RULES

I didn't think I would need these when I first put this idea up with Dorian Grandale, but after some drama happened between us GMs and another player, I guess it is required after all.  Most of these are common sense but as an old computer teacher in high school used to say, "Write your programs as if the dumbest person in the world was going to use it."  Translation;  Expect people to find ways to break your program or in this case, RP, unless you cover all your bases and make it airtight.  Or as Dorian told me, it's the KISS principle.  Meaning, Keep it Simple, Stupid.  :P  So this is me, making this RP airtight and as simple as possible.

Rule 1;  You don't have to be perfect with your grammar or anything like that, but I know that the other RPers here will be happy to not have to run your stuff through a spell check for you.  Just do the best you can and try to keep things at a considerable length since the average I think for posts should be 2 good sized paragraphs.  More is always welcome.

Rule 2;  Please, PLEASE do not waste the GMs' time.  If you plan to work with us and try to create a character using 3rd edition GURP rules as has been established so far, then you show that you are committed to this game and don't plan to flake out on us.  We worked hard to make this work and while we're still ironing out the bugs a bit we are willing to work with you, as long as you work with us.

Rule 3;  This is inspired by Corruption of Champions, where the general premise was that one world is being horribly twisted by demonic created taint or corruption.  The residents of this dark and twisted world are similarly corrupted in some form or another.  That means that this is heavy on the crazy sex, the crazy transformations, and all kinds of other crazy things that pop up at random most times.  You can try to remain pure and there are ways to stave off or even purify yourself, but everyday will be a battle against the corruption that has become strong enough that without a proper will save, you will gain more corruption even without eating or partaking of any of the things found in this world.  Be willing to adapt as needed.

Rule 4;  Dorian Grandale has made it possible to run the system used for this, while I handle the story related elements.  If there is a problem, we are the law, judge, jury, and if needed, executioner.  Show respect to your GMs and we'll return the favor.  Play around with us and expect to get the ban hammer, although before or after we sic a gang of imps on you will be up for debate.   >:) >:) >:)

Rule  5;  The most important of all.  HAVE FUN!

Ok, for those not in the know like some of us crazy people here on E, :P, CoC is short for Corruption of Champions, a game that's a free in browser game ran by a couple of people and put together by fans like us in a sense.  The developers of the game take content people submit and include it into the main game itself and it's still growing.  All that aside, the basic premise is that you're a young either guy or gal that has been asked as part of a yearly tradition to head through a portal into what they call the Demon World.  Corruption is a kind of living force in a sense, making people, plants, even animals and some objects as well, into tainted dark parodies of themselves.  It's magical pollution of the worst sort.  Demons thrive in it, using sex and all kinds of strange fetishes to dominate the lesser beings of their ever changing world, and once they conquer their world, the people of yours fear they shall do the same to theirs.  Unfortunately most of that information isn't known to you, only that you've been chosen to try to help the sane beings on the other side in combating the darkness that is threatening to overtake them.  The rest you find out as you go along for the most part.

Anyway, this RP myself and a friend, Dorian Grandale to be precise, that we plan to put together will be based around the same ideas that are present in CoC.  Corruption will be a huge factor, as will all sorts of exotic monsters both sane, semi-sane, and all out sex crazed depending on how badly they've been tainted, transformation through the use of strange spells, potions, or edible items which most likely will impart a small bit of corruption regardless, many sexual fetishes and even stranger acts along the way, and more.  ;D  To manage the huge amount of content as well as combat, we've decided to go with a basic GURP set up which my associate will go into much greater detail since I'm more the story guy than the system guy lol.

The basis of the world(s) themselves however is as follows.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our two worlds are both the same, and they are a mirror of the other slightly askew as it might be.  Very little information comes to us from the few that have ever returned from the other side of the portal, located at the end of the Path of the Wanderers that goes high up into the mountains to the east of here.  However, like every year once a year, champions from all over our world gather at the portal and enter together to hopefully figure out why our world has slowly started to change into something....less than pleasant.  You and several others have been called, each of you possessing different skills, different tactics, different backgrounds, but all stand together to drive back whatever has been threatening the other world beyond the portal.  Good luck, and may the Gods be with you all.

