Note: We are essentially making our own canon, especially since we still have sparse details on the post Battle of Endor.
The Premise: Rogue Squadron has always been the stuff of legends in Star Wars canons, some of the best the Alliance has to offer. Set 60 years after the Battle of Endor, Rogue Squadron has become the elite force of the Alliance. They're not just ace pilots anymore, they're some of the best soldiers  to hold a blaster. They continue to help the Alliance maintain peace, and keep any imperial resurgent at bay, the strongest force over the period of time that has emerged is an Imperial sect known as The Pantheon. They have control of a lot of the outer rim, promising peace and security, something that  Palpatine in all his time as emperor failed to being. The leaders of the Pantheon are largely unknown, but their show of strength in many respects has given foundation for their words.  Now a galaxy is slowly becoming conflicted as to which side they should trust for galactic stability.

Rogue Squadron is no easy honor to come upon, usually it is the best of the best that get the Rogue title, as they have their own personal cruiser, a mark II assault frigate named Rogue Shadow that houses their starships and place of living. This is a crew I envision to be tight knit, some of us may be longtime wingmen, a couple may be fresh inductees to the squadron at the start of the RP. Rivalries, romance, adventure, comedic justice, this RP has the potential for it all.

I am accompanied as always by the amazingly awesome Ashley, so we are looking for people to join the squadron. You will have your Rogue, and the option for a second character that is someone on the Rogue Shadow i.e. a mechanic, crew member, etc. This has been an idea we've been debating for some time, but that latest star wars trailer [which was confirmed that those Xwings are Rogue Squadron!] sealed the deal for us. I'm pretty sure Ash and I both were in tears by the end of those 2 minutes of amazingness.

And for clarification..
People who are Force sensitive in this era will be extremely rare. Extremely. And even more rare are trained ones. We do this for a reason. Rogue Squadron will have a Force sensitive character, but as of this moment only one. We want this story to focus on the exploits of Rogue Squadron.. not the Jedi and Rogue Squadron. So it should be quite shocking when we as a group come across a Force Sensitive being, whether they are good or bad. And sooner or later.. we will be encountering both.
The definition of a hero, at least in my mind, is someone who can protect what is right. To change and stop the wrong. To fight against the forces that seek to destroy you. And, at the very least ... live life well, and enjoy it with those you love.

Player Name: MaiMizzu (call me Ashley!)
Character Name: Lieutenant Tifa Remone
Image:

Specialty:
Tifa is a natural mechanical engineer. If you put something mechanical in front of her, she can very quickly figure out exactly how it works and how to repair it. She loves to tinker with machines, sometimes even experimenting with them to see what would happen. She has many times nearly lost her life while test piloting small ships she ‘reworked’ to make them more ‘efficient’.
Personality: She is a very bright gal, but she can sometimes be something of an introvert. Tifa is also compassionate, almost to the point of fault. She genuinely cares for those around her, and once she becomes your friend, she is fiercely loyal. She tries to always keep herself in a good mood, she always tries to have a positive outlook on the world around her and those in it. But sadly, sometimes she is let down. In those times, she immerses herself in her work. Whether it’s taking apart an X-Wing or simply cooking a good meal.
Brief history: Tifa Remone was born 29 years ago on New Alderaan. Her parents were both mechanical engineers, and that trait seems to run in the family. At an early age she wanted to join the military ranks of the Alliance, to help do some good for her galaxy. To help people. And the moment her parents felt she was old enough (physically and mentally), she was allowed to leave New Alderaan and head to Coruscant. There she immediately joined the Alliance, and quickly rose through the ranks as one of the best pilots in her training class. Her mechanical abilities were also put to the test almost constantly, spending most of her free time in the repair bay. Whether it was a ship, a droid or a food dispenser, she had little trouble putting it back together in working order.
And now she has been allowed to move onto bigger and better things, having been chosen as one of Rogue Squadron's newest members.
The definition of a hero, at least in my mind, is someone who can protect what is right. To change and stop the wrong. To fight against the forces that seek to destroy you. And, at the very least ... live life well, and enjoy it with those you love.

Player Name: Batman4560
Character Name: Bendak Starslinger
Image:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Specialty: Wingman. While on the ground not many are as fearsome as a Mandalorian but in the air Bendak knows that he's at his best helping his fellow Rouge Squadron members. He's known for never having a flight partner go down while Bendak is helping him.
Personality: Silent and calculating. Bendak doesn't act without thinking. He likes to have a plan A and plan B to make sure that nothing catches him off guard. He's loyal to the Republic and the the Rouge Squadron over almost everything else. However it's his dream to bring the Mandalorian's together as a hole.
Brief history: There isn't much to know about Bendak, as a child he was taught to hunt and gather...to survive on his own by his parents. Then when he turned twelve his family left him on the planet Duxun to fend for himself. There he found relics of the Mandalorian society and pieced together the gear he would come to use to this day...Included in the heap of gear and relics he found was a downed A-Wing. He spent ten years restoring it and took to space. During his travels he came across a group of X-Wings in combat with Tie-Fighters and aided the X-Wings. Ever since he has been a member of Rogue Squadron.

