This world is called Caribdus.  It is home to many people both foul and fair.  Winged Atani, deep diving Doreen, gregarious Grael, ravenous Kehena, sorcerous Kraken, Vicious Ugak, curmudgeonly Scurillians, and most of all a colorful and iconic human like people called Masaquani.

It was a good world.  No paradise of course, there were crimes and wars.  There were villains and there were heroes.  Arts and Sciences progressed at a reasonable pace, and for those not satisfied with mundane crafts and tools magic could bend the very elements to an enlightened will.

There was dark magic too.  Curses, necromancers, monsters.

Then, thirteen years ago, the rain started.  The unnatural tempest raged for months, the result of the dying curse of three sorceresses fell and fair.  Only the murder of a righteous king ended the rain, but that sacrifice brought the three sorceress back to unlife as the Sea Hags.

The cataclysm their curse created has drowned much of Caribdus, raising the sea by 50 fathoms.

As the world reels from this apocalyptic storm, new heroes and villains enter the scene.  Ships setting sail from a different world, Earth, have found themselves drawn into the mist by a ghostly weeping maiden only to emerge on Caribdus.  These newcomers have come in some numbers, from all over their world and across a span of several centuries.  they have brought with them new weapons with which to fight the undead legions of the Sea Hags.  Canons, muskets, pistols.

Will these newcomers save us?  Will we save ourselves?  Only one thing is clear.  If good people do nothing, evil forces will rise to consume what is left of our drowned world.

*   *   *

Admiral Morgen Amargo lost much in the storm.  His nation—never a part of a major Masaquani empire—was drowned completely when the water rose.  He got what of his people he could to safety, but only his second son survived the flooding of the land.  That man, Marten Amargo, was lost at sea 7 years ago, exploring a great Sargasso where the Sea Hags sent the dead against the living.

Morgen searched there for his son for many months.  All he found was ghost ships and a single living being, a ten year old Newcomer girl, defending herself from the Dead with the sword and pistol of her fallen father.  Morgen adopted the girl and named her his heir, taught her all he could of sailing and fighting.

Now that Morgen has retired, he has given his daughter his ship—a strong war galley armed with Newcomer’s guns—and charged her to gather a crew of maidens.  “Continue my work.  Explore our reshaped world.  Chart the seas.  Grow strong, find treasures and weapons.  Make the world strong to stand against the Sea Hags.”

*   *   *

In the depths of a distant ocean, a lecherous lord, warrior and wizard, lifts a great sunken ship to the surface.  He, too, seeks to unite the world against the Sea Hags.  He too seeks weapon and treasures.

   But the peace he offers.

   Is the peace.

   Of the sword.

Races of Caribdus

   Anyone still with me?  *Smiles*

Fifty Fathoms is a setting for the game Savage Worlds—a pen and paper RPG designed for use in theoretically any pulp-genre setting.  Other settings published for this game include Deadlands, Rifts, Solomon Cane, an ice age fantasy who's name I can't remember and something fairly recognizable as inspired by A Princess of Mars.

For this particular campaign, I don't want to focus too much on the core drama of the setting—the Sea Hags—but rather exploring a changed world and while dealing with an evil overlord who has taken the existence of the Sea Hags as an excuse to unite the world under his thumb to stand against them—while claiming as many maidens for his own as he can in the process.

I hope to have some sexy fun with things too, from the tender affections of the crew for one another, to lecherous legions of terror and strange monstrosities forced up from the deeps, to the lusts of the evil overlord himself.

The savage worlds system is fairly simple and straightforwards.  I'll offer whatever help I can in building the characters and teaching the game.

Karasu

SEEKING Undertale/Deltarune RP, PM to discuss details.

Muse

*Grins* I'd be very excited to have you!

Let's see if we can get 1-2 more.

Lynx will be playing our Visitor (human) captain.

Allanger and Sethala have also expressed interest via PMs.  (Well, skype specificly.)  But I don't have any charactre concepts from them yet.

Along with normal rolls found on ships in an Age of Sail story, one or two people versed in elental magic would be useful too.

Starting magicians only know one element--the traditional earth/air/fire/water.  (Water magic is expecialy useful for healing, air for helping a ship with favorable winds.  Earth has the more powerful defensive spells, fire the more powerful offensive ones.)  A more advanced magician can learn aditional elements, though it puts their magic at a small penalty as the elements war it out within them.  An arcmage--mastering all four elements--looses those penalties.  There's only one known to be alive in the world today, a reclusive Masaquani sorcreerss.  It's also whispered that some of the kranken arcmages may have survived the destruction of their fleet.

I have a theoretical knowledge of Savage Worlds. And I like pirates! If you're still taking players, I'm happy to put my name forward.

Muse

Would love to have you, Clonker.  :)   (And welcome to E.)

I've got a few more concepts now.

Karasu's girl is going to be a masaquani, ship's cook and surgeon.

Alanger's girl will be a gunslinger and gunsmith.

CarnivalOfTheGoat

Hi! Posting interest for backup half-Ugak woman who likes to go clubbing.

Which edition of SW are you using?

My O/Os. My A/As.
Games I seek:
Savage Worlds of My Little Pony <- Just what it says. Free supplement for SW. (Or any other MLP RP!!! :D)
Eclipse Phase <- Posthuman grit SF, open source, downloadable from their web site. VERY deep worldbuilding.
Cold City <- Espionage meets the Lovecraftian supernatural. Allies in post-war Berlin chasing down the results of secret Nazi experiments
a|state <- Post-apocalyptic sort-of-steampunk, sort-of-high tech roleplay in a massive, decaying, broken-down city-state.

Hi Carney!

I have the SAvage Wrolds Deluxe Editon, but my 50 fathoms says Explorer's Edtion.

Not sure if that's going to get me confusled or not.

Exlporer's Edition actually refers to the size of the physical book. It's a smaller, more compact version, and it's also the most up-to-date, compatible with SW Deluxe.

The first run of 50 Fathoms used the previous edition of SW and the rules are slightly different.

CarnivalOfTheGoat

Yeh, I don't have Deluxe or Explorers. But I'm just on the bench anyway.

If it becomes necessary, we can probably sort out the differences.
