NAME: John Paul Harrison

NOM DE GUERRE: Delta-V

PLAYER: ebpohmr

AGE: 17

GENDER: Male

SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bisexual

POSITION/GRADE: Senior

ORIGIN: Spontaneous expression following spike emotional trauma

RESIDENCE: Plymouth, England

PARENTS AND RELATIVES OF NOTE:
Mother - Audrey Harrison, born 1956, Housewife. Runs online auction shop selling craft supplies. Strong family values but tends to be submissive
Father - Matthew Peter Harrison, born 1950, Pastor. Former missionary and navy chaplain. Strong Christian values, strict, tends to be dominating
Brother - Luke Bartholomew Harrison, born 1982, Chef. Owns and runs restaurant 'Sapori D'Italia'. Independent and headstrong.
Sister - Sarah Harrison, born 1988, Medical Student. Working to become a Pediatric surgeon. Caring, studious and dependable.

POWERS:
Major: Telekinesis
John Paul possesses the capability to transfer the chemical energy within his body into kinetic energy of objects, resulting in observable telekinetic activity. His ability is limited by the energy stored within his body and should he push his abilities too hard, especially with his currently insufficient degree of control, he will enter a state of hypoglycaemic shock. Depending on the energy deficit, this shock may be sufficient to render him unconscious, comatose or dead. A side effect of using his powers for any major or sustained effort is a massive increase in hunger and metabolic rate until his chemical energy stores are replenished.

Minor: Levitation
John Paul is able to use his telekinetic abilities to affect himself. This mainly permits him to levitate and fly. Although he has the capability to throw himself out of the path of danger, he uses this aspect of the power only in emergencies because feeling like he is punching himself with his mind weirds him out.

The Appearance

EYE COLOR: Cloudy grey-blue with light grey-blue flecks

HAIR COLOR: Cappuchino brown with light brown highlights.

HEIGHT: 5ft 11in / 182cm

WEIGHT: 155 lbs / 70.5kg

BODY TYPE: Normal build, lithely muscled from favouring outdoor exercise such as running or swimming.

APPEARANCE: Keeps himself well-groomed and favours a smart-casual wardrobe featuring open-collared shirts and jackets.

Beyond the Image

LIKES: Friendly people, dogs, flying, maths, science, dancing, pop & dance music, running, swimming, Italian & Oriental food, coffee, creating motion art with his powers, saving lives and helping people.

DISLIKES: Intolerance (especially by religious groups), overbearing authority, being a lab rat, psychiatrists, centipedes/millipedes, Christian choral music, over-seasoned food, people who drive under the influence, bullies and his father.

TALENTS:
Having taken an interest in the mechanics behind what he can do, John Paul is great with numbers, especially in the arena of applied mathematics.
With a genuine interest in getting to know people and help others, he is both sociable and a good teacher.
John Paul has an excellent grasp of spatial mechanics and is easily capable of keeping track of the position of multiple objects.
Matching his control of kinetic energy with his knowledge, John Paul can create short-lived, breathtaking works of moving sculpture.
While not in the same class as his brother, John Paul can work a kitchen and favours preparing Italian and oriental cuisine.

CHARACTER TRAITS:
Brave - Not afraid to leap after he looks into the abyss
Adventurous - Curious to try new things and see new places
Loyal - A friend is for life, not just the party he meets them at
Friendly - A stranger is a friend he hasn't gotten to know yet
Rash - Is prone to leaping before he looks
Direct - Sometimes he forgets people need white lies
Trusting - Why would people lie about that?
Rebellious - Doesn't respond well to hands-on authority

PERSONALITY:
Given his strict upbringing, John Paul is remarkably well-adjusted. He makes friends easily and adjusts well to new situations. If there is a friend in need, John Paul will do whatever it takes to help them - a tendency that has gotten him in trouble when the friend is less than honest with him. While he appreciates the need for authority figures, he doesn't tend to deal with it well when those same figures get directly involved in his affairs. John Paul has a creative bent and enjoys creating works of art.

BACKGROUND:
Like many kids growing up in a strict Christian household and attending a Christian primary school, John Paul's early experiences were shaped by the beliefs of his parents, specifically his father. It wasn't until he started attending secondary school that his eyes were opened to the many charms and diversions of the wider world. He wanted to see and try it all, but his father's oft stated beliefs otherwise hurt the young teen. Unable to stand up to his father, he started resisting other sources of authority. This created more trouble between himself and his father, eventually sundering the household enough that John Paul had to move in with his older brother. Having been through a similar process, although less confrontational about it than John Paul, the older brother was able to provide an environment that helped foster adventure and imagination.

