This is my application
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heteroflexible
Role Preference: Explosives & Techie

Basic Concept: Riska Danko
Danko’s parents were both career military, members of elite special ops forces who became mercenaries and weapons consultants after leaving the service. Her earliest memories are of learning survival skills, self defense, how to handle weapons, and how to blow shit up. While other kids her age were learning how to bake cookies, she was learning how to make C-4, gelignite, pipe bombs, incendiary devices and to bypass security systems.

When her parents were killed in a mission that went south, Riska went to live with her uncle, a career Naval Officer. Seeking to channel her natural talent for explosives in a more constructive direction, he encouraged her to enroll in the Naval Academy. There she earned a Bachelor of Science in Weapons and Systems Engineering and discovered a love of weapons development. Not content to simply design weapons for the Navy, Danko enrolled in S.E.A.L. training. She has the skills one would expect of a former Navy SEAL: excellent hand to hand combat skills, certification in weapons, demolitions, explosive ordinance disposal (OED), and is qualified in diving, parachuting, combat swimming, and navigation.

When the demons arrived, Danko volunteered to fight them. There was no way she was just going to sit back and let them win.

A bit of an adrenaline junkie, Riska likes to engage in high-risk sports and other activities that challenge her abilities.  She is always pushing herself to her limits and beyond. In that regard, chasing down demons certainly qualifies as ‘high risk.’

So sad you've decided to go with this type of application system.  :(

Interested, but it depends on if what I come up with looks like just a copy of what someone else has already posted.

In situations where I've got to choose over limited slots it's easier to have something to work with beyond "I like this player, this player, annnnd this player." That's all. Everyone is going to build a character anyway, this is just a preview of it.

I've considered some other application systems for limited slots but all of them seem... Terribly unfair to writers. And when presented with the blind pick that no application has, it's not fair to me to have to pick between writers I know and new faces. It's an issue with limited slots, I agree, still working on a more ideal way to handle it.

Yeah, I'm not saying you shouldn't have people create character sheets.  The problem I have is with other players being able to see those character sheets.  It's a competition, supposedly, for a limited number of player spots.  No one she be able to have an advantage by submitting early, or later, yet being able to read sheets and determining what you're up against is an advantage, as is submitting early to try and "lock-in" that character position - like what's already happened, to a degree, with the sniper in this game.

Just my two cents.  To me it takes some of the fun and creativity out of creating a character, as well.

To be fair, nothing is locked in. If someone else wanted, say, the Pilot/Comm/Handler position that I apped for, they could app for it too, and Wispyr would take whichever applicant he felt was better suited for the role. I think (and I could be wrong) that with the sniper thing, Arcannyx may not have seen Kuro's comment about being interested in the sniper and then Kuro, wanting to make sure things stayed balanced, swapped to another specialty. Which isn't a bad thing since there hasn't been a lot of interest shown in the game yet. This way, it also helps to not have overlapping concepts, which can be a bane to a game with only a limited number of slots.

But I do understand what you're saying and where you're coming from though. ^_^

That's exactly what I did, as I had initially thought about both positions, and had two vaguely formed ideas in my head, one for each.

I apologize, I did NOT see anything from Kuro about what he/she/it was looking at.  From dealing with Wispyr in the past, I simply built towards what intrested me, assuming that if more than one came up, he'd go with the idea that was most what he preferred.

Honestly, I just walked off another game for the same issue; I created a character idea, to immediately find out that someone else (who had been posting before me) was creating the same thing, almost down to exactly specs.   So I can do the same here, if that's needed.

yesiroleplay

This must be my application
Gender: Female
Orientation: Orientation?  You mean like a mission briefing?
Role Preference: Gunner

Basic Concept: Victoria "Tory" Garcia
Tory is an L.A. girl, born and raised in the rough neighborhood of Watts by her widowed mother. Her father grew up in the gang culture of the area, but pulled himself out when his girlfriend got pregnant, joining the police force to earn an honest living for his new family.  A beat cop in the Boyle Heights area of Eastern LA, he died during his second year on the job - shot while responding to a domestic dispute.