That's great. I'm not really sure how in depth I want a history. I'd rather just play the loose cannon rookie type. Probably with a great love for weapons and appears at the oddest moments with sociably awkward phrases or something.  ::) I'm probably overthinking things already. It's that time for passing out on the couch.

Character Sheet:
Player Name:apygoos
Character Name:Captain Jeysen Rendar
Image:
Specialty: Master Tactician and Ace pilot: Jeysen has spent a fair bit of his life thus far in the Alliance Navy, and has earned the recognition to back up his claims. He has spent the last five years in command of Rogue Squadron as Rogue Leader, and he always has a plan, no matter the scenario. During his eleven total years on Rogue Squadron, He has never lost a comrade, largely in part to his tactical prowess.

Personality:a flirt at the bar, but a fighter on the battlefield, Jeysen is a man whose pure presence commands respect. He is firefly loyal to his men and women, standing firmly on a no one left behind stance. Among his teammates he is highly trusting and much more willing to relax more fully and let loose. He is competitive by nature, at times making sport of certain particulars of an assignment

Brief history: Jeysen is the grandson of a pilot that was long thought dead, Dash Rendar. The boy was handed his grandfathers blaster pistol, and from his father taught that survival was what you made of it, take everything into consideration. This served as the mindset that would mold his tactical prowess. Jeysen then found his way into the ranks of the Mandalorians, honing his combat skills further, sharpening his tactical prowess until he joined the Alliance Navy at the young age of 18. Taking much after his grandfather, he was one of the best pilots many of the commanding officers had seen in a long while.

It was at age 23 though that Rendar received recommendation for Rogue Squadron by Admiral Antilles himself after seeing his performance first hand at the Battle of Bespin. It is rather hard to get ones hands on that action report, but Rendar will claim he shot down at least fifty Pantheon starfighters, in addition to blowing up a Pentheon convoy that was heading straight for the city with the quick and clever use of a Tabanna Gas platform.

Upon his promotion to Captain five years ago, he was formally given two ships, one being The Outrider, the former ship of his grandfather, and a complimentary ship that would help on larger operations, The Outrunner. The Outrunner was a more streamlines strictly transport ship, but its evasiveness and maneuverability make it near impossible to pin down.

Rendar continues his career, actually enjoying his time with Rogue Squadron. He has been with then on a great many missions with them and looks forward to many more, even if rumors say that he is one of the top contenders for the title of Mandalore.

How would everyone feel about my character being a grand daughter to Aurra Sing? She'd hide her last name and keep it a secret so no one would hate her. I think it would lead to quite the plot and story/character development down the line.

Definitely interested! Was in the Star Wars game with you two last year that had a rough start, and I'm still craving Star Wars!

I'll come up with a concept, thinking of possibly converting my old concept into this. Former clone commando turned Rogue Squadron member a possibility?

its not impossible, but, do keep in mind this is sixty years after the battle of Endor, I don't recall any of the clone commando's having any sort of aging restricting agent in them. Either way I would be interested to see what you come up with.

Sounds good!

Are we pretty much following the official timeline for these 60 years post Endor? (from 4 ABY ~ 64 ABY?)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_galactic_history

apygoos

we may pull aspects from it, but this is largely out own timeline presently.
As mentioned in my character sheet the only notable Battle [not necessarily events] was the Battle of Bespin, which fun fact, for both the Alliance and The Pantheon, "never happened"
Ashley and I will be working on a timeine of important events. people that want to use pieces of existing tiemline where possibly applicable is part of why we encourage you to speak with us, to see what can be came up with.

The only thing i would say no to presently, is a child of Skywalker or Solo, if only because, the grandparents would still be alive and be major NPCs. On terms of NPCs, people may be able to relax knowing that R2-D2 is trolling around the Rogue Shadow somewhere at all times, and is a GM NPC.

And now that i reminded myself, keep in mind, you are also in charge of your astromech droid. now, you can largely ignore it if you want and just have it as background info, but I know my astromech droid is going to be amusing to say the least.

Batman4560

Has anyone been reading the Darth Vader Comic? There are really twisted types of droids similar to R2 and 3PO in it that are super dark. I'm thinking of having my Astromech be sort of like that.

I've got a character I'd like to bring in. A Kiffar who was forced into working with the Empire and unwillingly cybernetically enhanced. Finally he had enough, cut tail and ran.

If the Force Sensitive spot is open, I'd love to use him in that capacity, and just scrap the cybernetics...hhehehe, scrap.

The Cyborg would make for interesting plotlines methinks. The only thing is, the cyborg wouldve had to come form a top secret project, because as a whole The Pentheon is not doing these kind of things in the open, or even en-masse. im curious to see what you come up with.

Cyborg it is then. And yeah, it wouldn't be general knowledge of what was done to him. I should have the app up in a bit.

Juggtacular

Player Name: Juggtacular
Character Name: Lieutenant Ahran Vos
Image:

Specialty:

Psychometry - About 1 in every 100 Kiffar come to possess Psychometry at some point in their life, with Clan Vos having a slightly higher rate. Psychometry is the ability to "read" the past of an object or a person. So if Ahran were to pick up a blaster, he'd be able to see that blasters past, like who was shot with it and things of that nature. It's not much use in combat, but it does have it's applications. He's still getting used to it as he's only recently discovered the ability.