Free of his father's disapproval at home, John Paul grew in leaps and bounds. Becoming less openly rebellious, he began doing better in school and found that he actually enjoyed some of the syllabus. Free of the strict rules he had grown up with, he started socialising and partying a lot more. Helping his brother in the kitchen at home, John Paul discovered a love for home cooking. He enjoyed discovering girls although, after a talk from his brother and sister, he became a lot more careful with his dalliances. He even experimented with boys and found it to be an enjoyable experience. By the end of Year 10 (NB - freshman equivalent) John Paul was a happy, productive student well-liked by his peers and was eager to return to his studies after the summer.

Then the incident occurred and everything changed. On the 12th August 2010, the family came together for his mother's 54th birthday at Sapori D'Italia, the restaurant run by John Paul's brother. The meal went well, so well in fact that it was one of the nicest family moments John Paul could remember. Afterwards, as they all climbed into the car home, something prompted John Paul to turn and look back. As a result, he was the only one of the group who saw the oncoming hatchback clip a parked car and careen out of control. With fifteen-hundred kilo's of metal flipping and hurtling towards him, all John Paul could do was watch in stunned horror. The car flipped into the air and, despite knowing that there was nothing he could do against that kind of momentum, John Paul threw his arms up to try and stop it. In the last moments of his life he closed his eyes, wishing he could have done something, anything to save his family.

Something flashed through him, red-hot and prickly. Then the screaming started. Opening his eyes, through his shaking vision, he could make out the car hanging in mid-air only inches from his outstretched arms. He blinked, trying to think through what was happening, but his thoughts had turned to glue. He felt cold, so very cold. And so very tired. As a wave of hot-cold darkness dragged him into unconsciousness, he just had time to recognise the tortured, grinding sound of the hatchback falling to the floor.

When he awakened in hospital three days later, John Paul found out that everything had changed. His first clue were the suited men standing guard in his room. The second came when their superior introduced himself as being from the Department of Superhuman Affairs. The final clue was being told that from the start of the next term, the remainder of his schooling would take place at Nebula High. After several hours, he was allowed to see his family and there too he discovered much change. Now disowned by his father, his mother had been unable to visit John Paul in hospital. She had sent a care package through his sister though and a letter. His siblings seemed to have taken the development in their stride, although it was obvious neither really knew what to make of it.

Between getting out of hospital and starting at the new school, John Paul was poked and prodded by every specialist that could persuade the DSA to permit them their investigations. As much as he needed to know how he did what he could do, the teenager quickly grew to hate those sessions. The worst were the head-doctors with all their questions - as if he had had enough time to figure out how he felt about anything yet! Eventually though, it was time to travel to Nebula High.

It was hard at first, adapting to the new environment, so similar to what he had known and yet totally different. But adapt he did, and soon learned to enjoy his new circumstances. (Leaving this vague to fill in later/build with returning students who want to link our backgrounds somehow!)

After two successful years at Nebula High, John Paul anticipated returning for his Senior year.

AGE: 17

GENDER: Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual

POSITION/GRADE: Junior

ORIGIN: Megan is a second generation hero and inherited her father's powers.

RESIDENCE: Boston, Massachusetts

PARENTS AND RELATIVES OF NOTE: Her father was Anthony Adagio, better known as Outcry, a Sentinel of Honor who perished in a battle against The Decimator.  Andrew Adagio is Megan's grandfather and retired federal judge.  Jennifer Martrone is Megan's mother and is an assistant district attorney.

POWERS:
Major - Sound Manipulation: Megan can create and modify sound waves to mimic, intensify, hush, and distort, as well warp, strengthen, echo, speed up, and slow down sound.
Minor - Hearing and equilibrium are protected from the effects of sound

The Appearance

EYE COLOR: Brown

HAIR COLOR: Naturally dark brown, but typically has blonde streaks or highlights.

HEIGHT: 5'7"

WEIGHT: 134 lbs

BODY TYPE: slender and curvy

Beyond the Image

LIKES: Music, Singing, Cheerleading, English, Theater, Photography, Romance, Pranks, Guys who treat her well, Kissing.

DISLIKES: The Decimator, Studying Law, Criminals, Bullies, Math, Science, Jerks

TALENTS: Megan is a naturally gifted singer though most people likely think she cheats by using her powers.  She has a great eye for detail which helps with her photography.  She's good at acrobatics and dance, and slightly above average in self-defense.

CHARACTER TRAITS: Sweet, Upbeat, Mischievous, and Outgoing.

PERSONALITY:  Megan is fairly loud and boisterous though tries to be respectful and considerate when appropriate, if she recognizes the need.  She's fairly easy to get along with on a one to one basis, but in a larger group she is mindful of individual's popularity and has a desire to associate with people who are most liked.  She will stand up for what she believes in and push back when she's had enough.  Megan's mischievous streak runs deep and she enjoys playing practical jokes on friends and strangers alike.

