Peeps or Creme Eggs!?

It's that time again!

The shelves are filling with delectable Easter goodies and tempting us sugar-holics to surrender unto their promises of sweet oblivion!

Two of my favorites happen to be Peeps and Cadbury Creme Eggs.

I also happen to know that they are two highly debated confections, so I'd like to see which people prefer of the two (or neither)!

My choice will always be Peeps!  Any color!  Anytime!   Anywhere!  It's Peeps for me! ;D

Have you tried the Mystery Flavor ones? There's three this year. I can't quite figure out what they are though!

I didn't know about those but I can't eat sugar these days and don't have little ones to buy for so haven't been out exploring the candy aisles.  Sounds like I'll have to round up the neighborhood kids and do some research! :-)

Reminded me of S'mores Peep Pie!

Graham Cracker Crust (make your own and use a glass pie dish)
1 Large bag of chocolate morsels
Enough peeps to fill the crust

Layer half the morsels in the crust, wedge in as many peeps as you can and be creative with the design, sprinkle remaining chocolate morsels on top.  You know your microwave better than I do so use the timer and setting that will turn those marshmallow critters into puddles. 

NOTE:  If you use a store bought pie crust you gotta do this in the regular oven otherwise your kitchen looks like the Mighty Thor had a tantrum.

Apropos of everything:

Graham cracker crust recipe:

1.5 cups graham cracker crumbs (can be bought, but mashing them with a rolling pin is so therapeutic)
1/3 c sugar
6 Tbsp butter, melted
1/2 tsp cinnamon, if you want.

Mix dry ingredients.  Drizzle in butter and squish it into a dry paste.  Press into pie plate.  To pre-bake, stick in a 375F oven for 7 minutes.  For an unbaked crust, stick in the fridge for an hour.

Truthfully I'm not a fan of either, but the Creme eggs disgust me and Peeps are made near the town I was born in so I have to give it to the Peeps.  They are too cute, especially when you get to see the Peep mobile, and I don't mind them, just not a big marshmallow fan unless roasted over a fire.  It's funny they do this who Peep fest every year and have a special New Years celebration just for kids. 

So, Peeps rule.

I'm definitely an egg fan, myself. I've never really liked Peeps. I mean, they're great for blowing up, just not too big into eating them. Though, I prefer the caramel eggs. The creme is too... creamy for me.

The grocery store got a fresh shipment...so I'm almost assuredly going to glut myself on delicious Cadbury goodness soon.  ;D

The caramel ones just seem like a regular old Caramello to me I guess. The creme ones are special! And yup! Chocolate! :D

I like both just as equally. Every spring, I make it a goal to only allow myself one package of peeps and one egg. My hubbs wont eat any of them, and I have no kiddos to buy for or share them with, so I'm on my own.

I'm with Lioness, I love them both and have to limit myself during the Easter season. Although now they are releasing both of them year-round seems like for each holiday, just with different holiday packaging.

To further the question, how many like to open their Peeps and let them get a little hard? (No double entendre intended.... really)

I never heard of this even though my mother loved these things until people at work started doing it and I found out a lot of people do it.  They open the package and let it sit for a few hours or days even.  I guess some people have complained they don't seem to stiffen up like they use to in the past.  Never did this but never tried it.

Oh, and I don't know if anyone tried them or if they are still out but Walmart had these elusive ones that were like dipped in like a flavored white chocolate.  they came in like lemon and orange and maybe lime.  I think those were the best I've had so far.

I like them both ways, actually. I'm really not super picky when it comes to sugar! lol! But usually I eat them straight out of the packet, and then when the kids have had their fill and there's open packages of peeps laying around getting hard, I eat those too!

I haven't seen the flavored ones dipped in chocolate though. I've had the plain ones dipped in milk chocolate, and the flavored ones, but not both together. I might have to melt some chocolate and go try that myself! ;)

I love them both ways too. But as much as I adore Peeps, I’ve got to give the final vote to the Crème Eggs. I’ve loved those gooey, gross things since I was a kid, and old loves die hard.

Dont know about Peeps her in Oz but laughed so hard at the vid it would be peeps if we had them here.

Creme eggs are just so OTT sweet for me I dont like them.

I would go with eggs because I never liked peeps, but someone got the kids a mystery flavor peep and I was sort of desperate for sugar. So I eat one, and it was awesome . No clue what it was, but it won me over. so peeps.

Hm. I'm not real big on Peeps, but I would prefer them over Creme Eggs. I never could get to liking those things. The only part I'd take was the chocolate... Now, if you're talking chocolate oranges or a chocolate egg with no creme in the middle... Then that's my kind of treat. Make it dark chocolate and we've got my winner.

Eggs are delicious immediately. Peeps are only good after you let them go stale for a month or so. So my vote goes to the eggs.