Cybernetics - Ahran is literally chocked full of cybernetics. From mods to make him faster and stronger, to built in targeting computers in his eyes and more. Sometimes he's convinced he's more machine than man, even if they're all on the inside. He makes full use of them however, as he can't take them out without dying. So he might as well make the best of the situation.

Personality: Ahran used to be happy and bright and chipper. That changed when his life did though. Nowadays he's jaded, gruff, and pretty cynical. He can't help it considering what he's seen and what he was forced to do. However if you earn his respect, and the right to call him friend, he changes a bit. He can be funny(even if his sense of humor is pretty grim), kind, compassionate, and loyal to the point that he'd kill for you. Anyone can die for a friend, it takes real courage to kill for them. One thing that never changed though was his roguish charm. He knows how to put on a smile for the ladies and has left quite a few ports with them chasing behind him.

Brief history:
Not So Brief

Ahran was born into Clan Vos on the plant Kiffu located on the Inner Rim. His father was the current Sheyf of the Kiffu Guardians, and as such Ahran was raised to lead from a young age. Private tutoring, combat training, politics, etc... He was taught all of these things rigorously to make sure he would be a good Clan Leader. He excelled in his studies, and seemed to be on the fast track to success.

However he never got to make his father proud, and he never got to lead his people. On a routine supply run that his father Krellan thought would be good to ride along with to show his son how things worked, they were attacked by Imperials. Kiffu was a valued planet within the Alliance(with them basing training and other tactics off of the Guardians) so attacking such a high ranked individual was unheard of for quite some time.

He was betrayed by a man who wanted more power than he saw himself able to attain through simple hard work, which was how they broke through the early warning defenses. The Imperials hit them fast and hard, disabling their ship with a quick barrage of Ion Blasts. It didn't take long for them to board, and once they were inside the skills of the Guardians didn't seem to matter against the sheer numbers of the Stormtroopers. Men he'd trained with, who'd been like family to him were cut down before his very eyes because the Imperials didn't seem to understand the concept of mercy or even simply focusing on the person they'd come for.

They just killed...everyone. Ahran managed to kill four before a stun bolt knocked him unconscious. He awoke in a cell with his father, who was badly beaten, but still alive. He explained the reason why was because Moff Brelkin wanted to torture and kill him personally. Brelkin had been aboard the ship, and he was the one who stunned Ahran. Several hours later, Brelkin arrived and had both father and son taken to the torture chambers. He took great joy in trying to break Krellan, but less when the man refused to divulge any information about the Alliance or any potential weaknesses.

After making Ahran watch his father being slowly tortured to death, Breklin informed the young man of sixteen that he had impressed him when they stormed the ship. As such, he would be given an opportunity to escape his fathers fate. Join the Empire willingly, or die. What choice did he have? If he died, that wouldn't solve anything. He needed to live; his father would want him to live. He accepted the terms, but just to make sure, Brelkin made sure his training was extra difficult and something akin to brainwashing.

For two years he was put through grueling training to make him even better at killing, and when he turned 18, he was given his first assignment and posting. He was with a small wet works squad deployed in the Outer Rim. Their job was simple. Eliminate anyone in their power found guilty of going against the Empire in any way. He was a very efficient soldier, and his higher ups quickly noticed just how ruthless he could be. He hated every moment, but what choice did he have? Brelkin always kept a close eye on him as he was something of a twisted project for the man.

He saw Ahran's potential true, but he also loved seeing what Krellan had left behind and seeing the barely restrained pain and resentment in his sons eyes when he looked at his killer and was forced to acknowledge him as his master. For five years Ahran unwillingly served the Empire, yet excelled due to the realization that his death would be immediate if he failed. And during those five years, Brelkin kept a hawk eye on him. Finally one day, Ahran was informed that he'd been chosen for a procedure that would make him an even better soldier. He was told only the best were given this treatment.

What he wasn't told was that it was still highly experimental, and the odds of survival were extremely low, even for someone like him. He wasn't told that he'd be the first to undergo the treatment, or that Brelkin just wanted to see if his scientists weren't blowing smoke out of their ears. It didn't really matter though, as it wasn't like he had much choice in the matter. Also to make matters even more painful.

Because the body and brain reacted differently to stimuli when asleep as opposed to being awake...they couldn't sedate him for the procedure. Even with the small bit of anesthetic he was given, he could feel them cutting him open. Shoving cybernetics into his body. He watched as they were implanted into his eyes, he cried from that. He cried more when they peeled back his skin to graft them onto his muscles and bones. The entire procedure took place over the course of nearly two weeks as they crammed every type of cybernetic he could handle into him.

He passed out several times from the near constant agony, and when he did, the surgery would wait until he woke up only to start all over again. They left him in a Bacta tank for a few weeks to recover, and thankfully most of his scars healed. After a recovery period, he was put right back to work and was tested to see how he took to the implants. He performed beyond expectations and was considered a resounding success. But he'd finally had enough. Being turned into a guinea pig on subtle threat of death was the straw that broke the Nerf's back.

