Tales of the Drow

Note: While this is a game set in the Underdark, Forgotten Realms, it does not require heavy knowledge of the setting. Familiarity with just some concepts, which will be described here, is enough. The game will not take place in a cannon location.

During 8th century DR, long before Drizzt Do’Urden was alive, scouts from the dark elf city of Menzoberranzan have discovered a new tunnel route that led to the surface. This tunnel was also used by Duergars, the dark dwarves and a few other races of Underdark. A small trade post named Querthin was established here, run together in a fragile peace between the Drow, Duergar, and some traders from the surface realms. Neither party had the strength to break the peace or control the situation after an armed conflict.

This is the tale of the drow elves, their slaves and allies who try to run the Drow Lounge and survive in Querthin.

Introduction

Welcome everyone,

In this game, you’ll be playing drow members of House Baenre, some of their slaves and a few mercenaries who help them establish a proper drow lounge in Querthin, a fictional small trade port tunnel in Underdark, Forgotten Realms.

Drow have a highly hierachic, mathernal regime. Drow females are always more important than drow males. A male master sorceror needs to show respect even to a low-level drow priestess. But when adressing a male from a higher rank, female drows also need to consider twice before making enemies with him. Females insulting males of any rank are a common thing though.

While these rules are much more strict in drow cities like Menzoberranzan, here in Querthin things run at a more “flexible” mood. Remember this is a very far and small trade post. Each and every member of the lounge, be it drow or slave is important and useful for the survival. Members of Querthin drow lounge know this and act accordingly. While an open insult to a female or master would still be punished by death, there is also no iron grasp on both males and slaves. One point; slave females have no importance, a drow male can treat her how he sees fit.

The drow worship a spider-goddess named Lloth. She is pure evil and loves conspiracy and chaos, but never openly. She wants respect to females and to high ranked people among her children but she loves it if you scheme a plot, take the place of your superior and leave no trace behind. If your scheme is discovered too early though, prepare for a bitter judgement.

The Game Concept

The game will be mostly sandbox and players will have complete freedom over the matters. No dice rolling required, no sysyem. Talk about them and get the game going as you wish. As the GM, I will only interfere to establish consequences for your big scale actions, if a huge event occurs or if two rival characters really need my judgement to solve matters between them. For example, after some negotiations the lounge makes an alliance with Duergars. Good, do that. Duergars will be allied. Then you push the limits by putting a spy in dark dwarves. Fine, the spy is all working. These are all ok if there is a good story behind. And at last, you want to crush Duergars from within and out. Set up for attack and start it. This is where GM will come into play and declare some consequences.

As for sexual stuff, drow are generally sadistic and their tastes cover a wide range. Torture, rough, bondage, concentual, all are here. Just tell your Ons and Offs in your char sheet and your partner can treat you accordingly. I really don’t know, this game can either be a fight for survival or some crazy sex story. A mix of both is what I prefer, but as players, you will decide it in the end.

Me? Well, I’ll just play some character. My guy won’t be someone very important. Maybe a trader or scout, maybe drow maybe not. He will not be one of the leading characters, just for my part of fun. I’ll design him just before we start, depending on needs of game.

Posting Frequency: At least once per week. If you run silent for a month, you’ll be checked and if you’re not able to continue, your character will be put to rest.

Drow Lounge Composition

The drow in lounge are all members of House Baenre, the ruling house of the drow city, Menzoberranzan. They are specifically selected for this quest and sent here and their true ranks among the members of the city is not so much important. What matters is the hierarchy here in Querthin. High priestess is maybe the lowest level priestess in entire house. No matter, she is the queen of the lounge and this game.

There are also slaves of House Baenre, hand picked to serve at the lounge. A few mercenaries, both drow and non-drow also serve the lounge. There are the drow guards of the lounge, not many, just to ensure the lounge is guarded well. And lastly, there are a good number of goblin slaves, both workers and soldiers of the drow. Guards and goblin slaves are not needed to be played, but if you insist, sure, go ahead and play them. All other groups, I will need players to run them.

The house members are obviously all drows. Slaves and mercenaries can cover a wide range of races, be it drow, duergar, human, elf, dwarf, minotaur etc. As for exotic races like Ilithids, I ask players to avoid them for now, for the sake of simplicity.

Playable Characters
(Note that these are just vague ideas, all can change according to player’s wish. So just tell that if you like to play a different character and change things.)

Drow Members of House Baenre
High Priestess (lounge leader, female, and for the spirit of the game, this is the only character that I ask be run by a player of same gender)
Master Sorceror (any gender, most powerful sorceror of lounge)
Weaponsmaster (any gender, best warrior of lounge, head of armed forces)
House Member I (any class and gender, priestess maybe?)
House Member II (any class and gender, scout maybe?)
House Member III (any class and gender, trader maybe?)

Slaves of Drow Lounge
Slave I (any class, race and gender, slave chief maybe?)
Slave II (any class, race and gender, scout maybe?)
Slave III (any class, race and gender, bodyguard maybe?)

