Hey! Every since I learned about Dungeons and Dragons (watching Critical Role is a heavy influence), I have wanted to experience the same fun.   :-)

I noticed there are quite a few system games cropping up on Elliquiy of late. However, a lot of them seem to be more geared towards experience players. Understandably so. They also tend to want 3 or more posts throughout the week. Again, understandable but I just can't do that.

I would be super happy if a group game could be created with a wonderful, experienced DM to lead the journey for other noob tabletop players such as myself.

Do Want

  • A safe space for people to learn how to play dungeons and dragons. I've added Pathfinder since someone mentioned it is also easy to learn.
  • A dungeon master with experience and patience (needs to be able to explain how to do rolls, help people with stats/character creation, and so forth)
  • A game that maybe only requires 1 post a week or so?
  • Preferably a light fantasy game??

I have no idea if anything would come of this but I thought I would send the general request out into the E universe and see what happens.

*plants flag of interest* Might I recommend curse of strahd? ;)

Were you interested as a noob-ish player or potential DM?

Zenkai

What version of d&d were you aiming at?  Given my alltogether too many years of gm-ing, I have both experience introducing new players to this horrible hobby, and a bit of patience. One or two posts per week are something I can manage easily.

Flower

I'm only familiar with two editions. I can't recall which one is better but I remember someone saying one is more enjoyable than the other. I have no idea if that's true or not. I do believe it's edition 5 and 3.5.

JaredSyn

I would be very interested in playing in a 3.5 game, if anyone is willing to DM. I have a rogue type warrior in mind I am eager to play.

Dezco

I'm pretty much a beginner at DnD. I'd love to join you guys! A slow-paced light fantasy game certainly sounds like fun!

Flower

Glad to see more interest! Hopefully we get more interest. (^^)

JaredSyn

I have been playing and DMing D&D for 35 years. 3.5 is the version I tend to play and DM. I could possibly start a game if we have enough interest, I woudl very much enjoy playing the character AI have in mind as well.

Flower

Well, whomever wants to start it, feel free! You can link here if you'd like once it's done and posted on the board.

Sethala

I'm not sure if I've got room on my plate for another campaign, but I would be willing to help out with understanding how the game works and making characters.  However, if you guys are thinking about using 3.5, I'd highly recommend taking a look at Pathfinder.  The systems are very similar (enough that Pathfinder is generally referenced as D&D 3.75), but Pathfinder tweaks a lot of the more fiddly rules to be more streamlined and easier to understand.

PervCelebre

I would be willing to play in a low key game. The only DND experience I have is The Adventure Zone and they play 5e.

Chulanowa

So, I've actually been wanting to run a D&D game of late, this might be a good opportunity to do so  :D

If you're interested, I'd prefer using Pathfinder; Like Sethala said, it's all-around "smoother" than 3.5, without actually changing anything radically. it also has very accessible online resources to draw off of. I can also do 5E easily enough, if preferred by the players!

Let me know if you're still up for it.  :-)

JaredSyn

I have not played much pathfinder myself but would be willing to give it a try. I do not care for 4th or 5th edition D&D.

greenknight

I'm willing to run 5e for beginners. Here are starting resources:

Pre-gen characters (with discussions and sample progressions): http://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/StarterSet_Charactersv2.pdf

Basic Rules (will allow you to make your own limited characters): http://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/PlayerBasicRulesV03.pdf

Can play over forum or Discord. If there's overwhelming desire, I'll try to learn Roll20, but Discord and Roll20 will require all players to agree to a scheduled game night. For forum play, I'd post on Mondays and Thursdays, perhaps more often in combat.

The game would start within two weeks, otherwise my schedule gets too uncertain to ensure I can still run the game to a conclusion.
When you bang your head against the wall, you don't get the answer, you get a headache.

Looks like greenknight came in better-prepared than I. I concede!

next time, though...

Flower

Sure thing. Whomever sets up a game can just PM people with the link to their interest thread.

Well, considering the only group game that had noob players as the focus has recently fallen apart because two of the three groups didn't even show up, while the third only got one round of posts up before half of THEM disappeared, the DM understandably didn't think it was worth continuing.  As such, while I'd be interesting in seeing this taken up by someone willing to teach people like us, I'm not holding my breath at this point since I've had rotten luck joining ANY D&D system game.  Either they die or they don't even get off the ground.

Oooh. I'm sorry to hear that but I think there's still hope! :) Group games are tricky. You just have to keep digging and eventually you'll find a good one.

Vergil1989

True, group games are tricky unless they're mindless sex fests.  Those seem to work just fine around here when they aren't system games.  'Rolls eyes.'  Sorry but I won't be holding my breath on this happening anytime soon.

A SOLO game might not be quite as difficult to get together, at the very least a very small group with a good DM, but groups?  Right....

That's not necessarily true. Those are short lived.

Either way, I rather not fall into the temptation of being negative. I find that makes people flee rather than attract them.

Vergil1989

Sorry, it's been a very bad day on this end.  Found out my youngest brother has kidney stones, after a month of them scratching their butts wondering why he was having issues.

Ugh, I'm just tired and all, and you're right, being negative isn't gonna help.  My luck with D&D related stuff has been pretty abysmal, so yeah....  I'm HOPING it works out though, truly.  :D

I'm sorry to hear you're having a bad day. That does sound terrifying.

But yes, it will eventually happen. -fingers crossed- If not, it's not the end of the world. There's always Critical Role to enjoy. Either that or High Rollers.
