Starlequin?  Do you have any past experience with systems?  If so, which ones?

Having picked up the corebook when it was originally released, I can say that it's not very complicated, probably no more than a 5.  It's kind of your standard Relevant Attribute + Skill to do Task dice roll vs. a standard difficulty for tasks, and opposed for combat system.

Starlequin

Eh, Reiji, I know Sorcerer pretty well, and I've been learning old and new WoD for a while now. This doesn't sound too bad then, but I'm still gonna go ahead and stick with voting freeform, as that seems to be pulling majority so far.

Also, I don't care if you fill out the character sheet I made on the first page there, but if everyone could start listing out their concepts and what position they're going to be looking at for their character, that would be great.

POSITIONS NEEDED:

Captain
Pilot
Mechanic
Medical

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
ABOVE
Co-Pilot
Weapons Tech (Think Jayne.  Nice way of putting it.)
Companion
First Officer

Now, I will allow combinations of multiple purposes.  However, certain ones are NOT going to be allowed, as not making much sense in my mind.  Companion/Mechanic is definitely off limits.  Think Inara, and now picture her doing what Kaylee does.  Doesn't really work, does it?

Going to throw my concept out there right now.  Kid who enlisted with the Browncoats only to join in time for the Battle of Serenity Valley on Hera...meaning that he was an Independent for all of about 15 minutes in the grand scheme of the war.  Probably in his late thirties by now.

Positions capable of being filled by him are, as they appear in PiP's post:

Captain
First Officer
Weapons Tech

Picturing him as a soldier-type build, with probably a bit of skill in flying the ship.  Not much, though.

Pretty in Pink

Okay.  I was a little leery as I didn't know something, but now that I know it, I'm going to go ahead and warn people ahead of time.  If it comes to a tie, we're going system.

Myth-weavers has a Serenity RPG sheet matrix.  Yeah, boy!

So yeah.  Vote's still out though.  Oh, Endie, feel free to post in what you would like to play.  I have no issues with you posting it up.

I would vote System and would be interested in Captain, Pilot, Weapons specialist.  Just FYI in case you need that info from me.

Starlequin

I'm thinking either a medico who scraped and struggled to get off his rural homeworld to come to Alliance territory to study, but got fed up with the bureaucracy and regulations that stand in the way of actually helping people who need it and signs on with the crew to bring better medical care to the outer rim, or someone who used to work legit but ended up being cheated and ruined by the Alliance's regard for the Law instead of justice (either captain or pilot, whichever isn't taken by the time I get to post this.) I'll fill out the CS after I grab something to eat.

AIGHT!  Full tally time.  This is also a notice to those that haven't that you should vote and tell me what you might want to play!

I had been working on a Medic, female, born and raised on Persephone but I had interest in a Companion if Medic is taken.

Also, letting everyone know, aside from Captain, Pilot, and First Officer, I have no problem if all of you want to play the same thing.  I could have those three, a Mechanic, and two weapon specialists for all I care.  :P  Makes it interesting.

ALRIGHTY!  Heads up everyone.  Your ship is landing!