Mercenaries that work for the Drow
Mercenary I (any class, race and gender, trader maybe?)
Mercenary II (any class, race and gender, sorceror maybe?)

More players are always welcome, but let’s try to fill in the blank spots in drows, slaves and mercenaries first ok? When they’re mostly filled we can open more slots for the groups. Still, for characters like members of Duergar Lounge, other trader parties and members of other Drow houses; these options are not available. (For the sake of good development and control over the game) But who knows what future will bring?

We can start this when we have like 3 house members, 2 slaves and 1 mercenary.

Here’s a little character sheet;

Name: Obvious
Race: Obvious
Position: Give me something, he’s at the top, mid or low level, after we start I’ll do a hierarchy ranking.
Appereance: A couple of sentences are fine.
History: At least one good paragraph.
Ons: Few words or a list, your choice.
Offs: Few words or a list, your choice.
Foreseen Frequency: How long should we wait for a post from you? This is important for players that will interact. Once a week? Twice? Everyday?
Image or Images:Obvious

Post your char here or PM me, whatever you wish.

That’s all for now. Let's see if we can get this rolling...

ooo I love drows so much I named my kid after one. so of course I'm interested.

Barbarian

Wonderful! Thank you for interest. 2 or 3 more people and I guess we can start discussing characters...

VonDoom

Interested, possibly for a character in the position of Weaponsmaster. Is a character with Pathfinder Magus type abilities fine for that, or would a purely martial character be better?

Xanatos

Can I lay claim to High Priestess? I do so enjoy playing Drow.

Oh and I should ask, is PvP allowed without player consent or do players have to agree to go at one another before hand? Its one thing if characters plot against one another, but entirely different to actually enact a plot and effect another character.

Barbarian

I have nothing to do with players playing any gender, but as I stated in the main post, the High Priestess character is the only female character that I would prefer be portrayed by a female player, for the respect to the drow society and the spirit of the game.  :-) She is the only one though, any player can play any char from any gender other than the High Priestess. I hope you don't get angry with me...

Xanatos

Okay. I'll consider other options then. Perhaps a Priestess then, if I am understanding correctly. Hmm, maybe Master Sorcerer. I didn't catch any limits on genders. Perhaps I read through it too quickly.

I edited in this my previous post, but hadn't seen your reply at the time, so I'll repost this here.

"Oh and I should ask, is PvP allowed without player consent or do players have to agree to go at one another before hand? Its one thing if characters plot against one another, but entirely different to actually enact a plot and effect another character. "

Barbarian

Yeah I replied too quick :)

Anyone can plot against any other. When it comes to the actual effects of the plot and someone needs to get hurt somehow, talk about it between yourself. If all are ok with the plot and if you come up with some kind of solution, go ahead and play as it is. If you could not agree, then I will decide the effects of the plot and inform you of the consequences, so you can make your posts along that line.

Xanatos

So it sounds like a mix? PvP is allowed, but is generally sorted by the players. With you having final word if need be. Hmm... that's different. I'll have to think on that. I've had horrible experiences with PvP, so its a huge issue for me in RP's.

I'm aware Drow are intrigue related, but open PvP in Drow games never ends well for the game. Anyway, I could go, but I'll consider what I'll do.

Thanks.

Barbarian

This is the best way I've seen in online RPs so far. I don't like systems and dice-rolling and stuff in here, do something, talk to each other, come to a conclusion like; "in the end I'll take your position, you'll be heavily wounded but not killed, you run and hide until the time is right. cool? cool." I'll only come into play if it's really needed.

But for this game, yes these are drow, of course there'll be PvP plotting and stuff but remember this is a game of survival, you're trying to run a lounge in a highly uncontrolled, unstable place so there'll be a situation like "take down the enemy first before we hit each other"

Xanatos

No, no. I understand what you meant. I'm just used to either no PvP outright or the players agree to PvP or no PvP and that's the end of it. I've never run into a middle of the ground, sorts, by the sound of what your saying. Unless I am totally misunderstanding. Which is possible, its late for me. Heh.

Plotting itself is not a problem. The actual PvP (the end result of the plotting) is an issue for me, and thus I always bring it up in games like this, because a lot of players fail to keep their personal emotions in check when their character is attacked/potentially hurt/killed by another PC. Its ruined more games than I can remember. It also tends to happen in games where people aren't expecting it. Thus another reason for failure to keep emotions in check. Thus why I also like to bring up the question.

So all that said, in the end no matter what else, is player death left up to the players consent? Or do you as GM reserve the right to off a character for dramatic/story purposes?

Barbarian

Player death is up to players. If the dying char's player agree, it is ok. If not, then no death.

We are all playing this for fun, not for beating other. I personally would love a heroic death for my char after pages of played story. Not everyone may agree. So in case of PvP it's best to discuss before things actually come to hurt/kill.

Elf

Okay, definitely interested in this already have a character that might some tweaking to play one of the merc's. Has been surviving as an assassin for most of his adult life most in the upper world. A personal quest would brought him to the underdark. I will work on what changes need to be made shortly.

