CORRUPTION

How Far Will You Go?

(NB: Sample game-show set only. The actual set used will probably bare very little resemblance to the above, but a colourful picture is always good)

On a private Island, an eccentric billionaire sets up his own little TV station. It broadcasts by satellite around the world, dubbed into dozens of languages, but the only show it is broadcasting is a game show called "Corruption", with the tag line, "How far Will You Go?"

Potential contestants are invited to fill in an application form. They are then interviewed by the production team to assess their suitability, in an hotel in a sea-side resort. Their trip to the resort is paid for by the TV company, no expense spared. Anyone unlucky enough not to be selected for the game show is simply returned home.

Those who are selected are asked to sign a waiver indemnifying the TV station from any and all claims arising from the show. Any refusing to sign are simply sent home. The rest are flown by private jet to the island, where they are put up in a luxury hotel.

The day their episode is to be transmitted, live, around the world, the contestants are taken to the studio for a rehearsal.

Now, up to this point, all they know is that this is an adults only game show, it will feature adult content, and they should be prepared for that fact. Anyone who is in any way prudish or sensitive is given ample opportunity to leave, with no hard feelings.

At the rehearsal the mechanics of the game are introduced, the contestants are allowed to familiarise themselves with the set, the way the technical stuff works, they are shown that there is no opportunity to cheat, and they are also introduced to the show's backer, Mr Archibald Wisley, who simply sits in his VIP box and watches. They meet the show's hostess, Loretta Vance and her assistant Kitten too.

After the rehearsal, the contestants have a few hours to relax, before they are called to make-up. After make-up and wardrobe have finished with them, usually just making sure they look their best for the start of the show, they will be sent to the Green Room, where they are allowed to drink free coffee and soft drinks (but no alcohol), while waiting for the show to start.

And Loretta introduces the episode in her usual way, before introducing first her assistant, and then the contestants, who will be ushered to their respective entrance points and encouraged to run on to the set waving and cheering....

And The Game Begins!

This is an Extreme Group System game

The game show itself revolves around a system of "dares" or "challenges". The challenges are all printed on coloured cards. The first two cards are mandatory "Starter cards", are grey in colour, and are worth $50 each. After each contestant has completed the challenges on the two start cards, a pack of 15 white cards, each worth $100 each are dropped into the shuffle hopper. This is a mechanical device that shuffles the cards (which are 8"x12"). When the contestant presses a select button (or it is pressed on his her behalf), a single card will be ejected from the machine. The contestant will be able to see one side of the card only.

On that side of the card will be the colour (obviously), the prize for completing the challenge successfully, the category of the challenge, and the duration of the challenge. The contestant is then asked if they wish to accept the challenge (before they know what it is), or if they wish to decline the challenge. If they decline, they are OUT! However, they get to keep any money won up to this point.

If they accept the challenge, they are then told what is printed on the back of the card. They then have the choice of using three life-lines, which (obviously) can only be used once.

If at this point, they refuse to take the challenge, they are OUT! And they LOOSE all the money they won up to that point. They leave with what they came with and nothing more.

If They attempt the challenge and fail, they do not win the money, but they do get to stay in.

The card is then returned to the pack.

After three rounds, a further fifteen cards are added to the deck, and this is repeated every three rounds until either all the contestants have dropped out or all 60 cards are in play.

The Cards

AutumRain (who is playing the assistant Kitten and is my Co-GM) and I have created the deck of 62 cards. They do exist (albeit in a spreadsheet on both our PCs), and we will not change them during the course of an episode. For subsequent episodes, the cards may well be different.

We will NOT reveal the challenges in advance.

What we will tell you is that the card colours are grey (the two starter cards) worth $50, White worth $100, Yellow worth $1,000, Red worth $10,000, and Black worth $100,000.

Obviously, as the money gets higher, so the challenges get nastier.

Here is the point: WE WANT YOU TO DROP OUT

Any player not posting within a week of a post addressed to them will be GMed out of the game, unless you have posted in the OOC that you are going to be away or unable to post for whatever reason.

If you subsequently return and discover that your contestant was eliminated, but you wish to carry on, fret not. You can return with the same character or a different one in a subsequent episode.

