So since I finally got my book Ive been thinking about starting up a game now that my interest in D&D has been rekindled. Now before you go rejoicing in the streets I should warn you that I'm a tough DM. I expect a lot out of myself and by extension I expect a lot out of my players. I want my players to challenge me just I will challenge them

I run my games in such a way that they focus on character goals and development first rather then doing dungeon crawl after dungeon crawl. The Player characters in my campaigns are there to be world effecting hero's where every triumph and treachery will mean something in their future. The players and by extension characters make the decisions of what they want to do and I simply make up the challenges they face while trying to accomplish their goals. There will be times when I will throw out story's for them to follow, and I always bring the group together through a 3rd party to initially form the group but the players will always have the choice of not following the story hook and doing something else.

As far as encounters go, I don't pull punches either. In my games people tend to find the most interesting and memorable encounters they will ever experience in a D&D game. Enemies will be played to their full intelligence and capabilities.

So there it is, horror filled and memorable player driven games that you will never be able to forget, no matter how hard you try. If I didn't scare you off by this point then go on and we get into the setting and mechanics of what I'm considering for this game. If I can find 5 players to play a variety of classes and give me a good writing challenge then this game will happen

The setting

The Kingdom of Dancra is a large country that is located within the Timerus mountain range. It is winter meaning a large amount of snowfall, storms, and cold days but the summers grow warm, sometimes reaching temperatures up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The country mostly survives off its bountiful wheat harvests and game found in the neighboring forests and mountains. Dancra gets most of its money from trading in minerals and gemstones that they mine from the mountains and many dwarf clans have setup clanholds and self sufficient communities.

Magic hardly exists at all. There are no large wizard schools and clerics that do have the faith needed to cast magic are at best rare. Magic is something that almost no one in the kingdom knows of outside of Myth. It is seen with both awe and fascination and sometimes with fear and contempt.

You will find all manner of races within Dancra but the most most common are Humans and dwarves

The beginning adventure

A village of Arlia is an agricultural community that has largely been forgotten by the nobles and monarchy of Dancra. However one day a message arrives asking for military assistance. The messenger has already died from blood loss and Galdwin, the General of the Dancra's military has been ordered not to send a military force to investigate.

However he is not the kind of man to ignore a plea for his soldier's help. While he is forbidden to send a military unit, he instead recruits the PCs to look into the situation at Arlia.

The game will start with this meeting. Each PC should have done something remarkable in their background so that Galdwin has a reason to put his faith in them

Allowed books
Pathfinder Core book
Any other material will be considered on a case by case basis

Group composition and notes

One of the first things to keep in mind is that for this game I want PCs that will work together. I would prefer good PCs but I wont bar anyone from playing an evil one as long as that character works with the rest of the group. However, if a character starts working against the other PCs in the group I will have no problem arranging a gruesome and interesting death for that character. I actually enjoy killing off disruptive player characters so don't mess with me on that

Obviously if there is questions about any of this, ask them

So now we come to what I want for the group composition. I need the following positions to be filled and I give some ideas on what can fill them

Front line fighter: Fighter, Paladin, heavily armored barbarian, druid with wild shape and close range combat focus, a war cleric
Wilderness expert: Barbarian, ranger, druid, or anyone thats focused in the survival and Knowelege (nature) skills
Divine spell caster: Druid or cleric
Arcane spell caster: Sorcerer or wizard

The 5th slot is a bit of a wild card. It can be filled with a variety of character types like social or intellectual experts. Some people will see that I didnt put in rogue and they are right I didnt. I have a simple rule of thumb. If the party has a rogue then I can go nuts with deadly traps. If the party does not contain a rogue then I dont tend to worry about traps at all

Joining the game

So now we come to that inevitable question. How do you go about joining? Well fill this out and well go from there. Before you get to writing be aware that I don't want to deal with mechanics for now. What I do want is to see solid, well written, and well thought out character concepts. Write as much as you can for every aspect of their being, show me that you will put the role before the roll

Character name: Whats the name of your character?
Character Age: How old is the character?
Character Race: What race does he belong to?
Character Alignment: Tell us your characters alignment

Character description: Tell us what your character looks like

indarkestknight

What level?

