I was in a game a couple years back around the time I first started that had a small town suddenly get sucked into a world where magic and fantasy races/creatures ruled.  Modern day technology such as cellphones, computers, and the like weren't operational because there were no cell towers or satellites or any of that jazz to send signals to or from their original sources to the town and vice versa given they were in a whole other plane of existence.  Power, water, and stuff like that could potentially work if the mass teleportation that happened took what would be required for these things to work, but they might need to be fixed or simply turned on again.  I don't have it in me to run this game since I'm already running two, or trying to run two anyway, but someone else could gladly take the reigns on this one and have fun with it I'm sure.  I'd play regardless most likely.  The last time the whole teleportation of the town was explained, there was a magic sword that had been searching for a new owner and had gathered quite a bit of magic over the centuries since last it had been held by one it had accepted, and using its power, accidentally snatched not just the person it was after but the whole town as well.  While it was a good idea for that particular story, I think something else might be needed this time around.  Maybe a lab accident of some sort or maybe a spell gone wrong on the fantasy side of things.  Regardless of the reason, I'm all for magical artifacts and stuff like that, I'd just prefer something fresh is all lol.

Sorry, not my game to run so I'll shut up now.  I've talked about the town itself but there would be other problems as well to consider.  Mainly not everyone speaks English, or Common as it's normally called in other worlds.  Communication would be key to any hope of survival as well.  Basically think of this as a Sims City game of sorts where every kind of problem you could possibly think of and a few you probably couldn't and throw in a fantasy heavy world just to make things harder and you'd have the right idea for this lol.  Joking aside, it does oddly enough amount to this now that I think about it.  Money, trade in general, interactions with foreign powers, defending against the local wildlife and monsters, rogue wizards, demonic entities, magical curses, and exotic diseases; all this and more would have to be taken into consideration.  I'd be happy to Co-GM but I'd let someone else take the lead as I said before.  Anyway, we'd need a good equal ratio of fantasy creatures and the like as well as people to populate the town as well.  The people in town would need to be realistic, every day people but that doesn't mean you can't learn how to use magic and all that though, just be realistic about your growth in such areas is all once things start to get underway of course.

At any rate, I hope this draws in a good crowd and that this lasts longer than the one that was run by a friend of mine on here due to several people just disappearing due to either RL which we were at least told about, and one that was running half the important characters just about so when she disappeared, any chance of getting the game moving further went with her.  So I will put in at least one rule here.  Don't make anymore than two characters.  Beyond that, I'll let the hopeful GM take care of the rest and just help out as needed.

The fantasy world can be anything already established or one created just for this since given the setting and premise, a modern town could wind up anywhere really when pulled off of one plane and dropped in another.  :D  I would ask that if we do use a pre-established world that you know what it is you're doing is all and know your preferred world of choice.  Personally if I was running this I'd go for the Forgotten Realms, specifically Toril on the continent of Faerun but that's just me lol.

Ok ok sorry, I'll stop rambling now, promise.  :P

Town Registry Information

At the beginning, once things start to settle it's likely we'll want a valid identification of everyone in town already and those coming to visit us.  (Once we actually settle on a town name and stuff the history can be better filled out but for now just do the best you can.)

Basic Attributes

* Given Name: (Full name.  First, middle, end.)

* Nicknames:

* Gender:

* Appearance:
- Age: (MUST be at least 18 or the maturity age of whatever race you are wanting to be.  Each one is different, like for example a light elf is considered mature at 100 if I remember right or the equivalent of 18 by human standards.  If unknown take an educated guess.  :P)
- Height:
- Weight:
- Hair Color/Style:
- Eye Color:
- Makeup:
- Clothing:
- Jewelry:

* Race:

* Physical Abilities/Limitations: (This goes in line with your Race.  Even humans have a few qualities about them that make them unique, but otherwise, if it's a well known race please include everything that they can or can't do/weak against or at least a link to where it can be found.  You can also include what you're good at, be it repairing things, translation work, etc.  No one is good at everything though, no matter what they are.  :P)

Personality;  (Do not put a bunch of personality traits in a list like sentence.  Explain why they are the way they are please.  A single paragraph of five or more sentences should be enough.  More is always better.)

Background;  (Two paragraphs, five sentences a piece.  No less and actually separate your paragraphs please.  :P  More is always welcome though.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socioeconomic Class/Standing

* Class:

* Religion:

* Place of Birth:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inventory;  (Anything you'd carry with you on a regular basis.  Cellphones and stuff might not work as intended but they can still be used for parts if nothing else.)

* Weapons: (For humans it'd be more common, non magical items for the most part unless your history allows such things early on, but again just be realistic if you please.  :P)

* Misc;  (Anything that you have sentimental value for or hold close to you for whatever reason.  Or just random bits of junk, whatever works.)

I'd like to GM this, it reminds me of a book series where the island of Nantucket gets thrown back 3.000 years, except this one has magic. It might be a challenge because of my schedule but I'd gladly do my best if no one else feels like stepping up.

Vergil1989

As I said I can help Co-GM so you wouldn't be alone regardless but yeah, if no one else does take the GM spot it's yours to have Jecter.  Thanks for the interest and the offer to run this whole affair.  :D  I'm kind of reminded of Terra Nova personally except they willingly went back in time and started a new life for themselves back in Earth's prehistoric past.  Eh anyway, let's hope we get enough people to make this worth the effort lol.

Sounds like a fun game :) What would be the ruleing on magic for a Goth girl that does the whole Pagan/witch spellbook stuff, would the spells she starts doing suddenly start working?

Belisuavious

I would say it depends on the circumstances. I would think that she might be able to do one or two of the more minor spells from her spell book, but if she tried something too big too early it would backfire in some way right near the start of the transportation. But later on if she practiced she would be able to do more and more complex stuff.

stargirl

Hi, I would like to play that. But I think I would like to play a denizen of the fantasy world who meet the "fantastic" city that had suddenly came from nowhere.

Vergil1989

Jecter is too lenient if you ask me lol.  Doing spells that you aren't prepared for would likely do more than backfire.  In some settings, surpassing your limits can easily kill you since magic energy needed to fuel your craft has to come from within yourself.  But that's just my two cents lol.

And hey Stargirl, welcome aboard.  I think we can work you in as a local, sure.  Hopefully we're get a couple more people to fill out the ranks a bit then Jecter and I can get a character sheet going and all that jazz.

What category game is this going in?

The first idea that comes to mind is a town mayor who is a mason. masonic rituals actually work suddenly could be very intersting.

Note me as interested.

Vergil1989

Jecter would have the final say here but I'd say NC Exotic although I wouldn't anticipate a lot of rape or anything like that happening though, not for a good long while at least.  Still, forging my ignorance but I have no idea what a mason is as you've used the term Atlas.  It still sounds good though lol.

I'm curious about how big should be this Town. Could it even be a city? At that book series, it was actually a full island and so they were more like autonomous. Including power generation and water system.

Anyone knows "Those Who Hunt Elves"?

Vergil1989

The last town the last group did had most of a local power plant ten miles away, right on the edge of the teleportation spell's range.  So a fairly large town or even a small city would be quite possible I'm sure.  And no I don't know that book you mentioned Stargirl.

I'd be interested in playing as a sort of genre-savvy nerd who dives head first into figuring out what this new place is, thankful to be doing away with the boring humdrum of his old life.

Liking the general plot idea so far.  However...one thing that has not been elaborated on is the sexual content.  What could players expect in that department?

Part of the fun is figuring things out.  :-) So I won't have him do that too quickly.

Well that would depend on the GM and since Jecter has already said that if someone else wanted to step forward, they could take over, but as for what I'd say, romance and the like is very possible, so I'd so expect the usual fanfare of cross species copulation lol.  Seriously though, I'd personally rather not see this become a sex fest but neither would I outright not allow it either if that helps.  This would be likely put under NC Exotic just to cover most areas of what people here are into but again I wouldn't expect noncon for a while.  Sorry if that wasn't exactly what you were after for an answer, just doing the best I can without outright stepping over my limits since I ain't the one technically calling the shots....at least I'd rather not be anyway.

I think this would go under the NC Exotic category. Doesn't mean there has to be rape and such though if this is a small city then there will be some sick fucks who take the teleportation as an excuse to do whatever they want, but I'm not going to disallow it either. As for the sexual content, I agree with Vergil, I don't want a sex fest to be the sole focus of this RP, I have a couple ideas about where I want it to go. However, I'm not going to discourage it either since sex happens to be a lot of fun.

Vergil1989

Cool beans I say.  :D  At any rate, I agree with Jecter on the sicko part of what was brought up but again as he said let's not let that be the focus either.  Chaos would ensue regardless if we have such people running about so getting law and order back would be one of the first things that needed to be done.  That's another thing that comes to mind.  The general rule regarding fantasy worlds, especially where the strength of one's arm can determine if you make your own rules and whatnot, is that criminals met on the road are often dealt with on the road if the need arises and said hero or heroine decides to mete out their personal brand of justice of course.  Carrying an unruly prisoner several to a couple hundred miles is often too much for some or they have personal vendettas against such people, regardless of the reason you can be sure such behavior wouldn't be welcome in a town like one we plan to drop in a fantasy world, am I right?

I think it would be fun to play a boring 'square' who slowly loosens up and then finally fully embraces the new world.

Counting myself and Jecter, we have eight people total already.  Personally I'd like ten but eight is a good number, especially for starting a game like this.  At any rate, hopefully we'll get a character sheet going tomorrow between the two of us and see where things go from there.  Until then, keep on looking here for updates as things get sorted out and all that junk.  :P  I'm just leaving this here though for you to consider Jecter buddy and we can work on it as you like.  Anyway, here goes, a header for every post we put up.

Name;  (Self explanatory I hope lol.)
Time;  (Probably be a time system in place for the actual RP so we aren't confused about what day or night it is, etc.)
Location;  (Again, so we're not confused about where everyone is.)
Tagged;  (Who you're with at the time of your post.)

I actually had someone ask me what Tagged meant on an RP thread not so long ago so you'll have to forgive me for explaining everything like that if you took it as rude or something since it wasn't meant to be read as such.  Anyway, see ya around.

Faerunian frolics are my kind of fangirl fun.

Okay, alliteration aside, it would be interesting to play an occupant of this fantasy world. A surveyor of this town, perhaps, in the pocket of a greater power? A predatory evil searching for easy mortal pockets and/or souls? I'm totes up for it if this progresses.  ;D

You are an astute alliterater!  :D And if you play your cards right, you might just find my character idea a semi-easy 'mark' for soul-stealing. Though, I won't say more 'til we have a character sheet to fill out, at which point, everything will become clear.

The last time this group game was put together there weren't any overly evil characters running about that I remember anyway.  We did have a couple demon sisters but they were what I'd call chaotic good if not chaotic neutral if that makes any sense.  I only bring this up since I'm just a little nervous about said soul stealer being too evil to fit but I'd be willing to give it a go if Jecter is.  At any rate, I'll send a skeleton character sheet to him later today and hopefully it'll be up before the day is done.  To everyone else that signed up, I'm glad to have you here guys and gals and I wish you luck.

Wouldn't that put too much emphasis on  sex, though? Anywho, just my two cents. Time to work on a character sheet!