History:
The daughter of Outcry, a Sentinel of Honor who perished in a battle against The Decimator, Megan was raised by her mother and grandfather without ever knowing who her father had been.  She attended private schools until she was twelve, at which time her powers began to manifest.  Luckily for her and her family, the broken windows over a three block area were easily explained by a low flying military jet breaking the sound barrier.  Now that the government was involved in Megan's life, her overprotective mother and grandfather could do little to prevent her from experiencing the secret life they had tried to hide from her.

It was during her freshman year at Nebula high that Megan had learned about her father.  Her eagerness to learn more about Outcry quickly turned to interest about the Sentinels of Honor and then a slowly growing obsession with their nemesis The Decimator.  Her obsession has been brought to the attention of the faculty and the school councilor has worked with Megan since her freshman year.

Megan joined the cheer team in her sophomore year.  She loves being involved with the school and likes most of the other girls on the squad even if certain personalities make things difficult.  She also joined the school's theater group.  She's been in and out of detention due to her habit of pulling pranks but isn't generally thought of as a troublemaker.

Megan's home life has become tense as she resents her mother and grandfather keeping her father's identity a secret from her.  She barely talks with her grandfather and is known to avoid her mother's phone calls.  Megan is quite happy that she spends most of the year at Nebula high and has found cheerleading camps or theater groups, away from Boston, to fill her last two summers.

Entering her Junior year, Megan is looking to having a lot of fun and  continuing to learn control over her powers.

Ok, we're closing the Interest Thread today.

We'll take one or two more players, but no more after that.  We may open this thread up again at a later date but for now we need to limit things.

does this mean my character is approved or no?

I need to wait for Josi to wake up to discuss pending characters.  You're probably fine though.

Not to worry... the "only one or two more characters" thing is in addition to those who have already expressed interest and/or submitted a sheet.  :-)

NAME: Tess L. Coils

NOM DE GUERRE: Megawatt

PLAYER: Shadowfox89

AGE: 16

GENDER: Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bi-curious.

POSITION/GRADE: Student

ORIGIN: Tess's powers are inherited, mostly from her father's side but also from her mother.

RESIDENCE: Chicago, Illinois.

PARENTS AND RELATIVES OF NOTE: Nikolai "Thunderstruck" Coils (father, hero), Alana "Gearshift" Coils (mother, hero), Zakhary "Teravolt" Coils (paternal grandfather, semi-retired supervillain)

POWERS:
Major- Electrical generation. Tess can generate and manipulate an electrical field somewhere around the 1,600 volt range for extended periods of time, though she can put out ten times that for single strikes. She has to take sponge baths, however, as immersion in water will short her out for a brief period. This has some utility too, such as allowing Tess to arc weld with her fingertips, power electrical devices.

Minor- Hyper intellect. Tess can make herself smarter and think faster than any normal human. However, this requires her to "juice up" by an outside source of electricity. This also gives her invulnerability to electrical based attacks, as any such would simply hypercharge her mind. The downside to this is that overclocking her mind gives her a high, making her much more cheerful and outgoing than normal, and prone to taking actions that she normally might not.

The Appearance

EYE COLOR: Blue-green with specks of yellow occasionally arcing through, as if lightning.

HAIR COLOR: shoulder length wavy red

HEIGHT: 5'1

WEIGHT: 100lbs

BODY TYPE: Small/thin

APPEARANCE: Tess is short and thin with a small chest. She usually wears a pair of khaki slacks and a white shirt. She carries a backpack around wherever she goes, filled with tools and a battery that she uses to charge herself up when need be.

Beyond the Image

LIKES: Computers, books, keeping her mind occupied, mints, trying new things

DISLIKES: Physical confrontation, water (shorts her out), arrogant people

TALENTS: Tess is very good with her hands, having an interest in mechanics. She dreams of one day building her own armor suit, powered by her own electricity, but knows she currently lacks the aptitude or finances for such a thing.

CHARACTER TRAITS: Tess is nerdy and shy, she would rather be working on a machine than partying with friends.

PERSONALITY: See character traits

History

The only daughter of her family, Tess always enjoyed having just enough attention. While her parents were always busy with their jobs, they never passed up the chance to encourage and push her forward. Of course, she was never told what exactly they did. Tess even had posters of both her parents hung on her bedroom wall for several years, going as far as having a crush at one point on her father's alter-ego (a fact which a very red faced Tess will vehemently deny).

For years, it seemed that Tess would never 'mature' into having powers as her parents had. She had not so much as shown an aptitude for electrical manipulation as her father was capable of, nor did she have the technical prowess or ingenuity of her mother. Of course, that changed recently when, during her sixteenth birthday, when her grandfather zapped her with enough electricity to kill a normal person. Of course, this supercharge had some side effects, none of which Tess remembered the next day.

Tess was promptly given an explanation on who exactly her parents were, who her grandfather really was, and what the hell just happened. Then her parents enrolled her in Nebula High and told her that she needed to learn how to control her powers, for her safety and the safety of everyone around her. And some mention about not nearly shocking to death anyone she kisses again.

