Has anyone else watched Toriko? I thought the anime was good, but they changed it so much from the manga just to end it since the manga is still going (I really love the manga).

I read the Manga but have not seen the Anime.

I recently watched the first season of Senyu and it was awesome. It is a face paced comedy with each episode being about 5 minutes.

With the exception of youtubing the rose dance scene from the movie, do not watch the Utena movie. Do not. It is weird. Not good weird. Just weird. Seriously. Like people turning into cars for no reason weird. The anime and the manga are beautiful, but the movie is just...*shakes head*...just watch the dance. The dance is good.

I'll be watching the movie after I finish up the show. I adore weirdness  8-)

The anime follows the manga for Toriko pretty closely up till after the first race of the cooking fest when they introduce  Tengu Buranchi. The anime ends at the cooking fest fights, but with a closure ending. They don't plan on making more, so the ending is vastly different from how the actual fight goes. I was sad to find that out.

Toriko anime isn't as graphic as it originally was going to be. Go watch the very first original episode of Toriko then watch the do-over, they censored most of the blood and gore of animal/monster killing.  Plus Toriko doesn't look as cool as he did in the ORIGINAl, but that is my opinion.

Just watch couple of episodes of Terraformers(sp?) Now that is a pretty f'ed up and graphic violent anime. That second episode. <3

Other than that, Crunchyroll isn't streaming couple of animes I am watching. Garo something and there was another anime I was watching. *Tries to recall title.* Madan no Ou to Vanadis(Yep, had to go copy paste title from anime site I watch stuff from.)

Wow, reading through this thread I can see somehow I slowly fell behind on my big hobby of anime... The thing is I'm so used to the awesome old days back in the early 90s when anime was... well, different than to how it is now. I know alot of people bash those days, but I have some nostalgic value for the Manga Entertainment VHS dub releases and stuff :)

Well folks...

Terra Formers, heavy criticism.

This anime is utmost shit in my books. I didn't mind the censoring of the first episode, the second episode wasn't that bad, but when it got to episode three, my desire to watch the anime has fallen apart completely. Interesting concept, enjoyable characters, horrible censorship. So horrible that it completely ruins the joy of watching the anime. I am going to put it on pause and hope maybe they do an uncut version, doubt it, but otherwise I am not watching another episode of this piece of garbage. Is it really that bad you ask? Lets seeee.

Example and Example I am not BSing with either of those, that is exactly what they show, black circles, all the black circles.

Am I am saying censorship is bad in anime? No, there are some animes that did a good job with censorship, such as When They Cry(can't remember the Japanese name of it) but that amount of censoring didn't ruin the aspect of the anime itself. Tokyo Ghoul has some pretty shady censoring, but still they did it in a enjoyable way.

Terra Formers? Honestly, WTF is that? Attack on Titan doesn't have any censoring of that extent. Hell, imagine Attack on Titan season two censored like that, would you watch it? I won't. If there is a sudden rise of censorship for gore in new anime series, than we are in a grim future for all anime enjoyers.

I have finished Senyu season 2. It was hilarious.

Now on to the next anime. Any Suggestions? I tend to favor Quirky Comedies or Psychological shows.

Sasquatch421

Let's see... I have some things that have comedy mixed in...

Dragonball: Mainly a fighting style, but lots of humor is mixed in.

Ranma 1/2: Lot's of laughs included within and most of the characters have their quirks. Shampoo is still the best though!

Full Metal Panic: I still love this series. Mecha action, a team leader that drinks... A lot! Of course you have the main character that is totally out of his element and a womanizing partner.

Slayers: Series is great and I find lots of laughs within....

Psychological is tougher for me, but Ergo Proxy might be a good one.

I always liked Paranoia Agent and FLCL.