Additionally, I would like a bit of clarification, if you don't mind. I understand that you don't pull punches; I don't mind that in the least. I would ask, however, whether, when handling NPCs and monsters with sub-average intelligence or wisdom, whether you limit their tactical acumen as befits their intelligence or wisdom?

I have access to the rules on-line but they are not the rulebook proper rules until updated, sorry $50 for a rulebook for a game I may at best play here in your game is to much money right now.

Is that a problem?

Character name: Miriam
Character Age: 18
Character Race: Human
Character Alignment: Neutral
Character class: Bard
Character Role: Jack-of-All-Trades

Character description: A classic beauty with curves and circles padded in all the right ways she is blessed with long dark hair, gorgous big dark eyes and add to that a gentle manner that is most appealing. Oddly for a bard she dresses modestly favoring clean clothing that looks nice on her but not flowery dress she lests her skills draw in admirers. Not that she is not into being clean, prettied up and looking like a woman she adores that but being a local girl avoids showey airs. Her only jewlery is a simple copper holy symbol and a wolf's fang on a cord her father gave to her from a childhood when she came of age. She wears it for luck and its precious to her.

Character Personality: Modest she is not unproud of her talents both mundane and magical but they do set her apart. Three things in the end focus her her music and performing, her faith and her common sense that was drilled into her by her parents. Considered by most a very exceptional girl the mothers have been trying to get her interested in their sons and her mother has been adding to that. But her heart belongs to other women and she desires that but has many men as friends.

Character Background: Not much to say she was born to a typical local family her father a King's Woodsman, her mother a chronically ill woman of late. She was apprenticed to a family nearby in town to learn housewifery since its a trade a woman is usually taught in her area. In secret at the local temple ,more a holy grove with a cave and natural hot springs where she learned to be a bard. Her family typically large she the oldest of seven children with two sisters and four brothers. She has not many other things that happened in her modest background. Save she is a bard and performs weekend nights on Saturday for the locals and is popular.

Character goals: Learn more about the barding arts, travel, find a woman to marry and build a life with, find a way to be productive hopefully where she grew up and teach others her craft if worthy.

Yeah. Knowing the set level for this will have an effect on what sort of character I have available for this. I'd like to say I have a pair of druids to choose from, but I dunno if they'd work just yet. I would also like to try a monk on the way to becoming a sacred fist. I guess the latter would have to be the 5th character, yes?  :-)

That said, I've been looking for a good fantasy group RP with a very strong story. It's these sorts of stories that started me Roleplaying in the first place.

RubySlippers

I favor 2nd or 3rd level no one shuld start with a prestige class. We are supposed to be if I read it right relatively young and promising not matured locals with established trades.

GrinningHound

6th level please!  :D

I would like to be a paladin, I think.

Paladin

Yea I would love to play and be a Paladin along with Grinninghound but I donot have the book and I don't have the money for it.

Character name: Kyrie Ebonblade
Character Age: 18-25
Character Race: Human (or Aasimar if allowed)
Character Alignment: Neutral or Chaotic Good
Character class: Cleric (of Shelyn or Desna)or Sorcerer (Arcane or Destined)
Character Role: Healer or Blaster type (with a possiblty of an Arcane Trickster, Sorcerer/Rogue) :D

Character description: Athletic woman with dark hair and light skin, with hazel eyes. She tends towards 'practical' clothing that is designed for freedom of movement and with little consideration to showing off her figure or flattering it.

Character Personality: Practical and focused in the pursuit of her goal, with more than a little naivety about the 'outsider' world. Curious about romantic realities as all she had any real knowledge of is the romances of music and story.

Character Background: Born to a minor noble family of some means, she grew up knowing privilege and standing till the family namesake, the Ebonblade, was stolen and the family fortune seemed to wither overnight.
Misfortune struck wiping out the family business, estate and finally in one firey night of death and destruction her family. Standing in the ruins of her family hone she vowed to find and recover the family sword and to avenge the lose of her family.

Character goals: Find and recover the family blade, and discover who set out to ruin her family and why.