Character Sheet

* Given Name: Erik Van Buren

* Nicknames: Erik, E

* Gender: Male

* Appearance:
- Age: 24
- Height: 5'10
- Weight: 220 lbs
- Hair Color/Style: Blond, short, combed back.
- Eye Color: Green
- Makeup: N/A
- Clothing: Prefers light clothing in dark colors. Typically wears a padded, genuine leather jacket, or biker armor,  gloves, boots,  and a helmet when riding.
- Jewelry: N/A

* Race: Human

* Physical Abilities/Limitations: Though born with a sharp mind, he was, at least as a child, fairly frail; he does still have a weakened immune system because of a condition of his, although his strength, constitution, and even reflexes are marginally above the normal levels of a man of his age. This has come at the expense of lots of time training, which came at the expense of having friends or relationships of any sort.

Good at riding motorcycles, but can't drive a car (and this skill will only be applicable for as long as their's fuel and his bike stays in good shape). Knows how to maintain a motorcycle, but can't do more than the most modest of repairs. Knows how to handle himself in a fight. Well learned in many sciences.

He also knows how to cook; living alone, that's the only way he can really get his hands on a good meal. It is also how he pays the bills, working at a diner as a chef.

Personality; Born frail and with Diabetes, for which he must take insulin, Erik used to get pushed around a lot in school. This has, at its core, left him with a certain resentment towards many people, as he could only rarely ever get assistance in the matter, and an extreme prejudice towards people that throw their weight around (though ironically, he can, himself, become this very same type of person when confronted with a bully).

Between middle school and high school, he spent a lot of time bulking himself up. Plus, a major growth spurt put him into the same weight category as the people that used to push him around.  While they were content to leave a child who could defend himself alone, Erik often times found himself stepping in and giving the bullies a thrashing when they were picking on weaker individuals. Consequently, Erik can be exceedingly protective over the weak and helpless, and even more so towards anyone he might actually befriend.

He got into motorcycles when he was 16, and his uncle, a biker, started teaching him how to ride. The motorcycle he currently rides, a cherry red Dyna Wideglide, was a gift for his eighteenth birthday from his uncle.

He is fiercely independent, most likely as a result of the fact that he's always been a lone wolf.  He follows no ones rules but his own, because he finds the rules of others typically only exist to be exploited by those in power.

His medical condition has resulted in his interest in biology and medicine, and consequently, he knows quite a bit more than what he needs to know to take care of himself. He may step in, at times, and use this basic medical knowledge to help others, but typically, he refrains, not wanting to get involved.

If he had an alignment, it would be True Neutral, with leanings towards Chaotic and Good.

After the switch to the new world, Erik will develop a high amount of recklessness, as a result of the fact that his days will be heavily numbered, barring the discovery of some sort of magical cure.

Background;  The son of an abusive drunkard of a man, and a woman who cared too much and too deeply for lies to ever try and improve her lot, their are few who would be surprised that Erik grew up to be a rather warped and bitter person.  Even to this day, he bears physical scars acquired during his childhood, a time of innocence lost, dread, and horror. But, he does not spend much time recalling those days; he tells many people that he's partially amnesiac, as an excuse to never discuss his childhood. He focuses, instead, on the here and now, for he is also denied a future due to health complications. It is likely that his strong sense of justice and despising of bullies comes from the abuse he's dealt with; not only at the hands of the one whom was supposed to protect him, but from his peers as well.

He became an emancipated teen when he was 16, got himself set up in a cheap, run down apartment, and spent the rest of his high school years working part time and odd jobs around the town.  He managed to do well, and also got to get closer to his uncle during this time; a man who would eventually help him, even if only indirectly, to become something a bit better than  his old man. Whether it was giving some assistance at work (his uncle being a mechanic) for some cash under the table, or learning how to ride a motorcycle (and all the care-free trips they took on their bikes), he found something cathartic, and even learned, from some of his uncles biker buddies, how to just let go.

Inventory;  Cell phone, seven inch folding stainless steel pocket knife, wallet with credit and debit card, cash and IDs, a medic alert bracelet, biking gear mentioned above, a four ounce hip flask (which he keeps filled with diet coke, given that his medical condition can be greatly compromised by alcohol), All Purpose First Aid Kit, 33 pc - Mini, fuel reserve can (2 gallons, kept in his garage, but could be jury-rigged and mounted to the back of his bike)

* Weapons: seven inch folding stainless steel pocket knife, aluminum baseball bat.

* Misc;  A PS2 and a bunch of games for it, horror movie dvd collection,  large music cd collection (mostly rock, metal, grunge, and lots of Industrial and its subgenres), insulin pump, continuous glucose monitor, spare batteries for both, insulin pump supplies, several vials of insulin (enough to last him six weeks).

Minor edit;  If you missed it once before, and unless Jecter says otherwise whenever he's able to get posts up with his busy schedule at the moment making it a bit hard, I'd allow one townie and one fantasy character a person if they want to go that route of course.  Beyond that enjoy yourselves!

Got everything up but background, though I think one could easily piece it all together from the other bits. I will add the background in later.

You've done exactly what I was hoping for Hanged.  And the background is cool as is for now so don't worry too much about it until Jecter and me get together and agree on a place.  I do want to clarify one thing though guys and gals.  Class can be more than your economic standing.  Class in most cases is like rogue, fighter, mage, etc so if you want to include that as well, go for it even if you are a human.  I'd consider class in that case to be what you'd want to work towards rather than what you are already if that makes sense.  Anyway, I'll get to work on a character sheet or two as well here soon probably.

Character Application
* Given Name: Deitrich James Sampson

* Nicknames: Deitr, D.J.

* Gender: Male

* Appearance:  D.J. is a large man, fully seven feet tall and with enough muscle to look intimidating as possible, if it weren't for the kind face he's always presenting. To all outside appearances he still looks the football player he once was, with enough muscle to be strong but not quite so much that it looks excessive. His hair is short, almost a military cut, and the brown of it matches his eyes. His otherwise fairly perfect body is marred by the injury that took him from the field, an amputation below the knee of his left leg. He has several prostheses, from a bare-bones metallic number, to one designed for running, and another which looks like an actual leg. His style of dress is generally casual, to match his work situation, and he is always well groomed when not working.

- Age: 24
- Height: 7'1"
- Weight: 270
- Hair Color/Style: Brown, Crew Cut
- Eye Color: Brown
- Makeup: Usually none.
- Clothing: Jeans, shirts, boots. Has one or two nice outfits somewhere.
- Jewelry: Class Ring

* Race: Human, Caucasian.

* Physical Abilities/Limitations: Strong, handy with tools and weapons that are shaped like tools, able to take a lot of punishment. On the flip side, his leg while not generally limiting can pose certain problems.

Personality: DJ is a team player, has been since his earliest days and still is. From camaraderie on the field to the workplace, even to social situations, a crowd is where DJ shines. He's slow to anger, quick in compassion, but stubborn as an ox. When he sets his mind to something it's like moving a mountain his general size. He's persistent, bordering on belligerent, with an attitude that tends to grate if left alone with someone less enthusiastic for too long.

Background: DJ is the son of Rebecca and Luke Sampson, a wonderful married couple who are themselves doctors. They met in college and settled in the town at the local clinic after their residency. A few years later, they were blessed with the addition of DJ to their family. Childhood progressed normally until at age seven he was diagnosed with a "cognitive impairment", rather the change from his parents. They however were entirely too happy with him, regardless of his perceived societal abnormality. So DJ grew, into adulthood, being a fairly normal boy all the while. He excelled in sports, and passed his studies with the help and pushing of his parents, which allowed him to earn a college football scholarship.

In college, DJ tried his best and was an exemplary student. He was getting a degree in Construction Management, and playing football during the season. He enjoyed those years and was every bit the normal collegiate athlete, except for his size and a propensity for kindness towards the opposition. Though he would be the first to knock an opponent down flat, and he did so often, he was also the first to offer a hand back up after the whistle was blown. Then one weekend, after a marvelous night of partying, he was being driven home (not sober enough to drive himself), when a drunk driver in a different car T-boned the vehicle he was in on his side, the car crumpling around his body like an empty beer can. The driver was relatively unharmed, severe concussion, but DJ was sent to the hospital with pieces of metal and fiberglass embedded in his leg. The hospital did their best to remove it, but they missed a small piece beneath the skin. Despite their best work cleaning the wounds, it became gangrenous, and had to be partially removed. His football scholarship ended when his eligibility did, they wouldn't allow him to play with a prosthesis.

Despite two parents in the medical field who abhorred the thought, DJ sought a malpractice claim against the hospital and was rewarded with a fairly modest claim based on the average career of an NFL player, granting him 4 years of expectation, as well as the league minimum salary. The jury saw this, combined with the excellent legal representation DJ had received, and his overwhelmingly modest desires, and they gave him more than he had asked for. All things told, after his degree completion DJ had enough to start his own construction business, and give it its own first project. He may have been considered slow at one point, but one thing he understood was that he didn't want to work construction management his whole life. So he built an apartment complex, a fairly nice one, using most of his settlement money to start up the project. After it was complete and people moved in and the money started flowing, he put up a loan against his own property and built another. Then he stopped. He had two apartment complexes and a construction company, both of which were autonomous without him, and he pulled in enough money to live comfortably. So in his early twenties, he had no need for a career as he was making a fair amount of money, and spent a large amount of his time socializing, golfing, and generally keeping himself in shape so he looked good. His only trouble was the fact he could never be certain if the people he met were interested in him or just his money.

Beautifully done I say Anon.  A piece of art if I had ever seen one.  :D  Seriously though, I hope Jecter approves your fellow since he'd be a fool not to given the work you obviously put into this.  The only thing missing is what kind of fighter would he be if the need arose?  Like would you classify him as a barbarian, a knight, what?  Just curious more than anything lol.  Anyway, I'm heading to bed guys and gals and I'll see ya all tomorrow, hopefully with more news regarding the actual setting and all that if Jecter doesn't put it here himself.  Either way, adios!

Character Application
Basic Attributes

Given Name: Devin Fletcher
Nicknames: None

Gender: Male

Appearance:
- Age: 35.
- Height: 6’ 2”
- Weight: 190 lbs
- Hair Color/Style: Short corporate hairstyle, graying a bit at the sides.
- Eye Color: Brown
- Makeup: none
- Clothing: A suit, and some casual clothes
- Jewelry: An expensive watch.

Race: Human

Physical Abilities/Limitations: He is physically fit since he exercises every day and he likes to hike. Beyond that, he has no special physical skills. Despite being fit, he isn’t really into sports. Finding his life a little humdrum, he had started taking survival courses and going on survival excursions, but he is still inexperienced and has a lot to learn. Also, he takes his son to Scouts once a week, so he has some rudimentary knowledge of knot tying and other camping basics.

Personality;  Although living in a fantasyland might come as a bit of a shock, he has a logical way of thinking and an ability to not get overwhelmed that will serve him well. Also, he has developed a certain ruthless in his quest to succeed that was fed by his desire to escape the small town. He saw a lot in his younger days travelling around the world, so not much phases him. However, he has become fairly staid and boring in middle age. His creativity, imagination, and lust for life dried up long ago. The move to a fantasy world has the potential to reawaken his sense of adventure.

Background; Devin moved away from the small town long ago, a town he hated growing up in. He only came back for a few days to sign some papers regarding the sale of his parents home. The home is for sale because Devin has relocated his parents to a nursing home. Thinking he would only be in the town for a few days, he left his wife and two children back in the city.