Dimesions: 280 X 155 X 60 feet
Equipment:  1-25 ton shuttle
Another workhorse from the Kieran Yards stables is the Osprey Class Mid-bulk transport.  Larger overall than the ubiquitous Firefly, but with slightly smaller internal volume the Ospreys are designed as a fast, sturdy transport for use throughout the System.  Their design emphasizes rugged capability, low maintenance, large passenger and cargo capacity, and sturdy service.
The entire lower bay is given over to cargo operations, and measures roughly 90ft x 63 ft x 20 ft.  The cargo bay is fitted with a two piece ramp/hatch combination that allows extremely large cargos to be loaded and with a belly mounted “bomb bay” cargo hatch as well. A spiral staircase at the forward starboard corner allows access to the Crew Deck.
The Crew Deck is large and spacious, with comparatively wide corridors and a large lounge area and berthing compartments.  The Crew deck is forked port and starboard, providing a center-line berth and pair of docking ports for a single shuttlecraft.  The ports are fitted with telescoping access tunnels which easily accommodate larger and smaller shuttles. Two dorsal air-lock hatches (one forward, one aft-port) provide EVA access to the top of the ship.
Unusual for a civilian mid-bulk transport, the Ospreys are fitted with an integral two-bed infirmary on the port quarter.  Three double-bed passenger compartments (with a double bed and two bunk-bed cabins for the crew) are standard for the Ospreys, though many owners juggle these accommodations according to their needs.   The Ospreys are fitted with the trademark Kieran cockpit design, providing stations for pilot, copilot/navigator, and flight engineer.
To augment their maneuverability, the Ospreys are fitted with a pair of pivoting reaction drive assemblies with a 220o range of motion, which also fold eighty-degrees along their X-axis to lower the ship’s center of gravity and improve on-ground stability.  In atmosphere maneuverability and stability are augmented by the twin boom tail configuration set well aft of the ship’s center of gravity.
Although the design (and many of the Ospreys still flying) is more than twenty years old, the design was placed back into limited production following the Unification War.
The Ospreys have found a home in a variety of industries- both legal and illegal.  At least one privateer, known as the Sutter’s Pride, has replaced the centerline shuttle berth with a trainable missile battery, mounted a magnetic grappler in place of the “bomb-bay” hatch and an automatic gauss-gun in a chin turret under the cockpit.

If Haloriel has already started on a medic, I can withdraw my medic suggestion and go with either captain or pilot. Pretty, is there a storyline planned, or will this be more of a sandbox game?

There is most certainly a storyline planned.  However, at the moment, I'm still just trying to get it figured out who's playing what.

Reiji - Captain/First Officer/Weapons Tech - System
Endie - Captain/Pilot/Weapons Tech - System
Star - Medic/Captain/Pilot - Freeform
PiP - NPCs - System
Hal - Medic/Companion - Freeform
Ruby - Companion - ??
Shiny - ?? - ??
Drez - ?? - ??

Reiji, Endie, Star.  Between the lot of you, I HAVE to know which of you is playing the Captain, that way there's no arguing over things.  So if you three could get together and pick one of you, I would greatly appreciate it.  Then after that, yeah.  Also, don't forget that we do still need a mechanic.  Otherwise this boat's gonna fall right outta the sky.

Righty-o. You guys want to roll for positions, or what? Also, Pretty, should our characters already know each other, or are you wanting a whole new crew meeting for the first time?

Pretty in Pink

Hmmmm.  You know what?  Yeah, we'll have the Captain meeting his/her crew to start it all off.

IN ADDITION!  Check my next post.  There will be information on the show/movie characters and what they're doing now.

To Endy and Star: I was only interested in the Captain's chair for two reasons - having a major vote in deciding what ship we were going to fly, and also what sort of pre-game upgrades we would make to it.  Seeing as how one has already been decided, if anyone has any less mercenary designs for the ship, I'll withdraw my candidacy for it.

Also, if I'm not Captain, but First Officer, I'll probably mix up my skill arrangement a bit more, especially depending on the power level of the campaign.

Pretty in Pink

Malcolm Reynolds & Inara Serra - Married with three children.  Inara is retired from being a companion, helping Malcolm run Serenity Shipping out of Serenity Valley.

Jayne Cobb - Now runs the Mines of Canton as Overseer.

Simon Tamm & Kaylee Frye - Happily married, no children, though Kaylee has one on the way.  Simon has a successful medical practice running on Ariel.

Zoe Alleyne - After Wash's death and the success of the mission to broadwave the data they found on Miranda, Zoe dropped off the grid, and hasn't been seen since.

River Tamm - Now arguably sane, though she still has her breaks.  However, Simon has managed to get her the help she needs, and for the most part, she is back to what she was before the 'experiments'.

Alright then, if there's no other objections, I'll go ahead and work up a sheet for Captain Gabriel Whitney, new owner of the Desolate Hope.

HOKAY!  So.  Here's the updated list.

Reiji - First Officer - System
Endie - Captain/Pilot/Weapons Tech - System
Star - Captain - Freeform
PiP - NPCs - System
Hal - Medic - Freeform
Ruby - Companion - ??
Shiny - ?? - ??
Drez - ?? - ??