The world is for the most part a kind of high fantasy low tech version of reality in most instances, although I will say that some of the technology involved is almost modern in its scope.  The Demon Factory they have in CoC for example is just like any factory you'd expect to find in ours, except for the big difference in that the demons have rigged up dozens of young men and women to machines that stimulate their bodies perpetually through the use of powerful drugs which make them all too eager to climax copious amounts and the fluids are then harvested and dumped into the river that runs to a lake where the goddess of the land resides in an attempt to fully change their world for good by tainting her beyond hope of recovery.  Yeah, it's sex heavy lol.  The point being is that while for the most part the world is rich with swords and magic, there are oddly enough pockets of technology here and there that can be quite surprising when found and even more surprising as to what they do when put to use.  ;D  Anyway, it's not important right now, but the world we all come from will be strictly sword and magic high fantasy so no cell phones, computers, etc.  Many of the common races I'd assume such as elves, humans, halflings, etc will be put to use but I'll leave that more up to Dorian to decide as well.  Anyway, let's get this show on the road!

Ah, a responder. That was quick.

I'm still deciding whether we're going to use 3rd or 4th edition GURPS, but my thought is to set them as special Features, some of which would have attached Advantges and Defects. On that note, I'm also thinking that most such would slowly fade, specially if you lower your corruption below a certain point.

You'd be required to keep a Header of every Perk, Item, how much money you have, (which will likely take the form of Gems,) and a number of other things to make it easier on everyone to keep track of who has what and all that junk.  Beyond that, we're still kind of hashing things out lol.

Do keep in mind two things: One, we'll be using as light a system as possible, but it will still be in place.

Two, we are basing the game on the CoC theme, but we likely will do some changes to it, starting with some of the available creatures, as Verg indicated in his OP.

I can do systems but they take me a while to learn so I normally avoid them.  Still, that's not why we're doing a light as system as possible.  It's more there's so much to the general game of CoC it'd be hard to contend with all the variables with even a DnD game behind it.  Still, this isn't a CoC ripoff, just the same idea as Dorian has said already.

For starting level I'd assume level 1 since everyone will have just arrived and all that.  You might be 'Champions' for each of your respective villages or towns but in the other world you won't have any money, reputation, friends besides the ones you make along the way, and no clue as to what you're really getting into.  The few people that come back never talk about what they saw there and they are often times changed beyond what they were when they originally went in, only furthering the mystery.  Equipment should be appropriate to whatever 'class' you happen to go for and nothing over powered.  ;D  Sorry, got to watching the rest of Gone in Sixty Seconds on youtube so didn't go to bed as I thought I would lol.

Dorian can fill in the rest of the more technical details though.  That's just my side of things.  ;D

Heh. Except for a few things that will need to be changed, most of the info you need, will be in the book. I'll post up a link once I upload it. Don't be frightened. it is only 32 pages.

Oh, hello Tydorei, and welcome.

EDIT:
You can find the very simple rulebook here.

32 pages.... I hope everything is well-described, I'm not experienced with GURPS.

As for transformations fading... I kind of liked the idea that even if you manage to get rid of your corruption, you are still stuck in your body, I'm more fan of abilities based on corruption. But it is your call, of course.

I may not play GURPs but I do play DnD and Pathfinder and I happen to know of six semi-standard ways of determining the power level of a 1st level character, most based off how you find your starting stats. :P

Level 1 is not nearly as useful a starting point as a lot of people think.

On a related note, what races are available? Are we all starting human or are things like elves and dwarves available?

I believe I said in the intro, I could be wrong since I post tons all over this here site lol, that most of the common fantasy races were available to play so yes, dwarves, elves, humans, halfings, and whatever else that is common fare.  I might even allow some of the less common such as dark elves, giants, even a sentient orc or two if ya like, SO LONG as they are at least friendly if nothing else lol.  And ok, what level would you suggest then Saric?  Just curious but I don't want us all to be friggin trampling all over the enemies is why I said level 1 anyway, that and as I said before, there's hardly anything to go on about what's out in the other world anyway and half the battle is knowing your enemy.

