So the first season is finished ~and what a first season!

Anyway, so I'd be interested in playing a Game of Thrones inspired RP, I was thinking base it at a similar point the series started with the game largely revolving around the King's search for a new Hand and all the politics that tends to go around. I'd encourage custom characters, but for a degree of ease in putting ourselves in their shoes and filling what needs feeling leaves the Houses themselves in place or at least some of the major houses (House Stark, Lannister & Baratheon) with perhaps a touch more flexibility on smaller houses.

So is there an interest in such a game? If there is....let us forge it!

House Baratheon: Lord (King)/Lady/-
House Lannister: Lord/-/-
House Stark: Lord/Lady/-
House Greyjoy: Lord/Lady/-
House Tully: Lord/Lady/Heir

Interest for thus far:
Lady Lannister ~ Absinthe Tori
Stark Heir ~ Primarch
Baratheon daughter ~ Karlissa
King's Landing Whore ~ RedEve
Greyjoy Heir ~ TheHangedMan
Lannister Heir ~ mainsnoires

I'd imagine for each family we can have their current head, the wife, heir and other children, members of their court, knights, the Kingsguard and other individuals who are involved.

What would you pair be interested in?

TheHangedOne

I'd rather play a unique character, as I feel like I can never do an already created character justice.  Probably a body guard for one of the Lords/Ladies.

My tentative interest is because I like Game of Thrones, so I think it has potential, but the finer details are still pretty nebulous; I can't really dedicate to it yet, though I am dedicated to watching it develop and maybe contributing a bit to that process, if that makes any sense.

Oh I have no interest in there been canon/created characters. I'd totally encourage custom characters, I'd only think using some established families to frame the game, give us roles to fill without all the land and power in the game being a free for all for customs to claim at will.
But if you have any input feel free!

I think that's way too many people involved, it's going to be nearly impossible to find enough players who actually remain active to fill even the primary roles there, let alone secondary and tertiary. I'd be more interested in something smaller scale for the simple reason that it would have better chances of actually taking off. Don't take that as me trying to make you change your idea or anything, it's just a suggestion and nothing more.

Makes sense to me. If people are interested beyond the primary roles we can open up the secondary stuff and more.

If you take the major roles for granted it would be easier to run the game as background to the main plot, I'd think. It would require the players to all know the existing story, at least for whatever time period the RP takes place, but considering how much action was going on in the riverlands alone during the war it wouldn't be hard to just run some mercs and smallfolk while the Houses do their thing off-screen.

Ignoring the main characters entirely, save where the RP directly intersects with scenes from the series, seems like it'd be the easiest way to run a game in that setting. On paper, at least. Just a thought. ^.^

That's an idea , but then you miss the courtly politics that I think made the show great, which is why I'm trying to orchestrate a custom character AU of sorts. Although really I'm not against that either, I've just got a GoT muse I'd like to enjoy,

Zealously Jaded

I'm interested. I think that it would be an interesting concept to base a rp on :)

Primarch

Assuming we were to currently limit options to some of the Great Houses, these being
House Baratheon (the current Royal Family, now seeking a new Hand to the King)
House Lannister (them rich folk!)
House Stark (Wardens of the North!)
House Greyjoy (of the Iron Islands)
House Tully (Rulers of the Riverlands)

Who/what positions would people be interested in claiming?

Zealously Jaded

Ohhhh don't make me choose! lol I think if I'd have to pick I'd be a Lannister! If that's alright :)

Well I put you down for the Lannister Lady, assuming that's what you want. Once a few more are claimed I'll put up a character sheet.

Zealously Jaded

Lannister Lady would be great...thank you :) I don't think I should ever let my male side out...it's dark.

Okay, so wait a minute...I'm a bit confused. We are playing as the canonical characters, or we are creating new characters to replace the canonical ones?  ???

Creating characters to replace canons, the family name will be the same, with perhaps some traits, like the Lannisters are rich, the Stark's are Lords of the North, but the character themselves are your own creation. Consider it an AU.

TheHangedOne

Okay. This sounds like fun.  :-) I'll probably make a Stark boy. Much respect for the Wardens of the North.

Fancy making Lord Stark himself? I was going to take up the Heir, you can be my pa : D

Holy shitballs Primarch!

TAKING MY IDEA! Hating you....I'm kidding of course. GoT RAWKED...and the fact it was so close to the book just made me in awe. I notice though you have no House Targaryen.. how dare you!  ::)

If you add that..IF I can be Daenerys...I'd love to play.

As awesome as Drogo is, the number of houses and settings in the game means that even if we had half a dozen players they could be so spread out it makes interaction hard. A different country as Daenerys is in brings up this risk more then others I'm afraid. :/

So we are using existing houses but creating custom characters for them? Would this be set before or after Martin's books or just completely separate from them?

If they are completely original, does this mean we could make them completely against type? The Stark Patriarch being a scheming, untrustworthy sort and the Lannister house leader being an honorable man?

Its the existing houses with custom characters for them, yes. The timeline will be roughly where the series starts off, that being the death of the Hand of the King. However, unlike the series/book the King won't have a particular go to guy, instead we'll all scheme, plot & appeal for the position.

I just realised that I'd totally forgotten the heir had to be male in this universe, so could you sign me up instead for one of the Baratheon children, a girl of about 18? Sorry for the mess up on my part!

TheHangedOne

My own Stark son will be a bit of a wild child, prone to just disappearing on misadventures with his ever faithful Dire Wolf companions. He might very well end up visiting your character, Red; multiple times.

I think this'll about do it. Any changes I need to make, let me know.