Devin works in upper management in a software company. In his younger days he travelled the world, but once he got a corporate job, he became very conservative. He gets satisfaction out of the success he has had climbing the corporate ladder, but he does feel that the rat race has been a bit meaningless. He loves his family enough that he accepts the fact that he needs to work hard in a fairly boring job so he can supply them with the things they need to be comfortable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socioeconomic Class/Standing

Class: Middle to Upper class

Religion: none

Place of Birth: The town, but moved to the city after high school.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inventory; He has a laptop, a daytimer, a smartphone, and a leatherman multitool.

Weapons: He has his multitool which contains a few small knives, but beyond that, he doesn’t have any weapons.

Misc;  He doesn’t have much with him since he was only meant to be in town for a few days.

IMPORTANT UPDATE as of October 6th 2016 in A/A page

Caela

This looks like a LOT of fun. Will work up a CS for a fantasy native and see what the GM's thoughts on her are! :)

Caela

CS

Given Name: Alyra Drakkar

Nicknames: Ly (Lee)

Gender: Female

Appearance

Description: In her humanoid shape, Ly stands at an intimidating (especially for a female) 6'2, with long, lean muscles, golden skin, eyes like dark pools and a mane of midnight hair to the middle of her back. She moves with the grace and surety of a feline and her gaze can be anything from intensely penetrating to utterly dismissive depending on why it falls on you.

Age: 143

Height: 6'1

Weight: variable, though almost always heavier than she appears

Hair Color/Style: Black

Eye Color: Midnight blue, nearly black

Makeup: None

Clothing: Simple robes that are easy to move, and hide things, in.

Jewelry: A silver necklace with a pendant in the shape of a beast with the head of a woman, the body of a serpent, hooves like a horse, and the tail of a large feline, a gift from her mother when she came of Age, and a golden ring with her house crest (the imprint of a phoenix) on her left ring finger; her father's coming of Age gift to her.

Race: Shapeshifter

Physical Abilities/Limitations: Any limitations inherent to whatever shape she's in. Ex. shaped like a song-bird, she won't be the fastest flyer and would be in danger from predators that might see her as prey. This is why she has a decided preference for humanoid shapes (and their ability to use and carry a variety of weapons) or those of predators, though, when she feels safe and is just having fun, she also enjoys things like swimming as a dolphin or racing across plains as a horse.

If she has seen it, she can shape herself like it, but the better she knows a creature the better she is at taking that form and the longer she can hold it. Also the better she knows a particular creature, the less she has to concentrate to hold her form. An entirely new shape with take almost total concentration to hold for more than a few seconds making her vulnerable while she is learning that shape.

Mundane abilities include being a good shot with a bow, excellent in the use of knives (she will always have one on her somewhere), and a decent cook and she enjoys sketching, storytelling, singing and both teaching others and learning new things.

Personality: Ly is many things, but the chief among them is curious. Her curiosity, and desire to learn, are traits her parents always encouraged, though they have tried to curb just how she fulfills that curiosity when her desire to know something might have put her at risk in some way. She's also know to be kind and generous and particularly good with children. Being, just barely, considered an adult among her own tribe she attempts to act with care and thoughtfulness, but is still young enough to also act rash and impulsively at times. She was raised not to be too trusting of outsiders but cannot help but to give everyone a chance until they prove themselves unworthy of her trust.

While she may seem frivolous at times, she also has both the patience and loyalty to make an excellent friend, or a frightening enemy.

Background: Ly was raised in a loving household that was only one of many in her tribe. The tribe itself was fairly mistrusting of others and had long ago separated itself, withdrawing up into the mountains where they could raise their young and grow in peace, avoiding most of the tumults of the outside world. They weren't so insular, however, as to stop any of their children from seeking their own adventures, or returning when they felt the need, and the entire clan really did raise the children. Ly considered all of the adults in her tribe to be extended Aunt's and Uncles and all the other children to be family of sorts as well.

For the most part it was an easy childhood. They ran and played as they wished and most of their learning was of a practical nature, learning to shift into the animals around them and running the forests as anything from small, squirrel-like mammals, to hunting with wolves or flying high with birds-of-prey. There was formal training of course, reading, writhing, basic mathematics, the history of their tribe (though this histories were an oral tradition and not written down) but even that was handled in a more informal manner and taught to each child as they showed an interest and not on a set timetable. They also learned weapons or crafts as they showed an interest or aptitude so while some of her friends were learning to handle a sword, she was shooting with a bow and learning to fight, two-handed, with daggers, and while others learned weaving or glassblowing, she spent time learning to sketch, cook, and tell the tales their tribe all loved.

The same curiosity she was famed for among her people however, is what would, ultimately, take her from her home. She simply had to see the rest of their world and, with her parents gifts and blessing, she set out on her own to see and learn and gather stories from outside their mountains. When she heard of an entire town that simply appeared out of nowhere, there was nothing for it but that she must travel there and see it for herself!

Over time she has discovered that she doesn't need much in the way of coin while she travels. Her gifts at song and storytelling will, usually, earn her enough in trade to more than pay for her room and board when she stops at an Inn and may even leave her with a few coins to spare. As her needs are actually very few (she prefers to travel light), and the poverty in some places amazes her, these few coins often find their way into the hands of the less fortunate of a town before she takes her leave of it. There will always be more towns ahead to earn more money if she needs it and nothing pulls at her heartstrings faster, or harder, than the sight of a hungry child.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socioeconomic Class/Standing

Class: This is mostly unknown among her own people as everyone's needs are met and resources are shared; while travelling, she finds it easiest to identify herself as an informal Bard and her tribes singing and storytelling skills keep people from asking too many questions.

Religion: Nothing organized but her tribe has a deep reverence for the Earth and all her creatures.

Place of Birth: Mountain village where her tribe lives.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inventory: While traveling she will have a bow and quiver and will carry a dagger in sheaths on each thigh (easily reached through slits in pockets of the robes she wears) as well as a small purse of coins, a pack with a couple changes of clothing, some small bits of food (though mostly she'll forage and hunt for herself, and flint for starting a fire. In a town she will usually rent a room, often paying for the rental by entertaining customers with stories in the common room and while her pack and bow might be left in the room, she is never without her knives.

Weapons: A bow and quiver, and two daggers are her near constant companions. She can handle a sword if one is thrust at her, but she doesn't excel in the use of one and it will never be a favorite weapon for her.

Misc: The ring and necklace her parents gave her are always on her as well and never get left no matter how nice the Inn she might stop in for the night.

I'm hoping it will be good.  :D  With such extensively done profiles and the like it's looking quite promising.  The only thing you forgot or maybe I just didn't make it clear enough in the character sheet before, either way it's just that regardless if you're a human from the town or not, I'd prefer if you stuck something in your Class that relates to how you fight or whatever it is you do as well as how much money you might have or not.  Like are you a rogue, knight, etc.  Beyond that it's well put together Caela.

Sorry, guess I didn't make that clear enough. She would never have much money on her person. She earns her way as she travels by doing odd jobs or performing/storytelling at the Inns she stays at which would earn her some coin if people were generous but would never make her rich and between towns she hunt and forages for herself. Will do some tweaking on the profile. :)

Tweaked the bio and class a bit to cover the fact that she doesn't carry much coin, if any, at any given time and that her weapons training focused mostly on fighting, two-handed, with daggers.

I believe so. So far we have:
Erik (Male, Human)
Annabella (Female, Human)
DJ (Male, Human)
Devin (Male, Human)
Alyra (Female, Shapeshifter)

So we're in need of more from the spooky side of things, methinks, as well as more females if we're hoping to keep a balance. Of course that's more for the GM's to answer whether they are seeking balance between the sexes as well as between the factions.

Hi,
As I said before, I'm preparing my character and she will be a native elf Ranger. Só I guess it will help balance.

Now is there a way I can be from the modern world but have some racial ties to the fantasy world? Like half elf or something?

I was also wondering about this. I was toying with the idea that my human character from the town finds out he has ancestors from the fantasy world. Or something like that.

Is it possible this town has shifted to the fantasy realm at other times in the past?

Vergil1989

Jecter can answer some of these as well but since he's not around I'll do the best I can.  Still they're good questions.  :D  No I do not believe the town has fallen into the other world before so unfortunately your request to be half elf or something similar might not work so well.  And yes I think we're going after a balance of both F/M on both sides of the line, so whether you're from the town or not just be sure we have a good equal number of guys to gals if you can.  :D

Actually Chreestafer, there might be a way to make it work.  Maybe not the whole town idea but if your ancestors or something passed through like the Bermuda Triangla or something like that they might have wound up there by accident and came back with a kid, lol.  Just a quick thought, take it or leave it.  :P  Seriously though that's the only thing that comes to mind at the moment but if you do decide to use it by all means knock yourself out.  And no worries Stargirl, I'm still working on my own profile and stuff so there's no rush yet.  We have until Friday to get things settled anyway and by then hopefully Jecter will have gotten his own stuff done.

Did I forget anything?

Character Sheet
Basic Attributes

* Given Name: Ciara Pickrel

* Nicknames: Cee, Cee-Are

* Gender: Female

* Appearance:
- Age: 18
- Height: 5'8"
- Weight: 125 lbs.
- Hair Color/Style: Brunette, straight, shoulder-length
- Eye Color: brown
- Makeup: Usually minimal, but she might lay it on thick when up-dressing.
- Clothing: At work, a variety of skirt and top combinations, or the occasional business-casual dress.  At home she usually wears old jeans with tank tops or tees.  Scandalously short skirts with bare-midriff tops when going out.
- Jewelry: Pierced ears sporting rings in a variety of styles, always accessorized to her current outfit.  No finger rings.  Sometimes a clasp or broach when dressed for work.  A plethora of bling-style wristlets, necklaces, and earrings when going out.

* Race: Human Caucasian.

* Physical Abilities/Limitations: Ciara isn't either particularly bright nor all that dim.  Her grades in school consistently averaged around B-minus, and she was content with that.  Despite her mother's constant lectures telling how much she has to offer, how smart and funny and talented she is, and that she could do anything she wanted, she feels that her greatest strength is her looks.

She's pretty.  Maybe even exceptionally pretty.  She was included in every smart-phone, text, or internet poll the boys in her school held related to who was prettiest, who you'd most want to, who was hot-or-not, etc, etc.  She occasionally won these juvenile polls, but usually she lost to that blonde bimbo Maryanne Kelly or one of the other pretty girls in her school.

Defining yourself by your looks, and then not being the uncontested prettiest girl around is a formula for building insecurity.  And Ciara is full of insecurities.  She has doubts about everything she does and second-guesses herself every time events force her to make a decision.  She'd much rather let someone make those decisions for her.  She's not a leader, but she's a great follower.

She is in top physical condition from eight years of intensive gymnastics and cheer training, and from a summer spent in the physically challenging ROTC Basic Course.

Personality; Ciara wants to be needed, but she's afraid to be noticed.  She's outgoing, friendly enough to seem quite the tease, and insecure enough to put out to any guy with decent game. She hates herself after, particularly when the guy never calls again.

Put her in a group though, and she quickly assumes an identity as a part of something bigger than herself.  Be it the cheer squad, or her tactical squad in Basic, she fits in and assumes the values of her peers.

Background;  There is nothing at all exceptional about the Pickrel family.  Dennis is a wielder in the maintenance department at the biggest local employer, and Susan is a moderately successful real estate agent and housewife.  Their three children are equally unexceptional.

In high school Ciara took business classes like typing and computer use and accounting, not daring to risk developing creative skills or doing anything interesting.  She doesn't particularly care to be noticed, but when her best friend went out for cheerleading, Ciara slavishly followed her lead.