From what Dorian has shown me through the rulebook he gave to me over Skype, as far as I can figure GURP does have levels, at least to some degree they could be called as such anyway.  He'd explain it better than me though so ask him to be sure.

Hmm. Perhaps a more efficient way of communicating is needed..

It's okay, Sara. As an indicator of mine, I started with GURPS when it was on 2nd edition. I'll be using 3rd ed for this.

GURPS does not have levels, at least not in the way DnD uses them. The best indicator of power for a GURPS chara, it's their character point total. You use character points to do improvements on everything.

The only 'levels' I can think of in GURPS are the skill levels, which are relative to your main stats.

Sorry, I missed the line about race. It's at the bottom of the post.

As for the 'level' it's character points like Dorian said. The book he linked suggests 100 for creating a standard 'heroic' character (think PCs vs NPCs in DnD), 25 for an 'average joe' character and up to 300 for high power campaigns. Given that every thing we encounter looks to be a monster of some sort I'm not sure what power level is needed. I would suggest picking out an average early game monster encounter, stating it up with Dorian, and giving us slightly more points then that or 100 whichever is higher. Don't forget to take into account whether or not the monster in question is normally in a group. (the 'enemies' disadvantage equates 3-5 'average' enemies to 1 'heroic' enemy)

But in CoC you start pretty miserable and early in the game you are pretty forced to pick your encounters, or end up something along the lines of a minotaur cumslut or tentacle monster's plaything.

Sure, but as we mentioned. This is not CoC per se. It is based on it. You'll have a bit more of a chance, even if you will start rather miserable here, too.

I'd recommend starting at anywhere between 100 and 150 CPs. What do you think of that, Verg?

GCA 3 uses third edition, GCA 4 uses fourth. I have both. I am a very sad Gurps GM...

You can also load the files for Gurps third into GCA 4 and it works just fine for third ed of course...

Let me see if I have time for this. *Smiles* I may be overcommitting myself.

Sadly, I'm a little overburdened with games as it is, but I'm going to try and keep an eye on this game.

If my load lightens up some time in the future, would it be possible for me to hop in?

Also, one question/slight CoC complaint: in the computer game, it looks like nothing corruption-y happens to your character unless you do it - you're almost never forced to drink succubus milk and such, for instance, it's all done by choice, and there's usually no benefit aside from the corruption (which is a benefit to the player, but to the character, it's generally not so much).  Is there going to be something in here that makes corruption either a bit less optional or more beneficial from the character's perspective?

Well, the way I'm planning to work this, the 'transform options' that come with using the items, would actually entail both advantages, and drawbacks, as well as the usual infusion of corruption. Plus, depending where you are in the 'dark world' you'll slowly pick up corruption from the environment itself. I'm entertaining the notion that corruption might (very) slowly burn off while in the 'light world' side, though any transform effects would stay.

I have a lot of stuff going on already, but I failed my Will roll to avoid coming in here and expressing interest. CoC and GURPS... just too hard to resist!

Um... are there still any openings left?

Well, hello there, Luna! And yes, currently we have three players, four counting you.

We've heard concepts for a healer, a rogue, and a warrior, I believe. Also, I take it you are familiar with the system? if so, then great! One more player that actually knows what they are doing. *grins*

Welcome abaord Luna.  ;D

And SneakyGuy, I'm not sure how that might work but if you want to send an experimental Character Sheet, we'll go from there and see how things go.  There are some tech references in the core book that Dorian sent me but from what I could tell they were more centered around armored suits, some flying stuff, things like that.  I don't want this to turn into a sci fi game so if you can stick to simpler tech like repeating crossbows or something similar we should be good.  Otherwise surprise me and you could quite possibly get lucky.  :D

Heh. I'm going to make my character start off with little or no sexual experience. Hopefully, I can go through the game without being turned into a sex crazed beast.  ::)

I'll try and have my character up my tomorrow.

