It was late, very late and the subway station was barren of life but Sloane didn't care, she was used to keeping late hours and riding the subway practically empty each evening. She stood on the platform for a while, tempted to take her book from her bag and flick through it but after glancing at her watch decided against it. The sub would be here any minute and at this hour it was rarely late. The day had been long but no more than usual. Working in a health spa had its benefits but it also had many pitfalls. Her aerobics class was the most popular there was in Bliques and because of this she had been bumped up to work five sets a day instead of the usual two. She wasn't complaining, the money was great and she got to view some amazing bodies all day long. Right now however her neck felt stiff and her arms felt as if she had over stretched them. A  noise from inside the tunnel alerted her to the arrival of the train and sighing she stepped forward staying behind the yellow line as it pulled up before her. Waiting for the doors to open took another minute or two and stepping aside to let some late night revelers out, Sloane finally entered.

It was almost empty inside, save for a few others but she didn't bother looking at anyone as she made her way to a decent seat. Sitting by the window with a seat free beside her and two free before her, she contemplated her judgment on sitting here. There were at least seven more stops before her own which meant anyone could get on and sit beside her. Too tired however she didn't bother to move but simply gazed out the window, her long blonde hair tied in a ponytail hung over her right shoulder as she wrapped her arms about herself pulling her jacket in tighter as she crossed one leg over the other. Her skinny jeans complimenting her slender toned legs as she did so. The journey would be long but at least she had her book with her, reaching into her bag she pulled it out and flicking open to her relevant page began to immerse herself in the now familiar story.

He left the club early by his own standards, he didn't care for the company anymore. Roman knew that the women around him didn't really like him, but his reputation, his wealth. He now owned a very successful software company, it made profit ever since his first idea. He stood outside the club enjoying the breeze, it was refreshing, unlike so many other things in his life. He wondered what exactly it was he was looking for, he had money, he was good looking, he could practically have any girl in the club. He wasn't sure what was missing but decided that he needs a change in his life, with that he continued enjoying the fresh air. The silent enjoyment was broken by a high pitched yell "Hey Roman!", he looked, some girl he had talked to earlier was walking towards him, "where are you going baby?" she asked. He ignored her coldly, lighting a cigaret and walked away. He thought about taking his car, but decided to keep walking in the refreshing breeze and see where the night takes him.

Roman approached the subway station and thought about taking the train, he took a look at his attire and decided that the jeans and white jacket didn't look too flashy, he didn't want to get mugged. He walked down the stairs and the fresh breeze turned into the well known musty subway air, a couple of drunk kids bumped into him on the way down, they were laughing and enjoying themselves, their careless attitude made him smile, remembering when he was like that. The platform was almost empty except a slender looking figure at the far end of the platform, it was a young woman. The train arrived and came to a stop, Roman entered an empty compartment, it smelled like someone had thrown up somewhere, "kids" he thought to himself. He walked to the next compartment, struggling a bit to maintain his balance, but felt a sense of determination, he was trying to find the young woman he saw on the platform. Inside the next compartment, he walked past a few people and saw the blonde girl sitting with her back towards him, she was sitting alone, Roman couldn't help but smile a bit. He sat down in front of her, leaning his head against the window, looking at her reflection in the window, she was reading a book. He knew it would take the train a while to reach the next station and thought he would just sit and wait for a bit.

The presence of another was unmistakable as a man about her own age, perhaps a little older sat opposite her. Sloane moved her legs to accommodate him, not bothering to glance up as this always invited unwelcome conversation and at this hour that was the last thing she wanted. A slender hand moved up to push some hair behind her ear as she continued to read her book. It was an old favourite of course and one she always carried with her, it didn't matter that she must have read it now about twenty times. The characters were brilliantly written as to almost seem alive though they were very much dead being vampires. The book was the Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice and so immersed she was in the trials and tribulations of Louis at the hands of Lestat that she slid herself down into the seat as if she were comfortably at home, tucked into her armchair.

Her legs that she had earlier uncrossed for his benefit, she began to cross again only to kick the man in the knee as she did so. Sloane sat up instantly and looked at the man for the first time. A deep apologetic look was etched upon her beautiful face as she gazed at him. He was handsome and the realization of it startled her for a moment, when she did at last find her voice it sounded soft like a caress.
"I am so sorry, I didn't mean too..." sitting up straight again she sat with her legs planted firmly on the ground crossed at the ankles instead. A blush had scorched her features as she had looked at him but once the apology had been made she hurriedly opened her book again having the distinct feeling that he had been staring at her.