On his next assignment, he killed the three soldiers with him and disappeared. They'd worked together for years so they didn't expect for him to turn on them...it was actually pretty easy. He made his way back to the inner rim, back to Kiffu. He'd been listed as KIA along with his father for years at this point. He was welcomed home and fully reinstated to his position as a Guardian and within Clan Vos though. However he got restless soon after. It wasn't long before the need to get back out there and take the fight to the Empire, to find Brelkin and kill him...wormed it's way around his skull. With all the information against the Empire he'd brought back with him, as well as being a member of the Guardians, it wasn't hard for him to get a good position within the GA. Eventually he found himself with Rogue Squadron, and he's been with them ever since. One day he will kill Brelkin though.

Specialty: Evelyn is an expert sniper and can hit almost any target that she wants to. This quality really helps her when she's in her X-wing as well as she's able to track long ranged targets with her eyes.
Personality: When not in combat Evelyn is mischievous, flirtatious, sweet, cheerful and straight up all around nice person to be around. When in combat, Evelyn is all business. She doesn't play when there's business to be done. She's extremely mission first oriented when there's something to be done and doesn't joke around on the job.
Brief history: Evelyn comes from a heritage of the infamous Aurra Sing, bounty hunter and famed Jedi hunter. Aurra is her grandmother, however she didn't spend much time with her as her mother didn't want Granny Aurra's influence to rub off on Evelyn. Evelyn grew up wanting to make a difference in the world. She wanted to be a part of something more than just a waitress on Nar Shaddaa. So when she became of age she left Nar Shadaa seeking a life better than what she had. Seeing that the Alliance was making that sort of difference, she enlisted. Since then she's excelled and showed people that she's a force to be reckoned with. Not force sensitive like her Granny, though she was amazing with a rifle and anything else with a sight and an aiming device. She was able to hit just about any target she chose and continues to do so to this day. After a period of time in her service, Evelyn was recommended to join Rogue Squadron in which she excelled in, standing out among her peers. After demonstrating that she has the skills to pay the bills.

We're still looking for a few more members for Rogue Squadron! Come one come all, we want this to be YOUR epic Star Wars story!
The definition of a hero, at least in my mind, is someone who can protect what is right. To change and stop the wrong. To fight against the forces that seek to destroy you. And, at the very least ... live life well, and enjoy it with those you love.

Vergil Tanner

Ummmm.....I might be interested. I'll have to do some quick maths and decide whether I have the time to pick up a new RP, but if I decide I do...is there a list of species somewhere that I can do my homework on? And what are the ships like in this Canon? Is there a list of ships you want us to pull from? Or can we largely make s**t up? Because I was toying with a character whose speciality isn't necessarily dogfighting, but a "Support" ship that is slightly bigger and bulkier, but offers benefits to nearby ships. For example, if you're near this characters ship, this character can target you with a shield generator that protects your ship some. Not quite to the extent that the Second Death Star was protected by the generator on Endor, but something to that effect.

Basically what I'm asking is twofold:

A) Is a support ship viable/allowed?

2) If so, is there a specific list of ships that you would like us to pick from? Or at least a list of ships that could be present in 60 years time.

Please and thank you! :D

Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by that of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

What you might be looking for is a gunship simmilar to this http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/X4_Gunship
They wouldnt always have a use for it though. Their signature ship would be the Xwing Starfighter, and an Xwing CAN be outfitted to have more support type equipment. As a support type character, when not in an Xwing or gunship i see him or her favoring a Y-Wing. Slower, but heavier shields, bombs and ion cannons.

Ships one may assume Rogue Squadron has at their disposal:
Xwings
Ywings
Awings
Bwings
Vwing airspeeder

this is not a "final" list, there could be other ships added to this list as necessary.

Vergil Tanner

Haha, I wasn't quite thinking on the size of a Gunship per say. I'm not sure about the relative sizes, but I was more thinking about a light-freighter sized ship (kinda like the HWK-290...or hell, the Millenium Falcon! THAT was a modified/upgraded light freighter, and it was a LOT faster than the X-Wings) that had more room for subsystems on it. I mean, yeah, X-Wings can be outfitted with a couple more systems, but they're still one-man fighters that have extremely limited room. Something like a light freighter would be able to at least limp behind the X-Wings....and besides, it was my understanding that X-Wings weren't long-range fighters. They have to dock in a bigger ship to travel long distances, and when won't they have the need for slightly heavier firepower/boosts and supports? I mean...this is the Rogue Squadron, the elites of the entire New Republic, right? One would assume that they had a lot more resources than when they were the aces of a disparate rebel faction, y'know?

Rogue Squadron is stationed on a mobile command center, a frigate known as the Rogue Shadow
Currently Captain Rendar has the Outrider and The Outrunner for the kind of things youre talking about. The Falcon is presently not with Rogue Squadron. We were trying to be careful of "special ships, since we already have The Outrider and the Outrnner.