Her minor power will need to be tweaked a bit or clarified.

So she gets two powers in one (Hyper intelligence and Immunity to Electricity) with a limitation of having to charge up via outside electricity sources?

We're hesitant on that one, just because it involves two powers fo0r the price of one, despite the limitation.  I'd be willing to allow it with the understanding that while her intelligence can go up past human capacity, it cannot go up anywhere close to the levels of someone who takes Hyper Intelligence as their Major Power and still not quite on par with someone who takes Hyper Intelligence as their Minor Power.  Say Human capability for intelligence is on a scale of 1-10.  With the Major Power, you could get an 18 to 20.  With a Minor Power you could get 14 or so.  With what you're proposing, you could get a solid 12.

Does that make sense?

If you're ok with that, you are approved.

POWERS: Nate has the power to manipulate the wind although it is very much in accordance to his emotional state, his lack of control also goes as far as making things happen by accident, he has been know to accidentlly rip a woman's clothing off by sneezing...... also don't feed him curry he also seems to have no weight to his body, although he will stay grounded if he wishes he is able to just let the wind carry him off if he wanted it too.

The Appearance

EYE COLOR: ice blue

HAIR COLOR: Black

HEIGHT: 6ft

WEIGHT: N/A

BODY TYPE: slim but toned

APPEARANCE: Nate dresses in surfer style fashion, wearing t-shirts with fun or catchy pictures or logo's, three quarter length shorts and sandals

Beyond the Image

LIKES: Girls, books, music and birds

DISLIKES: agressiv people, being inside, loud noises

TALENTS: due to his powers over wind he has been able to master whistling like every kind of bird that when he does, they whistle back as if in conversation although he doesn't understand them.

CHARACTER TRAITS: totally go with the flow

PERSONALITY: Relaxed and happy go lucky, Nate is a true child of nature, he doesn't like to cause harm to any living creature, especially those who have an affinity to the sky however if angered he becomes as deadly as the force he controls and his anger can be compared to a super storm.

History: Nate was born and raised in an orphanage in England, knowing nothing of his father or mother, only that a young girl of barely sixteen one day turned up to give birth and was gone three days later, leaving her son behind.

As a boy, Nate was very angry, he picked fights with children he knew were bigger then him and sometimes he let them beat him, not that he needed to let them at the time. it wasn't until he was fifteen that he gained his powers. A school trip to a Mueseam of Celtic History in England had him come across a strange stone that not even historians could tell the nature of. Within the stone resided a spirit of the wind from Ancient times, in exchange for freeing it, the spirit blessed Nate with his powers.

One month later agents of Nebula high school came for him, however believing they were trying to kill him, Nate ran and spent the next two years on the run until he was captured, explaining his situation he eventually agreed to there offer to join the school.

Approved.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

NAME: Brittany Mycroft

NOM DE GUERRE: Mystrix

PLAYER: AndyZ

AGE: 17

GENDER: Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Lesbian

POSITION/GRADE: Junior

ORIGIN: Seventh daughter of a seventh daughter

RESIDENCE: Tennessee

PARENTS AND RELATIVES OF NOTE: Her family is completely mundane and all ties to them have been severed for their protection.

POWERS: Right now, her magical powers are mostly raw and untrained.  She's learned to manipulate various types of energy to some degree (for example, bending light into obviously fake holograms or flying) and minor shapeshifting abilities, but anything else she manages so far has virtually no staying power.  Her only attempt at permanent effects was to make her hair golden blonde, which obviously didn't quite take.

It all comes at a price, however, especially when she tries to do something she's never done before.  One time she had to try to heal someone, and did so by turning them into a lizard for an hour.  Even though her friend doesn't remember, she still feels a little guilty about it.  She can't ever seem to use a technological device without it exploding when she tries to improvise a spell or gets upset, but she's managed with practice to duplicate the effects of a cell phone with a spell.  Moving things with magic, even herself to fly, creates a sharp breeze that can be quite noticeable indoors.

One thing she really wants to learn is to control the body's electrical sensors to a degree where she can affect people directly (for example, to knock someone out or induce an orgasm without external effects) but that's going to take practice.

((This may not perfectly fit with the one major, one minor.  I see her as learning more as time goes on and not having a lot of talents at first.  Technically, she's only taking one power of magical aptitude, but that may be too much for what you're thinking.  Please let me know.))

Beyond the Image

LIKES: Fast cars, new clothes, making friends, ice cream (casting gives her a pretty fast metabolism), learning new things

DISLIKES: Bullies, people making fun of her hair, people getting angry at her when she messes up a spell or a gizmo explodes or gets fried in her general vicinity, having children

TALENTS: Besides her magic, she's very intelligent and well-read.  She also has a knack for driving, and for whatever reason, vehicles never seem to go awry while she's the one driving.

