It was 7:45 am on a chilly fall morning in D.C. A young man made his way towards the school grounds, hearing the first bell ring, wearing a new pair of jeans, gray t-shirt with a black fitted leather jacket over top, a fitted hat on his head and a scarf around his neck. His hands were stuffed in his jean pockets as he took his time getting to the front doors of the school. He had no desire to come back to this place after what had happened to him. He wasn't even really sure what happened really. What he also didn't know was that he was being watched.
As he stepped into the building, unknown to him, three quick photographs were snapped of him as he placed his hat to face backwards on his head. The pictures were then transferred to a computer that was located in the van that housed the photographer. The computer did a face recognition and the boy's file popped up: Name: Caleb Donte Michaels
Age: 18
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 212lbs
Ethnicity: African American and Hispanic
Occupation: Student
Family: Scarlett Michaels (Deceased), Vince Michaels, No sibilings
Symptons: Blackouts, memory loss, increased dexterity, stamina and withdrawals
Caleb had been staying in the hospital for a little over a month after one day he went missing from school. He was found by a couple of hunters in the woods 17 miles in the country side near an abandoned highway. He was brought in and identified, but it was never fully explained how he got there. He didn't remember a thing. One minute he was at school and the next he was curled in laying on the leaf covered ground. The hospital had kept him for observations, placed him on a few drugs and tested him to gather symptoms, but got nothing. To the doctors, he was normal.
As soon as he stepped foot into the school, he could feel the stares and knew all of the murmur was about him. He glanced over to a group of popular girls, noticing the one that looked at him and then turned away as if he was someone who was up to no good. Veronica Del Rey was her name. She was part of the cool crowd but seemed more down to earth than anything. How she ended up with a group of people that bashed everyone was completely unknown since she was so nice to just about anyone she met. The fact that she looked away in disgust confirmed that the rumors have been heard by all. Caleb was now though of as the drug addicted kid who flipped out at school and got himself extremely misplaced.
When he opened his locked an avalanche of pill bottles fell to his feet. He stared down at them as the hallway exploded with laughter. He glanced over his shoulder and saw that nobody was hiding the fact that they were laughing at him. Filled with anger, he slammed his locker shut and walked off.
The bell to get to class rang, Caleb found solitude on the roof. He leaned on the rail and felt the wind blow gently against his face. He cursed into the air, feeling more out of place than ever before. Closing his eyes, he tried hard to remember what happened to him but as always everything came up as a blank. He shook his head and spoke softly to himself, "I must be going crazy."

"Caleb? Caleb Michaels still not back?" Advanced English was Caleb's first class and his name had caused a pause in the roll call. Veronica was sitting in the back with her friend when one said, "Probably smoking a blunt or popping pills in the bathroom." The girls laughed, Veronica eyed the empty seat that was suppose to be his. She raised her hand and asked to be excused, saying she had to go to the bathroom. She walked out of the classroom and made a pit stop in the bathroom to check her flowing long blue-black hair that hit halfway down her back and stood out nicely against her tan skin. She smiled at herself in the mirror before heading out. Her main goal was to find out where Caleb was. Walking towards his locker, she saw a janitor cleaning up the spilled pill bottles. Figuring he wouldn't be around that spot anymore, she turned around, heading in the other direction. If she had paid more attention she would have noticed that the janitor wasn't what he seemed to be. He was wearing slacks instead of beige pants. She did notice that there was no security guard roaming the halls today, but shrugged it off. That's just one less person questioning why she wasn't in class.
After a few more minutes of searching, she found the roof access door propped open. Shaking her head, she slipped inside of the door and headed up the stairwell. Pushing open the door to the roof, it was hard for her not to take in the fall air and different colors that the trees were displaying. She did wish she had brought her jacket with her, rubbing her arms. A short-sleeved dress, tights and lace up boots were not a good choice for today. Finally she spotted him leaning on the rail, moving closer and clearing her throat.
He turned and slowly faced her.
"Shouldn't you be in class? You're late....and you're not really helping with the rumors going around about you," she spoke softly as she stood a few feet from him. She had no clue really why she had went looking for him. He looked her over before meeting her hazel eyes. They gleamed as the sun hit them just right. She was perfect.
"So the class president, leader of the student body, most popular and liked girl is going to tell me how I should be acting now?" He laughed a little to himself. "Why did you come up here?"
He turned back around to look out over the city; he didn't even want to hear her reason. As soon as Veronica began to talk, she turned around, having felt another presence there. There was the janitor from earlier and a security guard standing on the roof with them now. She charmingly smiled at them, " I was trying to get him to come down. Sorry for the trouble. We'll just be off to class now."
The two men did not respond. Caleb sighed and turned around knowing that he would have to leave now, he was caught. The security guard turned his head and noticed Caleb, beginning to reach for his gun on his hip. Caleb got a strange look on his face; it registered to him that their security guards didn't carry guns. Veronica picked up on it too, her eyes getting big and glancing back at Caleb. The security guard pointed the gun at her just as Caleb rushed to her. Veronica closed her eyes tight and screamed. But, wait. She heard no "bang", felt nothing, in fact, it was as if everything around her stopped.
Slowly she opened her eyes and was amazed. Everything around her was frozen like space. She looked around and saw that Caleb was moving towards her, stuck in mid stride. Then she looked towards the security guard and saw the bullet that had left the gun floating, it's path coming straight for her head. Caleb was trying to push her out of the way. She seemed to catch her breath and it was as if someone had hit the play button again. Soon she felt herself getting grabbed and watched as the bullet caught Caleb on his left shoulder. They both fell to the ground, Caleb fell backwards, away from her, after being hit, clutching his shoulder as he leaned against a concrete wall in obvious pain.
The janitor held his hand to a small ear piece and then spoke, "Subject injured. We have a witness. We're going to have to clean this up."
Caleb felt Veronica kneel to his side as she began to scream for help. The security guard raised his gun to fire once again. Quickly Caleb grabbed onto her again, this time his eyes glazing over. Veronica noticed them and was amazed, but before she could question him, they disappeared from the roof into thin air.
The two men looked around the roof, stunned and making sure they weren't fooled. They really had disappeared before their eyes. A report was called in once more, "Target has escaped. Seems like the test was a success. Now we just need to track him down."
The message was interrupted when they realized that it seemed like they had missed an hour out of the day. The looked at their watches and saw that they were frozen. Not a hand was tick-ticking away. they had to wonder did Michaels have something to do with this. It was not documented that he could do this before. They missed an hour of the day, but it seemed like nothing had been missed. It was decided that they would look into it later. Right now, they had to find the witness. Michaels could run free, but she needed to be silenced forever.