For those of you unable or unwilling to buy the Pathfinder book (for the record, RubySlippers, it's apparently only $32-33 on Amazon, and it covers both the material of the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master's Guide), there's the official Pathfinder System Reference Document.

I was considering playing a paladin, but seeing as at least two other people are interested in the position, I'll be content playing either a conjurer, a transmuter, or a sorcerer, based on a few factors.

For the record, I'm personally comfortable with higher starting levels, though I'm more than willing to play starting at 1st level, if that's your preference.

Finally, given this is Elliquiy, could we get an idea of how central sex and seduction will be to plot, if at all?

indarkestknight

This is just one of the possible character ideas I'm pounding out. I've got quite a few others floating about, and I'll post them as I go along.

Character name: Elric Athenis
Character Age: 17-22 (depending on starting level)
Character Race: Human
Character Alignment: Lawful Good, leaning towards Lawful Neutral
Character class: Conjurer
Character Role: Arcane spellcaster

Character description: Elric appears as one might expect many a wizard to appear; tall and slender, swathed in robes. His hair is black, and kept short, and his skin is pale. Despite the typical ostentation of most conjurers, due to pride in their power over others, Elric prefers simple colors: blacks and whites and greys. He endeavors to be neat and tidy, however, his obsessive nature sometimes leads him to being in disarray if his current project takes priority over appearances. Perhaps the most striking feature about him, however, is his face. While one upon a time, that might have been because of the startling blue eyes he has and the intensity of their gaze in spite of the glasses they hide behind, that no longer so; instead, most people first notice the three scars running diagonal from the upper righthand corner of his face to the lower lefthand corner, as if left by claws. He might once have been handsome, if not for these scars, but both the scars and his stern, aloof demeanor make it difficult for anyone to think of his appearance as anything but "severe".

Character Personality: Elric's appearance gives many clues to his personality. Those who judge him to be severe due to his appearance are, in fact, not far from wrong. He has little tolerance for fools, less humor, and no interest at all in trivial matters. Perhaps the paramount aspect of Elric is that of control. Having seen his life spiral completely out of control in his childhood, he is desperate to regain that sense of safety and security that springs from being in control. This same desire for control is what ultimately led to him choosing to become a conjurer, seeking to control those forces that ruined his youth, and it has lent him an undeniable intensity. He can be obsessive once focused on a subject, and even paranoid, looking for signs of tampering by fiends everywhere, though he rarely voices such concerns unless he is completely certain. His particular point of interest are the planes, particularly the Outer Planes, and he seeks as much knowledge about them and their inhabitants as he can obtain.

He does not have friends; only allies, which is a title he only extends to those he trusts. those he works with but does not yet trust, he regards as "peers". He very rarely shows emotion, and when he does, it is most typically anger or contempt. He struggles not to let his fear of fiends get the better of him, and has even on occasion considered using summoned fiends in combat against the forces of evil, reasoning that either way, the forces of evil are harmed; however, he knows of far too many who have become corrupted by those they thought they had mastered, and so, for now, he avoids such summonings. The rare time he expresses a soft spot is in regards to children and orphans, feeling a certain kinship with them given his past, and sometimes he'll dote on them, even performing minor magics and illusions for their entertainment.

While he is a conjurer, he does not like relying exclusively on summoned beings for his offense and his defense; as such, he always has a few spells ready in case he needs to fight on his own.

Character Background: Elric was, for many years, a normal child. He was, though he did not realize it at the time, very happy, and very fortunate, for he had loving parents and a bright mind, though he was melancholy and moody by nature. He and his family had for as long as anyone could remember, going at least six generations back, exceptionally skilled at arcane magic and wizardry. As such, it was almost a forgone conclusion that a boy as clever and intelligent as Elric would learn magic from his father.

However, when Elric was six, disaster struck. Some fool had performed magic beyond his comprehension and control, and, as a result, a tear formed in the planar fabric, opening up a gate to the Abyss for the next 24 hours. The city quickly became living hell as demons descended upon it, defiling and destroying everything they could get their claws and fangs on. Even the mightiest of defenders in the city could not stand against the countless hordes of tanari... including Elric's parents. Before the boy's eyes, his parents were eviscerated and devoured, and his childhood best friend, a girl who was as close to him as a twin sister, raped and taken away, sobbing and heaving and screaming. Yet through it all, he remained surprisingly untouched, in all the city, even when he charged the demons, fists helplessly pounding away at the supernaturally tough flesh of the tanari.