CHARACTER TRAITS: Optimistic, spontaneous, but somewhat competitive and driven when she gets focused on something

PERSONALITY: Usually pretty bubbly and outgoing when things are going well, but she can get angry and frustrated just as quickly

History

When the seventh child of a family has seven children, the result tends to create an influx of magic, though such effects are rarely seen in a world where few people have more than two or three children.  For the seventh of a seventh to have seven children results only in a monster, a creature with enough magical power to masquerade as human and sew chaos across the nine planes.  Many who know such dark tales choose never to risk having children at all.

Brittany, like other sevenths of sevenths, didn't manifest her powers until her seventeenth birthday.  By then, however, agents of the supernatural had taken steps to fake her death and erase her records, ensuring that her true name would not be easily revealed to the wrong people.  By the time her powers finally manifested, she'd chosen the name Mystrix for herself.

She still misses her family, but trying to look in on them and find out what they're doing has only been more painful.  Trying to log into Facebook and check on them only caused the computer to wail in sorrow and burst into salty clouds of condensed tears.  She's had a few months since, and everything else about her life has mostly helped her get over it.  Mostly.

At least she was lucky enough to get a summertime birthday, so that she didn't have to get pulled out of school and have to repeat the year.  However, that does mean that she's a bit further ahead than she should be as a junior in her supernatural training.  Ah well, she's a smart girl, so she'll hopefully be able to keep up and handle everything.

Because her powers are so potentially versatile, we're going to ask that you downplay the level of power behind them to balance things out.  ie, if others with a Major power are at a power level of 10, your spells would (currently) be at a 5 or a 6.

If you understand and accept this, you are approved.

Sister - Sarah Harrison, born 1988, Medical Student. Working to become a Pediatric surgeon. Caring, studious and dependable.

POWERS:
Major: Telekinesis
John Paul possesses the capability to transfer kinetic energy between objects. Testing to date has shown that the size of the objects is no real barrier, rather that his ability is limited by the magnitude of energy he can safely transfer per unit time. Capable of exceeding this safety limit to an unknown maximum, such proves to be extremely dangerous for John Paul. Following the incident in August '10 (See Case File entry ZG-37142:JPH.20100812.3), it was determined that John Paul is capable of transferring up to a specific amount of energy with no detrimental side effects beyond eventual exhaustion. When exceeding this quantity, there is an exponential relationship between the magnitude of excess energy and the energy released into John Paul's body. In layman's terms, the excess kinetic energy is transferred to the molecules of his body, resulting in a thermal and luminosity increase. While the latter is not inherently dangerous, the former effect creates a pyrexia-like condition within the body and if the energy release is significant or lasting, may lead to hyperpyrexia and in the most extreme of hypothetic cases, total internal combustion.

Minor: Levitation
John Paul has an instinctual, subconscious ability to tap kinetic energy from the Earth to levitate and fly. Theoretically, he could slow the rotation of the Earth and eventually stop it, but such would require him to accelerate himself to approximately six-hundred thousand times the speed of light while maintaining proximity to the planet for the duration of the process. There is no safe method currently available to test the upper limits of the load he can carry while levitating, or the top speed he can accelerate to, although it appears to be limited in the same way as his more active, conscious energy use.

We're having a tough time understanding exactly what his power does.  Could you please clarify?  Wording that he could potentially stop the Earth's rotation makes us a little leery though.  No one is supposed to have that high levels of power.

That's fair.  I had a different idea anyway.  For the record, I'm more than willing to discuss if the power needs to be tweaked, because despite the limits it's obnoxiously versatile.  I'm trying to figure out how to balance it between being an ability with serious potential implications and not breaking the game.  So with apologies to Minister Faust,

NAME: Tommy Nakamura

NOM DE GUERRE: Callout

PLAYER: Jefepato

AGE: 17

GENDER: Male

SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Straight

POSITION/GRADE: Junior

ORIGIN: Son of Tenjin, a deified scholar/poet of Japan

RESIDENCE: Los Angeles, CA, USA

PARENTS AND RELATIVES OF NOTE: Tommy's mother is Alison Nakamura, an accomplished software engineer of Irish and French descent.  His father, Hideyoshi Nakamura, is of course really an incarnation of the god Tenjin; he is often away on "business trips" (his family knows what's up, few others do), but is a distinguished professor of history at UCLA.