If at any point you draw a challenge that squicks you out, you have three life-lines (that may or may not help) and you have the option to drop out.

AutumnRain and I want to make this absolutely clear:

If at any time you draw a card where the category is one you don't like, or where the challenge (once revealed) is something you don't like, you may drop out with no hard feelings. If another player draws a card you don't like, again, you may drop out with no hard feelings.

THIS IS AN EXTREME ROLE PLAY: While we are not going to reveal the categories and challenges here, they do cover a wide range of "subjects". I will reveal that there will be no gore or mutilation.

Last (Wo)Man Standing

If all the players except one drop out of an episode, the last player in will recieve a $100,000 bonus, and may return in a later episode as a returning champion.

However before this can happen they are gioven one more challenge, with all the cards except the black ones removed from the shuffler.

Once this round is complete, the episode is over.

The System:

The system couldn't be more simple. When it is your contestant's turn to choose a card, you roll a dice on the dice roller. (If you do not know how this works, don't panic, I will explain before we get going).

Depending on which cards are in play, you roll 1d15, 1d30, 1d45 or 1d60. I will then post the visible side of your card and ask you if you want to accept it. If you do, I will post the other side of your card, and depending on whether you have any life lines or not, I will ask if you wish to play one. If you have no life lines, Autumn will post her character doing whatever needs to be done to yours.

Lifelines, if played, will require resolution which may require dice rolls by myself depending on the lifeline. These rolls will be visible to the player concerned.

EPISODES

I already mentioned episodes. This game is permanently open and recruiting.

Each episode will take place in a different thread. As they will be IC on different days, there will be no crossing between threads.

Each episode will have a minimum of four contestants (at the start) and a maximum of seven. Obviously if we only get four players interested, that will be it. But the point is if another four join after we start, they will be in episode 2, and so on.

I know, it should go without saying, this is just a game, it isn't real. But I know what people are like and I can just imagine someone getting all huffy about the fact that they supposedly won three hundred thousand dollars in my game and no one paid them, and declaring it a huge con...

Character Creation

All player characters are contestants in the game show.

Throughout this thread, the term "Player" refers to the real life person sitting on the other side of the computer screen. "Character" and "Contestant" are synonimous and refer to the player's character within the game.

WILL ALL PLAYERS PLEASE USE THE CHARACTER SHEET EXACTLY AS GIVEN.

Failure to do so will result in me asking you to resubmit your character. I will not accept characters on non-standard character sheets.

By that, I mean leave the format and layout as they are. Obviously you can remove the instructions about what goes in each section.

Players who submit a character after the start of an episode will need to wait until there are at least three other approved characters before the next episode starts.

Characters will be declined under the following circumstances:

• The character is poorly created and/or does not fit with the spirit of the game - Game show contestants are screened before being approved IRL
• Character stats, descriptions, etc are unrealistic or way out of proportion
• The player only ever posts single line posts to all his/her other games. (ie less than 100 words)

Edit to add: Having received a couple of character sheets that do not meet a certain criterion that I thought was obvious, I will make it explicit. We are looking for members of the general public as contestants. Not show biz stars, not porn stars, not minor celebrities. We want bank clerks, shop assistants, accountants, garage mechanics, students, nurses, housewives - especially housewives. People who are bored with their lives and want to do something thrilling for a change!

At some point we may to a celebrity special, but in the mean time, please could people create "ordinary" characters?

Now recruiting for the celeb special, so we specifically want characters that are minor celebrities, people who are in the public eye, politicians, authors, sports personalities, etc..... They only need be a little bit famous.

Parodies of real people are acceptable, so long as it is clear that the character is NOT intended to actually BE the person being parodied.

All contestants in the celeb special will be donating their winnings to charity. Please specify your chosen charity when submitting your character sheet. Charities can be real or made up, but if you make one up, I will veto it if it is unrealistic.


NOTE: The only exception to the exclusion of hermaphrodites and Futanari is if you wish to play pre-op male to female transsexual. If anyone submits such a character, though, it had better be BLOODY GOOD!
NOTE: The close personal friend or relative may be required at some point during the game. I have a set of rules that I use in my group games. They are generally common sense anyway, and I like to think that there is nothing onerous here, nothing draconian. I ask that everyone read them and post to say they have and are in agreement.