Amarlo

I plan to play some sort of slave. From what I've discussed with Barbarian the slaves would have been specially picked to be useful to the group, but I'm not fond of being passed around to much. So if anyone is interested in discussing a character with me that would be their personal slave (But would have skills to overall help the group) please feel free to message me!

I was thinking of a female weaponsmaster who values usefulness in people over anything else (and probably earns some flak for it), so the concept might be compatible? A quick glance at your o&o's shows no interest in f/f, but not every slave ever has to serve as a sexual plaything for the owner.

Hello, Bubby. This could be interesting.

Lol.. hey Elf. Not this time around it seems. Have fun though, it looks like this will be great! Been awhile since a good Drow/elf type game was around!

Oh, you won't be joining us after all. That is a shame.

Barbarian

bubby would be great for High Priestess, if only she could be more active...

This brings up my few High Priestess player specifications;
1. Be nearly co-GM to me. Expect heavy PM traffic both with me and other players.
2. Be able to make like two posts a week.
3. Be female.
4. Be familiar with the concept of drow. (Reading what I've written in first post is enough) No need for very detailed knowledge.

If you think you're the one, then come on and hit us!

So, let's make a count then;

Amarlo (slave)
abandoneddolly
VonDoom (weaponmaster)
Xanatos
Elf (mercenary assassin)
Barbarian

We have reached a good number, so I guess we can start making character sheets. PM the sheets to me once they're ready (take your time though, there's no rush) and I'll add them to an OOC thread that I'll make soon.

What we really need is a High Priestess. Once we have all the char sheets ready, I'll slowly start this game.

To everyone that has already jumped into the game, thank you all and I'm waiting for char sheets! To possible new players, come on and join the "Tales of the Drow" from the very start!

Elf

Ah I see, yes, while Bubby is an excellent writer from my experience she is lucky to get a post up in two weeks. If you want two a week she is not really the best choice.

This looking very good and I am looking forward to it.

abandoneddolly

I'm still trying to think what I want to be probbaly a slave.
While I love drow, I don't think I have the ability to pull off playing one very good.

Thank you for the offer but the point of picking one primary master for her was so she wasn't open to everyone sexually. xD

Definitely look forward to plotting together. If for some reason the powers that be don't allow for the merc half-breed to have his own slave. We could work out something where he takes a strong liking to her and being selfish promises a very painful death to any other that might touch his favorite slave, so she only has to serve his pleasures while still performing her duties to the lounge.

What skills will she have that make valuable to lounge? Maybe the only reason she is there is because my guy already had her, could not bring himself to leave her behind and so brought her with him from the upper world. That way they would get his abilities and hers just for his price.

VonDoom

Sorry, I probably should have elaborated more, Amarla -- if your slave is useful, she'd essentially receive more privileges than otherwise with my character and could likely make the exact same request in character and then later find someone she'd like to get involved with. But it's fine if you'd rather straight up have a male master for her.

Edit: that reminds me, since Drow tend to engage quite heavily with fiends, what's your take on a drow-tiefling and the social implications thereof?

"If you get hurt, hurt them back. If they kill you... walk it off."

SpiralSpider

Name: Xulena Baenre
Race: Drow
Position: High Priestess
Appereance: While not the most beautiful of drow females, Xulena sports the typical build - that is, larger than the typical male's. In fact, she's quite tall and broad, even for females. Standing at close to six feet, one might be hard pressed to find more than a handful of her kind that were as solidly built. Her eyes are brown, rather than the usual red, and tend show the hues of a dark ale, catching amber in firelight. Her hair is the expected white, kept shoulder-length for manageability. Generally Xulena dresses for comfort and practicality, though she has been known to dress for ritual - or intimidation - should it be needed.
History: It's a highly guarded secret of the first house of Menzoberranzan that they would, on rare occasions, pad their ranks by absorbing the priestesses of a failing house into their own. Xulena was one of these lucky few, if such a thing could be said. Before the fall of her house, she had been called Zilva. But that was so long ago that she could scarcely remember her previous house's name, if pressed. It matters not anymore, however, having been gifted an entirely new identity shortly before obtaining the rank of high priestess of Lloth. The old house had not existed since that day, it's name was never to be spoken again. Still, it filled her with a sort of bitter amusement to think that no one asked twice about her heritage, after all she looked nothing like the rather diminutive Yvonnel, the Matron of house Baenre, nor any of the men she had known to consort with.

Truth be told, she who used to be Zilva adored strength and competitions thereof. All things being equal, she would have loved a chance to pursue a warrior's life. But, of course, nothing was equal in Drow society, least of all career paths. Her family had four priestesses to boast of, herself included, but they lost their Matron in the heat of the battle with another house and she was the only one to be offered a sort of asylum within the first house. At first, saying goodbye to her old house and identity was no trouble, that is until she realized the increased responsibility that came with being a member, however lowly, of the first house.

