with a bow and I can't be that guy.  So...I practice.  All the time."

I feel like there's a place for a guy like that as an instructor.

I'm not an expert on Hawkeye but I can definitely believe him saying something like that. He'll fit well as an instructor, he's certainly got the ideal attitude for getting others to push themselves. As for his faceclaim my natural suggestion would just be the MCU option as he has so many images in-costume.

Any which take on her would be more than welcome. There's been no depowering here, but we can figure an explanation based on what version you want to go with.

I'm sold at the surname Kravitz. Lenny's one of my favourite musicians of all time! And sounds good to me. Going with the original abilities provides the option to expand into the others down the line at least, maybe more naturally than the other way around would.

I think based on the interest in <12 hours I can say the game's past interest check and properly recruiting. Loving the enthusiasm thus far!

Query? In the original canon, Angel was saved by Wolverine who took her to the Xavier Institute. Should I be following that? (I don't see how it would be possible to do so, seeing as I wanna play her young...like 18 to 21) Since this will be a divergent timeline of sorts, it really shouldn't matter, should it?

ETA: ack, nevermind...the CS answered that for me.

All the instructors do head out on missions. I was thinking of having a kind of black ops department. Or at least occasional times Nick Fury / SHIELD get a few of the more morally grey heroes to help him out.

It is. Of course it limits Marvel's age a little. And if someone wants to write Monica that's got to be left open. Whether they remained together is up to you though they don't even have to get on anymore.

The good thing about Marvel is that his backstory can be kept almost exactly the same. He was a hero back in the day, but because he was black he had to wear a mask. When the mask got torn during a fight where he basically saved the planet, Kennedy had to ask him to resign since the world wasn't ready for a black man with that much power to be protecting them. So he went into self-exile, did all his background adventures, etc... and came back when his help was needed again. And due to the nature of his powers, he's basically immortal and stopped aging in his thirties.

Just going to go with a 2019 start, so twelve years of time with The Avengers being around. Heroes on the whole have certainly been around quite a lot longer than that though.

Definitely, that all fits and makes sense to me. Just wanted to note on the age front. It doesn't really affect Marvel much. The only time I've seen his age listed he was in his 80's.

I think Logan might be one of the eldest. Hyperion's in his late fifties. At least one of the oldest at the Academy. I've got Nick Fury at 95 but he's head of SHIELD not a part of the Academy. There is no one leader of the Academy, if anyone's curious. Captain America's probably the closest thing to the face of it. Just in case anyone's wondering.

I think to explain his being in-place as (I'm guessing an Instructor?) it makes sense to have him be king of wakanda but someone else be currently ruling in his stead? If that fits for you. Since someone's got to watch the throne whilst he's doing his hero thing.

Alias: Logan
Age: Appears Mid/late 30's, Actual age is classified
Gender: Male

Physical Description
Height: 5'9
Weight: 325
Face Claim: Tom Hardy
General Appearance: Logan sports a dense musculature and broad set of shoulders and arms. Underneath he is a hairy man and doesn't really bother with the whole upkeep part, with a few exceptions. He prefers to wear Jeans, Flannel, boots and leather and haws yet to "clean up".  Logan has thick facial hair and long hair who appears more a mountain man/lumberjack than an agent/teacher.

Personality and History

Personality

Logan is everyone's favorite gruff loner with a firm code of personal honor and morality. While he tends to keep to himself, it is not uncommon for him to step up as a leader or teammate when needed/ necessary. Despite the appearance of his brutish nature, he is extremely knowledgable and has experienced much in his long life which has earned him a wide variety of skills, languages, and contacts. Logan shines under duress in the thick of combat, the man is 100% gut instinct honed to a deadly precision.

Biography

Logan has been around for over 100 years. Recent memories have begun to emerge of him serving in the civil war back in the 1800s. His history is highly restricted or simply lost to time. Those he has met along the ways hold pieces and may offer or keep them as they deem fit. One thing is certain, Logan is a survivor and the last person you want to piss off.

The most recent of information about Logan and "Wolverine" dates back to the Weapon X project when he was turned into a living weapon. He has had numerous run-ins with other people but shouldn't take it for granted if they need to jog his memory. He has been working on and off with the Avengers and SHIELD for the last few years but he has a tendency to wander off every now and then. With his new position within the academy, he has been the most stationery he has been in his lifetime.