I need to get to work in a little while, but I will be back in the morning. Are the guidelines for character creation (i.e. character point total, which edition of GURPS. etc) listed near the beginning of the thread? I haven't read through the whole thing yet, but I will.

And yes, I am indeed familiar with the system.  :-)

The game includes methods to remove corruption (including simply exercising restrain in some situations), methods to remove or replace transformations, as well as ways to 'purify' items of corruption (ether partially or in full) while keeping their transformational effects. Are any of these likely to feature in the RP or do our characters basically have a 'shelf life' before their inevitably corrupted. Leaving aside those who happily throw themselves at the incubus of course. (*cough cough* saranilsson *cough*) ::)

Thank you much, Sara.

I must also add, that no Wealth or Reputation may be taken, as they would be pointless in the dark world.

Since the Wealth option increases starting fund (and thus gear) is that a 'no wealth at all' or just enforcing the 'no one beyond this level without GM permission' point?

Gems, the darkening world's form of money will be easier to obtain than what they are in CoC itself unless Dorian has a different idea of course.  As for your corruption question Saric, I'd like to keep the option open of being able to purify yourselves so that there is no real limit to your characters.

Yes but in the early game getting the 500 gems for the gym is almost impossible, then in the late game you've got the best gear money can buy and maxed stats and still have 3k gems.

Here, at least, there's more point in getting the intermediate gear rather then just saving up and there's magic and tech so there should always be something better to buy... if you're unwilling to fuck the goblin or the succubus sorcerer for it instead.

I foresee many such options ahead of us.

Saric has the right of it in regards to the money question.  CoC it was rather pointless to get money after a certain point for that very reason, but here there will likely always be something that is better.  There will always be tougher enemies, always be something to work towards if this goes well enough.  ;D

I will try to get a character in the next day or so.

Maybe some kind of battle mage? I might focus on just one element, so I would hopefully have points left over for a few halfway decent combat skills as well.

How many levels of Magery would you allow?

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
(gah made a mistake she has 2 unspent points not 1..)

Nadia is a young woman born on the road as her clan is constantly moving from place to place in their colorful wagons, trading their expertise in magic and alchemy for coin and the goods they need. Born with a witch of a mother it was only natural that young Nadia would follow in her mothers footsteps ans she very early showed an aptitude for healing magics, in fact it came very natural to her to heal any of the cuts and bruises the menfolk would sustain during drunken revelries or when out hunting. Having seen what weapons can do to a human body and having felt those very wounds under her hands and seen the trauma inside of her mind as she dipped her senses into a wounded body to heal it she has sworn to herself to never use violence other then in the strictest need for self defense.

Having inherited her fathers good looks she has long flowing jet black hair and the fine features of an angel, wherever she goes men seem to turn their heads to look her over much to her own dismay. As the whole thing with men.. or women.. her people are very open about alternative pairings .. well to her it is not something she is all that interested in and if she can avoid it she plans to just spend her live healing others and any commitment she would make would just feel cheap in comparison to that.

Like all of her kind she loves to sing and dance, and she is blessed with a clear voice that carries easily across campfires as she gladly sings and dances along with her tribe. It is the one time she really can feel relaxed and just be herself otherwise she is normally a bit introvert not wanting to get too close to anyone knowing that her calling to heal the sick and injured must always come first.

Alright, peoples. The IC thread should be up. Intro your charas while I figure out something for the chara sheets!

And hey there, masterofgames. If you know how to use an IRC client, point it at SorceryNet, room name is #CoC-OOC. I'll help you out.

EDIT: Re Z L, Sara, pastebin me your finished charas. I'll make a coded chara sheet for each of you, and any others that come, in a separate thread.

I'm not very tech savvy sadly, could you help me get started? Also, is it okay if I just introduce my character and make the character sheet fit around it when I figure out how?