Baenre's count of priestesses was very large and ever growing, a definite part of their matron's bragging rights and a way to keep their rank within the city. If Xulena thought she'd have it easy as just a new figure-piece, she was wrong. In fact, as the newest family member, she had a lot more to do than any other. There was new etiquette, new protocol to learn, and she found herself delegated back to playing babysitter for far longer than she had in her old house. She'd have cursed her new matron's ongoing fertility if she'd been stupid enough to believe she'd get away with even thinking it.

Perharps it was that Yvonnel had picked up on Xulena's quiet seething, even though she hadn't given her so much as one word of opposition, or perhaps it was that obedience in stead that had her sent off to Querthin. It was both a blessing and a curse, to some extent. It allowed her a chance at real authority, but at the same time... who cared about some small trading post so far from the city?

Ons: pain, power struggle, long hair, men who are smaller than her (not a particularly difficult feat!), women of all kinds, and for some reason she is particularly titillated by the idea of romance and actual devotion from love, rather than fear.

She loves signs of survival and triumph over danger; scars, prosthesis, etc...

Offs: Non-con (what's the fun in forcing someone to lay with you? Dub-con is OK, as is political favors.), bodily waste, dead/non-sentient undead, children.

Foreseen Frequency: I can't promise to be here every day, but every other day seems very possible. There's one weekend this month (27th-29th) that I'll be offline and another next month. Those are the only exceptions I know of though.

And we at last have a High Priestess.  :-) She's wonderful, I loved Xulena!

Ok then, Xanatos had mentioned he could not be available for a week or so. All others, please send me your char sheets (or post here) some time so we can hopefully start this game. New players are also welcome, current char list is;

Amarlo (slave)
abandoneddolly
VonDoom (weaponmaster)
Xanatos
Elf (mercenary assassin)
Barbarian
Spiral Spider (High Priestess)

I'll make my char according to chars of abandoneddolly and Xanatos. It'll be a slave or drow house member, I'll look at the needs. Right now, more house members and slaves would be good rather than mercenaries.

VonDoom

Thanks, that's what I needed. One last question, though, since I've seen conflicting views on that and it would affect her background: in general, are they considered 'blessed' since those matings are sacred rituals and all or looked down upon because they're not pure Drow?

I should have my character ready today or tomorrow.

As the GM of this game, I don't want to impose that kind of detail about your characters. Do it as you wish :-)

But as a common guy, I would say most drow would look down to a drow-tiefling, she could be announced as "blessed" by house elders and thus, receive respect in open, but in the shadows, if I were a pure-drow, I would not really like her :-)

Elf

Welcome Spiral, Yeah! for high priestess, Xulena looks awesome.

Here is my CS which I have already sent on to Barbarian.

Name: Zentius Yerodin
Nickname: the Nightterror, Terror
Race: half-drow (Half human & half dark elf)
Age: 27
Gender: male
Sexuality: heterosexual
Position: Mercenary
Occupation: Assassin
Class: Psionicist
Appearance: Height: 5’7” Weight: 128 lbs
Hair: shoulder length white hair usually worn in a ponytail
Skin: charcoal black
Eyes: jet black (can become red almost demonic in appearance)
General appearance: wears black studded leather armor, black knee high leather boots with a soft sole, black soft leather gloves, and a long dark cloak with hood usually up to hide his face.

Background:
He was born the product of a rape, a drow raid on small human village, the commander of the raiding party raped a sixteen year old girl and left her for dead. Well she didn’t die and gave birth to Zentius 9 months later. She raised him out of responsibility, but never loved him. When he was 14 he discovered his unique abilities and ran away to learn how to properly use them. He found an old psionicist to teach him what he needed to know, and quickly discovered that he could use his powers to kill and could make good money killing for pay and thus became an assassin.

Skills / Abilities: very observant misses almost nothing of his surroundings, has studied plants and herbs intensively focusing on the making and refining of poisons to cause death or incapacitation.
As from elven heritage is naturally dexterous and agile, with keen hearing and eye sight with active infrared vision.

Psionics:
Life drain: just what it sounds like, with physical touch he transfer life energy directly from another to himself, healing his own wounds or getting a temporary boost to life energy.
Death Field: by sacrificing some of his own life energy he do equal amount of damage to any thing living within a 15’ radius of him.
Cause Sleep: can cause a single target to go to sleep for as long as the power is maintained, on rare occasion (critical success) target will remain in a normal sleep without maintenance.
Body Control: can adapt his body to harmful environments, can breath under water, or in poisonous gas without ill effect.
Body Weaponry: can cause hands and arms to actually become various nonmagical melee weapons.
Flesh Armor: can cause skin harden and become resistant to physical injury, as if protected by metal armor.
Cell Adjustment: allows him to heal minor to moderate wounds in himself or others with concentration.
Body Equilibrium: allows him to make his almost completely weightless, allowing for slowed falling, easier climbing, and the ability to walk/run across short distances of water. Has the draw back of making him vulnerable to strong winds.
Telekinesis: The ability to move objects with power of his mind. The heavier the object the more draining it is.
Animate Object: Is essentially a refinement of telekinesis, making objects seem to come alive, chairs or tables to walk attack and grab.
Control Body: Through the use of telekinesis, take over control of another’s body and work them like a puppet.
Control Flames: Can control flames, get larger or smaller, change shape and move around leaving its original source.
Molecular Agitation: Using telekinesis to cause rapid or slowed movement of the molecules of any object. Rapid movement causes increased heat and with time can cause flames. Slowing movement reduces heat can cause extreme cold and brittleness.
Invincible Foes: Can either cause an opponent to believe that there is no way to win the fight against a selected subject, or make one enemy believe that the next hit will kill him outright.
Truthear: Has a high possibility to detect lies.
Inflict Pain: Can cause intense pain as if all the nerves are on fire or double the intensity of pain caused by injures.