Superpowers & Equipment

Accelerated healing process - typically referred to as mutant healing factor, that regenerates damaged or destroyed tissues of his body far beyond the capabilities of an ordinary human. In addition to accelerated healing of physical traumas, Logan's healing factor makes him extraordinarily resistant to diseases, drugs, and toxins. However, he can still suffer the immediate effects of such substances in massive quantities; he has been shown to become intoxicated after ingesting significant amounts of alcohol.

Superhuman acute senses - making him capable of seeing things at a maximum distance greater than a normal human’s. His hearing is enhanced in a similar manner, and he is able to recognize people and objects by scent, even if that person or object is hidden. He can use these enhanced senses to track any creature with an impressive degree of success.

Adamantium skeleton

Logan's skeleton includes six retractable one-foot long bone claws, three in each arm, that are housed beneath the skin and muscle of his forearms. He can, at will, release these slightly curved claws through his skin beneath the knuckles on each hand. The skin between the knuckles tears and bleeds, but the blood loss is quickly halted by his healing factor. Logan can unsheathe any number of his claws at once, although he must keep his wrists straight at the moment his claws shoot from his forearms into his hands. When unsheathed, the claws are fully within his hands, and thus can still bend his wrists. The claws are naturally sharp and tougher than that of normal human bone structure, allowing him to cut through most types of flesh and natural materials on top of reinforcing his body and making him extremely resilient.

Skills

Skill Name:

Shield Operative Training

Leadership/Tactical Training

Master Martial Artist/Combatant

Mechanic/Gear Head

Weaknesses: Redheads, Deep waters, Heavy trauma/Fire attacks (which he can not heal from), mental attacks

Could you send this to me via PM please, thank you!

Aiden

I didn't go too deep into the background for reasons.

So anyone who wants or had Logan interaction in the background for anything specifically we can work it out ooc.

Otherwise, it can be glazed over.

Stuff that is glazed over cuz it is part of major canon arcs
Example- Cap serving with him in WW2
Logan working with Xmen.

Stuff to work out in IC background.
Teaming up for some mission to save X

I would definitely love if someone could write Cloak!

I'm also really hoping to find people to write: Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow

I'd appreciate if you two can figure out things between Scarlet Witch and Wiccan. I'm comfortable with some odd dimensional things, since they're both so entrenched in that side of things anyway it should be reasonably easy to explain. I am happy to mediate if needed. Just let me know.

As a note about ages in case anyone's curious I realised I didn't mention it. This game's PC's are 18+ only. It's a semi-military organisation they wouldn't take under 18's in.

Daelen

Consider me interested, but I have a question:

I have ideas for a Spider-Man inspired character that is still an OC. Taking inspiration from an actual suit he wore, I want to play a character named Iron Spider. A little bit Spider-Man, a little bit Iron Man, all new personality. Would that be doable, or is it too similiar to existing characters to work?

Realistically probably too similar to Peter/Tony. It's hard to say without seeing the powers but if it's based on the Iron Spider suit then it cuts off potential for Peter to wear it. It would probably been a bit of a spin and altered visuals to really try and pull it away from being just Peter as Iron Spider but not Peter. Apologies!

Daelen

No need for apologies. I'm still considering things, might join as one of the remaining canon characters if something strikes my fancy!

Worth noting that the Iron Spider suit has been worn by a couple characters other than Peter in various media. While MJ is already a taken character and Aaron Davis, Miles Morales' uncle, is off the table due to being a supervillain, there are still a couple candidates.

One option is one of the clones of Michael Van Patrick, alias MVP, a member of the post-Civil War Initiative. Three clones were made of him, all wearing Iron Spider suits.

The other likely candidate is Amadeus Cho, alias Mastermind Excello, the Totally Awesome Hulk, and Brawn. While he never piloted the Iron Spider armor in comics canon, he took on the mantle of Iron Spider in the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon.

It's somewhat more the reality of their similarities to Peter/Tony in a group game than their workability as an actual concept. Amadeus Cho would definitely make it more unique and different since he's a very different person to Peter/Tony. I can't say I know much about MVP though.

I would have to discuss it with our resident web-slinger. But there's quite a lot still open and space for OC's too.