In cheer she found release from the ordinary - and the outfit became her facade. People weren't looking at her, weren't noticing her, they were noticing the uniform and the role she played.  And it wasn't like she was out there cheering alone - she was surrounded by her squad.  She loved cheer. And she was good at it.  She worked hard, trained hard, and performed brilliantly.  She wasn't the captain of the squad, wasn't the head cheerleader,  and in her own estimation she wasn't the prettiest girl in cheer.  Ciara was a girl that defined herself by her appearance, and she surrounded herself with girls she thought were better looking than herself.  If she ever considered therapy, the therapist might ask why she would sabotage  herself like that.  But therapy never once crossed her mind.

The one thing Ciara was really good at was... intensity.  She worked twice as hard as anyone else on the routines, and she was indisputably the most technically proficient girl on the squad.  Arguably, she was the most proficient girl in the conference. Those that think cheer isn't a sport don't know what they're talking about.  Cheer is brutally hard, more dangerous to the athletes than football, and most of all, under-appreciated.  Just like Ciara.  Safely anonymous as part of the squad and unnoticed while surrounded by the more beautiful girls, she felt like she belonged to something when she cheered.  She wanted to do it forever.  The best cheer school in the country was the University of Kentucky.  Only she wasn't from Kentucky and her working class family couldn't afford out-of-state tuition.  She had hopes for a cheerleading scholarship to UKY.  She got all the way to the final cuts before failing.

But she was an alternate, and locked for a place on the B-squad if only she could get admitted to UKY.  That's where her boyfriend Dave saved the day.  He mentioned ROTC, and how they paid for school on a full-ride.  She wasn't at all into military stuff and didn't know much about it.  But once she talked to the recruiter she found out that the Services weren't all about fighting and war.  Just about anything you wanted to do, you could do in uniform.

You could even be an Army Accountant. B's weren't the best grade. They weren't good enough for the Air Force, but they were good enough for the Army.  So Ciara signed up for Army ROTC at UKY, and she got in.

She spent the summer after graduation at ROTC Basic Camp, and got back home with a few weeks to relax before fall classes began. With nothing better to do, she works as a receptionist at a small office, where she mostly just sits around looking pretty, answers the phone, and makes the run for takeout when people work through their lunch.

* Class: Blue-collar working middle class.  In the fantasy realm she'd be the rogue/cat-burglar/acrobat. She's exceptionally lithe and flexible, and pound-for-pound stronger than most guys.

* Religion: Practicing if not devout Christian

* Place of Birth: (The Town)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inventory;
  She's only home for a few weeks prior to going off to college.  Most of her things are packed up, either in storage over her parent's garage, or waiting to go with her to school. She lives out of suitcases in her own home, and has only a wallet, a cell phone, and occasionally the keys to her brother's car.

* Weapons: She has an army kay-bar knife, along with the rest of her TA50 gear in a duffel bag, but she hasn't opened the bag since leaving the Training Base.

* Misc;  She has no real personal mementos she's always with, though her grandmother was staunchly Catholic and Ciara inherited her St. Christopher.  She wears it when traveling.

Ok so how do I set a character sheet like that so I can get my guy created :)
“The Doctor: This is bad, I don't like this. [kicks console and yells in pain] Never use force, you just embarrass yourself. Unless you're cross, in which case... always use force!
Amy: Shall I run and get the manual?
The Doctor: I threw it in a supernova.
Amy: You threw the manual in a supernova? Why?
The Doctor: Because I disagreed with it! Now stop talking to me when I'm cross!”

Thanks Vergil.

Chreestafer - there's a sheet template in the first post of this thread.  "Quote" that post, and then edit-off the opening and closing [ quote ] tags and fill in the sheet.
That's what I did.  I also wrapped things in spoilers with the "hide" button on the editor bar.

Regarding your question in PM, our characters can be neighbors if you want.  Though most likely they won't be friends.

Chreestafer

Ok thanks I'll set my character up at home tonight.

As for the neighbor thing it truly up to you I could find someone else.  I was just gonna run with a small idea of maybe as kids they were friends but grew up and grew apart.  My character is going to be a navy seal.  I'll explain in my bio all that but he's going to returning home before thinags happen. It's just a thought though...

Probably not then.  She's only 18 and about to start college, if he's been in the Navy long enough to become a seal he's several years older than her.

Chreestafer

It's cool seal training is only 2 year deal so I was gonna have him at 23ish since he joined at 18 but that's cool I'll work something out with another character :) thanks

I have a question for you Chreestafer.  Under your YIM icon you have something that says Watched with a green apostrophe thing on the left hand side.  Care to explain that since I have never seen that before while on E.  If you're being monitored by the people in charge and you end up getting kicked or something then that might be a problem.  If it's not that serious though then go ahead and see what someone wants to do and all that.

I might need someone to be my gal's friend if anyone wants to volunteer.  I haven't finished her background yet but she was date raped at a party, hence why she ran back to the town as she has.  Beyond that I don't really have a whole lot to go on at the moment.

Oh, I see.  Sorry to sound rude or anything about all that, just wasn't sure what to think since I've never seen that before and had no idea why it'd be there except for some kind of trouble said person might have been in here.  Thanks for telling me and as long as you're careful I don't see a problem with you staying.  :P  At any rate, if you want to hook up with my girl I'll finish her background up here soon enough and go from there.

At least six I believe, five humans from the town and one fantasy creature if I remember right.  I could be mistaken but someone's been nice enough to keep making an up-to-date listing of who we have so far.  At any rate, again it's fine Chreestafer so no worries.  :P

IMPORTANT UPDATE as of October 6th 2016 in A/A page

Vergil1989

Basic Attributes

* Given Name: Annabella Swanson

* Nicknames: Gamer Girl, D & D GM of Doom

* Gender: Female

* Appearance:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
- Age: 27
- Height: 5 foot 3 inches
- Weight:  150 pounds
- Hair Color/Style: (See pic.)
- Eye Color: Mismatched eyes.  Left is blood red while the right is sky blue.
- Makeup: She doesn't wear makeup anymore.
- Clothing: She used to be into semi revealing outfits that would show off her body without going into rude or obscene territory but now she's far more conservative and covers up far more than she used to.  Long pants, long sleeve shirts, etc.
- Jewelry: Used to have a metal piercing in her tongue but had it removed.  Otherwise she still wears the occasional hoop earring and her class ring from New York Art Institute.

* Race: Human

* Physical Abilities/Limitations: Before her incident that had forced her to move to the city that would disappear off the face of the map, Annabella or Anna as she was more commonly called used to be a bit overweight.  She was a gamer first and foremost growing up and had always wanted to make her own games both computer and otherwise growing up.  Her mind is sharp and despite being overweight at the time, her reflexes were even sharper, always had been.  She used to go out for soccer and Kung Fu classes growing up until she hit high school, but then her parents split up and the classes and soccer went with her mom.  Still, she wasn't overly upset at the breakup itself since her mother wasn't exactly mom of the year material, just that most of her old friends were also into the same things she'd been in so having to move away from all that had taken its toll on her physical health and emotional well-being for a while.  Even so, Anna recovered enough to get through the rest of her years of high school and graduated at the top of her class.  Art had always been her strong suit regardless and fantasy in general another passion of hers, always eager for the newest Dungeons and Dragons material she could get her hands on.  During her college years she earned quite a name for herself as a challenging GM Mistress, often with jokes being thrown around that she was the GM of Doom since few ever survived her mentally taxing puzzles she threw into each and every dungeon she created, sometimes taking said puzzles from books or games she had either read or played recently and adding her own twist to them.

While there is little chance of her actually making the traps herself or anything close to them, drawing them out is a whole other ball game.  Planning and sketching designs for medieval styled booby traps and the like for her dungeons she ran before having to run for the hills was more of a hobby than anything, but it was still quite fun all the same.  Castle siege scenarios, raiding tactics, boss battle fights of various design; ask and she's probably at least thought of it at some point if nothing else.  She still retains the knowledge of her kung fu classes but not the body to keep up with more experienced or in fit opponents, at least not these days.  Given enough time she could easily get back into the swing of things but it'd take someone of considerable patience to manage it.

Personality;  Before the incident, Anna was the social butterfly and everyone's friend in general, although she wasn't loose or wanton by nature.  She just liked people and was very trusting despite a somewhat rough childhood with her mom and father getting a divorce when she was 12.  There was no way she was going to go with her mom and her dad wasn't about to let her go so despite having to move away from everything she knew save for the fact they at least stayed in New York, Anna was raised in the lap of luxury one could almost argue.  Despite having an easier life than most she didn't let it get to her head....too much.  In a way, the incident that changed her life leveled Anna's slowly spiraling life back on a better path than she had been on but the pain of it still remains to this day.  Now she trusts very few people and has all but isolated herself from the world, only coming out to buy groceries or do other necessary things along those lines while vastly preferring to work from home now and keeping herself out of harm's way.  Regardless of her fear of people in general, Anna still holds her curiosity and sharp mind and despite being an above average intellectual, she is also very open minded about some things such as mystical happenings although believing in them is another thing altogether these days.  If classified with an alignment from her D & D days, she'd have been considered Chaotic Good.  Even now despite being an emotional train wreck she'd still retain the same classification.

Background;  She had been at the town before, to see her grandparents for a while shortly after her parents had gotten their divorce.  Her father had wanted to go out of the city and seeing his parents, her grandparents had seemed like quite a good idea.  They moved back to New York at the end of the summer, and while things were still a bit rough she never forgot the place which was small but quite welcoming to her and her dad.  Every summer after that they went back until she turned 16 when her grandparents died of heart attacks at the same time.  While statistically rare to have two heart attacks on the same day, the shock of seeing his wife of close to 50 years having a heart attack had sent her grand dad into a similar spiral.  Thankfully a neighbor came later that day and while the news was quite saddening, at least they went together and they didn't suffer too long.  Still, they left the house to their grand daughter and most of their possessions as well, having always favored Anna over any of their other grand children which were few and far between since she had come from a relatively small family.  Everyone had been quite friendly and she had made a few friends while she had been there up until then.  Still, all things had to come to an end and life rolled on until her 18th birthday.  That was when everything changed for the worse.

Before, while slightly overweight for most of her life after her parents' divorce, Annabella had been the social butterfly and always active in many things during her high school and college days, as short lived as they'd prove to be.  She wasn't exactly into the whole party scene but neither would she walk away from her friends if they needed a ride home or something so she normally went to parties and the like, mainly to serve as the designated driver if nothing else.  She took the time to study using her laptop which held all of her notes and programs she used for her computer design classes and the like, and during those days was normally able to find a quiet spot where no one would bother her most of the time.  A couple months after her 18th birthday though, she had started to see a guy who she had started to like.  He was head of the basketball team and as these things sometimes happen, a few drinks and one thing leading to another found Anna in a situation she had absolutely no control over.  She learned that her choice of boyfriend had an anger issue and didn't take being rejected well....at all.  But instead of lashing out like most people would have he got clever and rooffied her drink.  The next thing she knew she was sandwiched between him and one of his buddies.  The pain alone was nearly enough to snap her sanity as she screamed bloody murder before feeling her rapist ex boyfriend backhand her into unconsciousness once more.  Thankfully one of her friends had heard her and immediately got the cops to come out after all but knocking down the door to the bedroom she was locked in with the two drunken assholes.  Having found a baseball bat, her friend proceeded to beat the living shit out of both of them before carrying Anna to safety.  The party was officially over when word got out about what happened.

