So I am a sucker for World War 2 - every aspect of it. The very first game I ever GM'd had over 2000 posts to it over the course of one mission. I am looking to recreate that sort of game with the following.

This will ONLY work with a dedicated group of skilled writers. I need at least 6 Players to fill in the squad. I will allow up to 8 players to join. Here is a tentative list of roles needed (with names filled in to make it look better). The Mortar Team Leader + Assistant will be available if 8 people show interest in joining the game:

Red Roles Are Taken

504th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division
Special Action Detachment
Captain S. McDriver, M Company CO
Major T. Burns, Regimental Liason

1st Squad, M Coy
Staff Sgt. Peter Simon Squad Leader
Cpl. Jesse Welsh Assistant Squad Leader, Guide
PFC Christopher Sloan Sniper
Pvt. Daniel "Stick" Maczek Rifleman
Medic Craig McDonald Medic
PFC Adam "Soth" Johnson Rifleman
Pvt. Richard Nailor Bren Gunner Rifleman
Pvt. Richard Matthews Mortar Team Leader
Pvt. Fredric Grant Smith Mortar Team Assistant

2nd Squad
----------
Sgt. John Heeney, Squad Leader
Lnc. Cpl. Johnathon Flemmings Assistant Squad Leader
Medic Andrew Ma Medic
Pvt. Bob Lee Swagger BAR Trooper
Pvt. James "Stump" Stumplawitz Bazooka team leader
Pvt. Joshua B Peterson Bazooka Team Assistant
PFC Mortan Blade Rifleman
Pvt. Tadek "Vooda" Kowalski Rifleman

3rd Squad
----------
Sgt. David Antonelli Squad Leader
Cpl. Anthony "Nino" Vitelli Assistant Squad Leader
Pvt. Eric Middendorf Rifleman
Pvt. George S. Kitteridge Rifleman
PFC Thomas Mallory Rifleman
PFC Scott Weagner Machine Gun Team Leader
PFC Sean MacDermott Assistant Machine Gunner

Quote from: Captain Scott McDriver"Everyone here must have done something very right or very wrong to end up in this unit. Regiment has been working with the OSS and the SAS to build a Special Action Detachment here in the 82nd. Several months ago, we put out call for the toughest sons-of-bitches in the Armed Forces from all our Allied countries. The idea is to assemble a group of troopers from the US and Great Britain, from Canada and Australia, heck, from all over the place -- and to see if these men can fight together as a unit. We are going to be tackling some tough missions, so we requested proven soldiers that were self-reliant, intelligent, and mean as hell. And,to be blunt about it, your names came up. So you all should be very proud to be here. But don't start patting each other on the back just yet -- we've got a long road ahead of us, and some tough times. I'm going to introduce you to Grant Gamble -- he's my executive officer and is platoon leader for first platoon. He is going to read off your platoon assignments."

The original game was platoon-sized, with a few PCs in each squad allowing for NPC Cannon Fodder. Using a simplified rules system to determine combat, the original game had something like a 75% Casualty rate (KIA and WIA) but that was mainly due to a surprise appearance by a Panzer Grenadier Unit complete with a Panzer ^-^

It might be more logical to split the PCs in this one up into two squads to allow for some NPC Cannon Fodder, but those sorts of details can be worked out later. For Combat and the like, I will draw up some ugly looking maps and overlay a grid on them, marking player positions and enemy positions as best I can for a little more 'realism'.

So, if INTERESTED, please POST HERE!

Please PM me all character sheets. Do not post them here!

This looks like a awesome idea for a game. What are you looking for specifically in terms of writing? Such as post length and the like.

MagicalPen

I will be looking for 6 - 8 lines per post. One-liners are never acceptable in any games I play in and part of the combat system in this game depends on how well written your actions are...open ended actions, but actions nonetheless. Given the nature of the game and the era, and the millions of pages of stuff written about the era, i expect people to have a firm understanding and knowledge of items etc.

Alrighty then. In that case count me in. I'd be interested in playing the sniper.

there are times when a change of direction is for your highest good. It takes courage to change direction. Choose the path your heart agrees with and walk with your head high and your eyes open. Don't be afraid.

Sniper role is already taken (by me of course!).

And Medic can be yours, JM. At this point, only accepting Male Characters. UNLESS - and I need some input here - we allow some French Resistance Fighters to partake? Women were obviously not accepted into the Combat Military Roles during this period though many of them did fight in Le Resistance in France or acted as Spys. So you'll have to come up with a good reason why a French Women of the Resistance is not in France anymore ^-^ Otherwise you'll have to play as a dude :P

My grandmother was a nurse in WWII and both of my grandfathers were in it as well. I can come up with a male character, and with the medical training I've got, the Medic role shouldn't be too much of a problem for me. :-)

What kind of layout do you want for a character profile?

And just an FYI - No Russian Characters.

This will strictly be Western European Countries (Poles, UK[Canada, NZ, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Wales], USA, France...) so base your characters Nationalities off of that.