Leather armor is enchanted for better protection and bestowed with chameleon power allowing him to blend almost perfectly with his surroundings.

Carries a dagger nothing special, just an 8” double edged razor sharp dagger. Also carries a hand crossbow for launching his poison darts, with variety of poisons. Also has a scimitar, which has been enchanted with cold powers, it will protect its wielder from fire by absorbing a great deal of heat energy and in return will send an equal amount of cold energy back at the source of the fire attack.

His view on life is quite simple, he has never experienced love; therefore, does not believe it is possible. He goes into every situation looking to see how he can gain from it, be it money, pleasure, fame, knowledge, etc. He can be fiercely loyal, but don’t cross him. Once he accepts a contract, he never breaks it. His greatest goal in life is to find and kill his father.

Ons: Being in control, causing pain, breast & nipple play, giving vaginal & anal penetration.
Offs: Scat, Piss, animals

I think I'll make a slave. I'll try to get a character sheet up by tomorrow as today is going to be pretty busy.

Amarlo

Here's my character sheet :) I turned it into Barbarian pending his approval.

Muirenne Siv
Name: Muirenne Siv
Race: Half-Nymph human
Nickname: Muire
Age: 17-18
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Position: Personal Slave to Elf’s Drow
Occupation: Former apothecary apprentice
Class: Healer
Appearance: Height: 5’1” Weight: 100 lbs
Appearance
Hair: Red waves ending in ringlets
Skin: Palid
Eyes: Variscite green, extremely pale.
History Muirenne never knew her parents and has long ago assumed they are deceased. She grew up under the good graces of the local apothecary who found the child charming even in her infancy and was overwhelmed by the urge to protect and nurture her. She was gifted with his knowledge and education, and had even further been blessed by his support when she decided she wished to become a Priestess at the local temple. Everything seemed to be going well for her until the high priest commissioned a well-known assassin to get rid of a high risk problem of theirs. He’d fully expected the assassin to die in the process so when the man returned asking for his payment there was shock and panic. They did not have enough to pay his fare and due to this they decided to throw in a few of their servants for him to choose from. He could keep one as his own slave or sell it, it was up to him. Unfortunately for Muire, she’d recently insulted the High Priest’s pride and while she was not a servant she was still tossed in as an option much to the dismay of the other Priests and Priestesses. They honestly hadn’t expected her to be picked, but alas, many things hadn’t gone as they expected with this man.
Ons: Nc, forced, biting, punishment, etc.

Foreseen Frequency: Daily, usually.

But I wonder this... Amarlo's char is slave to Elf's merc assassin. How will the drow of the house Baenre treat her? Of course they look down to her but can they use her for quests etc and give commands to her? If not, then her interaction will be limited with Elf. Maybe if Elf's char send her to some quest to aid other members of the lounge, she can do it.

Still, she will not be a "very usable" slave for the drow members of the lounge. dolly will have a slave, in that case, thinking Xanatos may play a drow, I can also do a slave character.

She will be completely usable for her skills, especially in healing and her apothecary knowledge. What makes her Elf's personal slave is purely sexual. It might be fun to have another character force themself on her or try to but other than that I don't enjoy being a part of orgies and threesomes.

As Amarlo said, she would available for her skills to the entire lounge and under their command. Zentius is smart enough realize that to survive in the underdark they all need each other. He is just very selfish about the pleasure aspects of her being a slave, he does not want to share her body with anybody. They have reached a point in their master/slave relationship that he allows her to go about her own business and serve the community without having to remain close to him, but he will protect what is his.

Well, we're getting quite a few mixed blood characters, so I opted to keep my character Drow after all, though with a touch of abyssal influence. So, without further ado:

-----------------

Name: Jhael'ra Baenre (lit. Ambitious Seeker), Female Drow Magus
Race: Drow
Position: Weaponsmaster
Appearance:
Between the unusual black colour of her long, luxurious hair that is tied into a loose knot at the back and the sparkle of mischief in her bright grey eyes, Jhael'ra is a rather attractive specimen of a female Drow. Her features are sleek, with high cheek-bones, smooth  obsidian skin and dark, violet lips. She moves with the grace of a dancer, an easy confidence in every step that many others of her kind have to force on themselves, assured of and in her own superiority.