When finally the gate closed, and the demons had returned-- or been banished-- back to their native plane, the city, and Elric's life, was left in desolation. Survivor's guilt heavy on his heart, he swore to himself never to let this tragedy happen again, to control the forces that had so ruined his life, and to honor his parents by becoming a powerful mage.

Working from his father's spellbooks and notes and what he had seen him perform, Elric took to the Art with a ferocious intensity and singularity of purpose. His intelligence and his dedication took him farther than many do, even with instructors, but in time he realized he could not learn enough alone. Gathering up anything and everything of value to a mage, he set out, using what magics he had mastered to find a mentor in the magical arts, offering spells from his father's spellbook and secrets gleaned from his father's work in exchange for his arcane education.

Now a conjurer in his own right, Elric wanders as a freelance mage, exterminating extraplanar threats where they can be found, and troubleshooting more mundane threats where they are not, also working as a planar scholar and obsessively researching any information or knowledge pertaining to the planes where he can find it.

Little does he know that on that night long ago, he was spared because his forefathers long ago struck a deal with Graz'zt, a powerful Demon Prince, for skill at arcane magic, and that he was only spared that night because until he learned arcane magic, his soul would not be Graz'zt's to claim...

Character goals:
- To fight against the influence of the Demon Princes, the Lords of the Nine, and the Yugoloths in the Material Plane, hopefully through other means, but if no other way is possible, by ultimately binding them with his magics, when he is powerful enough.
- To prevent what happened to him ever happening to anyone else again (he knows this goal is impossible and irrational, but he feels compelled to try regardless), and to gain the power necessary for this.
- To learn everything he can about the Outer Planes, particularly the Depths Below.
- To discover what happened to his childhood best friend, and save her/resurrect her.

Due to My last dose of Chemo Therapy kicking my ass and the fact I am packing to move up nother to college this monday I may not get my character info in right away. I'll try to do it next week sometime. Is this ok? If not let me know and I will back out.

Good to see lots of interest thus far. That gives me hope. The level will be starting at 1 and there will be no cap to how far I go with the game. If people want to stick around and take it all the way to 10 great. 20 Even better. Epic levels? Sure. The game will run as long as the players keep giving me good things to work with.

Now some might ask, why first level? Its because out of all my time running and playing in games I found that characters played from level 1 and up become more memorable and mean more to the people that make them.

I would ask, however, whether, when handling NPCs and monsters with sub-average intelligence or wisdom, whether you limit their tactical acumen as befits their intelligence or wisdom?

Yes I do. Ive always found this old saying to be true "Intelligence is how smart you are, Wisdom is how stupid you're not". What this means is just because a creature has a lack of intelligence doesnt mean that it cant grasp the obvious. A den of trolls probably wont know military tactics but they will understand the simple things like numbers gives me an advantage or if we both beat on that squishy guy he dies faster and we get hurt less.

Quote from: Glabrezubane on August 20, 2009, 12:07:44 PMFinally, given this is Elliquiy, could we get an idea of how central sex and seduction will be to plot, if at all?

I do not intend to have sex be a big thing. There will be scenes where its there, like naked men/women dancing for a crowds entertainment in an exclusive club/inn or something that that effect. There will also be chances for someone to romance NPCs or even eachother. However from what I have seen in past D&D games on Elliquiy, making a it a central theme detracts from the game and slows it down. So I intend to leave it in the background unless the current story requires it to be out front

The last thing I want to point out is, theres a lot of interest in the arcane spellcaster role but almost none on the divine spellcaster or the wilderness survival ones. At this point, I want to give people more time to flesh their concepts out and really choose what want to play rather then what they think I want playing.