Vergil Tanner

Oh, I'm not asking to be a special little snowflake that gets to have a heavily modded Slave-1 or Millennium Falcon level ship, I just...I dunno, I'm kind of "X-Winged Out," you know? It's an iconic ship for a reason, but I kinda wanna play something different. Every Star Wars RP I've been in, I've had to play with an X-Wing, which just gets boring after a while. I don't want a huge frigate for my character, or a massive heavy-artillery gunboat. Just...something maybe a touch bulkier than the X-Wing that is sent out with the Squadron for in-the-field support. Maybe it has an external shield generator. Maybe it has some repair bots on board for field repairs. Maybe it has more powerful computers that can't be fitted on an X-Wing, so it can give a few fighters in range extra information that lets them gain target locks faster. Maybe it just has a slot for a slightly bigger gun. I'm not talking MF or Slave-1 sized. Maybe just a two person ship that is more designed for support than dogfighting. *shrug* Is that at all possible, or did you want to keep everybody in the Squadron as a dogfighter?

we would need to see what ship options there are. In general we want people to be the dogfighters/in ships that can stick in formation well.
we gotta see what options are ultimately available to us to see what can be swung. a non dogfighting support may be better tagged as a Rogue Shadow crew member, and not necessarily a Rogue Squadron member [even though that's not out of the question].

here was a thought Ashley had:
Quotehis ship could be a mobile repair ship, using small droids. or could rearm ships. and maybe not a member of rogue squadron, but a civilian member of it. non enlisted and all

the Rogue Shadow crew members are just as important as Rogue Squadron themselves, something to keep in mind.

Well, I was thinking that my character would be a...not a mechanic, since you need to...y'know...be qualified to call yourself a mechanic, but she would know the inside of an engine or computer system like the back of her hand due to a somewhat spotty past. Ex-smuggler, etc etc. Therefore, she would like to tinker and mess around with stuff and modify her ship in little ways just to see what would happen. Nothing major, but...well, it wouldn't be sleek and organised, y'know? It would be a mess of wires and computer systems inside, and she would probably be fiercely protective of "her baby." It would probably be one of the first ships she got upon joining the New Republic, and that she has managed to keep ahold of.

Basically...if she were to be a part of Rogue Squadron, I would probably ask that she be allowed to have a B-Wing/E:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/B-wing/E_starfighter
But modified (by her) so that the gunner position behind her was handled by an Astromech or simple AI program (like, see hostile target, shoot at hostile target) and the rest of the space a normal human would have taken is rigged up with little wires and computers that give her - for example, as Ashley suggested - little repair droids, or enhanced sensors or something. So technically, she's not doing the shooting, she's just flying and providing field repairs or ammo refills (Since I think the B-Wing/E has a small storage space as well) to the ships. It makes her kind of a dogfighter, but keeps her in the support role I originally envisaged.

Or she's - as Ashley suggested - a civilian recruit, and has maybe an old HWK, or maybe a modified GAT-12h (since they were sold to the private market) or something similar.

Just a question; if she were a civilian non-enlisted member, what would her rights on board the ship be? What would her pay be like? Quarters, privileges, etc etc?

I would prefer the former, but I can work with the Latter. If neither are acceptable, I'll scrap the idea and try to think of something else.

If it helps, I was thinking of using Jewel Staite as my characters Faceclaim..... *innocent face*

Also, question:
In your list of ships above, you didn't list E-Wings. Are E-Wings a thing in this chronology? I didn't want one, I'm just curious, haha.

And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

a ship like that is more than possible, i see no problem with it.
as for Ewings, iirc they ended up flopping overall compared to the Xwing, so they ended up not really used.
Non enlisted, though employed, members on the ship would have limited access on the ship, aka mission rooms, restricted access in privileged information, etc. most of the members of the Rogue Shadows crew though ARE enlisted. Rogue Squadron members are minimum Ensign in the Alliance Navy. Rendar is the only Captain

Wooooooooooo!!! I'll start whipping up a bio :D It's 2am here, sooooo I might end up falling asleep before I finish it. >.> I'll have it up by the end of Sunday at the latest. :D

It was Jewel Staite that swayed you, wasn't it? *winkwinknudgenudge*

Thank yooooou! :D

As for E-wings...according to the sources I've looked at, they initially flopped so didn't replace X-Wings, but once the kinks were worked out, they did see widespread use. Hang on, I'll see if I can pull up the page...

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/E-wing_escort_starfighter

Quote:

"Despite the initial problems, improved models of the E-wing would see wide spread use by the New Republic, particularly by the Fifth Fleet, and later by the Galactic Alliance. They would play a significant role in every engagement from the Black Fleet Crisis, through the Yuuzhan Vong War, and beyond.
By the time of the Second Galactic Civil War, the E-wing had matured into an excellent starfighter design and equipped several elite squadrons of the Galactic Alliance. However, it never achieved the same popularity or wide spread use as the X-wing."

And I think Rogue Squadron did have some E-Wings at some point. I think. It's up to you, obviously, I was just under the impression that there were E-wings here and there, even though the X-Wings were more popular. It depends where in the chronology we are, though, I guess. Haha.

And ah, okey dokey! Yes, I would prefer my little tinkerer to be enlisted, haha. So I shall whip up a bio for her and her modded B-Wing/E at some point in the next day or so. :D

You know what I realised after all of that? That Ashley's character is also a mechanic. D'OH! Shoulda read the concept bios more closely. Well, I reworked her concept a little bit so that although they overlap, they're not the same character. So instead of mechanics - like Ashley's character - mine is more of an engineer/computing tinkerer. Keeps the spirit alive, and hopefully doesn't clash too much. Sorry Ashley!

