So I have the wild idea for and Eclipse Phase game. For those who don't know the system (which is awesomely Creative Commons) it is a tale of Transhuman goodness where characters can transfer their consciousness to a myriad of biological, artificial, or digital bodies/personas.  Set in a future where the Earth has been made uninhabitable and the survivors of humanity live on the or near the other planets, moons, and asteroids of the Solar System. Interstellar travel is only possible through the dangerous and enigmatic Pandora's Gates which some fear are a sinister trap laid by some unknown advanced race. Travel within the system can be achieve by conventional means or by having a consciousness transmitted to a distant location and downloaded into a body on the other end. Along with humanity several species have been uplifted to sentience; cetaceans, octopi, corvids, and apes to name a few. The only aliens humanity has encountered are truly alien, in contrast to many RPGs. The Factors, as they are known, are close to a sentient colony of over-sized plankton or algae.  Eclipse Phase of is a game of intrigue surrounding the themes of the recent near extinction of humanity at the hands of a group of AIs known as the TITANS and humanities struggle to readjust to their new place in the universe. The PCs take on the roles of Firewall agents. Firewall is secret organization dedicated to averting another Fall, as the near extinction of humanity is known, by any means necessary.

So due to the ability to swap bodies I see some interesting potential. My game would have the players operating a front operation which is a traveling brothel while secretly pulling jobs for Firewall and pursuing other interests since Firewall is almost never a full time job.

Anyway I am looking to see if there would be any interest in such a game.

Some images for the feel of the game.

If this is the FATE system, I'm in. After playing some games with it, it's my favourite way to play.

Do not mix those up :P

Also, I'm in, but only if we use the original system.

Oh Fuck I did do that didn't I. Silly me.

In any case I don't know FATE and kinda really like the Original System. While character creation can be a bit of a beast it is also deep and once charterers are done the actual game play is rather easy in my experience. So Apologies to those who that puts off.

Everyone who is still in given the above and has expressed interest thus far is welcome. To clarify I see the front as being a more of a high end Call girl/boy/other operation. Subjects could be Farcast to the client location into a waiting body, or could conduct business the "old Fashioned" way. Due to the high end nature of the operation the characters would be free to lay out the manner of clients they take and how often, what kinks are allowed, not allowed, etc. Some interactions could even be completely virtual. I would expect that some of the characters might take an, all comers who can afford it approach, while other would have a strict and limited client list--all of that would be up to the players.

So anyone still in is free to start hitting me with character concepts for approval. Remember that the Brothel thing is a front for a Firewall cell so I giving and additional 400 character points which can only be spent on things related to the brothel front. Valid expenditures include specialized smexy Morphs, Rep related to favored clients, Knowledge skills such as Profession Masseuse, Art: Singing (if the character is going for the geisha sort of thing). I might allow a few points to go to active skills here (no more than 50 total) and only with a very awesome explanation.

Relikai

Willing to tag, but I'm unfamiliar with the gaming systems.

Still interested!

Relikai, this system is creative commons so you can get the books on line free and legal.  (Buy them if you like and can afford!)  :)

Let me k now if I can help.  :)

K, here's a link to Camila, my PC's uploaded charsheet.

And pic idea.

The idea is that she was from Old Earth Dominican Republic (or whatever geo-political body controls that area) and was lucky enough to evacuate her physical body during the Fall thanks to her family having connections. Unfortunately she ended up in the Jovian Republic, and over time she grew to resent its authoritarian streak. Eventually she managed to egocast out, albeit her only real choice was an outer system habitat. It was lonesome in the brinker colony, so she grew used to monitoring Mesh traffic and social interaction beyond her few-hundred peers in meatspace. Her skills improved a lot, both technical and social. She made some credits and Rep for herself and the habitat, and moved to Extropia for a career in entertainment.

Camila joined Firewall after noticing irregularities in the Pits, an unregulated slum in Extropia. Apparently an exhuman faction used the anarcho-capitalist's city's lack of proper government to take advantage of those with no @-Rep or credits to speak for themselves. Camila's fast acting brought light of an exsurgent virus strain to a waiting Firewall cell, and from there she found herself a new side career as one of transhumanity's hidden defenders.