The damage had been done however and Anna was never the same again.  She still has nightmares about that night, mostly a drugged blur but it's more than enough to keep her up at night most days.  She promptly arranged to move into her grandparents' home back in the town and hasn't been back to New York since.  Her father calls her regularly and some of her friends still come out when they can but they have started lives of their own while Annabella has all but grown stagnate save for her work she does over the internet since she is almost too afraid now to go outside anymore after everything she had gone through.  The two that had done what they did to her are still rotting in prison last she had heard anything about them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socioeconomic Class/Standing

* Class: Upper Middle Class.  Would likely work towards being a monk.

* Religion: Former Christian

* Place of Birth:  New York, New York.  Upper East Side.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inventory;  Other than her cellphone, laptop computer which rarely leaves the house, charger, purse full of her ID and credit cards and other essentials and the like, Anna doesn't carry much out of the usual except a taser and a bottle of pepper spray.  Being date raped doesn't exactly allow one to go outside the house unprepared if one's gotten paranoid enough as she has.

* Weapons: Other than a taser and a can of pepper spray, she carries nothing to defend herself.  She has some basic kung fu but is really out of shape and hasn't practiced for years.

* Misc;  Has a wide array of fantasy and computer games, books, movies and other media as well as hand drawn sketches of her old dungeons she used to run.  She did however toss her D & D book called the Book of Erotic Fantasy given what happened to her, or so she thinks anyway since by happy chance alone it wound up in a box up in the attic of her house.  Given it once was one of her favorite rule sets with her own blend added to the lot so they weren't half broken as they were by themselves or too overpowered as was the case with some of the stuff in the book, if found she might be quite grateful if the timing is right of course.

IMPORTANT UPDATE as of October 6th 2016 in A/A page

Vergil1989

Basic Attributes

* Given Name: Neria Zathrieal

* Nicknames:

* Gender: Female

* Appearance:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
((In armor.))

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
((Normal appearance.))
- Age: 165
- Height: 5' 4''
- Weight: 135 pounds
- Hair Color/Style: Golden lustrous blond that falls across her back in waves.
- Eye Color: Deep sea green eyes
- Makeup: Usually only uses exotic perfumes for the most part, and only when she's playing the part of the sacred prostitute does she do so.
- Clothing: When not in her elven mithril chainmail, Neria favors transparent robes made of silk or satin to other soft and usually revealing outfits.  Not a fan of leather or anything else associated with BDSM since pain is not her thing.
- Jewelry: Neria lives simply to serve and aid others, and so she doesn't like to flaunt wealth in the form of necklaces and earrings and the like.

* Race: Light elf

* Physical Abilities/Limitations: Longevity, agility and dexterity, strength, and far seeing eyes and other keen senses are all traits of the elven race.  Neria is in prime physical condition since she was trained as a cleric at an early age after the brutal deaths of her family and friends.  However, even after her near complete recovery, if even a sign of an orc is seen by her, don't expect much mercy to be had if she manages to catch up with the brutes.  The only time Neria loses her calm and gentle nature is in the presence of foul orcs.  Neria has trained heavily in the cleric and the more healing oriented arts of the sacred prostitutes, sacred lovemakers that use their bodies rather than herbs or traditional magics to restore and to tend to the sick, wounded, or cursed, and they are also able to restore magic users' spells in this manner.  Some are able to communicate to the gods in this manner as well, finding out information that would otherwise be impossible to find.

While she has the common traits of her elven kind, Neria is not a rogue and so cannot do acrobatic feats that would match such a classification.  Nor is she an archer by any stretch of the imagination.  She can hunt and cook and even barter for reasonable prices at market as well as read and write, but beyond that she has few skills she could fall back on if the need arose.  Her gentle nature could be taken advantage of if her adversary is smarter than she is but if she were to find out such be warned that elves have long memories.  Some would go out of their way to exact a suitable punishment if not outright revenge for such duplicity.

Personality;  Neria Zathrieal is probably one of the nicest and most generous people you'll ever come into contact with.  Steadfast in her friendships, honest to a fault, loyal, and easy to get along with, the light elf cleric gives of herself freely and her powers are only used to help those in need.  She would not see someone suffer if she could help it, and has often gone out of her way to help complete strangers with a healing spell or a simple word of encouragement, as long as they were willing to listen of course.  Her mere presence is soothing and relaxing most days, but the only time this gentle woman becomes hard and unforgiving is when someone tries to abuse what she gives or in the presence of orcs because of what they had done to her family and clan so long ago.

Background;  Neria's story begins when she was fifteen, when orcs raided, slaughtered, and raped her family and friends.  She had been spared thanks to her mother hiding her within a hollowed log, but a hundred years would pass before she ever fully recovered from that night and the events that transpired.  She learned to be a cleric from the man that led a group of adventurers through the orc horde that had destroyed everything she held dear, but there were some wounds that not even his considerable power was able to touch.  Learning to be a Sacred Prostitute years later, Neria found that due to her traumatic start, she wasn't able to get intimately close to anyone until she went on an adventure of her own.  The journey led to her meeting a man that showed her she had nothing to fear anymore, and gave her peace of mind, body, and soul before they parted ways.  From this feeling of utter peace that she had never known until then, the elven cleric used what she had learned and felt and wanted to share it with any that would receive it, and so she became a wandering cleric and general healer, doing all in her power to bring aid to the lands she came into contact with.

She met many good and lasting friends over her travels, the most notable being the Do'Urden family.  Giselle especially hit it off with the cleric despite their opposite blood lines, Neria being a light elf and Giselle being half dark and light elven in nature.  Despite this, they became fast friends and keep in contact with each other whenever the opportunity presents itself.  For now though Neria does hope to find something more than her current wandering life since while she enjoys the honest work that she does, it is not always easy being alone in the wild places of the world.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socioeconomic Class/Standing

* Class: Cleric/Sacred Prostitute  Generally poor by choice since she needs little save for food, shelter, and the like.

* Religion: Corellan Larathain

* Place of Birth: Continent of Faerun within the Plane of Existence of Toril.  Born in an elven encampment deep in the Trollbark Forest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inventory

* Weapons: A long sword and shield that bears the crescent moon of the elven god of war and protection, Corellan Larathain.  Both items are enchanted with holy magics, making them quite effective against the undead although they can be used against more common foes like orcs, goblins, and the like easily enough.

* Misc;  Other than a pack and a belt full of healing potions, spell components, and gear to survive out in the wild, Neria travels light and without showing any apparent physical wealth in the form of money or jewels, (although she could have plenty of both through the donations offered to her and the followers of Sune back home,) Neria keeps a necklace of her god around her neck at all times to serve as a holy symbol to aid in her healing magics.

I shake my fist at you vergil I really do. Making another game that just has to catch my eye. :P

Tries to look back and see what you need~ I believe you need more females. I have an idea for both a towns person and a fantasy girl. I'll see about working up some sheets.

Anon315

Chreestafer, few things about your sheet. One: "Military Naval Uniform", if we're talking U.S. Navy, they have at least six. Dress and Casual Blues and Whites, ACU's / Coveralls, and Utility Blues ("Dungarees"). Two: No women deployed with a combatant craft such as a carrier until October 1994, and of the women who deployed and became pregnant (15 out of about 400) all were shipped back to shore for birth. Three: The number of deployments is fine, but you don't get two months of liberty. Liberty is a weekend thing, generally. You'll get a day off or a day tacked onto a weekend so you don't have to travel fast. Leave is the longer time away, and is feasible to have two months saved up especially after a deployment.

I don't mean to harp on this, but it's a matter of semi-realism. You're seeking to play a character based on something that others have lived, and while I'm willing to suspend a little bit of the strictures of reality, this just slapped me in the face.

Chreestafer

I mean no disrespect so don't take it as such.  I might have messed the terms up however I do know little as my brother is in the navy. So I'm going off what little I've heard so truly ment no disrespect.

I don't know anything about the military myself so the facts you've given Anon are most welcome.  And thank you Chrees for being so willing to make the necessary changes since he's right.  The realism part of being a townie is what I'm at least hoping to find regarding character sheets.  Fantasy characters get a bit more freedom unless you're using a well known history and world and all that, in which case just know your stuff is all I ask.

And Curvy, sorry lol.  But otherwise feel free to drop in.  And this isn't technically my game, I'm just helping to run it.  :P  I haven't forgotten about the other game so don't worry on that, I've just been kind of sick and busy lately but I'll get back to it today if all goes well.

And is it alright to say my town girl was on the edge of town rock climbing?

Also the fantasy characters guessing base races, do we bother with a class?

And what Level are they relatively at?

Vergil1989

I don't see a problem with that Curvy.  And I'd say around oh, early spring if not early summer.  Either way it'd be past winter so the weather would be nice if nothing else.  :D  As for the fantasy races, yes a class is necessary for everyone since most fantasy people can be classified as being something or another.  It helps to dictate what you're good at and what you're not on top of whatever else you throw into the mix along the way.  Rogues are normally thieves, able to lockpick and sneak about either through the use of acrobatics or blending into a crowd at will.  Clerics are generally healers but also good at taking out undead at will, etc etc you get the idea lol.  As for level, I'd have to look at my DnD stuff to be sure but I think level six is high enough for any specialty classes you wish to throw along with your main stuff so anywhere between 5 and 10 at the highest I'd wager but again Jecter might say differently.  He's supposed to be free sometime today and the weekend I'd imagine so we'll be starting this soon enough I'm sure.

So where's said town located? Any where near the ocean (I.e. Virginia beach or something) cause then I can have other to where the naval base is near the town which I live in. Any objections?

My character background put the town at late summer/early fall just before college fall term would start.  I can re-write the character if needed, but it's important to her skills and equipment and thought it worth mentioning.

And do we still have Jecter?  He hasn't posted in a while.

Vergil1989

Ah crap, sorry Yes, and I'm hoping so but I'm not sure since I haven't heard anything from him either for a while through PMs.  He is pretty busy so it's probably safe to assume that if this doesn't start by Sunday then he won't be coming along.  If that happens then I'll take over until a suitable replacement can be found.  Half tempted just to take over now and say screw it since I'm practically running this anyway lol.  Joking aside, sorry for the inconvenience bud.

If we're anywhere in a coastal vicinity I can give you a base to base out of. I traveled the entire world save Antarctica in my time in service.

Basic Attributes

* Given Name: Elisabeth Alice Rockwell

* Nicknames:Lizzy, BB, Rockcy

* Appearance:

Appearance:

- Hair Color/Style: Brown straight with layers
- Eye Color: Blue

- Clothing: Wearing when the city poofs, more in her rucksack.
- Jewelry: Her dad's dog-tags on a chain with a celtic cross

* Race: Human

* Physical Abilities/Limitations:

Lizzy is in the prime of her life, her body well trained after years of being an adventure junkie. Her grandfather insisting she take something to stay active. Lizzy took on gymnastics and marksmenship. Granted marksmenship was more due to her father. Her father teaching her to fight while he was still alive. As he wasn't going to have a daughter that could defend herself or kick some pushy guys ass. One of her main limitations is the fact that and accident that happened 8 years ago messed up her nerves. She can no longer feel pain, and where as most would see that as a plus. Elisabeth has to be careful, really checking on things when she gets hurt. Or checking over her body at the end of one of her outings. Because she doesn't know or can't feel when her body has been pushed too far. Can't feel that random cut that could get infected.(which has happened and put her in the hospital once.)  She is also limited to human strength, she may be at the peak of her ability but she can still be out-benched. Limited to low light vision, unable to see in the dark.