She is of slightly above average height, with a slim athletic form that is nonetheless gifted with generous curves where it counts, a fact she is clearly all too aware of. Her clothes, while form-fitting, are practical: a dark-blue coat, whose tail extends to her knees, beneath a reinforced white vest that emphasizes her figure. Upon the vest is a stitching of the symbol of House Baenre, indicating her status as a noble.

Next, a thick belt from which her deadly scimitar 'Shrilyn' or 'Silk Assassin' dangles, above a pair of pants made from rough, brown leather.  A pair of knee-high boots completes the picture. Without much frill or over-elaborate garment, Jhael'ra still manages a look that could fit into formal court as easily as into a swashbuckling adventure.

Those who view Jhael'ra without her shirt would notice the intricate tattoos spread over most of her body, arcane sigils related to abbyssal influence and power that all lead to a central motive of Lolth's symbol engraved large upon her back. When studied by mystic means, a faint glow emanates from them, the after effect of a powerful ritual worked many years ago.

History:
Jhael'ra was born under auspicious circumstances, granddaughter to the matron's sister, and stood only a few steps removed from the main line of inheritance: a prestigious position indeed considering how quickly heirs tend to die in the many intrigues amongst the Drow.

Her mother, Jhael-shalee, mated with an actual Balor in order to bind him to her services and ensure her rise to power once all other potential heirs before her had been eliminated. Jhael'ra was, however, not the product of that union - unbeknownst to the priestess she was already in a very early state of pregnancy at the time. For a long time she thought her rite a success due to the resonance of abyssal energies within her womb; forging a connection to a powerful demon as well as giving birth to a powerful Cambion would increase her power and influence greatly, only to find herself unpleasantly surprised when she birthed what was obviously a pure Drow.

However, the demon seed that had tainted her did take root, though in an unintended manner: Jhael'ra was marked by intricate tattoo-like patterns on her skin from the moment of birth, arcane sigils that seemed to mark her as favored by the Abyss.

As she grew, Jhael'ra found a natural facility with both weapons and destructive magic - the arcane energies of which made her tattoos shift and writhe in eager response. Eventually she consulted the high priestess about this phenomenon and discovered that they were a manifestation of demonic energies that resided inside her, which in ritualistic cooperation they were able to grasp and pull forth: it manifested as an arcane black blade, possessed of rudimentary but decidedly fiendish intelligence and blood-thirst.

Between the new ability to call that blade forth from inside her and her other talents, she quickly succeeded in rising the ranks -- until her attitude caught up with her. She had secured herself the loyalty and alliance of various individuals that were less than respectable by Drow standards -- men, halfbloods, slaves and other races -- since after some time on the battlefield she decided to value others by their usefulness rather than their birth and even took a human male for a lieutenant.

When this came to the attention of the high priestesses, her standing suffered greatly for it. It wouldn't do for a prominent daughter of Lolth to cavort with and rely upon the strength of her lessers to such an extent. Disgraced, she was eager to go to Querthin when she received the offer -- being stationed at an outlying trading post would allow time for those memories of her disavowal to fade, not to mention that these were often assaulted by their enemies and would allow Jhael'ra to regain glory in battle.

Once arrived, she asserted herself as an exceptional warrior and field commander, and was thus quickly raised to the position of weaponsmaster. Despite her high birth, she was no priestess and held no interest in being anything but the weaponsmaster. Even her arcane potential, though powerful, had never been anything but another weapon to utilize in combat to her. Between those facts and her practicality, she has no intentions of moving against either the High Priestess or Master Sorcerer as long as they act competently within their position.

Personality:
Jhael'ra is an odd one. She has leanings towards defying some of the more cumbersome Drow conventions, but others she wholly believes in and supports. As far as Jhael'ra is concerned, Drow society is pretty much the ideal way of living. While she does view males as inherently inferior, she doesn't really fault them for their shortcomings -- their weakness is a fact for which the noteworthy individuals amongst them stand out twice as much and those who proved their worth under her command are treated rather well.

While she is brave and uncompromising, her fierce commanding personality hides a strategic mind that, when put to the test of intrigue and manipulation, is more than up to the task. She prefers to keep her personal relationships straightforward and simple -- but this is not always possible.

Jhael keeps a number of lovers that change frequently, though some faces remain a constant: usually particularly outstanding warriors or skilled lovers.

Rather than aspiring for a position as Matron Mother or High Priestess, the female Magus is more interested in increasing her military acumen and in the lure of adventure.

Ons:
My preferences are set up in my profile. For this sort of game, I'm fine with a little more cruelty than usual (blood-letting, branding, that sort of stuff) that would usually be more of an off.
Offs:
Bodily waste, too extreme sadism (gore and such)
Foreseen Frequency:Twice a week should be fine as a minimum, more when and if able.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
I was unable to find a more suitable image of a Drow with non-standard white hair that looked more warrior-esque and still suited my taste, so this depiction is somewhat out of character.

Still waiting for char sheet of abandoneddolly and Xanatos. And for more people :)

By the way, you guys and ladies are welcome to come up with plots that may or may not aim each other's characters. I'm thinking of a simple starting quest that I will also make ties with your characters for interaction but we can also undo what I think and start with a story of your design.