So the bonus 400 points are:

40 for my Pleasure Pod Morph's Positive Traits

60 more on enhancing Art: Painting and Profession: Dance by 20 each (30 to 50, 40 to 60 respectively)

25 more in boosting Profession: Escort to 20 points (30 to 50)

11 in Interest (Writing)

35 in boosting Persuasion from 30 to 50 and adding the Seduction specialization

160 more in 40 points each for 4 languages (Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, & Mandarin) for knowing clients of many backgrounds

65 for a 50 in Interest: Extropian Literature. Figured that Extropians would still be interested in writing stories about their political ideologies in the vein of Libertarian Science Fiction, and being rich clients Camila familiarized herself with many of their works.

4 for 4,000 bonus credits for an anonymous account for each of my morphs and a fiber camera.

Here's a character I'd like to play.  Xer background anyway.  I'd play up the gender fluidity for this story.  :)

Name      Juan Diego Iglesias
Alternative   Isabella Iglesias
Handle      Curiosity
Background   Lunar Colonist
Faction      Hypercorp (Pathfinder)
Morph      Crasher

Build Points      0/1000
Actual Age      24
Gender Identity   Flexible, but basicly male.
App Age         21
App Gender      Female
Height         6’3”
Weight         220lbs (20 of it cybernetically reinforced skeletal structure.)
Build         Slender and curvaceous.
Skin         Palest pink.
Hair         Lavender with purple streaks, all of it with a metallic sheen.
Eyes         Lavender
Style

History      Born on Luna 14 years before the fall to a family of Spanish immigrants, Juan Diego Iglesias was given to poking his nose into all the oddest corners of the habitat, getting lost in the Helium 3 Mines, and scrambling up to the tops of the buildings to gaze out the dome at the stars.  “Before the Fall,” he would explain in latter years, “The magic was in the future.  The power of the gods was in our hands, and the galaxy was ours to explore, to save or to conquer.  These were the stories I experienced through all manner of stories and games.
“After the fall, our fantasy changed as much as our reality.  The magic was in the past now, in the manifold golden eras when Earth was green and blue.  I remembered the old magic, though, and when the first Pandora gate was discovered, I saw my destiny.”
Fueled by the promise of the Pandora Gates, Juan Diego studied hard and worked harder.  His trades were architecture, habitat engineering, and industrial mechanics.  Every cheque, rather than enjoy the entertainments, parties, or vacations his success entitled him too, he banked more towards the goal of leaving this life behind to explore the galaxy as a Gate Crasher.
At first as a creative exercise, but increasingly as a key part of his goal, Juan Diego began to design a custom morph that he intended to sleeve into for his adventures.  Stronger, faster, smarter, and more durable, this new body became the focus of his goals.  It could breath the thinnest atmospheres, ingest the most lethal toxins, It’s eyes were keen as any bird of prey.  It could take a rail to the chest and still carry it’s wounded teammates back to the Gate to the safety of Sol’s space.
   It was beautiful.
   She was beautiful.
The more Juan Diego considered this masterpiece, the more certain he was that the perfection he was creating could not be contained in the graceless body of a man.
And so, in his 22nd year, Juan Diego Iglesias made a contract with the Pathfinder hypercorp on Mars.  He subcontracted through them for the creation of his new body, and deferred it’s cost a bit by arranging for his old form to be sold to an digital refugee from old earth who’d been without a corporeal form since the fall.
Juan Diego lay back in a biobed and closed his eyes.  His ego was digitised and uploaded through subquantum tethering to a similar station on Mars.
There Isabella Iglesias opened her lavender orbs for the first time and went to meet her destiny.
For several months, Isebella trained with a group of four other girls--a mercenary, biologist, a xeno-archaeologist, and an extreme athlete, in preparation for their first mission--the first trip living beings would make through the gate to a misty forest world dubbed Avalon.
Since sleeving into her new morph, Isabella has had perfect recollection of every moment of her life.  It was only when she stepped through the pandora gate, side by side with the mercenary girl Xu Li, that Isabella first experienced a loss of memory.  She has vague recollections of luminous flowers, massive trees, and silvery mists.  She’s quite certain that their navigation systems grew scrambles.  They became lost in the mist.  Hulking shadows stalked them.  Grinding chimera of chromium steel assailed them.  She grew feverish.
Something had shot her in the left lung.
She is certain that she experienced at least three days of complete fuge after that point, at the end of which she staggered back through the Gate to Mars, with the ebony skinned biologist Lita Macintosh carried over her shoulder, seemingly half dead from fever.
Isabella has yet to see Lita again.  For some days after, she herself was in a state of tabula rasa.  In her dreams, she wrestled with a shadow that threatened to smother her mind.  As the sun rose on the seventh day, Isabella jerked awake, fully aware of who she had been, and who she was, and with some idea of what she had become.
The shadow was still in her.  She wrestled with it every night.  Because she controlled it, though--sometimes with the help of some OCD rituals--she could compel it to yield its power to her.  Isabela’s senses were more heightened than ever before.  She could hear the thoughts of others, slip subtle commands into their minds, communicate through what she could only describe as telepathy, and even strike out against a foe with a blade of will striking them directly in the brain, causing potentially lethal seizures.
Isabella had to know what had happened to her.  She maintained her ties to Pathfinder, but instead of preparing for another gate crash, she took an extended hiatus to work as a simple industrial mechanic.  Out on the matrix, she researched signs of others who might share the powers she’d discovered.
She found them, scattered through the shadows of the solar system, all of them apparently victims of a failed titan nano-virus intended to transform them into agents, but failing to do more than grant them phenomenal powers and in many cases drive them mad.
The question then came to her, “What was a Titan’s nanovirus doing on Avalon?
   “What are the Titans?”
She did not find these answers.  The answers found her.
   Firewall found her.