POWERS: Major power: Logogenesis -- Tommy can literally speak objects into existence.  (He can't directly affect existing objects, and speaking things that aren't physical objects is meaningless.)  It's generally easier if the objects he wants are relatively simple, not too large, and meant to appear nearby, although the actual limits are still unknown as he practices.  Speaking longer and more precise phrases helps too.  He doesn't control the objects he created (unless he's actually holding them or something), although they can be created already in motion.  Broadly speaking, Tommy needs to understand the object he's making, although not perfectly -- he could create a copy of a book he's read several times and knows well without remembering the text verbatim, for example.  He doesn't have to actually know how to create an object in whatever the normal way is, though (he can create a sword without knowing blacksmithing)

Tommy's pronunciation and enunciation needn't be perfect, but they do need to be close enough, and he can't use his power if he can't speak.  He doesn't need to speak loudly, and a sore throat isn't likely to stop him, but sufficient damage to his throat (or just holding his mouth shut) might.  He needn't be perfectly specific -- if he says "bunch of grapes" getting the type of grapes he wanted isn't usually a problem -- but he can't be actively deceptive.  Summoning a "cane" might get him his option of styles but it won't be a sword-cane.  Any language works (and Tommy can't resist abusing the hell out of this), even if it's a dead language or unusual dialect, but it has to be a real language.  Constructed languages are fine, but Tommy can't just invent words on his own and never explain them to people.  He has no idea if actually constructing a language with its own full vocabulary would work.

Normally, created objects are temporary -- not temporary enough to disappear mid-use unless Tommy is doing something pretty extreme, but they don't last long after he's done with them.  (That said, Tommy can't intentionally end his own items by fiat -- if someone uses his own creation against him, he can't hasten its time limit.)  He's sort of getting the hang of knowing about how long they'll last, but it's a slow process since he doesn't have any special ability to sense that; he has to go by his notion of how "well" he invoked his power, which is kind of weird and he hasn't been able to explain it to anyone else.  He can, however, create permanent objects, although it takes enough time to rarely be useful in a crisis; a permanent object that's finished is truly "real" and not part of Tommy's power any longer, meaning it's not really distinguishable from any natural object unless it's somehow odd in itself.  Most forms of making money off this would be probably illegal and definitely unethical (Tommy's taken up sculpting, but making gold in any serious quantity is bad news).

Creating living creatures is basically not a thing.  It's not that Tommy's power can't theoretically do it, but he can't understand anything more complicated than an amoeba well enough to create it.  He could create a steak, but grasping an actual cow's brain is beyond anything he can realistically manage.  Creating a sapient being is right out -- to understand a soul he'd have to be a god.  In any case, the results of screwing up could be horrific and also get his ass kicked, so he would never try.

Minor power: Divine toughness.  Tommy is significantly harder to hurt than a normal person, in a way that's oddly biased toward protecting his life (a legacy of his father's immortality).  It doesn't protect him from papercuts at all and punches only a bit, but his bones are quite hard to break and his vital organs are outrageously tough.  It might not be possible to actually kill him without supernatural means, but he wouldn't be eager to find out if he actually understood fully how this power works.

The Appearance

EYE COLOR: Brown

HAIR COLOR: Black

HEIGHT: 5'11

WEIGHT: 178 lbs.

BODY TYPE: Athletic, reasonably muscular

APPEARANCE: Tommy is a handsome young man, dark-haired and dark-eyed, with mixed Caucasian and Asian features.  He's obviously in excellent shape and doesn't mind dressing to show it off, although he tries to keep it reasonably casual because he assumes people will rightly think him an ass if he flaunts his family's wealth too much.  He wears his hair short, and styled so as to look effortlessly nice.  He's usually smiling, and moves with an easy, confident stride.

Beyond the Image

LIKES: keeping in shape, tennis, literature, girls

DISLIKES: idiots, horror movies, bullies, people who can't have a bit of common decency

TALENTS: go, languages (speaks English, Japanese, Spanish, Mandarin and Hindi fluently, and a serious smattering of others for obvious reasons), athletics, pretty much everything in school, reasonably strong-willed

CHARACTER TRAITS: driven, kind, loyal, unsure

PERSONALITY: Tommy is a fairly nice young man who's a bit too used to his life being easy.  He tries not to act like that, because frankly people thinking he's being a jerk about having it easy is something he can't stand (even when they're right), and he works hard at what he does for exactly that reason.  He's loyal to his friends and generally is mostly pretty confident and acts like it, and certainly has no fear of things like public speaking.  One thing that really bothers him, though, is that although he enjoys his classes at Nebula High, he really isn't sure that superheroing is even the best use of his powers -- and he honestly doesn't know if he's being rational or just afraid that he's going to get himself killed.

Tommy was born in LA to the aforementioned parents, and grew up a happy child -- his family certainly didn't lack for much, even if his father couldn't always be around.  He probably had his powers from birth, although it wasn't obvious until he could say the names of objects.  His parents raised him multilingual once he began speaking, which was quite easy for obvious reasons.

Tommy is smart -- not superhumanly smart, but pretty damn smart by any reasonable measure -- but more to the point he's just plain good at school.  Although he didn't hit a lot of nerd stereotypes he still occasionally got pushed around for being a "teacher's pet," but he was generally tough enough to hold his own.  Most of the time.  He still isn't fond of bullies.