Still waiting on Shiny and Drez to respond back.  Endie, go ahead and decide on Pilot or Weapons Tech, or roll off with Star for Captain, and start creating.  They have until midnight my time (4 hours roughly) before I drop them.  I MAY give an extension, but it looks like you're in.

PiP?  I had a look at Shiny & Drez' stats...Shiny's probably not gonna respond until sometime tomorrow afternoon (assuming anyone does reply on T-Giving), and Drez is probably not gonna reply until about midnight-2AM E time, meaning...actually, that is within 4 hours from now.

Pretty in Pink

That's true.  Keep forgetting about tomorrow being Turkey Day.  I'll give them until Sunday morning, 12:01 AM my time.  That gives them a little over 72 hours.

Alright, I didn't see the avalanche of posts coming. ^^

Off the top of my head, I'd like to be a mechanic and if nobody else wants to be it, the flight engineer.
(gotta polish up on my techno babble). Also, I cast my vote for Freeform .
Basic character sheet is going to be filled out over the course of this day (,hopefully).
First idea would be your typical grease monkey who had an unfortunate accident...aaand got one of his hands/arms replaced with a (chrome-plated) prosthesis, both a memento of this tragic event and his undying love for any machine ever created....to be continued or scraped ;).

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Nothing great, but for someone to share their thoughts.

ReijiTabibito

Prosthetics?  I don't really recall anyone having those in Firefly...

Pretty in Pink

Neither do I, but considering Firefly/Serenity is almost very steampunkish....  I'll allow it.  PROVIDED it's just a normal regular hand.

Endie - Captain/Pilot/Weapons Tech - System
Star - Captain - Freeform
PiP - NPCs - System
Hal - Medic - Freeform

Shiny - Mechanic - Freeform

Also upping it to Seven.  HOWEVER.  No more interest extensions.  It's fixed at Seven.  :P

Starlequin

Name: Gabriel Whitney

Age: 32

Special Skills: Has a good head for logistics and negotiations, long list of friends and contacts in both high and low places

Job on Ship: Captain

Appearance:

Brief History/Personality: Gabriel doesn't talk about his past much, leading most people to think he's carrying some deep secret or hiding a tragic, scarred heart or some other nonsense. But the truth is far simpler: he doubts anyone would care, because it's pretty damn boring. Born April 13, 2506 on Beaumonde to a father that supported Unification and a mother that didn't, Gabriel heard some pretty interesting debates during his childhood. With their mother's encouragement, Gabriel's older brother Lawson sided with the Independents, but after his death during the Siege of Du-Khang, her grief was too much to bear. Afterward, Gabriel's father raised the boy alone.

In the back of his mind, Gabriel blamed the Alliance for the deaths of both his brother and mother, but his father held steadfast to his federal faith. So it only came as a surprise to one of them when Alliance forces seized his father's shipyard and levelled charges of embezzlement and fraud against him. Gabriel's father managed to prove his innocence, but his reputation was completely ruined, and he quickly followed his wife's example. For a while, Gabriel raged against the Alliance to anyone who would listen, but soon realized the hard truth: he had no hope of fighting the Alliance. All he could do was get the hell out from under it.

Gabe has spent the last three years working and crewing on a few different freighters both legal and otherwise, and has finally saved enough to pick up a ship of his own. The Desolate Hope is his chance at freedom, and he's determined to make the best of it. Now if he can just find a good crew...

Other Facts: Gabriel has no love for the Alliance, but he doesn't hate it, either. To him, it's just a big, lifeless machine that does whatever it's programmed to, and the best thing to do is just stay out of its way. That being said...he usually won't pass up an opportunity to throw a wrench in its gears, if the chance comes his way. He's not really much for combat, but he's an excellent planner, he can usually hit what he aims at, and he's not afraid to fight dirty.

Looks like there is a lot of demand for the position of captain, so since it looks like Star has that locked down, I'd be interested in doing a combo pilot/weapon tech, if you think thats reasonable.  If we have someone who wants to be THE pilot, I'd settle for co-pilot-ish and weapons tech.

I don't have any of the materials for the game so I don't know what options there are if we go system, I just like system games, especially since I haven't done one in so long.

PiP: send me a message on AIM if you have the opportunity, so I can ask ye questions for a spell.