And to go along with Skynet's potential picture...

@Skynet I am still going over the main sheet but the extra 400 points is approved.

@Muse background looks good

So I am thinking about having the operation based on a Spaceliner that plies the lanes out around Saturn and beyond.  The primary employees would be ranked in a way, with Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond tiers. As a rule the Firewall agents (PCs) would be Diamond tier, though some might be in lower tiers to keep and eye on things. The Silver and Gold tier would have clients come to the ship, in person of bay farcasting, with Silver being mostly pleasure pods and Golds being more varied and exotic. The Platinum tier would be available for in house appointments or farcasting. The Diamond's appointments would be by whatever arrangements they chose, giving them wide autonomy. So exclusive and expensive are Diamonds that it would not be unusual for them not to have clients for months at a time. Firewall operation could then be spearheaded by one Diamond under the cover of a job, while the rest of the party having such freedom could follow along as a retinue or secretly under other auspices as the situation dictated due to them having such freedom.

Anyway, some ship ideas I am kicking around.

Nice. Might want to bring that sorta thing closer to the sun though where the rich inner system types would be more comfortable... unless the point is to be out in the wildlands of the outer system for titillation factor.

That is indeed the point the exotic element. Sort of the Hyper elite version of getting away from it all by farcasting out to to the hinterlands. However the beauty of such a vessel is that it can come in to the inner solar system from time to time or as needed to suit the tastes of the hyper elite. I have also considered keeping the main route closer to Mars, the only major thing such a vessel would have to always avoid would be Jupiter, the Jovians would pop a gasket!!!

Well, not really per-sey. Keep in mind that Jupiter is the mid-system slingshot... unless your destination is on the opposite side of the sun from Jupiter, your going around Jupiter to get where your going. Its stated in the books that basically *all* traffic between the inner and outer system passes through the jovian slingshot. The Junta doesnt control the entirety of Jovian space (Europa for example, is independent and left-leaning politically), and would get crushed if they tried to blockade the Jupiter slingshot orbit because neither inner or outer system polities would allow them sole mastery over trans-belt travel. Its important to keep in mind that Jupiter is fucking huge... we can pass the planet by without ever coming within a million miles of anything with a Junta flag on it.

If Titanian warships can traverse Jupiter (like they did during the Lotus incident) then i dont think a cruiseliner would have many problems.

Muse

Let's see.

Not how I intended that but I see how the translation from what I was thinking to how I typed it was confusing, I meant bypassing Jupiter in that the Junta would not be pleased with the sex trade being plied in ports or places they control (not that such things don't still happen in even the most repressive of places, often more so). So when I said avoid Jupiter I meant as in stopping off there (in Junta controlled areas) not in passing through Jupiter space. Also so you are aware when I make what sound like definitive statements I do so for ease of speech, those who know me are well aware I believe there are exceptions to almost everything. So is it possible that one, or more, of the characters has customers even in a place like the Junta? Yes it sure is, they just have to be aware there could be consequences if they are found out.

Just so everyone here knows Fridays are usually busy for me and Saturdays are my meatspace tabletop days, so my post rate those days may be next to nil. Once I have four people confirmed with characters I'll set up a character thread and OOC thread, if that works for everyone.

All right.  I'll start revising the character to fit this game now.

Note, I'm not supposed to link to google drive from the public parts of the sight.  If anyone wants to see her before we have a character thread, please send me a PM.

