Am I in the wrong place?

So I just got approved, and I was very excited about that. As I'm sure isn't uncommon here, having the whole site opened up to me was a bit overwhelming. That's not my real problem, though. I didn't actually come here looking for sexual roleplay. I chose Elliquiy because I was looking for a site that allowed adult or sexual situations in roleplay, and seemed like a very accepting and friendly place to be. What I really wanted was just engaging, story-central, character-driven roleplay. Now, I have to say that in the short amount of time I've been here, the people I've met have been nothing but wonderful, and regardless of whether or not this can be the place I was originally looking for, I plan to be an active member here. I've never been a roleplayer purely for sexual purposes, but hey, when in Rome screw as the Romans screw, right? But I'd love to know if anyone thinks there might be a place here for what I was looking for.

Of course there's a place for you here.  There are a great many writers on here that put "plot before porn."  You just need to peruse the on/offs and role play preferences of people that pique your interests and it also can't hurt to read some of their other games. 

I assure you you'll find writers that tickle whatever fancy you have here on E.  Even if that means a historical saga with no sex at all.... You'll find writers of every caliber here. Just read profiles of folks.  Everyone here is very friendly and if you send a PM, more than likely you won't be waiting for a response.

There are all varieties of Roleplay on E, with many members preferring character driven plots, with the mere possibility of sexual encounters. Or even RP without any sexual overtones. It is a matter of finding people with the same likes as yours.

I myself came to E for the purpose of Roleplaying character driven plots with other adults.

Yes, there is a place for what you are looking for. Digging for treasure time. You can also leave requests that state what kind of RP you would prefer.

Or, to sum up: Whatever you want, you can find it here. Just to provide examples, I'm currently running two World of Darkness games, one that's much more story focused, and while sex might come up, it's far more important that the party deal with what is currently happening. My other WoD game is a sandbox game set in the 1920s where sex comes up a lot more because, well, roaring twenties and all, but the story still takes center stage.

To sum up again: E is a magical land where everything can happen.

I thought I would address a bit about "if anyone thinks there might be a place here for what I was looking for" as you have only been recently approved and are possibly still exploring E.

The nice thing about the approved side of the boards where move adult-themed roleplay takes place is that while adult situations and sex can come up there and there are certainly sex-driven stories, there is no obligation to write sex-driven stories. Many individuals like access to the approved RP areas because this will allow them to explore more adult themes that aren't sexual that some other sites might not like, like intense action/violent scenes that are often action-building for a roleplay or the use of alcohol or drugs for a character.

E's RP classification system for sexual content can also, in many ways, be seen as an interesting go-to for nonsexual but adult concepts as well. A roleplay that involves little to no sex but might involve a spy plot like the brutal kidnapping of a diplomat could hypothetically go in one of the Non-consensual boards. A roleplay that involves a soap opera-like romance but is not particularly sexual (the sex scenes might fade to black or simply might not happen) could easily go in one of the Light boards.

The important thing is configuring your Ons and Offs and learning how to create request threads comprehensively detailing what you are seeking to ensure that you can find RP partners interested in the same type of writing as you! While many associate O/Os with listing sexual preferences for a roleplay, many people also like to discuss at length their posting style, post length, favored genres, and even include lists of often-used or well-beloved characters so others can get a strong idea of what their  nonsexual "Ons" are for plot!

At any rate, congratulations on your approval, Delibee, and I hope that you are able to find what you are looking for.  :-)

I do believe the non-sexual RP forum is still around on the site, allowing people a sort of breathing space where they can be sure that no sexual content will find it's way into your, or anyone else' story. :)

That being said, I don't think I'm exaggerating too much when I say that the majority of stories being written here on Elliquiy, even in the more 'extreme' parts of the forum, are story driven. A lot of stories are of course driven purely on sexual encounters, but even then those sexual encounters will often have a story tied to them. ^^
How much sexual content you want in a story is always up to you. If you're looking for a story that's mainly driven by a plot and character development, but where a sexual clash between characters is an option but not the point then.. Well, you just have to ask! If/When you begin looking for writing partners, just make it clear to them that you are not looking for a lot of sex, but a lot of story - Or if your desires switch for some time and you suddenly find yourself, as many of us here have, having a bit of craving for writing something rather erotic or outright smutty.. Well, you can go on ahead!

Is this the right site for you? I don't see any way it wouldn't be. :) We're not all creatures of pure lust, and I dare say there is a story for everyone to be written here. ^^

If you look and post in the Role Playing Requests section, you'll probably find others with similar writing/gaming interests. Also, an On/Off page helps to make your interests and writing preferences known.