Edit: I was just asked if I would allow Tome of battle in this game. The answer is no, not the whole book and that goes for all the additional books out there. For the most part I want to keep this game core pathfinder. Ill allow small things like feats, skill uses, weapons, etc on a case by case basis but large things like Prestige classes are going to be hard to swing by me

Chloe Milev

Well, seeing as we have a tank (paladin), arcanist (conjurer/sorcerer/other sorcerer), 5th character (bard), I could be a druid to help with healing and wilderness things.  Taking a nature domain instead of animal companion is interesting.  I could take Fire and be a bear that shoots fireballs from its mouth.  When she's not healing people.

I could take crafting feats if other spellcasters don't.

Anyone want a druid sister or other pre-connection to bring the party together?

Callie has said she's planning on a sorcerer/cleric aiming for mystic theurge, and right now I'm leaning towards conjurer, for the record.

Callie Del Noire

Well I offered an option to be a cleric.. so we got 2 healer types..that's good.

indarkestknight

Given bards have a bit of healing, druids do, and paladins do, I think we should be fine on the healing front even without a cleric.

Brandon

The last thing I want to do is influence the choices people make on their characters so Im reluctant to say much about any of them. The thing I will say is a decision has to be made on their starting paths before I can consider them for the game. This is mostly dealing with Callie Del Noire's character who will have to choose cleric or sorcerer as his first class. Anyone else that comes in saying their character can fit multiple classes at a time, will likewise have to choose their starting class before I can consider them
Brandon: What makes him tick? - My on's and off's - My open games thread - My Away Thread
Limits: I do not, under any circumstances play out scenes involving M/M, non-con, or toilet play

indarkestknight

Well, if Callie wanted to dual class from level 1 (apprentice level, I think they called it), I remember rules for that in the 3.0 DMG. Not sure if they were in the 3.5 DMG.

Callie Del Noire

Most likely multiclassing later on.. shooting for mystic theurge.

Brandon

Yeah that doesnt fly with the level 1 concept, sorry. Its either you're all level 1 cleric or all level 1 sorcerer to begin with. The level in the other class is taken later on

RubySlippers

Well I want a character to enjoy romance its a fraking Bard what is the point of not enjoying crafting beautiful ballads of love to my characters muse and gaining the love of someone special. Sex would likely be there for my character at that point.

Oh what dieties are common in the area we are in? It might help choose my dieites patron and who she will spend time writing honor hymns and tributes to not to mention dedicating her work in general.

I only took a bard because I love the Pathfinder version and they fill in well the fighter and healer and rogue slots (kind of) so can be handy. And who better to get into places that you all might have problems like the fortress of some warlord. Bards are welcome even in such halls and can scout and do other tasks without much ,um, concern. And since she is neutral alignment nuances would not matter to her that much.

How are you oding stats, rolling or some other meathod? Rolling often gives interesting results and I don't mind that having a lower than average stat to work with can be interesting.

Brandon

Stats will be generated by point buy with 25 points to spend. Now Im betting someone just went "What Epic fantasy level in a low magic setting?" While in the start this will be very low magic I want to start with epic fantasy attributes because later on you might change the world to the point where magic is much more common, or choose to leave the world and move on to planes walking.

The dieties involved will be the core pathfinder dieties. You would probably like Shelyn, goddess of music, love, romance and art.
Brandon: What makes him tick? - My on's and off's - My open games thread - My Away Thread
Limits: I do not, under any circumstances play out scenes involving M/M, non-con, or toilet play

RubySlippers

Well who says I need to honor one diety she is not a cleric, and as I see it in the afterlife you go to heaven or hell based on your life and deeds not who you worship.

But I was thinking she would honor Shelyn as a bard and well romantic at heart, and follow the Old Ways since her family tend to be nature oriented and as a philosophy it would not be opposed to her patron goddess. And as I read her she is good but tends to be regarded as neutral-ish by most of the powers even evil ones so should get along.

Paladin

So this is a 1st l;evel game? I didn't know exactly because some of the others had mrention 6th level or something like that. As for the point buy system is that with everyone starting out with 8's in their stats then buying or subtracting from there?

RubySlippers

Well I hope so ifs its all 3's we are not going to be all that heroic.  :P

Unless we have a sick GM.  :-\

Paladin

Ok all stats start at 10 now that I've looked. *Sigh* My brain is not working right. Fucking Chemo.