So. Could I maybe take a spider-woman similar to the earth 1610 version of ultimate spider-woman - Jessica Drew a female clone of spider-man? I presume spider man Peter Parker will be in his mid or early twenties. I was thinking of a younger version of Peter Parker’s mind of 18 years. High school senior. Recently grown. A new hero struggling to redefine herself with out dated memories and limited hero experience. She’d have a fresh memory of uncle Ben’s death haunting her. I seriously hate the Jackel clone saga but this interests me.

Depends why they want the canon. If they're literally just exactly them with a different gender that's more reasonable. IE with the same history and personality etc.

If it's just about the powers then a relative or similar makes more sense to me, usually.

Lockepick

So I'll be frank that I mostly just want the powers and the name -- and them being somewhat of a midwestern farm boy is sort of the joke in the name. I'm pretty sure we're all re-writing the history given the set up of the game, and the ages of characters.

With all this in mind -- should I present this as a gender-bent Husk, or come up with a new character that would invalidate the original canon character from joining anyway?

Heya,

Absolutely still recruiting. I'm open to either. But for first two characters I'd be looking for one recruit one instructor, so it depends if you see one as being a recruit. I can only really see Carol in the role of instructor. Jessica could potentially work as a recruit, I suppose? I'm open to ideas.

Probably comic. Put your own spin on it though! You can use influences from film/tv as long as it fits with the things established in this universe. Like a fair bit's being done with the Kree at the moment, which is relevant to Carol. You're welcome to PM me if you want to discuss things.

This could be a Canon character such as Pym or Beast, or could be an OC if that would work better. If the techie character is an OC, instructor character would probably be more action oriented such as Wonder Man or Captain Britain.

Any particular thoughts? Thanks.

I would say, instinctively, Pym would be pretty awesome to have around. I rarely see him. In this setting I slightly envision Beast taking a more diplomatic role and probably spending a fair bit of time with the X-men still. He is an option but I think Pym fits better with the roster.

OC's are welcome too - if you want a tech based OC who's combat-focused that's fine too. But a Hank Pym Ant-Man would be my personal suggestion.

Edit: Updated the list of taken FC's. One came off, few more went on.

Also fully fixed the lists of taken / available canon characters.

Oh, I just had a really fun idea if I can get at least two others to go in on it with me. And if Sun is OK with it obviously.

Short Version- Thor’s buddies! The Warriors Three! And we can easily make room for the Lady Sif if there’s a fourth.

Personally, I’m leaving Volstagg. Maybe more along the lines of the MCU version where he’s not flat out obese but definitely dad bod. :P

I would definitely be up for having them around if you can find the people to take on the other roles in the trio.

Kadigan

I liked the comic they had featuring those three a while ago.

Role: Instructor, considering bringing some of his offspring in the future.

Physical Description
Age: Thousands [Asgardian Equivalent to starting to enter Middle Age.]
Gender: Male
Species: Asgardian
Height: 6'8". Yes, he's fully aware that he's actually taller then Thor.
Weight: Seems to Fluctuate between wildly between 900 pounds and 1400 pounds. By Asgardian standards he is considered moderately but noticeably overweight.
Eye Colour: Blue
Hair Colour: Red
General Appearance: It's fortunate that Asgardian Armor adapts to it's wearer as he wears his like it's a second skin. Appears every bit the old oaf and past-his-prime Warrior and Adventurer his reputation makes him out to be, and that's not all that inaccurate. Is frequently seen looking for food, drink, telling stories, or grooming his rather large beard. Some anthropologists have a theory that Volstagg was the original inspiration for the figure that became Santa Clause in popular culture.

It's easy to forget that Volstagg was at one point considered one of the fieriest warriors in all of Asgard - but then the call for Battle rises and he finds his Axe.

Personality & History

Personality: The initial impression of Volstagg is that he's a creature of voracious appetites. Food, Drink, Music, Sex, Battle - he wants it all and he'll gorge himself on it if given even the slightest opportunity. It's almost easy to forget that he was at one point known as one of the Asgard's fiercest Warriors and it's all still there. If you'd ask him he'd tell you that if a Warrior doesn't lust for Life as much as they Lust for Battle then what's the point?

The surprising part is that Volstagg is surprisingly good with his Sons and Daughters, but it makes sense if you think about it. He's had enough of his own to get the practice. He also has a surprisingly noble heart if prone to gluttony. Sure, he'll eat that entire boar by himself if you don't watch him, but he'll definitely go out and slay that Frost Giant monster terrorizing your village with a song in his heart. He himself doesn't really have interest in becoming an Avenger but he claims some of his offspring are curious and what kind of father would he be if he didn't check it out?