Name: Lanse Greyjoy
Position: Heir of House Greyjoy
Appearance:

Attire: Simple, loose fitting gray tunic and pantaloons, soft leather boots and gloves are his usual attire when he's not in armor. He also typically wears a red bandanna, and depending on the weather, a short cloak (comes down to his knees) that's dyed crimson.
Armour: Preferring to wear armor that allows him to  stay mobile while offering protection, he makes use of leather lamellar armor.
Weapon of Choice: Lanse has shown a great deal of martial expertise, and he often carries a shortbow with him (and a quiver of arrows for it), as well as a broadsword.

Personality: Lanse has always been a wild child; he's difficult to control, choosing to march to the beat of his own drums, choosing to always do what he wants (though this often coincides with what others want, thankfully for his family). In addition to this, he tends to be quite carefree and boisterous. Perhaps because of a dangerous arrogance in his own skills, his usual response to the threat of danger is to laugh and tackle it head on.
Ambitions: lanse doesn't have grand ambitions. He just wants to enjoy his life, to live it the way he wants to.
Virtue: Can not abide bullying, although he noticeably has no issues with harassing people that are, themselves, bullies.
Vice: Women and wine, my friend, women and wine, the two best things in the world, are they not? And a good fight is great, too!

Backstory: While most would be overjoyed to be born into a ruling family and to be prepped for rulership themselves, Lanse has always hated this. A rebel at heat, as a child, he'd often throw off his stuffy clothes and tromp around the castle naked, unaware of just how upsetting that could be to others.

As a teenager, he often took to disappearing and going off "On an adventure!" When he should have been learning (although his teachers eventually learned that the best way to teach him was to humor him and do it by horse back, while riding around the Iron Isles).

At the very least, his father was glad to see that he was a competent warrior, as any Ironborn should be.  In fact, he took to combat, both ranged and melee, quite eagerly, and the prospect of being able to duel with some of the strongest men in their army has often been incentive to make him toe the line (if only for a while), and act as a lordling should.

When he was about Twenty-two and adventuring around the North, he discovered a starving dire wolf pup. The mother had probably been killed, and the baby had been unable to hunt for himself yet. Taking pity on the animal, as he is known to do, he gave it water to drank, and meat to eat from his own supplies.

It would be a lie to say that Misericorde is tamed, however, Lanse seems to be able to keep it in control; having saved its life, it is fiercely loyal to him, and this, combined with his own strange abilities, makes it seem as if the two have a psychic bond.

He is in King's Landing at this time to honor his father's request and represent House Greyjoy (though it's mostly his adjutants helping him get things done). About the only reason he even wanted to go was because it had been one of the few places in the Kingdoms he hadn't explored yet.

...Besides, he's heard good things about the women there. And the wine.

Other details: Lanse is gifted with an interesting empathy with animals. He understands them intuitively and is able to communicate with them in a crude fashion. Some people choose to call him "Beastlord" because of this (combined with his personality). He travels in the company of a young adult dire wolf named "Misericorde", and two ravens named "Zephyros" and "Boreas".

I'll get my CS up soon, I'm just on the train on the way back from Merry Old London!

I was wondering... since there is no Lannister Lord. I was going to have my character single...or even widowed and returned to her family since she was childless... tell me what you think :)

RedEve

Name:Catharina
Position: Upper-class whore for the elite in King’s Landing
Appearance:

Attire: The finest and flimsiest outfits gold can buy, though the aim is not to wear them too long, obviously
Armour: nothing but her wit
Weapon of Choice: Mind and body, not necessarily in that order

Personality:Sharp, driven, ambitious. She has no qualms about using people to improve her position. Powerful men have used her to get information out of rivals, but she is loyal to no one but herself.
Ambitions:Accumulate enough wealth to live in luxury for the rest of her life.
Virtue:eagerness and determination when it comes to pleasing her clients
Vice:arrogance, overconfidence, jealousy and disloyalty

Backstory:Catharina’s story isn’t that different from hundreds of other children in King’s Landing. She was orphaned at a very young age. She survived as a street rascal for a few years. One day she tried to pick the wrong man’s pocket and was arrested for thieving. Normally she would have been arrested never to be heard of again, but a local entrepreneur bribed one of the guards to buy her freedom. Or rather, he bought her slavery. Her savior was also the owner of one of the biggest brothels in the city. He catered to both the paupers and very wealthy, and everyone in between and had girls for every social class. Catharina was trained in the arts of seduction and pleasure until she lost her virginity to her first client at age 16.

Four years later, her master was assassinated, and the slaves and whores he had collected over the years were sold off. All but a few, including Catharina. She managed to have one of her more powerful clients proclaim her a free woman. Since that day, she has been catering to the ultra-rich and mega-powerful as an independent whore. She hopes her coveted cunny will allow her to gain such wealth that she can retire and live in opulent luxury for the rest of her life.

If those who have CS sheets up care to start be all means do. Until we have a King the intended plot can't really start, but there's no reason people can't begin the RP itself. I have nothing against the life and times of a Fantasy Lord & Lady.

In which case, may I politely suggest that anyone who still has a hankering for some GoT action read this thread?

It's an ongoing interest check, but we're coming to some firmer decisions now.

As it was left, we were just discussing one of two options for the starting plot. You can keep any character profiles you may have already worked on, they may only need to be tweaked to fit in.

Primarch

Apologies for not getting something up, I've been both busy and uninspired. But Ramael seems to have something more definate in order, so if people want to join that game by all means do so. I certainly wouldn't hold it against you, dare I say it I'd be rather relieved to pass the reigns of being the game head of an RP. Will likely throw a character in myself to that game, once I have my head on straight.

Ramael

Likewise apologies for poaching in your thread, I just thought it might make sense for the two to combine.

However as stated in my thread I was looking for someone to help me set up/run the entire thing...if you don't feel like running one by yourself how do you feel about co-GM'ing with me?