Personality;

Elisabeth was always an open child, never afraid of anything. She was the girl climbing to the top of the tree, or chase after spiders and lizards. Ever the tom boy she grew up being the girl not afraid to get dirty. Growing up with only her dad probably contributed to the way she is. But she wouldn't change it for anything in the world. It may not have been normal but who likes normal anyway. She embraces life every chance she gets, learning early on that it is far too short to stand by and watch it pass you by. One of her favorite sayings is “Don't regret the things that make you smile”. When she wants something she goes for it. Elisabeth doesn't hold a grudge, and for the most part is rather laid back. But when she does get pissed, look out she is a force to get recoded with. But then again what woman isn't.

Background;
Elisabeth was born to Anthony Rockwell and Sara Rockwell. Her mother a lovely Italian woman from a well off family, that had run off with Anthony and was disowned by her family. But she didn't care as she was young and in love. Her father an up and coming military man. Part of the army, it was his stationing that had him meeting Sara in the first place.

Her mother died during child birth, a sad loss for the man she left behind. But he ended up with a beautiful baby girl that he loved very much. But he wasn't really your typical father. He had no idea how to raise a girl, so he did the best he could. But thankfully he wasn't alone; where ever he was stationed the base just about took them both in. She was their smallest and loudest cheerleader. Anthony didn't know how bad it was that his five year old daughter knew how to take apart and put together some of the army rifles better the newbie’s. But he loved watching them get frustrated sitting trying to field strip their weapon and Lizzy was telling them everything they were doing wrong. She was allowed nearly everywhere  when she was little. As she wasn't really a security risk because she couldn't see over the counters.

As she grew up she was still a fan of the military, always fallowing her father where ever he went. He let her learn whatever she wanted, which was sometimes not the best thing. Learning everything form, the proper spit ball, how to build a canon, break into a car, and bluff in a poker game. But he also insisted on her learning how to defend herself. Hard to mess with a girl that learned to fight from a military prospective. Granted in the end her father always said if you end up in a fight you can't avoid fight to win.

For the most part they were happy, it sucked having to move so much. But she looked on the bright side and enjoyed getting to see the world. Learning about things most kids didn't even get to imagine till they saw it on TV. She couldn't complain about anything that was till the day her dad died. The horrible accident that put her in the hospital and took him from her was when her life turned upside down. She had just turned 15 and her dad and her were celebrating by taking her to a party that the whole platoon had set up. It was great she even got to sneak a drink because of her dad's brother Mike. She thought it was an amazing day, despite the sudden thunder storm that hit. Having to run in the rain didn't both her.

But on the way home a drunk driver coming down the other side of the street. Hitting their car and sending it flying. When she came to once more the car was upside down. Her father's voice telling her to stay awake, not to panic and that help was one the way. At least she swore that it was, even with the medics saying he died on impact. She was stuck in the hospital for months, her spin was damaged. Thankfully not completely severed, so she didn't have to learn to walk all over again. But after she was no longer able to feel. For about two years she was completely without sensation. In the end that came back but her ability to feel pain never did.

After the accident her grandparents came into the picture. Her uncle tried to fight for custody, to keep her from having to deal with what her mother did. They didn't want anything to do with her before why would they want anything to do with her now? But after a long legal battle her mother’s family with more money won out. Taking her in and changing her way of life completely. Forcing her to do and be what they wanted. Taking on more classes, and things they thought were more appropriate for a lady. Dancing, gymnastics, manners and even music. She managed to get them to agree to marksmanship since she found several female athletes within the sport.

Once she was 19 they agreed to give a year to travel and see the world. But after a year she would either have to go to find a real career or go back to a school of their choosing. Thankfully with all her travels she found something that not only made her happy, it made her a decent amount of money. She became a writer and photographer, having a book on her travels published before she was 20. And a deal for two more in the works.

This is what randomly found her in the town she was one it. She came in and stayed in town for a few days. After that she wondered the woods and went to climb so of the local ridges and see what kind of shots she could get. Nearly a week out and about camping in the woods now she had now idea what was to come next.

Beautifully done Curvy, and I'll take a wild guess here and say that she's kind of a mix between your standard archer and a fighter of sorts given her military upbringing, mixing the best of both you might say lol.  I'm talking about the whole class thing as far as if you prefer DnD terms that almost everyone here seems to forget.  Something to work towards if given the chance.  Ammo won't last forever after all.  Besides that, you don't want to try to punch someone wearing adamantite armor since you're likely to break every bone in your hand and it's potentially bullet proof probably if I had to take a guess.  While I wouldn't expect such a tough armor to pop up the idea is the same.  Fantasy world means different rules of engagement in certain situations.  Adapting is the key to this whole affair, but that works both ways.

Anyway, Hanged actually makes an excellent point so we'll stick with fall so you won't have to rewrite anything Yes.  As for the naval base idea, I just got done watching Battleship so color me intrigued lol.  I did have a town lined up and sent to Jecter for approval but I've yet to hear a yeah or a no on it so if anyone knows of any towns or small cities or whatever that might work feel free to make some suggestions at this point.

Lol I'm too nice to nitpick usually but I noticed that as well.  :P  Anyway, I might just start getting threads going tomorrow afternoon if I don't hear from Jecter by then.  That way we won't have to wait around forever.  I'd still like someone else to run this game but I'd still Co-GM if nothing else but until then and if Jecter isn't able to help out then I'll do what I can.  Adios and see ya tomorrow.  I got a new game or two I want to try out before I pass out tonight lol.

My bad sorry, I actually only did that accidentally once in the whole post. My bad...any other issues?

yesiroleplay

I like the idea of (The Town) being a smallish place, though perhaps near a small city or at the very outlying fringe of a metropolitan area. A town of about a 1,000 souls or so, with wooded hills and farmland just out of town.

And if whatever cut them off from the modern world was some form of spherical volume or 'bubble' effect, maybe the whole town didn't make it.  Streets, sewer, water, and gas lines cut of at the edge of the effect, even houses and vehicles and NPCs cut off with one part left behind while the other part moved.

The modern townsfolk might even spend the whole first chapter of the story/game dealing with the chaos and disruption of the move - a cut utility trunk could spew out flammable gas that ignites from sputtering electrical shorts - cars could run off the street into fields, or even over cliffs or into walls that weren't there a moment ago...

Lots and lots could happen before people really have a chance to explore the wider New World.

It was more like every time - at least four times.  One of them is still there. It's marksmanship - not marksmenship - maybe the plural misspelling defeated your search-n-replace.

I'm glad to have such creative genius surround me on a regular basis here on E.  I'm with Hanged lol.  Ok, now we just need to settle on a means for this to happen but I had planned to have the 'teleportation' spell or whatever we agree upon do most of what you said here Yes, you just extended it into epic levels lol.  Just checking in once more before I pass out.  Adios for now and I'll get things going tomorrow, with or without Jecter, but hopefully with him since he did kindly offer to lend a hand at the very beginning and all.  But if RL has got him tied up then we might not have a choice.

Ok, so I am free (sorta) to post now that opening weekend has been completed. I've had a read through of the thread and all the characters look good to me.

As for the manner of transportation, I'm going to say that it was magic. A spell was cast by an inexperienced mage and things sort of backlashed on him and ripped a hole through time and space itself. Of course, along with the town it also reaches into another plane of existence and drags something kind of nasty out along with it. I'll try and get as much of the setting and opening post up by early monday morning. In the meantime, I'll get a character thread and an OOC thread for people to have some fun in while you wait.

Chaeronea

Damn, I'm trying to cut down on my roleplaying commitments and I find this. I'm really not happy :(

Seriously, is there room for me to play another townsfolk male in this game? The character I've had in mind would be an adaptation of a character I've played several times before in several other RPGs - basically he's a child of a family with a history of service in the Marine Corps who has just graduated high school. Naturally he was looking to join the Corps when he was old enough, so his dad taught him things like camping, marksmanship, fieldcraft, etc, as part of the father-son bonding thing when he wasn't on deployment with the Marines. However he's spent the majority of his time with his civilian mother living off-base that he's not a fish out of water in civilian society. He's not trained up to the level of a proper Marine in combat skills, but he's pretty decent, and a lot better than the average civilian.

My question is, would it be all right for me to run a character like this? Or would I be treading on other characters' toes?

Unless I missed anyone, that's actually 4:5 Males to Females, which seems odd because I swore there were way more guys. So... yeah. Males would actually probably be what we are lacking.

Vergil1989

We almost need more fantasy people if we want to balance that part out from the look of things.  But yeah, we need more dicks instead?  Sheesh, make up your mind there Anon lol.

Example 2

- Jewelry:Necklace from her real father.

Physical traits from her Demonic heritage:
small horns, fangs, prehensile tail, golden eyes

* Race:
Tiefling

* Physical Abilities/Limitations:
Native Outsider, Darkvision, Skilled (particularly in bluffing and stealth), Spell-Like Ability: (Tieflings can use darkness), Fiendish Resistance (against cold,electricity, and fire), Prehensile Tail, graceful, athletic, gymnastics, dance, dexterity, linguistic, blind fight.
She isn't as strong as others so she bases her abilities on subtly, speed and agility. Has to fight the evil that comes from her blood, so she has been known to be quick to anger. And is in a constant struggle against her more unseemly instincts. One of her main limitations is the demonic traits she has from her father. The horns, the golden eyes, and her long pointed tail. So she has to try and keep herself hidden. It mainly why she became what few know as a shadow dancer.

Class:

Rouge/shadowdancer

Special Class abilities:
Shadow Illusion (though she has gained this skill and can only do small illusion at the moment. She is working on making this skill stronger.),Hide in Plain Sight, Survivalist,

Personality;
Runa keeps to herself, stays to the shadows because they feel the safest. Most anyone that sees her instinctively thinks demon and reacts in fear. So she has learned to stay away from people, never staying put in one place long she has never really had a home. She doesn't even know who her mother and father are.

She doesn't trust many people, a few contacts she has made over her life. One of which is a half orc that crafts all of her weapons. An elderly blind cleric that has brought her back from the brink more than once. Runa seems a bit brash or what one would call a smart ass. But they are what she uses to keep people at bay. Simply making a joke when things get to be too much for her. She has been known to be quick to anger, the evil that came from her blood line making some choices much harder than it would be for most anyone else. She keeps herself in check through meditation, and a reminded of each truly evil act she has ever committed.

But Runa isn't all doom and gloom, when she is in her element or with someone she trusts. She is found to be witty and fun loving. Simply wanting to enjoy life and be part of something bigger then herself. Part of her one day wants a home, a family, a place to truly belong.

Background;

Runa was born to a human woman, and a very old Incubus. One couldn't know why he had chosen the female when he did. What drew his eye, what caused him to finally breed instead of simply feeding on the woman? Did he truly love her despite his nature? Or did he simply want a child? No one got a chance to ask, as her mother died at birth. And before her father could come claim her she was stolen away. And hidden from him using his own amulet.

The evil wizard that stole her away having his own plans for the powerful blood that flood through her veins. When she was little Runa was kept as a slave, beaten and ground into submission at a very young age. Her blood used to make the wizard stronger over his many years. She still has nightmares of the daily blood lettings. He would use magic to silence her as he cut into her flesh and let her blood flow into his chalice. And anytime she rebelled or tried to run he would beat her senselessly. The scars one her body reminders of the punishment and torture he would put her through.