It's hard to say why he decided to learn to be a superhero.  Maybe it's just that he felt like someone besides him should benefit from his powers.  His parents are supportive, if somewhat worried; his father never was much of a warrior.  The teachers mostly like him, although explaining why his powers aren't that useful for cheating tends to take a while.  Gym and combat classes have whipped him into shape in a big way, and he complies because having so many classmates who are physically superior is kind of embarrassing.  He tries to be vague about the source of his powers, because it'd just sound like he's bragging.

If we need to limit the power down the road for the sake of a hindsight balance issue, you're ok with this?

If so, you are approved.

Because her powers are so potentially versatile, we're going to ask that you downplay the level of power behind them to balance things out.  ie, if others with a Major power are at a power level of 10, your spells would (currently) be at a 5 or a 6.

If you understand and accept this, you are approved.

Sounds good to me, although the exact amount will have to be figured out in-game.  I expect most things she does to have some sort of drawback, especially if she's trying it out for the first time.  As the game goes on, please feel free to PM letting me know if things aren't working.

Some of the stuff I've come up with so far for drawbacks will be that light phantasms will be obvious illusions that look like holograms, invisibility will make shadows dance and go crazy, telekinesis will make breezes and so on.

I expect her to learn and get better as time goes on unless that'd be a bad idea.
It's all good, and it's all in fun.  Now get in the pit and try to love someone.

NAME:  Connor Marks

NOM DE GUERRE: Planck

PLAYER:  Ciosa

AGE:  16

GENDER:  Male

SEXUAL ORIENTATION:  Straightish.  He's a sixteen year old male.  If it feels good, he'll probably suck it up and got to therapy.

POSITION/GRADE: Student, Sophomore

ORIGIN: Natural Mutation – Connor was born obnoxiously smart.

RESIDENCE: Inner City Baltimore, Maryland

PARENTS AND RELATIVES OF NOTE:  Mother died during a home invasion when Connor was six. His father was physically and sexually abusive, His father was also a police officer, and Connor has little love of authority figures.

POWERS:  Powers:  Meta-Intelligence.  Connor isn't just smart, he's super smart.  Given access to appropriate resources and time, he could build just about anything – but given his psychological profile and reputation for causing trouble, his access to resources has been sharply limited.  (See personality, below)  Minor Power:  Mathematical prodigy.  Connor can complete nearly any mathematical equation in his head, instantly, including PH.D level mathematics.

The Appearance

EYE COLOR:  pale blue

HAIR COLOR:  brown

HEIGHT:  140

WEIGHT:   5'8

BODY TYPE:  Lean athleticism.

APPEARANCE:  Tattooed, usually shabbily dressed, prefers to put his hood up on his hoodie whenever possible.  A slimmly shaved beard, and small ear gauges.

Beyond the Image

LIKES:  Science.  Math.  Sticking it to the man.  Snappy comebacks.  People who actually value intelligence.  The people on the fringe.  Intellectual challenges.

DISLIKES:  Bullies.  Authority figures.  Popularity.  Mandatory anything.  Nebula High.

TALENTS:  antisocial behavior, building stuff, math and sciences, getting beaten up.

CHARACTER TRAITS: Super genius, long term planner, nigh endless energy

PERSONALITY:  From the psychological profile of Zhang Yue Zhilan:
“Connor is a very worrisome young man. It has taken me a considerable amount of time to build any kind of bond of trust, and I would describe that bond as extremely fragile.  I am doing everything in my power to establish any kind of relationship to minimize his sense of isolation, but I suspect that the routine bullying he experiences at Nebula is countermanding my efforts.”
“Connor shows severe  signs of antisocial behavior.  He has commented that he 'hates people,' and I have telepathically observed multipe elaborate revenge fantasies against those he views as his tormentors, including acts of humiliation, degradation, and sexual acts.  I am entirely convinced that the only thing which prevents him from acting on these fantasies is his extreme hatred for his own father, who physically and sexually abused him very early in his development cycle.  In his mind, executing his revenge fantasies others is tantamount to becoming his father. “

“I have mandated continuing counseling sessions, but I must admit I am extremely frustrated.  Connor possesses an extraordinary degree of self-awareness, and nearly every attempt I have made to use my telepathy to get closer to him has backfired.  Despite this, I do not believe Connor to be a lost cause.  His antisocial behavior is reinforced by his sense of helplessness and victimization, not out of true sociopathy or psychopathy.  His unwillingness to hurt or abuse others stems from his intense childhood traumas.  While Connor is fearless in the face of bullying, he also seems unable to take measures to avoid it.  I suspect there is an element of masochism at work, with a shattered self-esteem that believes he deserves punishment.  He actively antagonizes those who are bigger and stronger than him, and often continues to provacate them long after he has no more ability to physical resist them.