Player Name: Vergil Tanner, but please call me Vergil. Or "Master." Either/or.
Character Name: Kayda Vendar [Note: May not actually be her "real" name. She's used so many, she's forgotten which one was her original one...but she likes Kayda, so she's sticking with it!]

Faceclaim: Jewel Staite

Specialty: Kayda is...strange. She was never formally trained as an engineer or mechanic, and as far as she knows, neither of the people she thinks were her parents were mechanics or computing engineers or even DIY specialists, and yet...she loves to tinker. She likes to open things up and try and figure out how they work, and even if she can't, she'll then try to put it back together just to see if she can, or what would happen if she did it slightly differently. She's not about to say that she can "see" how everything fits together or how it all works, because she can't; she has to take something apart to try and see how it all works, and even then, sometimes she can't. But it's all about the experience, and the more she does it, the more she learns. What she would say she specialises in is tinkering and "customisation." Every piece of equipment she has with her has likely been opened up and fiddled with several hundred times to try and put something new into it, or to tweak its systems, or even just to see what makes it tick. This makes her well-versed in engineering, but....well, don't let her near anything you want back. Sometimes the things she tinkers with work. Sometimes they catch fire. Either/or.
When out in the field, Kayda specialises in Heavy Support; her ship is more durable than most others, and even though she isn't that good a shot, she's rigged an AI program up to do that sorta thing for her so she can focus on what she IS good at; making sure her friends don't get themselves killed. Her modded starfighter has on hand a couple of unique little systems (the ones that didn't explode upon being switched on) that help her friends and comrades in the field, and she isn't shy about handing out help liberally. She does expect some thanks later on, though! Whether that takes the form of a pudding pot or a "thank you work out" really depends on the person.

Ship: Kayda flies "Scrappy," A modified B-Wing/E, a two-seater version of the standard B-Wing. Whilst faster and more durable than its counterpart, it's notably less manoeuvrable which makes it a little harder to handle in a dogfight. Luckily for her, the Gunner Seat is occupied by her long-time friend and co-pilot, R5-J03 (or "Joe" for short), a modified R5 series Astromech that she found early in her...seedier...life. He has been her constant companion for years, and thanks to extensive tinkering and modding (a few fires notwithstanding), she has managed to install a surprisingly advanced AI system into the originally budget little guy. She flies, he shoots...and the extra space that would have been taken up with a human is instead linked up to a whole mess of extra computers and wires that interface with Joe's subsystems to provide extra functionality to the starship and the computing power required to activate her uniquely added extra systems. These can vary depending on how she's tinkered with it recently, but the more common systems are a small host of repair bots - installed to both provide personal basic repairs and to help patch up damaged fighters in the field - extra energy for certain types of weapons stored in the cargo hold, or advanced sensors that can help nearby ships gain a target lock a little faster. Whereas everybody elses ships may be sleek and pristine, the inside of Kayda's ship is a forest of wires and screens...but there is some method to her madness, and she always seems to know exactly where everything is.

Personality: Kadya is supremely bubbly, cheerful, energetic and outgoing always ready with a joke or a flirtatious comment to attempt to lighten the mood. Though she suffers bouts of disappointment or petulance if things don't go her way, expect her to soon bounce back with a brand new round of sunniness and cheer that could make a rainbow vomit from nausea. She is friendly, cheerful and fiercely loyal to her friends, and surprisingly free with her sexuality; as she says, "it gets cold out there, so what's the harm in keeping warm with somebody every now and then?" Her cheerfulness can start grating sometimes, but she never lets those pouty-pants dampen her bubbly nature...when things get bad, just grin and find a way to fix it all! Getting sad and angry never helped anybody, after all. :-) Always look on the bright side! :D

Brief history: Perhaps surprisingly for such a youthful and cheerful individual, Kayda wasn't always a member of the New Republic. She spent her early life as a street urchin on one of the many Pirate Dens that sprung up in the aftermath of the fall of the Galactic Empire after her parents were killed by a local mobsters Enforcer for not paying their "Protection Money." She managed to evade their capture and spent her life in the gutters of the small Den until she was eventually caught stealing some food from a passing "Merchant" when in her early teens. It turned out, the merchant was actually a smuggler who trafficked in "Human Cargo," and who was on his way to a business dealing elsewhere. He caught her, bundled her into his ship and took off with the intent to add her to his sale as a "Special Extra..." and that's if she was lucky. After a journey spent cramped up with the rest of the unfortunate souls, they landed at their destination and were hauled off the ship and into line to travel to the Slave Markets. Just as they were entering the market proper....all hell broke loose. Gunfire erupted, people started to scream, sounds of fighting emerged from the centre of the grounds and smoke began to rise from ahead of her. Panicked, Kayda took the distraction of the guards for the opportunity it was and bolted as soon as she could, having been working on the locks on her manacles for months. She later learned that the New Republic had learned of the slave auction and had decided to "crash the party," but she was too far away by the time it ended for them to find or free her from captivity. So, panicking, she darted into a side street and just kept running, hoping against hope that she wasn't being followed. After what felt like hours of running, she stopped, looked around...and realised that she was alone, in an unfamiliar place, penniless and defenceless. This time, however, she wouldn't just be a thief and a beggar. She would at least find some way to defend herself.