(My idea is that a simple starting mission for the lounge; a surface trader who mostly sells furs of exotic surface beasts, does heavy business with duergars. The drow want him to make business with them instead. They need to persuade him somehow, but it will not be easy as he is very close friends with duergar leaders. To get to him, the drow need to contact with his advisor and first accomplish some mission for the advisor. Maybe Elf's character can be a contact of the advisor so that the lounge need him etc)

In any case, I wish this game to start by the end of this week at most.

Elf

Sounds good to me. Zentius may have done a few "jobs" for the adviser in the past. Maybe taking out competition of the trader's. His reputation for always fulfilling a contract once agreed on will help. Maybe the quest could be to locate a rare beast in the underdark that the trader has been commissioned to get for a topside customer.

SpiralSpider - Could you take a glance at this as well as Barbarian as my background intersects with yours.  Let me know if you don't want and I can change

]

Name: Kesmyr Baenrae

Race: Drow

Position: Priestess of Lolth (openly) Leader of Kiaransalee cult (secretly)

Appearance: Per picture.  Unusually amongst the Drow, Kesmyr ties her hair back with a small silver ring.  Wearing Kiaransalee's holy symbol  - silver rings on each finger of her hand - would be too dangerous and that's the closest she dares. She's generally armoured though the armour is more ornate than functional - it might turn a blade at a push, but its not really suitable for battle.  Ditto for the sword - one or two good strikes and it would warp or snap.  If she dropped the sulky frown - Kesmyr has the most serious case of resting bitch face known to Faerun- she could be quite attractive, but noone's ever seen it happen.

History:   The thing that explains Kesmyr's history is that, well, people tend not to like her.  Part of it is the perpetual scowl.  Part of it is the fact that she makes no attempt to hide how much smarter she is than everybody else.  Part of it is the fact she rarely if ever bothers to learn people's names.  Part of it is that she's just plain unlikeable.  Drow, members of the most arrogant race in the world, find her arrogant.  She has no noticeable leadership skills and little interest in developing any - people should do what she says because she is right, Lolthdamnit, not because she's somehow persuaded them.  She got in to the Clergy through an impeccably high birth and progressed through the same, but it came as no surprise to anyone except her when Xulena became High Priestess over her.

And she was indeed surprised.  She retreated to her house and her undead servants - she found it hard to keep even slaves let alone drow servants - and brooded for ages.  Plotting a revenge so spectacular that house Baenrae would discuss it for centuries.  But she couldn't do it alone and noone was willing to support her.

Driven by revenge, surrounded by undead, it was realistically only a matter of time before she found Kiaransalee.  She was familiar with her, of course, but her conversion was still a slow affair.  By the time she emerged though, her spells were being granted by Kiaransalee not Lolth.  The Spider Queen must know, of course, but to date she hasn't made that fact aware to her clerics in Baenrae.  Maybe she enjoys watching the plotting, maybe she (correctly) judges that Kesmyr doesn't stand a chance at converting the house, maybe she just doesn't give a fuck.  Outwardly, Kesmyr maintains her standing within Lolth's church, behind closed doors she leads an incredibly small cult of Kiaransalee in dreams of vengeance against Xulena.  Small because of her, though she'll never realise it.  Kiaransalee is a goddess of revenge and there are many abused males, and even slaves, who could be seduced to her worship but Kesmyr is certainly not the woman to do it.  The cult will go nowhere, but she'll never see that.  After all, she's in charge of the cult, and she's by far the smartest person she knows.

Ons: Kesmyr is an incredibly selfish lover, even by female drow standards.  Though it rarely comes up of course, she's unpleasant enough to cancel out her attractiveness.  The old half-blind orcish slave who attends to her every need knows that his tongue is needed a couple of times a day, but other than him its been a while.  She has essentially no interest in sex qua sex, or indeed anything sexual that isn't her being brought to orgasm as quickly as possible then the encounter finishing.  Part of this is actually inexperience, though she doesn't realise it; she's never been with anyone but a slave and she's certainly not about to enter a ender bout of lovemaking with them.  Whether she'd enjoy t if she tried it is rather academic - noone particularly wants to.

Offs: As above, really.

Frequency: Once a week, certainly.  Maybe a litte more, occasionally a little less.

SpiralSpider

Keep in mind, I'm not the person behind the starting of this game so I will, of course, defer to Barbarian's decision.

I like Kesmyr as a character and I enjoy the flaws that round her out. But I worry about a priestess of Lloth being secretly a priestess of Kiransalee. That is blatant disrespect and extremely dangerous in any situation, but for a daughter of the 1st house of Menzoberranzan it seems... almost impossible, to be honest.

Since the houses are always striving to tip the balance of the scale to keep Lloth's favor (and thus their ranking within the city) Kesmyr as a Baenrae, with that giant spotlight shining down on them... it just seems unthinkable from my point of view. She's bound to be killed - and quickly - once our Matron is aware, and I don't think it would take her long to find that one of her own daughters was actively working against her. It's a really tenuous tightrope to walk for even the most wily an determined, and made that much more difficult by her arrogance and lack of drive.

