Brought to my notice by Veks. What an amazing day for mankind

She led me to safety in a forest of green, and showed my stale eyes some sights never seen.
She spins magic and moonlight in her meadows and streams, and seeks deep inside me,
and touches my dreams. - Harry Chapin

Let mankind never cease to continue sending long, hard shafts filled with fluid thrusting deep into the nether regions of space.

Azy

I got to see a launch from a distance when I was in Florida earlier this month.  Someone said it was a bunch of satellites that has something to do with the internet.  When the launch happened I was in a tour van on the Florida Turnpike, and we all watched it go up.  Kinda cool.

Sad news from South Africa, as Desmond Tutu has died at the age of 90 today.

Sara Nilsson

Sad. He was one of the truly greats. Even back in the 90s he supported trans rights. And one of the few that dared speak up against how Israel is treating the Palestinian people.

When was the last good day for human rights in Russia? 1861?

Depends on your ethnicity and religion.

Keelan

Per CNN:

Quote[Ghislaine] Maxwell, 60, was found guilty of five federal charges: sex trafficking of a minor, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and three related counts of conspiracy.

She was acquitted on the charge of enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts.

TheGlyphstone

Was there any real chance she'd be acquitted of any of it?

TheGlyphstone

Other than the last one, that is.

Looks like there's fires in the Boulder, Colorado area. My company is headquartered in Denver and I know at least one of my colleagues out there had to be evacuated. Everyone in the area be safe!

If there is such a phenomenon as absolute evil, it consists in treating another human being as a thing.

All three men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery is getting life. The father and son without parole and the third can can get it after having served 30 years.

Hades

And considering that the one who is eligible for parole is 51 now, his sentence is effectively a life sentence as well unless he has good genes and health care.

Good riddance to the lot of them, I actually saw a recording of the the moment the rulings were read out in court by the judge, you could see the regret on those guys faces when they heard the verdict. "Guilty." totally deserved.

First successful hear transplant using a pig heart instead of a human heart. This could be great start in the future of medicine and hopefully start reducing the weight on some of the transplant waiting lists