After spending several weeks scoping out the city and making sure she knew her way around, listening in to conversations and watching the movements of the city carefully, she identified a low-to-mid level Streetboss known as "Jacknife" who was in the middle of a turf war and was looking for new recruits. Figuring that her only other option was to die on the streets from starvation...she joined up. There, her talent for stealing and her propensity for tinkering with anything she could find earned her a reputation for surprising people, and her surprisingly sunny disposition accompanied by her developing looks earned her a future in the gang. She grew from her early teens to her early twenties running with the Streetgang, stealing and breaking into homes and selling spare parts and pretty much doing whatever she had to to survive, getting good at fooling people with her hands, learning how to hotwire vehicles and how to tamper with engines and machinery and how to take things apart and put them back together, how to jerry rig parts out of seeming scrap and how to make do when you didn't have the tools you needed. Life was rough, it was dangerous and she didn't know from one day to the next whether she was going to survive another week...but that was liberating, in a way. She was free, she was with friends and you didn't worry about tomorrow. You smiled, you laughed, you fought, you got hurt...and you picked yourself up and carried on going as best you could. Yeah, it wasn't the best life, but it was the best one she had known. It was during this time that she found Joe scrapped in the back of some backalley skip...she and the gang were hiding from the local authorities after a job had gone south, when she moved her arm and ended up elbowing him. The clang almost got them caught, but Kayda saw the little Astromech and instantly fell in love. After the group had escaped, she circled back, fished the little droid from the trash, and ended up working on him every night she could. She got him working on the eve of her 17th birthday, and he has never left her side since. Life was...ok. She was content.

Until, one day...she slipped up. The group had gotten desperate; the growing power of the New Republic had led to a crackdown on crime, making it harder for the group to steal what they needed to survive. Every week, more and more of them were getting caught and incarcerated, and the numbers were dwindling. Jacknife himself had taken a laserblast to the side just the previous month and died of his injuries. Things were getting bad. So....they decided to hit something far more daring and dangerous than ever before. They hit a weapons shipment coming in from the manufacturers from a nearby colony with the intent of selling them on to the local mob boss in exchange both for credits, and for protection and work. If they could get in good with the crimelord, then maybe they would be given new direction and protection from dwindling further. Kayda was a young woman now, pretty and fairly charismatic. So her job was to distract the guards while her friends stole whatever they could carry, then slip away before they noticed. Everything was going well...until Troya, a younger member of the group, accidentally tripped an alarm. The rest of the group got away....but Kayda wasn't so lucky. When fleeing, she accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up facing a dead-end. She was dragged before the authorities...and was confronted with a New Republic Captain, whose weapons shipment she had tried to steal. She had thought herself destined for prison...until the Captain offered her a deal. Apparently, the New Republic was starting an experimental rehabilitation program that would take in first-time offenders (since she hadn't been caught yet, she was technically a first-timer in the authorities eyes since they couldn't connect her to anything else) and streetkids and attempt to give them marketable skills. It was either that, or prison. And since the only prison on the planet was unisex...well, she enjoyed sex, but she didn't enjoy it enough to relish the thought of being one of the only women in a low-security building with hardened criminals. So she accepted. She was shipped off world...and found a new life. She threw herself into the new opportunity, doing her best to hone her skills - though she never lost her penchant for tinkering, and always had Joe with her, by her side - and not get kicked out...and she loved it.

Several years later, she finally graduated the rehabilitation school as one of the first successful graduates from her Sector, with a lot of fond memories and good friends from the Rehabilitation Academy. Now in her mid-twenties, she could go anywhere with a glowing recommendation from the Academy and a host of new, basic-level skills and a proper education. And what did she decide to do? Well, after everything the New Republic had done for her - and the fact that she was already used to a life on the move with a tight-knit group of fighters - she joined the Republic Navy. She joined as an Ensign, then rose up the ranks to Lieutenant and after proving herself a rather adept pilot - and proving that her modified Joe wasn't just a hunk of junk - she was given authorisation to pilot a B-Wing/E that had recently become available after its last pilot had been promoted away from the frontlines. She took Scrappy happily, and swiftly turned it into the mess of wires and extra parts it is today...and, after being transferred to the Rogue Squadron almost a year ago, she's the happiest she's ever been in her life. She's young - she hasn't even hit thirty yet! - she's pretty, she has the ability to tinker whenever she wants, she has her own quarters, she has her best friend of over a decade by her side, and she's surrounded by hunky military men and women. So what's there not to like?! And THAT'S why she's always cheerful...she knows that it can be worse, and no matter how bad it is, she'll always have Joe and she'll always have the knowledge that she could easily have been somewhere far, far worse.

There we go! Hope that's to your liking! It's pretty late, so I had to cut it short in places. I'm gonna go to bed, then expand on it at a later date. :-)

Let me know if it's acceptable please, or whether it needs changing! :-)

I very much appreciate you augmenting your character so we don't overlap to much. They would actually work together a lot, I would suspect.

Also

I love the fact Kaylee is now in Rogue Squadron! Shiny!
The definition of a hero, at least in my mind, is someone who can protect what is right. To change and stop the wrong. To fight against the forces that seek to destroy you. And, at the very least ... live life well, and enjoy it with those you love.