Not quite two years old at the time, Tory has no real memories of her father.  Still, he influenced her decision to join the LAPD.  She hung with a gang for a while in her mid-teens, but like her father decided to escape the endless cycle of violence and poverty gang life meant.  Some of the things she did and much of the sex she had in those years wasn't strictly by her own choice.  Joining the force was really her first completely independent decision, and she never regretted it.

Her rough background gave her an edge she used as a cop, and she earned a reputation as a rough, tough officer that kept her head and did what needed done when the shit hit the fan.  She drew media attention and the notice of LAPD Headquarters for her actions during a multiple-officer-involved shootout with the robbers of a liquor store.  She put down the three perps armed with sub-machine guns after they'd killed or wounded every officer on the scene, including herself.  Soon after, she was recruited into S.W.A.T. - mostly as a token female, though her training scores and mission results quickly earned her respect from her peers.

She was on the job in April of '19, and was one of the first humans to meet a Hellspawn and live.  In fact, the LAPD officially credited her with a 'kill' when she shot a 40mm teargas grenade down the throat of one of the fuckers.  She wasn't so sure...  Sure the grenade went off and choked the damned thing, and the disbursal charge couldn't have helped its digestion, but it seemed to her that it was still alive when the smoke cleared.  It wasn't like she stuck around to confirm the kill...

No, no. no. Please don't. To be honest, your apping the sniper just gave me the chance to go for the role I realize I preferred. So, you did me a favor :-)

Kadigan

This is my application. Mine. MINE. MINE MINE.

Gender: Female

Orientation: Bisexual

Role Preference: Gunner (Heavy if possible, focusing more on shotguns and grenade launchers)

Basic Concept: Lilja Einardottir

Born to Einar Anarsson and Katrin Viktorsdottir, she was born in a a fairly well to do family. Einar was a geothermal engineer supervisor which afforded her a good education, taking English as a second language. She didn’t instantly know what she wanted to do as a child, but spending more and more time with her uncle Magnus a member of the Icelandic National Police, she slowly grew to respect and idolize him, and soon joined up herself.

It took a few years after joining the INP, but eventually was selected for the Sérsveit ríkislögreglustjórans (Special Unit of the National Police Commissioner) affectionately known as the Víkingasveitin (Viking squad). While there she served with distinction, focusing mainly on learning the ins and outs of heavier weapons, favoring an older model Armsel Striker. They saw smaller amounts of action compared to some anti-terrorism groups, but what they did see they took down hard and fast.

When the Hellgates opened in 2019 she was among the candidates put forward by her commander for selection. With the absolute flood of candidates however, it wasn’t until mid 2020 that her name was finally selected

She can be a bit silly and goofy at times, running her mouth in times of nervousness and in times of unnervousness as well. She knows when to be quiet and do her job however, and shut up, mostly.

Our current list of applicants. Still would need a medic & biochemist before we could consider getting rolling. We'll wait to see what attention the game gathers in the next couple of days (by end of weekend, most likely) and I'll make some choices based on that.

Elysian Radiance : Pilot/Comms/Handler

This is my application. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Gender: Male
Orientation: Hetero
Role Preference: Pilot/Comm/Handler

Basic Concept: Jasper "Fate" Lafayette
Fate came from a long line of militarists on both sides of his family. Hell, that's how his parents met in the first place. It was the classic tale of soldier meets nurse, nurse patches soldier up, soldier asks nurse out, and then they get married. But that's really neither here nor there. The expectations were no different with Fate. From a young age, he showed active interest in the military. He actually requested to be sent to a military academy upon entering junior high school; he was sent to Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA, just 70 miles from his home in Washington, DC. In addition to his studies, he participated in swimming, track and field, the flight program, and the honor guard program, as well as learning Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic. He graduated a year early at the top of his class and immediately enlisted in the Air Force at age 17.