Character History
Always something of a trouble maker, the impulsive Diego was always eager to test his skills against anything and everything.  Of course that ended up getting him beaten down on more than one occasion, but he was never brought down by any loss.  If anything each setback was just another challenge to meet.  Roguish by nature, he got by with thievery when he couldn't simply fast-talk his way into getting what he wanted.  His outlaw nature made many women swoon for him, and he was always happy to oblige their desires, though he rarely stuck around long after.

He decided early on that he was going to become one of the Champions sent through the gate to stave off the corruption from the tainted land.  He knew very little of the place, but knew that he was going to one day finally conquer it one way or another.  He worked hard to become one of the best swordsmen in the world and while he probably wasn't the most skilled in the world, he was certainly an extremely masterful fencer.  His limited experience with magic left a sour taste in his mouth, deciding it to be untrustworthy, if unreliable.  Magic users weren't necessarily untrustworthy, but he kept a wary eye on them just the same.  You never know when they might explode, after all.

He traveled around, challenging people to duels when he felt like it, spreading mischief and legs wherever he went.  He gained some measure of reputation which made some wary of him, but he hardly cared.  It was such fun making fools out of them later on, after all!

When he was finally selected as a Champion he was elated.  It was only a matter of time now before he completely dominated the Tainted Realm!

Character History
Robin was born and raised on  one of the islands of Aquas. His father a mystery, his mother dying in childbirth. He was an Orphan and was sent to the church to be looked after by the islands new Head priest. The Head priest, a man named Talos, seemed to have an endless patience and possesed a serene gentless and Robin quickly bonded with him. Because of Talos' influence, Robin took a calling to the cloth at an early age and devoted himself to it, modeling himself after the only father figure he'd ever known. This meant he strived to be as patient and understanding as possible with everyone he met, although he also kept himself distant from Worldly desires and had no close friends because of it. Robin would have loved to take over for him, but, Aquas being a highly devout nation, had no shortage of priests and Talos was still quite young as Robin came of age. He was Healthy too, and would likely still be around for another entire generation. Since Talos was fully capable of Handling his home island, Robin knew he would have to pilgrimage to other lands to spread the faith anyway, so when the time came to send a new volunteer to challenge the tainted realm, Robin accepted the task.

He has decided to have faith in the denizens of the tainted realm, and do his utmost to help them lead virtous lives, no matter how they might try to slight him. For surely everyone, no matter how strange in appearence, can obtain their soul's redemption if you nurture them wholeheartedly and unconditionally.

Character History
Jasper Howe, a child prodigy at his father's armoury, soon found out there are more interesting objects to make than breastplates, bucklers and even swords. He had a talent for the things with moving parts, be it locks, or the town clock, that he managed to repair after being stuck for three years, so with the blessing of the locals and a lot of the family's reserves, he was sent to study with a reknowned dwarven engineer. Initially viewed with distrust, Jasper soon managed to convince him of his talents and gain acceess to the secrets of his craft, but it was all day sitting on a bench, and the teenager was growing more impulsive, now that he knew what he could achieve there, it suddenly didn't sound enough. Then there was the gate...

Character History

Parry is half your melee combat skill rounding down. Block is half your shield skill rounding down.

Character History
Erika was born and raised in the prosperous forest town of Kokiri in the shade of Mt. Goren. Erika comes from a long line of Champions of both her mother and father sides of the family. When her own parents were chosen while she was still an infant she had been entrusted to her maternal uncle, Gilthanas and his wife Silvana. The pair adopted the half-elven child and loved her as their own in the absence of her birth parents. Over the years as she grew Erika showed a great love of wide open spaces and animals, even demonstrating a great aptitude in the arts of being a ranger, something that her uncle wholeheartedly approved of since most of his own children had followed different paths. Gilthanas personally trained his niece until there was nothing left for her to learn, showing fatherly pride at all her accomplishments. Although her aunt and uncle had always been good to her the half-elven beauty could not help but wonder what had become of her own birth parents once they had crossed through the portal. When it came time for the annual tournament to be held in their town to select the newest champion Erika signed up to take the challenge. Through a good mix of luck and pure skill Erika came out the winner.  taking only what she needs she said her goodbyes to the only family she has ever known and sets out on the adventure of her lifetime.