Lunaris

Hmm... So you have a bard taking your 5th slot. I guess that rules out a monk, eh?  :P I was thinking of trying out a Maenad (non-psionic Pathfinder version from Kobold Quarterly, Issue 9) Monk. It's a race that has a slight (understatements are fun!) problem with rage and madness and so, controlling that inner turmoil gives her an excuse to pursue the monk's way of life.

Of course, Maenads are a seafaring people normally found on the coast of Vudra, so I'd probably have to get extra creative (No problem for me. I love a good challenge in character crafting) if I'm going to find a way to have her be in the starting region.

Whether or not you'd approve of a Maenad and whether or not you'd allow a monk and bard (which both seem like "5ths") in the group at the same time, I think I'll still craft the character for the sole reason that once I'm inspired, I *have* to do it, or else I'll lose sleep and daydream frequently at work. :p

RubySlippers

Monks are weak and feeble ...

(looks them up)

Ok they are evil and scary looking I take that back.  ;D

Callie Del Noire

Bayushi

I'd be interested in trying this.

Problem is, I don't have the current Pathfinder version, just the Beta Test.

Nor do I have the cash to buy the PDF.

Character name: Nialyssa
Character Age: 20
Character Race: Gnome
Character Alignment: Neutral Good
Character class: Cleric
Character Role: Divine Spellcaster/Healer

Character description:

Character Personality: Nialyssa is an often chirpy and boisterous young gnome, who enjoys engaging random strangers in conversation. When she gets it in her head that someone needs love, she becomes one possessed in finding love for that one, even if it means that it is she who must love that one.

Character Background: Nialyssa was raised as a human child for a number of years, having been found abandoned in a mine shaft near a large human settlement. As she grew older, she didn't really grow taller, which lead to people whispering amongst themselves, believing she was cursed, or not human.

Uncaring as to the scrutiny paid her by the people she grew up around, Nialyssa grew into an early puberty for a gnome, an effect that came upon her by the very fact that she grew up around people who had their puberty far earlier than gnomes did. A sudden growth spurt had her start catching up with the other girls of the town, but she was still looked upon as strange, or shunned by others. Starting into the years of her life where romance became important, she felt as if she was ugly, while her 'mother' assured her she was anything but.

Finally, the little girl ran from her village to the Temple of the Goddess of Love and Beauty, to pray to the goddess for deliverance from her ugly appearance.

Overhearing her tearful prayer, a senior priestess approached Nialyssa, adamant in her words that Nialyssa was anything but ugly. So small and cute that the Priestess asked her if she'd be interested in the clergy.

Eager to escape the stares and whispers of her village, Nialyssa eagerly accepted the offer, and spent the next twelve years in learning of the goddess, of magic, of arms and armor, and finally, of the arts of lovemaking. She wasn't to be a 'whore', but to be a vessel of the goddess' love, even if that meant making love to another.

Character goals:
  • Help people find love
  • Find love herself
  • Become one with the Goddess' will

I will post character sheet soon.[/list]

Wow,.makes me wish I hadn't sent my cleric to the GM already. :D

I think I need to reiterate that this games only allowed material without express approval is the Pathfinder core material. Meaning you can use whatever you like out of the pathfinder core book, anything else has to go through me. Ive already Oked a couple non-core (spontaneous healer and augmented healing from complete divine) feats but thats it. That said, Lunaris if you really want to try this Maened youll have to send me the info

So far we have a lot of competition for the various positions so let me put up the updated list. This is of course people who have acctually gone through that whole initial process of writing up the character info (again mechanics arent required at this point in time).