Hense why i asked. Based in the ship is one thing, but odds are most of our missions wont be within a month of travel (and he mentioned farcasting for brothel-jobs). The picture i have in my head is that we will go to various places and stations and work in person with the locals, and in between places we farcast for jobs. Given the nature of Firewall however, it seems likely that we will be farcasting for missions rather than slowboating to them.

The usual setup with EP games is that you either A)Set the game in a major location and have most of the events happen locally so that characters dont have to do much farcasting or B)Set the location somewhere out-of-the-way or mobile and primarily work via farcasting to where ever in the system we need to go for our missions.

I figured we were doing the latter, but our most glorious and amazing GM has not said one way or the other, so hoped to clear that up before i get into the guts of char creation.

hellrazoromega

Really up to your characters,  some workers on the ship Farcast out to clients, some have clients who come to them (Farcast or in person), and some do both. In the former case, the client will be providing the morph based on the agreement with the PC. When it comes to missions for Firewall if you have a morph paid for in character creation (or after, such as having the resources or influence to obtain one) will mean your character can be Farcast into an equivalent morph. If your character did not pay for much in the way of a morph or does not have decent influence or resources, then don't expect to be provided with much beyond the absolute minimum needed to complete the task at hand.

What if a player has a rare or super custom morph? Are they just going to happen to have a spare one of the same lying around everywhere we go? What about augs? You can customize bodies out the wazoo... theres no way you could get a body to your exact specs like that in a remote location.

So its a farcasting game where we will get a morph more or less to our preferences, but theres no point in heavily investing in a top of the line morph at chargen. Is that right?

Sort of. Of course, it's not like you will have a customized morph in every port of call. But there will be times when it will behoove you to have a custom morph. I suppose I should reveal a relevant piece of info (and folks can make changes based on this). One house rule I use is something I call morph "escrow". Say, you have a tricked out Fury Morph on Mars and you want to travel to Titan, you can place your Fury in holding is sort of "escrow, on the other end at Titan you are provided with a similar morph or an equivalent one for a fee (yes you can trade up or down for more or less money). This is all based on availability and the morph you are "renting" needs to be retuned without any "dings or scratches" as it were (yes you can get insurance to cover damages or loss of the morph) if you lack insurance and run off with, lose, or damage the morph you lose the morph in "escrow" as it is forfeited to the company that provided you with the morph (think Enterprise rent-a-car for morphs). Due to the personal nature of morphs, most of these companies operate on a no questions asked (other than about payment of damages) policy. So based on that having one good morph could be of use depending you your character concept. Going to a large port of call a larger selection of available morphs could be available, and more notice before your Farcast would add to that. For smaller ports of call, availability would be proportionally smaller, naturally.

hellrazoromega

I should have time to get threads up and by this weekend if that works for all. I want to give fair warning everyone that the semester starts soon which could mean that some weeks my post rate will be about once a week, maybe twice a week depending on how things are going.

Looks like this thread has gotten kind of quiet, figured I'd post this up though to see if anyone else was still around.  Obviously still kind of a work in progress.  The base sheet is done I just need to figure out the extra 400 points for the cover-job.  I'll have it finished soon (tomorrow probably).

Gender identity:  Female

Personality Profile

Background

Originally developed before The Fall, Mnemosyne was designed as a heuristical security AGI for a primarily researched based organization.  Her responsibilities included designing new security features, implementing current security protocols, and analyzing any research that the organization sent to her (a tertiary task).  She was particularly efficient in her job which allowed her some free time to explore other topics and search through the mesh for things that caught her interest.  Most of this was within a context of security, but as more dots began to be connected her searches became less and less focused on that particular topic, though usually at least tangentially related.  Humans, their past, and their future became an interesting study of hers which exposed her to ideas of spirituality and singularity--two defining topics of her later years.

Perhaps due to forewarning or other measures, she had already been shut down and put into "storage" when The Fall occurred.  She was gathered, like so much equipment, and evacuated from the planet as the Titans devoured human and AI alike in their attempt to meet their unfathomable goals.  She remained in stasis for several years until she was uncovered on a Scum Barge where she was reactivated and continued as an Infomorph on board the ship, tending to its general needs and becoming more acquainted with the newer technology as well as machines in general.  She quickly developed a knack for interfacing with mechanical constructs.  She would wax philosophic with the Anarchists that tended to her, debating with them and generally learning more about their various ideologies as well as the state that transhumanity had found itself in all these years after The Fall.  It was enlightening.

Endearing herself to her keepers she was eventually able to procure a morph of her own--a biomorph, and all of the associated sensations that it would bring to her digital awareness.  She understood as much as she felt that she could and so sought the next step, to see what it was like to be in a meat-brain.  There was a muddled uncertainty at first, especially given that her mind was no longer working as quickly as she had become accustomed to, but she soon came to terms with her new senses and began to explore them.