Vergil Tanner

You're very welcome :-) I didn't want to step on your toes or overfill any positions, so I figured a re-focus was in order. :-)

So do I! I reckon Tifa would be the person they go to to get their stuff fixed, and if she got stuck or needed fresh eyes, she'd ask Kayda. Nobody would go to Kayda first; there's a fifty fifty chance that what you want fixed would burst into flames because she wanted to see if she could add a waffle iron to a watch or something silly like that. XD

Seriously, though, I agree. They have slightly different areas, but they're very similar in that they like to tinker. Maybe Tifa helped Kayda fix Scrappy when it started having some power issues due to some faulty wiring somewhere? That would be a good bonding exercise, especially for Kayda...normally, she doesn't let anybody except Joe touch Scrappy. :P

And lol, I know, right?! :D I was thinking "I want a bubbly, upbeat, tinkering mechanic/engineer..." and then I instantly thought of Kaylee! Let's hope nobody gags her and bundles her into the hold for a month, though. That would be so totally not shiny. >.>

Ships one may assume Rogue Squadron has at their disposal:
Xwings
Ywings
Awings
Bwings
Vwing airspeeder

Would the StealthX variant of Xwings be available? They were mostly used by Jedi but with the right setup could probably work with Rogue Squadron as well. Figured it'd fit in well since my character will be pretty stealth based in general.

apygoos

StealthX would be a variation/modification that would definitely be available to them.
I was reminded of the Kwing  in a PM as well.

Character Sheet:
Player Name:Landshark
Character Name: Jamus Piett
Image:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
(Tobias Eaton, Face Claim)
Specialty: Lightning calculator. (Jamus can compute numbers almost as fast as a computer. He made his way up the ranks by calculating bombing runs in his head for maximum effect before ever stepping into a simulator or field run.)
Personality: Jamus is actually a very nice guy but he keeps it hidden due to all the trouble the name Piett gets him into. He assumes people wont like him because of his family history so he tends to be short and blunt with people until he has plenty of time to get to know them. Hard to anger but long of memory Jamus doesn’t fight he retaliates. Guarding his friends with a fierceness that is seldom seen from a “nobleman”.

Brief history :
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Even after the fall for the Empire the Piett family was able to hold a position of privilege. Their many varied interest and wide spread finances kept the family from going under. Sure they lost almost all positions of power but the family survived. Still holding a minor title of nobility they were able to work what influence they had into a strong financial foothold and to this day are known as chief financiers of many small and up coming companies.

Jamus was born into the family at its new height. Not the military power it had once been but that didn’t seem to bother most of the core family. Many of the branches had changed their name as they found it too difficult to get by with the stigma left behind of their recent ancestor. Jamus is the great great grandson of Admiral Firmus Piett, commander of what was known as the Imperial Death Squadron and Captain of Lord Vaders Flag ship. Jamus was not allowed to forget his heritage as everyone was more than willing to remind him of it. Even though his family had been loyal republic citizens for over 50 years they were still hated and kept under suspicion by many.

Knowing he didn’t want to be just another desk jockey at Piett and Associates, he took his leap into the military. He knew it would be harder than anything he had ever done. Only some people knew the family name out in the world but in the academy most everyone would. They still taught the battle of Endor in strategic classes after all. Jamus discovered that the exile and ridicule actually drove him though. Surpassing most of his classmates he graduated second in his class and had his choice of deployments. He could have gone into exploration but with his name he doubted they would jump at the chance to have him be part of any kind of first contact. He could have been assigned to bridge command on a number of vessels but once again he doubted he would ever rise above lieutenant. Then at the bottom of the list was Special Operations. Jamus knew what his choice was.

Over the next year he learned to fly everything from planetary drop ships to boarding vessels including a wide array of fighter craft. What he excelled at though was the bomber. With his head for numbers and strategic overlay it was a perfect fit. The B-Wing had gone through a host of upgrades over the last few decades and Jamus knew that no one would hold his lineage against him as a fighter jock. This was where he needed to be if he ever wanted to make his own name.

Two years later Jamus found himself one of the most called up bomber pilots in the fleet. His name, though still not popular, was asked for by wing commanders on assignment and he was a flight chief in training. That’s when a pilot with no rank or identifying badges showed up and offered him a chance to be one of the best. What could Jamus say but yes. Twelve hours later he was being reassigned and shuttled away to get his shot at Rogue Squadron.

EDIT: just noticed we have a b-wing pilot already. Would you preffer i switch him to an recon x-wing? Super fast less guns.

Landshark

Hope this is to your liking. I also had an idea about a logistics support character who is a squib. If that seems to weird lemme know. Basically would be the go to guy. Whatever you need he can deal, trade or simply aquire it more than likely.

Landshark

Sooo...I guess this is full then? Dead? Characters not approvable?

apygoos

sorry, ive been extreamly busy in the past week. The character looks good to me. As for the game im still waiting on people to get their first post in before i push us full steam ahead.

Lustful Bride

So is this still open? Id love to toss in an A or Y wing pilot.  :-)

apygoos

Landshark

So can i stay with the B -wing or would you preffer an adaption to an x-wing recon?

apygoos

either ship is acceptable, its entirely up to you.

Landshark

So should I just jump in with him at the current event then?

apygoos