Certainly, one Goddess or the other could have a hand in her current success. And it could lead to all kinds of delightful confrontation and interaction with the other characters so in terms of conflict and drama, we'd have it for sure.

"If you get hurt, hurt them back. If they kill you... walk it off."

Kythia

Oh, sure.  I know its a dangerous position and I'm fine with playing that through to the logical conclusion.  Being out in the lounge is likely aiding her (though she of course believes its her own superlative leadership).  I'm fine with that.  If/when she is executed I'll roll up a new character (assuming barbarian will still have me).  My goal here is to have fun and 1) I kinda like creating characters and 2) a potential death isn't gonna ruin that for me.  And hopefully the potentially inevitable unmasking will be fun for everyone else as well.

Kesmyr is ok for me. Secret worship is ok until it's... secret. Till the right time comes. And as Kythia noted, maybe Lloth has other plans for this schemer :)

Now what we really need is another slave I guess. So I'll be making a slave char today. He'll be a human scout for drow characters to use as henchmen, warrior, sex slave or in any mission, anyway.

By the way, I had edited some guilds and factions at the Quest Log. Link to it and OOC can be found at the top of the first post of this thread. I'll add Kythia's char and mine to Quest Log and then, make up an IC thread in a few days.

For now, the main quest for the drow lounge would be to set up a deal with that surface fur trader, but that's going to be a longish plot, with you contributing mostly and deciding the outcomes. Once and if you do it, Duergar will not be happy and things will follow.

But other than that, please, just please do not hesitate to make up your own quests, like maybe Kesmyr plotting behind Xulena and trying to gain allies etc.. That applies for anyone.

As I said, tomorrow or the day after, the IC will be ready.

Thank you everyone for the patient wait :)

Do you still need another sneaky slave?  I was thinking a changeling rogue.

Name: Jarlo
Race: Changeling
Position: Recent Slave
Appereance: He appears normally as a male Drow, but changes shapes to different races and sexes often, for no other reason than to entertain those around him.
History: Jarlo was a traveling minstrel.  He grew up traveling with his family who entertain both on the surface world and the underdark.  They trained him in performing, as well as some skills in stealth, which came useful at times.  He left his family to start an act of his own, seeing the world, living day to day.  It was a good life, and his act usually includes changing shapes as part of his storyline.  Unfortunately, he developed quite a nasty gambling habit.  He eventually accumulated a huge gambling debt, that put him into slavery.  He's hoping for the best and tries to use his charms to try to eventually get out of slavery somehow.

So, wait, Jarlo is finished? The charsheet seems rather minimal.

So, I fleshed out Jarlo's bio a bit.  I realize it was rather skimmish, and I decided to give him a more permanent form...a female drow one.

Name: Jarlo
Race: Changeling
Position: Recent Slave
Appearance: She appears normally as a beautiful female Drow with white hair and blue-ebony skin.   She wears markings (slave collar)  that bear her as a drow slave, which she cannot take off without the master's key.  Her clothings are usually that of the performer, a low cut black dress.

History: Jarlo was a traveling minstrel.  He grew up traveling with his family of changelings who entertain both on the surface world and the underdark.

After he was sold to the drows, his new owners asked him to change to a permanent form of his choosing.  They were not afraid of him running away, as they had a way of tracking him through his phylactery, and he knew his punishment was instant death...or worse.  Since there were other drow slaves (typically captured in battle), he chose the form of a female drow, as the form commanded the most respect, even though she is still a slave.  She is also use to being taller, and the male form was typically too short.  Her masters found her powers of shapechanging useful for their intrigue, but she is prohibited from doing it unless directed by one of her masters.

Ons: Jarlo turned into a female form out of practicality.  She is still unuse to the female form, as she did not stay in it for too long in the past.  She has never experienced sex as a female, and this is the farthest from her worries at the moment.  She will be reluctant to participate in sexual activity, as a female, at first but may just need a little "push" to discover the delight of the female form.  Changelings can enjoy sex as either sexes and can even get pregnant.
Offs: Pretty open except male-male encounters.
Foreseen Frequency: How long should we wait for a post from you? Twice a week
Skills:  Move Silently, Hide in Shadow, Perform (sing, musical intruments, story-telling), Listen, Spot, Diplomacy, Disguise, Bluff, Slight-of-Hand.

Level (His proficiency is that of a level 2 Bard, DND 3.5)
Spells:  Cantrips, Silent Image, Cure Light Wounds
Bard Songs:  Fascinate, Inspire Courage (+1), Countersong

Minor changeshape (Su): Changelings have the ability to alter their appearance as though using a disguise self spell, this does not affect their possessions. This is not an illusory effect but a minor physical alteration of features. The changeling can use this at will and lasts until they choose to change again or are killed in which case they revert to their natural form. A true seeing spell reveals their natural form. When in use this ability gives the changeling a +10 circumstance bonus to disguise checks. Using this ability is a full-round action.