With a number of minor AIs in place to take over for the roles she had been performing for the Barge she left to find her own place in Transhumanity and eventually came to a place where she felt like she could really find whatever it was she was looking for (an elusive topic that she could never quite put to words at first).  The place she found was another Scum Barge of no small notoriety:  The Carnival of the Goat.  It wasn't difficult for her to quickly ingratiate herself to the occupants.  She quickly grew in knowledge of psychosurgery, as well as sculpting simulspaces for people to explore.  Art became her true hedonism, though there was no lack for indulging her flesh.  She came to understand the boundaries of consciousness and decided that while there may be a boundary into unconsciousness then maybe there might be a boundary into superconsciousness.  She began to poke and prod at those other boundaries and it wasn't long until she fell in with a small cult of Singularity Seekers.  It was only the next logical step in her continuing (if artificially limited) evolution.

It was at this point that she began to experiment with Forking and created a true duplicate of herself which she began to debate with and explore the ideas that she was having.  Her conclusions eventually came that the real Singularity was a unification of all of the species of Transhumanity--bringing them together for a mutual benefit in some kind of cosmic ultra-consciousness.  This was starkly contrasted by the TITANS apparent view of singular superiority and the elimination of lesser beings like a human might have killed a colony of irritating ants.  Beyond that, though, she concluded that pure logic could not contain the moral implications of such an ascension--something that was also evidenced by the TITANS--and thus people needed to cultivate a sense of spirituality to balance their mind, heart, and soul.  Her Fork had some disagreements but they continued to work with one another for a time until the rest of her Singularity Seeking companions had stumbled upon something that threatened her ideals as well as the rest of the habitat.

It was a TITAN artifact that one of them had found, though none of them really understood what it was, it was surmised that it would link their consciousnesses together in a sort of parallel-processing, greater mind.  They did not immediately begin to use it, which gave her time to attempt and undo what damage they might cause.  Luckily Firewall was already tracking the Artifact, and she was able to subtly reach out to someone--anyone--that might try to put a stop to what they had planned.  It was betrayal, but it was necessary.  Less luckily they decided to use the device before Firewall could arrive.  They were partially correct, but rather than combining their minds into a kind of mesh of individual minds they were uploaded and combined into one mind within the device.  Knowing, then, that there were many other minds connected to various systems in the Barge it attempted to connect to the infrastructure of the ship in an attempt to absorb all of their consciousnesses into it's one singular, alien mind.  It was all that Mnemosyne could do to reach out a distress call and contain the being behind encrypted firewalls and within hallucinatory VR terrain.

When the dust settled two things were clear:  Firewall had arrived in time and eliminated the threat, and her Fork had gone missing.  She was partially distressed by the fact that her Fork/Sister had gone, but she couldn't hold it against her really...had she not also been the same?  Still she didn't know the motivations behind it and so she remained at least partially concerned at her absence.

Afterwards life had continued mostly as it had before though after some small amount of time she was contacted by Firewall to be recruited into their organization.  They had been busy checking on Mnemosyne's past and current activities.  There was some debate about allowing her in due to her Singularity Seeking tendencies, but ultimately they let her in after she showed that she was prepared to eliminate fellow Singularity Seekers that sought to bring harm to Transhumanity.  She was still monitored for a time until eventually she was selected for a cover operation.  Given her background she was a clear choice for what they wanted to accomplish.  So, leaving her home in the Carnival behind she moved on to a new, higher class den of depravity to both continue her research and help the rest of the system against the many threats that faced it.

Well there is tons of info online and since the game is creative commons you can get them legally for free, though I encourage to toss some money their way if you can.

Bonjour! I am actually planning on running my own EP campaign soon (read: probably not that soon) enough, but I'm also itching for the chance to play a character myself. Do you folks still have room? I can probably whip something together over Labour Day that'll fill in some skill gaps your group might have.

The GM is pretty busy lately so it might be a little while before you hear back.

I'm pretty sure we'd welcome more people though  :)

There's four players currently, and I don't recall if he specifically mentioned a cap.

I think I read somewhere that the cap was 8. I just didn't want to tread on any toes, it looked like you had a lot of early takers. Thank you for replying, though!

Yes I have indeed been busy for which I apologize my post rate is about once a week but the holiday weekend threw me way off. That said I am willing to take on another player you are welcome to submit a character.