Game Within a Game

This game is meta-plot oriented, with player characters following the rules of a game within the roleplaying game in order to win In-character prize money. If you do not like the way the game is progressing, you are welcome to drop out at any time. The IC rules of the game will be explained to contestants IC.

Below are the OOC rules of play.

RULES:

• The GM's word is law. This does not mean I'm not open to discussion, but if it comes to an impasse, if a decision needs to be made, or a discussion is getting out of bounds, I will render a decision that I expect to be abided by. I will do this based upon context, by considering all the opinions and options
• If you draw a card that goes against something in your offs, either play a life-line or drop out. That is the nature of this game. Characters have IC signed a waiver. Players, by implication, also sign the same waiver. NOTE: This rule replaces my usual rule about non consent. This game is entirely consensual. This rule is non negotiable
• Post at least once a week. If you know you will be unable to post for a while please let us know in advance in the OOC. it is a good idea to create an Apologies/Absences (A/A) thread so everyone you are RPing with knows where you've gone. If you know you are going to be away for a considerable time (more than a week) we ask you to drop your character out.
• If you have dropped out or been GMed out through inactivity, or you have won an episode which has thus ended, you may if you wish either return with the same character and try again, or create a new character.
• If you have any questions about anything in the game, ASK! The only stupid questions are "how many beans make five" and ones that aren't asked!
• The OOC thread is here for people to chat. She soon came to the attention of Kink.com, and became one of their leading dominatrices. When Mr Wisely approached her and offered her the job of hostess on his TV show, she was skeptical at first, but after seeing the sort of thing he had in mind, she gladly accepted the job.

Blinkin, can you please, as a special favor to me, go through and edit your character sheet to remove out the explanatory text. It will make your character a million times easier to read.

A couple of questions: The TV show is described as being broadcast worldwide and dubbed into dozens of languages. So is it likely that our characters have seen the show before? Is it popular enough that there are newspaper articles written about it, fan web sites, etc.? Or is this more the sort of thing that's enjoyed by a select few of the rich and powerful, and is generally unknown to the world at large?

I'd prefer a more surprising game where our characters have no idea of the sorts of challenges that are likely to come up. But if there's information publicly available regarding the show, then I think a contestant would have to be kind of dim to not look it up before going off to the interview.

A couple of questions: The TV show is described as being broadcast worldwide and dubbed into dozens of languages. So is it likely that our characters have seen the show before? Is it popular enough that there are newspaper articles written about it, fan web sites, etc.? Or is this more the sort of thing that's enjoyed by a select few of the rich and powerful, and is generally unknown to the world at large?

I'd prefer a more surprising game where our characters have no idea of the sorts of challenges that are likely to come up. But if there's information publicly available regarding the show, then I think a contestant would have to be kind of dim to not look it up before going off to the interview.

In a word, No. At the moment we are recruiting contestants for the first ever episode. If you submit your character as one of the first seven (eight at a push) you will be on that episode.

Recruiting for episode 2 will start before episode 1 is broadcast...

In IC terms, the time line would be like this:

Reason to be here: Ophélie has to pay for her room, her food and her studies. Without parents to pay for her, with no prospect of securing a loan from a bank, her only option is to work in the evening and during the week-ends. Unfortunately, Ophelia is also a strong-willed girl who has just lost her third job as a waitress because she could just not accept to be given orders by bosses and customers who were not half as smart as she was. Ophélie has tried to sell her photographs but this is far from paying her bills. She has to find something else.

The Corruption game arrives just in time. It is going to be a challenge, which Ophélie is always keen to take and it might make her famous, which might help with her career as a photograph.

Remember, many shows will film far ahead of what is airing, Like Chrystal pointed out. Also, even in later episodes, the contestants aren't told the name of the show or which show it will be until they're on stage. All your character knows is signing up is "its a challenge show to earn lots of money, will likely involve some adult content." They're just told its a TV show, and how bad can it be if they're going to air it on TV?

Me too. You can work in a little extra for your character too (did your friends get the application and talk you into signing up, downplaying the adult thing? is your character in denial 'well, they probably just put that there in case, it can't be that bad...' Or a million other excuses to surprise your character.