“In order to ensure Connor's safety, and the school's safety, I am suggesting the following measures be taken.  Connor should not be allowed to participate in any field trips outside of the dimensional pocket.  His access to resources in the scientific labs should be sharply regulated.  He should continue to have to attend mandatory counseling sessions until such time as his behavior has shown marked improvement.”

“Be advised:  If Connor ever shows strong signs of conformity, and this change is marked or radical from his normal behavior, I strongly advise the staff to take precautionary measures and consider moving him to a more secure facility, possibly for detainment.  In his psychological paradigm, this behavior would be a strong indicator of potentially violent behavior, and the result of a psychotic break from what I currently consider to be his strongest psychological anchors.  This may seem paradoxical, but I am referring only to a radical behavioral change in a short period of time.”

History :
When Connor was six, an unknown gunman killed his mother in a home invasion.  Connor didn't witness her death, but he did overhear it.  His father, a police officer, suffered a slow slide into violently abusive behavior.  At seven, Connor elected for a life on the streets of Baltimore overliving with his father, a decision that most likely saved his life.

By nine, Connor was deeply enmeshed in a West Baltimore street gang, dealing hard narcotics to the cities rampant drug users.  His promotions were continually stymied by his caucasian ethnicity.  He continually managed to advance by virtue of his intelligence, but ultimately his progression was halted by hostilities arising from Connor's perfection of a new, highly addictive drug he was able to manufacture using corn starch and coffee beans, and a territory war ensued.

During the course of the infighting, Connor was shot and nearly killed.  In his possessions, the police found a small arsenal of personal weaponry systems, including what appeared to be an operating force field built out of a Nintendo DS and a microwave from the 1970s.  They promptly contacted the DSA, and a background search on the boy's father suggested he'd become a victim to a vigilante killing.  His police cruiser had exploded upon ignition.  No evidence traced to Connor, though he has admitted in private therapy that he doesn't know if he did.  Telepathic inquiry suggests the period of time is repressed in his memory.

After he was declared an orphan, he was made a ward of the state and sent to Nebula.

Sandbox just means that there's no overarching plot being run by GMs.  It's still freeform but you can do whatever and just have fun with it, rather than a game where everyone is on a particular quest.

She's an electric manipulator.... Immunity to the element you can control is usually just an assumed secondary power. I just have it as, rather than being outright immune, it's used to power her intellect, with the drawback that doing so is potentially dangerous and could leave her with blank spots in her memory.

It would be a bit silly if she weren't immune to electricity, because her origin story would have killed her and she would risk zapping herself to death whenever she uses her electrical aura.

I had hoped the limitation would have been good enough. Without being charged up she's smart, but just as smart as anyone in the school without super intellect. However, it requires more and more electricity to make her smarter. Maybe she could reach 12 with an average charge, but anything higher and she doesn't remember anything that happened?

Just so we're on the same page here... are you asking for her to be able to get as smart as those who took Hyper Intelligence as their main power?  I don't want to assume anything, so can you please clarify as to exactly what you want for her?

I updated my sheet, do I need to add or change anything else?
I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death. What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch and you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities. You become a little baby, you go back into the womb, spend your last nine months floating... and you finish off as an orgasm.

No, not that smart. Just to the level of others who have hyper-intelligence as a minor power, but only after she's been charged up. And even then she risks overclocking her brain. Going back to the scale, let's say her base intelligence is an 8. With enough electricity, she can reach 11 or 12. Her absolute maximum is 14, but getting that high risks damaging her brain (which is where the loss of control and memory loss come in), and any higher would be lethal.

Tess wouldn't be able to take something like a direct lightning strike and walk away unharmed, that's in the range of 1 megavolt. Going back to the scales, let's say that 12 volts (a car battery) would get her to 9. Multiply that by 10 as volts for every rank that it would increase her intelligence. So it would take 12,000 volts to get her to a 12 according to the intelligence scale, and 1.2 megavolts to get her to a 14. Any higher than that would be permanent brain damage.

For time scale, let's say the "charge" increases similarly. Starting with 6 seconds, each rank charged increases the factor of time by 5, so rank 10 would be for 30 seconds per charge, rank 11 would be 2.5 minutes, rank 12 would be 12.5 minutes, rank 13 would be about an hour, and rank 14 would be about 5 hours. The two longest durations are also the most dangerous for her, because she's not going to be fully aware of herself at this time.

Sorry, I'm very bad at explaining things >.<'

We also need to keep in mind.. this game isn't focused solely on powers or levels of said powers. Its about learning to attend high school, with all the high school drama and crap you deal with normally, while adding on super powers which may be out of control or going off at inopportune times.

You also need to keep in mind that no one student has FULL control of their powers. It is why you are all at Nebula High, to learn control or better control of them.