Being a WW2 enthusiast myself and having actually used them (that was one hell of a weekend) I'd be interested in the Bren Gunner or Bazooka role. But I guess Bren Gunner is the most sufficient, seeing as we haven't started filling up 2nd Squad yet.

So yeah, totally interested.

Name and Rank: PFC. Connor "Paddy" O'Feaghail
Age: 20
Nationality:Irish-American
Profession: Sniper
Picture: (See Left)
History: Connor was born first-generation in the American Mid-West. His Irish-Immigrant Parents had decided to travel West out of Boston in search of rich farmland and had settled in a small community in the Mid-West. Connor spent his youth running around on the farm and getting into all sorts of mischief, while also learning how to hunt and shoot a rifle. Times were hard of course so often times the animals he killed were consumed for dinner. It also quickly taught him how to track animals and use stealth and camouflage to get as close to them as he could before making a kill shot.

When War in Europe had broken out, Connor had no idea. Events on such a grand scaled halfway across the World had no impact in his small farming town. No one cared so no one knew. However, the events of December 7th, 1941 quickly shook the nation to the core and Connor already considered himself as American despite his very Irish parents. He saw joining the military as a good way to accomplish something in his life and get out of the dead-end town he was living in. A short bus ride to a larger nearby city allowed him to witness a Recruiter come to town and he quickly volunteered himself for the Airborne. The added Danger Pay was certainly appealing.

Through basic training, it quickly became apparent that he was by far the best Marksman in the unit and had the patience and skills to become the platoons sniper. His squad affectionately call him 'Paddy' (since he is Irish) and he has learned to rely on them a they rely on him.

Proficiencies: Camouflage, Crawling, Expert Marksman, Scouting

Name and Rank:Medic Natalia Olga (Nat or Nate for short)
Age: 17
Nationality: Russian-American
Profession: Medic
History: Joined the military straight out of high school, and thought of herself as Joan of Arc. She learned how to put on bandages and splints, how to make injections, etc. She was even taught to crawl flat on the ground. At that time the militia units were being formed in Moscow. She was sent to a rifle company of a DNO division as a medic ("saninstructor"). Many of her schoolmates one grade younger were also there. The males were sent to regular units. Her duty was to bring the wounded from the battlefield and provide them with primary medical care. But the main thing was just to bring them out.
Proficiencies: She had three line rifles. Those machine guns that she received later, they didn't shoot at all. They broke when they got water or sand in them. She was equipped very badly. The regular army units differed a lot. Their weapons were better. They were better trained in war science. And then, their clothing: even officers were poorly dressed, dressed uncomfortably. She wore puttees, those heavy kirza boots (a high boot using an impregnated tarpaulin fabric in lieu of leather) came only in the end of '42. She received these boots in the spring, when her "valenki" felt boots were so soaked with water that you couldn't move.
Anything else you'd like to tell me?: I'm basing a lot of this character off of some information I found on the internet. The female is the first picture in the character sheet, but I thought the second one looked very similar to the first one, and added it to the profile. I'm using some of their written history as my information for their character sheet even tho they weren't Russian-American. I combined the two ladies names for my character's name in honor of them.

Jayden has decided to leave, so the Medic Position is still up for grabs.

For those of you still there, since this game will virtually have no focus on sexual elements, how would you feel about possibly having a Brothel included in the Mission Objectives? A sort of inadvertent 'escort' role for the Paratroopers - helping the girls of 'questionable' calling to safety? It could be evolved into something greater, where the 'whores' possess some sort of secret information that needs to be passed onto the Brass whom have no idea about their revelation.

Name and Rank: Ignatius "Iggy" Carder, Pvt
Age: 20
Nationality: American
Profession: Rifleman
Picture:
History: Iggy grew up in mid-western America and was eighteen when Pearl Harbor was attacked. His father had served in World War 1 as a teen and luckily survived. Wanting to follow in his father's footsteps Iggy went to the nearest recruiting station after school and signed up. His ship out day was the day he graduated from high school, which was a month away. In that month Iggy did as much physical preparation as he could. Seeing that he was good in school and a bit of an athlete he was assigned to Airborne Infantry for his profession. He didn't know much about Airborne Infantry since it was a new concept but he kept an open mind about it.

Boot camp was nothing like he'd ever experienced. The yelling, the almost constant physical training, it was all a shock to him at first. There were times when he thought about quitting but he'd came to serve his country and follow in his father's footsteps which made quitting not an option. He demonstrated great skill on the rifle range and in hand to hand combat. He volunteered to learn basic German, in case a translator was ever needed for prisoners. After months of hard training Iggy finally graduated from boot camp a member of the 82nd Airborne, though only a Private in rank. He was given a unit and shipped off to the base where his unit was stationed.
Proficiencies: Marksman (though not good enough to be a sniper), hand to hand combat, Bi-lingual (can speak basic German).
Anything else you'd like to tell me?: Let me know if anything needs to be altered and I'll make the changes. Other than that I look forward to the game.