Years past and the young woman struggled to find ground. To find a sense of self and the path she should be on. Her body and mind always too tired to ever truly fight back against her Master or so he liked to call himself. But something within her finally bubbled up and snapped. Her master having grown far too confident in his power and control over her. The anger in her grew to a point of uncontrollable fury. And she struck out against him before he could even think to react. The very dagger he used in his magic and to cut into her flesh was what she grabbed. The blade simply grabbed from his alter. Her unheard steps came up behind him, and she slit the man's throat.

She remained there unmoving watching him die, his blood pouring out and pooling around her feet. No remorse or regret filled her stained soul. His final act was one meant to kill her. The release of power sending her flying and impaling her on a pike. And she would have died if it were for the blind cleric that came to her aid. He said his goddess and his sense guided him to her. He saved her live and secreted her away as the chaos of the masters death filtered through his home, and other slaves ran for the hills. He took with him the girl, the dagger in her hand clenched so tight he couldn't pry it from her hands. And the books he himself could not read, but he was told could not be left behind. Evil would use them to their advantage.

It took all the cleric had to keep Runa alive, and months after that to get her to even talk. He started to show her how to adjust to life on her own. How to enjoy the idea of true freedom and how to protect herself. With his help she hid away the books of her old master, sealing it with her blood. He used her blood to gain power, but now her blood would keep others from gaining that power.

As years past she traveled with the Aldric the catfolk Cleric. His village having been destroyed he spent his life traveling and helping people. He had spent enough time hating and avenging his family. Having lost his sight killing the man involved with his family's death. He taught her how to meditate, and to look beyond the anger and rage in her heart. To try and live for the good in life even if you have to try harder to see it. He also taught her a few skills most wouldn't think a holy man would have. The ability to survive with what some may see as unseemly talents. But sometimes you had to steal your food when you couldn't afford any. And who would question a cleric and his young shy charge? He was also the one to give her the name Runa. As her old master never wanted to give her one, thinking it would give her far to much a sense of self.

Along the way they met Borac a Half-Orc, a master weapon smith. Aldric thought it would be good for Runa to meet him. The older Orc having been shunned for what he was. Could understand and see why Runa was so shy. He tried to help her come out of her shell. Yes she may have to hide at times, but that never meant she had to think less of herself. Others may not be able to see it, but she was in fact an amazing young woman. Between the two of her older friends, Runa started to find a sense of self. Started down a path that would hopefully lead her to finding her one true purpose and place.

She spent years traveling with them till she was old enough to go out on her own. Fine tuning her skills, even learning from a guild she came upon once. Runa has become a rather accomplished rogue, he blood making her much more attuned to her chosen class. The shadows came to her aid, and helped her to hide in plain sight of those that would shun her. Today she still travels, and still keeps in contact with her two friends.

Socioeconomic Class/Standing

* Religion: She prays to Mask, and unknown to those around she also prays to Selûne

* Place of Birth: Thay but that is unknown to her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Weapons: Bow and arrow, daggers, short sword, bolas, caltrops

Vergil1989

My town girl could do quite well, hanging with Runa here Curvy, if you're willing of course.  I had thought to make her a monk but after seeing her, I think giving Annabella a backbone would be a lot easier with your gal.

Background:
   Thayla was born to an elf ranger and elf mage. She grew up amongst her 3 other brothers and sister. Thayla was the first born and has always been captivated by her Fathers and mothers adventures that happened before she was born. She accompanied her mother on several excursions to find magical ingredients or research an interesting creature in the area. Thayla’s loves of adventure and innate curiosity lead her to tag along with her father more often as time passed. He trained her to be a ranger but also took Thayla around and introduced her to other communities such as human, dwarf, other elves, half elves etc. Thayla has assumed her role of eldest with a feeling of resignation. Thayla has looked after her younger siblings but at times she would have to put her adventure on hold or training in order to make sure her brother or sister were not getting into trouble.
Luckily Thayla wasn’t forced into any major battles but sadly she has had to help her ffather track down a crimal, trolls or goblins that have caused problems. Thayla learned her art of two handed sword fighting from a half-elf that lived nearby and had adventured quite a bit in the wider world. Instead of settling on a single sword Thayla found her aggressive style was best used trying to strike a blow at every time possible when getting in close.
   Thayla set off on her own a few months ago to do some in depth exploration. Trying to do more than just patrol their lands she wanted to see what other creatures she might be able to uncover and to do some adventuring and perhaps go to one of the nearby cities in order to see what the wider world has to offer. Her adventures so far have led her on a few close calls with slavers, harpies and a goblin. Luckily she has either slipped out or been able to defeat her foes. Still the young elf is continuing her exploration as she moves into a forest that she has yet to explore.

Aww thank you all, I'm glad you all like Runa so much. I can't wait to get both my girls into play.

Vergil I'd love to work something out with your character. Runa may be hard to get to know at first. But that only adds to the fun.

That goes for anyone that wants to work out something with either of my girls. I perfectly open to plotting. Just send me a message.

Considering that Annabella is afraid of people, especially men after what she went through, we have an equal bit of trouble it seems lol.  Still, as you said, that's just part of the fun.  :D

Maybe Runa helps her fight off a minor monster? And Annabella kind of explains her confusion. Runa decides to help her out, meeting some of the others out. She'd be a bit stand offish but Runa would want to help. Have that awkward getting to know each other stuff. :P

Kobolds are the only weak enemies I can easily think of that are actually monster in nature lol.  And confusion?  Annabella is outright afraid of people and seeing one of her DnD monsters/races/etc come to life in at least one form or another will probably make her freak all the more at first lol.  Although seeing her favorite pastime come to life might be quite fun after she gets over the fact they aren't on Earth anymore.  :D

I figured some people will freak out, some people will try and do the being in charge thing, some people will just be utterly confused and so forth. And there can be some dire rats, they always seem to be the classic low level monsters for any of my d&d games. Maybe the sudden bright light scared them out of their hiding places?

IMPORTANT UPDATE as of October 6th 2016 in A/A page

Chaeronea

Okay, my character is almost complete, should be up in the next day or so. Anyway I was wondering with the time of year, would high school still be holding lessons or would it be on some sort of break? My character's 18 years old and I was wondering whether he'd be getting ready to head off to class or whether he'd be enjoying free time? (I'm not from the US so I'm not familiar with how the school year is set up).

According to my character's background his dad is a former Marine who had some experience with the infrastructure rebuilding projects in Iraq and Afghanistan, which he parlayed to get into the construction industry once he mustered out. Anon, would it be possible that it was your character's construction company that my character's dad works for, and as a result our characters know each other in passing?

yesiroleplay

The game is set in the Fall, at the end of the summer school holiday for US students.  If your character is 18, he probably finished high school earlier in the year, around May (spring for us Northerners).
My character is also 18, and would most likely have been in the same class as your character, as she graduated in May and has/had plans to move on to University when the Fall Term begins in just a few weeks.

Chaeronea

Okay, here's my character proposal. Wish me luck...

Russell Davis

Basic Attributes

* Given Name: Russell Kevin Davis

* Nicknames:Rusty (not one he's fond of), Russ

* Gender: Male

* Appearance:
Russell has a lean but athletic build with well-defined muscles. His face is handsome and his mouth is usually twisted in a charming yet mischievous grin. His brown hair is short but usually tousled. His eyes are a smoky grey.

- Age: 18

- Height: 6' 1"
- Weight: 180 lbs
- Hair Color/Style: Dark brown, short but frequently tousled
- Eye Color: Grey
- Makeup: none
- Clothing: Russell usually dresses casually, favouring jeans or cargo pants, work or combat boots and T-shirts. He does own several high-quality suits and formal outfits (for occasions like school prom), but rarely has occasion to wear them.
- Jewelry: None

* Race: Human

* Physical Abilities:

Since he's trained in hopes of becoming a Marine from a young age Russell Davis is quite fit and fast on his feet. (Several of his friends comment that he gets plenty of exercise jumping into situations head-first and pushing his luck). His father has trained him in marksmanship (especially with rifles) and fieldcraft, and his knowledge of survival techniques and hunting has been honed by numerous camping trips. From his hunting he knows how to skin and dress a kill, and has a fair knowledge of how to cook - his meals are not cordon bleu standard but they are edible. Russell has also trained in unarmed combat. Because of his frequent camping trips with his father Russell is moderately competent with first aid. While his sister is a better singer than he is, he can carry a decent tune and can play the guitar rather well.

Personality;

At first glance Russell appears to be a stereotypical American teenager focused on getting decent grades, flirting with cute girls and generally having fun. He's very much a 'live for the moment' kind of guy. Although he knows how to have fun and enjoys cutting loose he is actually rather mature for his age. Russell knows he has a lot more training than most people his age, so he tends to take the initiative and charge ahead unless someone else reins him in. Russell also firmly believes in backing those he feels responsible for to the point of being somewhat overprotective, and while he isn't a bully or thug he feels little remorse about getting into a punch-up with someone who hurts or attacks those he cares about.

Background;

Born the son of John Davis, a US Marine combat engineer, and Robyn Davis, a civilian nurse who retired to become a full-time parent, Russell grew up in a number of different places within the United States as his father was moved around from base to base. He lived in off-base housing with his mother, as his parents wanted their son to have as normal a life as possible rather than pushing him towards a military career. However that didn't stop Russell from deciding fairly early on his own that he wanted to join the armed forces like his father and grandfather - the frequent moves made it harder for him to bond with other children his age, and he relished his father's tales of foreign lands. Russell spent as much time as he could camping, hunting and otherwise bonding with his father when he wasn't away on deployment and, while he cared for his mother, it was clear which parent he took after.

Things changed for the Davis family when John mustered out of the Corps five years ago. He wanted to spend more time with his family - Russell had just turned thirteen and his daughter Isabel was almost eleven - and he had had enough of travelling to far-off places around the world and fighting in many of them. His skills as a combat engineer as well as extensive experience in the infrastructure rebuilding projects in Afghanistan and Iraq made getting a job in the construction industry a piece of cake. However instead of taking a high-paying job with one of the large firms on the East Coast the former Marine packed up his family and moved to a small quiet town where he could spend more time being a father than a worker. He quickly took a job as a site engineer and demolitions specialist with a construction company in town and set about making a life for his family, starting by enrolling his children in the local school.

Some of the locals were a bit concerned about the new arrivals but the Davis children fitted in well to their new school. While their father had made sure Russell and Isabel knew how to defend themselves neither of them picked fights or acted aggressive towards their schoolmates, although they weren't afraid to push back when they were pushed in the playground scuffles that are par for the course for schoolkids. Both of them settled in well and quickly made friends, and set about having relatively normal school lives, although some students found Russell's intensity a bit off-putting. Most of the time he stayed out of trouble, although he did get involved in a few of the more spectacular pranks the local high school has on record. On a more serious note he has been involved in fighting with some of his fellow students, usually while protecting other students from harassment or violence. Despite these blemishes on his school record Russell graduates successfully with high, although not genius-level, marks.

With the close of the school year Russell has taken some time out to relax and indulge in some end-of-school partying with his friends even as he considers his future. John Davis, somewhat mellowed by civilian life, has spent the past several years trying to dissuade his son from joining the Marine Corps out of fear of Russell one day coming home the same way as a number of his buddies in Iraq and Afghanistan - namely, in a flag-draped coffin. Russell doesn't want to make his family worry but he's dreamed of a military career since childhood, and now is seriously considering whether to continue on his path, or change his direction and try for the more mundane path of college and a civilian career.