History: Where exactly the Truth ends and the Braggart's Tongue begins is sometimes difficult to say but a common theme is that it's always further along then a witness believes it is. Volstagg comes off as a Glutton and an Oaf, and maybe he is to some degree, but not as much as people think. Volstagg as an Asgardian, old enough to remember the announcement of the birth of Thor even if he was just a boy at the time. Always large for his age, he claims that he lived in the woods with his mother and learned to fight with just a woodsman's axe at first. Then he lied about his age to get into the Royal Guard for some official training then quit and became an Adventurer in his own right.

If you were to hear Volstagg tell it, he spent the next centuries as an Adventurer and Warrior for Asgard and became known as one of the fiercest in the 9 realms for a time. He claims to have slain monsters, completed quests, bedded maidens, and even at one point took under his wing the then known as Fandall the Quite Plain, Hugon the Good, and Thor the Welp under his wing and turned them all into fierce warriors in their own right. Clearly, these are all to be taken with a grain of salt. The surprise though is that the level of truth to his tales, if less than ideal, is much greater then you'd think. The monsters he claims to have slain, if you can find the remains you do find rather impressive axe wounds on them. The quests he claims to have completed, you can find proof that he at least took an active role.  It's sometimes difficult to tell and he's often exaggerating, but seems to never outright lie.

He won't deny he's slowed down a bit as he's entered his middle ages of course. Mostly due to an arranged marriage with one of the noble houses of Asgard. There was never any doubt that Volstagg the Valiant would provide the house a heir, even though the marriage was only political and arranged he and Hildegund have still had 8 sons and daughters together. The surprise is that he's actually a pretty good Dad too. He's currently at the Academy because a few of his Sons and Daughters are curious about spending a few 'semesters' training on Midgard and what kind of father would he be if he didn't at least check it out?

Superpowers

Asgardian Physiology: Volstagg's abilities all stem from his Asgardian heritage and physiology. In Volstagg's case some aspects of this are considered unusually high even by Asgardian standards but none are considered outright impossible.

  • Superhuman Strength - All Asgardians have at least some degree of Superhuman Strength when compared to baseline humans, usually somewhere around Class 30. In his prime Volstagg was Class 50. He still claims to be the Strongest Asgardian outside of the Royal Family and there might be something to that. He's certainly past his prime and not Class 50 anymore but he is still significantly stronger then even other Asgardians.
  • Superhuman Speed - As with all Asgardians he does have the ability to move at speeds faster then what human athletes can generate, though he does move noticeably slowly slower then other Asgardians save for in short sprints.
  • Superhuman Stamina - Volstagg's Stamina is considered high even by Asgardian standards though not beyond their scope. As such he can physically exert himself for about 24 hours solid before the build-up of fatigue toxins in his blood really begin to effect his performance.
  • Superhuman Density - As with all Asgardians, his tissues are about 3 times as dense as human counterparts.
  • Superhuman Durability - Covert SHIELD observations believe that the average Asgardians are still about as durable and resistant to injury as Spider-Man. Volstagg's durability is considered very high even by Asgardian standards, but plausibly so.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor - All Asgardians heal noticeably faster then baseline humans. Volstagg is no exception.
  • Superhuman Longevity - All Asgardians are extremely-long lived in comparison to normal humans. Volstagg appears to be a man starting to enter his middle age, but he's actually old enough to remember Thor's birth announcement while he himself was a "between a boy and a man" and Thor is 1,200+ years old.
  • Mystical Energy Manipulation - All Asgardians do have at least some potential to manipulate mystical energies, though usually not to the point actually being capable of consciously using Magic. In Volstagg's case all that's confirmed is he does pass on a little magical potential to his offspring. There is a theory that he might be able on an unconscious level using his little bit of mystical prowess to improve his body and to convert body mass into the energy for temporary boosts of his physical attributes, explaining his eating appetite and fluctuating body weight. This is only a guess though.

Skills and Equipment

Skills:

Man of War: With literal Centuries of Battle Experience, Volstagg has an experienced fighter and warrior with an innate since of tactics and combat. The degree to which is not really attainable by humans but only due to his increased lifespan.

Glutton for Combat: While his favorite weapon is a two-handed Axe he is still known to be proficient with the use of Swords, Lances, Quarterstaffs, Shields, and just in general using his Size as an advantage in Battle. He's also good with Horses and their applications on the battlefield.

