Okay, so a friend of mine gave me a couple of his original Xbox games that I really enjoyed playing, or wanted to try out.  Problem is, I have a 360 and not an original.  But, a bunch of friends on a gaming site I go to told me you can play original games on the 360 with a special update.  Problem is, I don't have an ethernet connection where I live, so I don't have Xbox LIVE.  So, I've been following the official website's instructions on how to try and transfer the update...

Nothing.  Absolutely frickin' nothing is working.  And I'm just about to tear my 360 in two, or call up Microsoft and demand to know who the hell decided on this piece of bullcrap.

For anyone out there with a 360, and knowledge of how to help...

HELP.

PLEASE.

I don't know how tight money is right now for you, but an original Xbox console is anywhere between $20 - $40.  They are at their cheapest because of the new generation and everybody selling their console to upgrade.  It's pretty easy to find one at a used game store or just go to Amazon and buy one from them.

You can solve the entire problem by just buying one and you won't have anymore problems right now.

But, for some help, here is a Wiki article about the compatibility of some games and some help.

I just found out two things about backwards compatibility.

1 - Microsoft discontinued 360 support for original games on April 15.

2 - The backwards compatibility section on Xbox.com was last updated in March.

I know that normally, you aren't supposed to double-post in threads, but I'm going to do it just this one time.

Upon gathering new information, I've found I have the following options.

1 - Go refund the money I spent on 1st gen Xbox games, and buy the new Red Dead Redemption.

2 - Refund money, buy Halo ODST.
Apparently this is akin to telling your mother that you've been reading porn since you were twelve, and where your stash is - not good.

3 - Don't refund money, buy used 1st gen Xbox, keep the games (Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow & Chaos Theory).

Opinions?

Whichever options you choose I must implore you to not by Halo: ODST, since you dont have XBOX live you'll be throwing your money away

Okay.  Good to know...you're either the second or third person who's said that (the others were in another thread), so I'll cross it off.

It's between two choices?  Good.  Then here's a little trick to help shortcut the decision-making process:

Flip a coin.

Don't assign choices to heads and tails.  Leave those unassigned.  Then, flip a coin, and when you see the results, you should instinctively prompt yourself to make a choice when you see them.

Alternatively, go ahead and assign choices.  Flip the coin.  If you feel the slightest inclination to go 'two out of three', choose the one that didn't come up.

Another note I think I should mention is if you dont really enjoy westerns then you probably wont really get into Red dead redemption

Stupid question, but do you have a hard drive connected to your X-Box as you need a HDD to play original X-Box games on the 360.

I made up my mind last night, especially when I saw the price tag on a used 1st gen - $20.  That leaves me with half of what I need in order to get RDR, and if I save for a couple of weeks, or manage to get my friend (who also has a 360) to chip in, I'll be able to have it all.

Kunoichi

See?  The coin-flipping works. ;D

(Yes, I know you didn't use that trick.  Let a girl dream...)

Ok it was short, but it was good. I am saying don't buy it full price. If you can find a good used copy then buy it.