Hello everyone,

You all know a lot more about anime than I do and probably than I ever will. However I've been lurking for a bit and I thought I'd stop by. NaNo is coming up and my favorite T.V. Shows are once a week only, some of them will even end during NaNo month. I've always liked watching something after tough writing sessions and it's been a while since I saw anime so I figured I'd come and ask you guys for help.
I've watched and enjoyed Death Note (I've been told by many people everyone has seen Death Note but hey, I'm a newbie when it comes to anime) even though I started enjoying it less after
death note spoilers
L died.
I've also enjoyed Nickelodeon's Avatar very much (And The Legend of Korra).
A colleague told me to watch Code Geass but I didn't really enjoy the whole mecha aspect of it. My other half told me to watch Steins Gate, but even though everyone tells me it gets better after a few episodes, the first couple of eps are so dull that I haven't been able to watch it.
So... I'm lost. Any suggestions? I enjoy plot-based animes and even though I enjoy a good fight, it isn't major to me. Above everything, I like well written animes. Oh and I heavily dislike fillers. I stopped watching Naruto because I just couldn't stand a combination of too much cheesiness and fillers.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Maybe I'll learn a bit so  I can actually discuss stuff with you guys :)

I'll suggest Attack on Titan, purely because everything else you've mentioned I also happen to suggest and agree opinion-wise with you. However I agree Steins;Gate is an amazing series, but has a duff starting few eps... Keep on with it... Its the one anime show that actually made me shed manly tears come the last few eps at least once over the last... say 3 or so eps of the series... and I'm cool with admitting that :)

Zeth

I already watched Attack on Titan. Had mixed feelings about that one.

I'm looking forward to seeing the licenced version (dubbed) of Blood Lad... Its such a light cool read, despite the chunky manga volume sizes over here... Also GITS:Arise is licenced now and will be out in the UK in November, so I'm looking to snag that too :)

Have you seen the OVAs? One is fucked up, one is hilarious, and the last one is boring.

No, I have not.

Did the manga Liar Game ever get an anime? I know it got a live action series.

Do you just not like Code Geass's mecha or mecha in general?

As a lot of Gundam series I feel might fit what you're looking for, but they're all obviously mecha so it'd be a bit pointless to offer them up!

wander

I do love Evangelion when it comes to mecha... I loved the first two Rebuild of Evangelions, but I have a mild dislike of the third one, just because I was confused by the rather choppy change of the plot to something rather different... I'm still looking forward to Evangelion:Final though...

Revelation

For political anime i'd also very much recommend Legend of Galactic Heroes. It's an older series but very great and has a ton of story. I'll let the excerpt from TVtropes explain it a bit more succinctly.

QuoteThe meat of the story is this: sometime in the 36th century , humanity has spread out amongst the stars and has split off into two great superpowers which are now sadly engaged in a decades-long knock-down, drag-out war with each other. Fighting in the forces of the Galactic Empire (whose government is based on 19th century Prussia,) is an ambitious young noble named Reinhard von Müsel, better known by the name granted to him later, Reinhard von Lohengramm. Fighting for the opposing Free Planets Alliance (a government which resembles a crumbling, bloated 20th century democracy,) is Yang Wen-li, an easygoing historian who reluctantly joined the military because he was broke. Together, these two men (both tactical geniuses) are destined to commit great deeds, eventually becoming the series' titular Galactic Heroes.

It's long (110 episodes for the main series, plus other series for side stories) and there are a ton of characters and background. If you can look past the age (Everything looks 80's animeish), then it's one of the best stories in anime i've ever seen.

Okay, Crunchyroll is going to finally do uncensored airing of Terraformers or suppose to. Some announced somewhere that first episode was already decensored, not sure of following ones, but I will give Terraformers another chance now. Really, the prior censorship ruined it.

Edit: Slash that, apparently they only did sneak peak around October 26 for first 3 episodes till 27, taking it off afterwards. Guess they are doing uncensored version down line.

Well, fuck that noise, I am not watching that garbage till it is uncensored. It is worse than Tokyo Ghoul's censorship.

Terra Formars censorship is just... lol. What's even the point of airing it right now? its terrible.

Drake Valentine

It would be alright if they weren't so lazy with censoring.

Theres good censorship, bad censorship, and lazy censorship that is horrid. Dem black circles.

I imagine much like Pupa and Tokyo Ghoul, the airing version is just an advertisement for the uncensored versions they'll sell later.

Also! Samurai Flamenco is on both US and EU netflix, or at least so i've been told for EU. It's my personal anime of the year, and you need to sit down and watch it! And you need to watch it blindly. It's about a naive and relatively innocent man who wants to become a Tokusatsu-esque superhero, and a cop he runs into.

That's all you need to know about it before you start watching. Don't read anything else.