Glutton for Life: Volstagg's ability to consume large amounts food and drink in single settings almost qualify as a Power.

Equipment:

Brandrheid Undrsigr: A double-headed Battle Axe and Volstagg's weapon of choice. It was forged by the Dwarves of Nidavellir and as such is of extremely high quality, is extremely durable compared to similar Earth-made weaponry, and is very sharp. However it is not further enchanted beyond that.

Flaws and Weaknesses

Flaws:

Past His Prime: Volstagg's speed, agility, and reflexes are all noticeably inferior to those of other Asgardians, and his Strength and Stamina are both while noticeably superior to the average Asgardian are not what they used to be. He is fully aware of this and somewhat in denial.

The Voluminous: - Volstagg's weight is strangely prone to fluctuations and that can be anything between 900 to 1425 pounds. Visually though, by Asgardian standards, all these fall under at least 'noticeably overweight'. While he does eat a large amount even by Asgardian standards his adventurer's lifestyle does usually keep him on the lighter end of this range where he's 'Rocking the Dad Bod' in Human terms.

Responsibilities of Fatherhood: A consequence of his 'Voracious' appetites, Volstagg is the biological father of 8 legitimate offspring and more then a few illegitimate. The surprise is that he really is trying to legitimately do right by them.

Weaknesses:

The Warrior's Madness: A feared failing known to all Asgardians is the Warrior's Madness, also known as the Sin Unpardonable. This is the most forbidden malady in Asgard by law of Odin. Any who fall under it must pay the penalty, only the most bitter sacrifice can atone for it. Giving in is said to increase a Warrior's strangth and stamina 10 fold but at the cost of their sanity and self-control. All Asgardian warriors are vulnerable to falling victim to Warrior's Madness when pushed too far.

Don't Mistake Appetite for Apathy: Volstagg really does seem to need to consume more calories then the average Asgardian. If the theory that his internal mystical energies really are using body mass to improve and sustain his body then one has to imagine that if he ever does truly go hungry it can't be a good thing.

Extras

The Warriors Three: - Sometimes, the Norns are Kind and they give an opportunity to create the one true form of Immortality. The Immortality of Legends. The Warriors Three are such a chance as three Asgardian warriors have discovered that the bonds of friendship and their complimentary skills can overcome challenges none could do alone. In the words of Volstagg the Voluminous, alone each of them are Incredible but but when working together they are the stuff of Legends.

Aw darn, Villain, that looks like such a great idea! Unfortunately, I can't write a male character to save my life but if you do have a spot for Lady Sif I'd be very happy to write her a CS ;D

Sif is totally available.

TheVillain

Oh Hell Yeah, Lady Sif was always about as close as you can get to a 4th Warrior Three for sure. Plus, the Asgardians know how to party. :P

Bumping with a slight update.

This game now has a Co-GM, Timeless, and all CS's sent in to apply for this game should be sent to both myself and Timeless.

A few canon characters have become available again. Captain Marvel, Jessica Jones and Jubilee specifically.

This game will also now have a social events thread to allow for some planned non-mission events.

Totoro

Avengers Academy is still actively recruiting in the new year. There remain a fair few big name characters I'd love to see alongside some smaller ones who'd be very welcome and OC's are still an option.

We have just moved to a new month so it's an ideal time to get involved. Current missions are wrapping so there will soon be a new set of missions to jump into.

The first social event will soon be taking place, too.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Hey, I'm interesting in joining.   Would I be able to play as the Stepford Cuckoos as students?  I think it'd be an interesting challenge to play as all five (or three) members of the hive-mind as a student character.

I'd keep them together for the most part, and play them all as a cohesive unit.  There'd be brief stretches of individuality.  Face Claim would be Skyler Samuels.

Totoro

Heya,

Just to be clear - there are no students in this game. The trainee characters are recruits, with a clear focus on training for combat scenarios not so much scholastic like the X-Men might be.

That being said the Cuckoos are an option. I would advocate going with three as it's probably more manageable and also advocate keeping them fairly 'together'.

FC noted.

So I'm fairly well acquainted with the Avenger's Academy comic series.  Is this the same academy as depicted there, or something more like the Young Avengers?

This is it's own thing. There's some parallels to a few things but this game/setting's lore is laid out in the first post of this thread.