While he wasn't deployed for most of the action in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, he was able to get involved in the tail end of things, spending his first tour of four years in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. He quickly found that his aptitude fell with the Communications, IT, and Intelligence sector and began to pursue a career path as an intelligence officer. With the rise of the internet and more specifically, the deep web, Fate returned to the States and began working on several operations to halt and take down drug rings, human trafficking, and child pornography.

Once the Hellgates began, he was one of the first to volunteer for defense against the demons, however he was not one of the chosen for SERAPH. Instead, he took to local defense with the military in DC and began to research and study these demons and Hellgates every chance he had, even going so far as flying across the world on a moment's notice just to learn more or if he arrived in enough time, fight against the hellspawns.

Arcannyx : Sniper & Specialist

This is my application.  Or is it?
Gender: Male
Orientation:Heterosexual
Role Preference: Sniper & specialist.

Basic Concept:Alexander Tremayne.

One shot, one kill.  Some say he's lazy.  He doesn't talk much, always seems to be moving slowly, looking bored.  Couldn't be further from the truth.  He's efficient.  When he talks, he makes his words count.  When he shoots, he shoots like bullets are an endangered species.  For the most part unassuming, he was originally going to be trained in infiltration and wetwork, however when the Archangels were introduced, it was realized that being sneaky doesn't mean shit to demons. However, talent is talent, and they weren't about to waste it.

Kuroneko : Explosives & Technie

This is my application
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heteroflexible
Role Preference: Explosives & Techie

I can work up a medic if the lack of one ends up holding us up.

*raises hand* I was looking at medic actually.
But do they have to be a Biochemist too? I don't know much about biochemists. But medics always intrigue me. :3
I can whip up a bio tonight or tomorrow.

I need at minimum 2 gunner slots filled as well - so while this might help, it just shifts the focus of need. Thank you though!

This is one of those things that's left to the player but the medic is also responsible for the researching of the demons and dealing with the beyond 'rawr rawr attacking' that they may employ. So it's an area that can't be entirely left unhanded through the game - and since the medic's role is often limited in times it can shine this is something that gives them something else to do beyond applying bandaids :P

This may require the use of google on my part yeah?
I'm still interested.
This makes a lot of sense. Im simply wondering if I should have the character be a combat medic that became involved in researching about the demons somehow. Like maybe a few attacked her unit and they were able to down it, after several of her friends fell. Becoming curious maybe she starts her research there? Then was recruited for some of her knowledge?

This is my application and I stitched it together with demon guts
Gender: Female
Orientation: Pansexual
Role Preference: Medic & Biochemist

Basic Concept: Lean McCalister

Oh all you do is apply bandaids huh?
Lean hated such comments, especially after she'd been in the army going on her fourth year and she still heard them. Since she was a kid, she'd found a fascination in the medical field, she'd contemplated becoming a doctor, but then her father came home from a tour with a missing leg and PTSD during her freshman year. She hadn't seen her father in so long, but she was so very proud of him. When she graduated, actually a few days before she had, she enlisted. She wanted to help people like her father, people who were just out there keeping the world safe, she wanted to keep them safe so that they could do what they did best.

When the Hellgates opened in 2019, her unit was sent to Los Angeles, to try and kill the bastard that were killing the civilians there. Unfortunately some of her unit was lost, though try as she could to save them, she couldn't. It was only when the F-19's flew in did the Hellgate vanish, for the moment, yet demonic bodies still lay upon the ground. Curious and angry, Lean began poking at one, prodding at it until she found out more about it than she probably wanted to know.

:( With this kind of game, backgrounds will probably end up feeling a tiny bit redundant simply because of how the characters background needs to be.
But hey, Im sure once the game gets started the characters wont feel as similar or anything like that.