However the event about to befall his hometown is about to take that decision out of his hands...

I have three words I want to say to you Chaeronea.  DAMN THAT'S EPIC!  Lol ok, I'm good now, but seriously, this is one of the best profiles I've seen on E to tell the truth.  A few of the people here could say the same but you top them easily it seems.  Welcome aboard I say and Jecter would be quite a fool not to allow you into this get together.

You know,  maybe I'm just a fan of micromanagement, but shouldn't ammo be kept track of, since it's going to be something not easily replenished? This being to everybody using/will use a gun.

The real bottle neck with ammo isn't teh bullets or gunpowder. It's the brass casings and primers. Ammo will be limiting but as long as people aren't cutting down tree's with their guns and  are some what conservative it shouldn't be to bad. If you've got a flint lock musket or rifle your good! You can make everything realitively easily!

TheHangedOne

True, that, Maniac. I even once made black powder myself, as part of a science experiment. Pity I couldn't actually use it in my science fair project.

Actually, it's only the primers.  I don't think you can find a semi-rural town in America that doesn't have at least one gun-show-and-garage-gun-dealer or avid hunter that does his own reloading, and as long as you police your brass, you can reload a casing about 6-7 times.  Both black powder and smokeless powder are easy to make as long as you have nitric acid for smokeless, or nitrates and sulfur for black powder.  Nitric acid is an organic acid that's pretty easy to make.  The chemistry and packing of a primer though... that takes more knowledge and equipment than you'll find in a high school chem lab.

Also, bio-diesel isn't that hard to make from either soybean or peanut oil, and one or the other of those crops are grown in every agricultural region in North America.  Keeping a simple (read not fuel-injected or computerized) diesel engine running pretty much forever isn't all that difficult for a decent mechanic.

This certainly looks intriguing to me so I have two questions to ask before I throw out a character sheet.

a) Is this still open for characters? I see the IC thread has been made and I don't see a post saying that sign-ups are closed but I figured I ought to ask anyways.
b) I happened to notice that all of the "native" fantasy characters are women, would it be possible to have native male character (An elf or half-elf though I am undecided on class or occupation but I have an idea or two roaming in my mind).

Vergil1989

We need a ton of male fantasy beings so aye, go for it I say bud.  The recruitment thread is still open and will probably remain open for a good while so yeah, knock yourself.

Unless there's a problem with this, I've kind of impulsively decided to take over since while I know RL is more important and everything, Jecter has proven a little too slow and since I was mostly running this game anyway I as I said, kind of impulsively decided to simply take over as the GM lol.  I kind of feel a bit embarrassed about snapping a bit as I did in the OOC at the moment but I don't want this game to die so soon after starting.  So, without further ado, let's get some more fantasy men out here shall we?  Also, Chaeronae, as I said in the OOC you're good to go bud so feel free to post in the appropriate threads as you need to.  Eversong, as I said once before, we do need more fantasy guys so feel free to draw up a character sheet if you aren't already.

I'm working on it (I decided on an Elf sorcerer). I hope to have it up tonight.

We haven't had a good mage in this game yet so that would be perfect for this Eversong.  And no problem, take whatever time you need bud.

Ah, before I forget to ask, how are we treating magic? Should I make a D&D-esque spell list so everyone has an idea what he can do so there's no "hey, where did that come from" moments later?

Vergil1989

It'd probably be a good idea aye, and really I should probably do that for Neria too now that I'm thinking about it.  Thanks!

IMPORTANT UPDATE as of October 6th 2016 in A/A page

TheEversong

Well, there we go. I think I covered all the bases but let me know if I missed something (my mind does like to wander in the middle of writing sometimes). Also, I don’t have a picture because I am chronically bad at finding images that match the mental image I have for a character. I’ll keep looking and update this if I happen to find one though.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Given Name: Andellian Amastacia

* Nicknames: Andel or just Del (only his closest friends call him that though)
* Gender:  Male

* Appearance
- Age: 149
- Height: 6'2"
- Weight: 172 lbs.
- Hair Color/Style: Medium length blonde hair which tends to simply hang down to slightly beyond his neck. Usually seems unkempt as Andel rarely takes the time to do anything with it during his travels.
- Eye Color: Green
- Makeup: N/A
- Clothing: A simple yet sturdy green tunic, when he actually decides to wear a shirt which is not often, with dark green pants. A brown cloak generally wrapped around his waist so that it flutters behind his legs in what he believes to be a suitably dramatic matter. His short sword sits in its sheath on his back with the hilt peeking over his right shoulder.
- Jewelry:A ring on his right hand with a sapphire gem.

* Race: High Elf

* Physical Abilities/Limitations: Andel is an elf and gets all the racial benefits associated with that. These include: The ability to see normally in low light (like torchlight or moonlight), immunity to magical sleep effects, a higher resistance to enchantment than other races, instead of sleeping an elf can go into a trance for half the time a normal human would and gain the same benefits, and lastly elves have a heightened sight and hearing. Beyond this Andel is just a relatively in shape elf thanks to his travelling.

Andel himself is thin and elegant like most elves and his skin bears a tan that speaks to his long travels in the sun. He has a few scars from either bandits or animals on his body but most are small enough that it would take a second look to notice. He has some muscle to his body, thanks to constant walking and practicing with his sword to keep his skill in top shape, but his reliance on magic means that he never really goes beyond "pretty fit".

Personality; Andel exudes an aura of confidence around himself. He firmly believes that he can outwit or conquer any given target if the need arises. He treats other people he meets with the respect he feels they are due. The only thing that surpasses his confidence in level is his curiosity. Andel has made it his goal to see the world and discover everything it has to offer him.

Andel is usually quick to make friends as a result of his good nature and openness. He likes to have wide array of companions so that he always knows someone no matter where his journey takes him. Andel, when it comes to women, is rarely straight forward with the women he likes. Part of this stems from his wanderlust and knowing that, eventually, he will leave and the other part is from his desire to find someone he sees as his equal.

Background

Andel was born to a ranger and a tailor. His father was a very skilled artisan whose clothes and other wares were considered exquisite. His mother was a master of the sword and a protector of their town. From a young age Andel was found to be a rather curios child who exhibited signs of arcane power. A burnt toy here and mysteriously moved object there and eventually, when he was older, his arcane talents came under his control. It took him the better part of three years to gain control over the basic cantrips that most wizards can master in a single month but once he grasped the basics he quickly expanded his knowledge.

His mother, worried that her son would do something stupid with his newfound power, proceeded to train him with the sword. This swordsmanship served a purpose beyond self-defense; It taught Andel to focus and to control himself under pressure. Though her style of fighting relied on using two weapons to great effect Andel was only able to handle a single sword which he attempted to combine with his potent magics to create his own blend of arms and arcana. He developed a very deep bond with his mother as the trained and he still maintains contact with her by sending letters as often as he can manage.

His wanderlust manifested early in his life. His father always said he had a tendency to roam the town and sometimes just leave to go explore the nearby land. It was during one of his numerous explorations that he ran into his pet and familiar Soar, a hawk. The family debated for weeks and months over allowing Andel to go off on his journey however once he was old enough to be considered an adult by elven standards he left his home.

His parents supported his journey now that he was of age to decide for himself. He set off from home with a Bag of Holding, some money, and a ring from his mother. The ring, which has a beautiful sapphire gem, is enchanted to grant the wearer the ability to understand and speak any language. His mother, father, and sister saw him off at the city gates as he wrapped his cloak around his waist and set off on the journey that has consumed twenty years of his life.

With those items and the sword he had trained with he set off. He spent little time in the lands of the high elves for he wanted to meet peoples different from his own. He eventually made it to the forest where some of the Wood Elves lived. He lived among the forest dwelling elves for a few years. From them he learned how to hunt and live off the land among other things. The most fascinating thing about these elves, in his mind, was their connection to nature that was so similar yet different to Andel's own connection to the arcane.

He proceeded to the human lands once his urge to travel rekindled. There he found many minds as inquisitive as his own. He learned a great deal about his sorcery in his time among the human people. In humans he also found what he believed to be a race that survived based on perseverance alone. For this reason he respects mankind more than other races besides his own kin. In the few years since he left the humans he has tried to live with the same zeal for life that the humans possess.

His current goal is to find even greater sorcerers, perhaps even a dragon, who would be able to teach him more of the arcane arts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socioeconomic Class/Standing

* Class: Wanderer and a Sorcerer, his social class greatly depends on where he happens to have wandered to.

* Religion: He, like many elves, believes in Corellion Larethian though he is certainly not a devout follower.

* Place of Birth: The High Elven city of Dawn's Light.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inventory; A Bag of Holding filled with miscellaneous magical materials for spells he may cast as well as all the necessities (food, water, clothes, etc.). His ring is his only magic item besides his Bag of Holding and it allows him to understand and speak any language so long as he is wearing it (I based this effect off the D&D spell Tongues).

* Weapons: A non-magical but well-made short sword. A few daggers are in his Bag of Holding.

* Misc; He actually does have some very nice silk clothes made by his father but he has yet to have an occasion that called for such a nice wardrobe.

Magic: (I used the 3.5e version of D&D for the spells and treated Andel as a 9th level Sorcerer mainly because I figure his travels have given his enough experience to warrant it but if you think I should scale his casting back then I will)

0(8) - Dancing Lights, Light, Ghost Sound, Touch of Fatigue, Mending, Message, Open/Close, Arcane Mark
1(5) - Magic Missile, Shield, Feather Fall, Disguise Self, Sleep
2(4) - Scorching Ray, Bear’s Endurance, Bull's Strength, Arcane Lock
3(3) - Fireball, Haste, Fly
4(2) - Greater Invisibility, Dimension Door

Vergil1989

Don't worry about the picture and your spells are just fine.  The little I know about D&D comes from 3.5 so that's totally cool by me.  I'm hoping that when the fantasy people start coming into town that my gal gets to meet someone that can help her get past what happened to her finally, and considering she's a huge fan of D&D will just be a bonus after she gets over the shock lol.  Joking aside, it all looks quite well thought out Eversong and I'm happy to have ya.  I could use a Co-GM in all honesty, if someone wants to volunteer it'd be greatly appreciated.

http://www.d20srd.org/ Just as a little side thing, in case anyone isn't familiar with 3.5e Dungeons and Dragons. I figure a link to this website (which basically takes the Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master's Guide and puts it all in one place might be handy). I might get a post for Andel entering the town up tonight but tommorrow will probably be when I get it done, looking forward to jumping in.

Vergil1989

I have a few source books on my hard drive as well which I'll probably be drawing from from time to time but that helps a great deal too Eversong, thanks a ton.  And every one of our fantasy character people have so far held back in introducing their natives but I wouldn't be against the fact that at least our wandering types found their way into town sooner rather than later.  That's just my opinion though.  Anyway, don't forget to add your Andel to the character thread area and get an OOC post up as well.  I might make a new interest thread with a better defined world setting than a simple fantasy generic world as it seems to stand at the moment.  And Eversong, if you'd be willing either you or Hanged if he stays around or both could help Co-GM this thing.  Since we seem to have a few from Toril, the Forgotten Realms and all this talk of D&D it seems we have a somewhat general consensus going for the world to be just that, Toril.  If everyone's cool with that then I'll get things organized in that direction, either well before the Spellplague or after, depending on what people here want.