Front line fighter: Paladin (Andreas Whitefire)
Wilderness specialist:
Arcane spellcaster: Glabrezubane (Elric Athenis or Savitar)
Divine spellcaster: Callie Del Noire (Kyrie Ebonblade), Akiko (Nialyssa)
Wild card: Rubyslippers (Miriam, The Jewel of Arlia)

People who have characters in the works but have not sent anything in yet: BlueMary (druid of some kind), Chloe Milev (Druid of some kind), Lunaris (monk)

I am not ruling out anyone at this time, if I saw any big problems you would have gotten a PM or I would have said something here. That said, I could add in a 6th slot as another wildcard or as something the group lacks but Im not going to be able to fit 8 people into the game. Sadly someones going to get left out and knowing that Im giving everyone and I mean everyone every chance I can to write out those characters till they're satisfied with them and think theyve done their best

Name    Tianna "Wildfire" Miller
Age    19
Race    Human
Alignment    Neutral good
Class    Druid
Role    Wilderness expert / Healer
Description    A tall girl, but she moves with efficient grace.  Her medium brown hair is in many small braids piled on her head to hang down a little, with a few beads and decorations thrown in.  Dressed in hide armor, she nevertheless tries to keep herself as clean and well-kempt as possible.  As sexuality is an important part of the natural world, she isn’t shy about presenting herself attractively.
Personality    Tianna, or Wildfire as she is known by people outside her village, is cheerful and friendly, especially for most druids, but is serious when it comes to matters of ecology and conservation.  She knows nature itself is in a balance, and adding people and settlements to the equation makes everything much more important to monitor.  Being in tune with the cycles of nature, she isn’t too worried by disasters or other misfortunes, like theft and murder, as they are natural parts of survival and nature.  She is human, however, and would try to stop anyone from getting hurt while protecting the balances of both nature and society.
Background    Tianna was born in a small village near the forest, the daughter of a miller.  Growing up, she saw that as the village expanded, they cut down trees, and the animals she used to see were more rare.  As a teen, she spent more and more time exploring the forest, getting to know its paths and inhabitants better than anyone else, eventually spending more time there than with other people.  One hot summer, there was a drought, and a chance flame set the dry crops and grassland aflame.  It seemed to spread instantly throughout the village and into the forest, burning all to the ground.  As Tianna was in the forest as usual, the villagers thought her dead, until she finally stumbled to their makeshift camp a few days later, covered in soot and scratches.  She had been herding animals away from the fire, when she was caught in a ring.  Tianna survived by finding a large burrow and clawing her way down, burying herself as the flames covered the ground.  After this near-death experience, she seemed to have come to a new awareness and enlightenment.  Saying goodbye to her family, she went back to the burnt village to study the effects and process of regrowth.  Now calling herself Wildfire, she ranges out, seeking to learn more about nature and the primal forces that change everything.
Currently in Arlia consutling on agricultural techniques and stability, animal husbandry and conservation, and even speaking with animals sometimes to learn migration and hunting patterns.
Goals    To experience new environments, climates, flora, and fauna, and learn applications of ecology and conservation to shore up the balances.

Okay, this is my level 20 build, just in case anyone had some suggestions for cooler things.  Obviously we're not at level 20 yet, but one can hope for the future.

I might have to be the one you leave behind. While I'm not worried about passing any sort of quality control with my writing ability, *buffs nails* I can say that I won't be able to finish working on my character until Monday at the least due to some very long shifts at work this weekend. If you don't mind that long of a wait, I can post her up when she's all done.

If not...well... Darn. :p

Nothing wrong with two clerics, Callie.

Mine isn't very combat-capable, being a 'weak' little gnome. She's a good healer and caster, and a pretty good people person. She's pretty naive, which is by the player's design, of course. I want her to be taken advantage of...  ;D

Well, I don't know if it's allowed, but in Unearthed Arcana, there's the Conjurer variant of Rapid Summoning, where your summon monster spells are only 1 standard action to cast (making them available for quickening later) at the cost of your familiar.

And Knowledge (engineering) is always fun.  "I've run out of fly spells.  But I can build a trebuchet..."

Or in this case, arcane bond in general. I'd definitely be willing to make that trade.

I'm actually kind of curious about Knowledge (tactics) from d20 Modern and whether he'd allow that...

with shields (except tower shields). Clerics are also proficient with the favored weapon of their deities.

Aura[Ex]A cleric of a chaotic, evil, good, or lawful deity has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to

the deity’s alignment (see the detect evil spell for details).

DomainsGood, Granted Power:

Orisons[Sp]Clerics can prepare a number of orisons, or 0-level spells, each day. They can cast these spells at

Orisons are treated like any other spell cast by the cleric in terms of duration and other variables based on level. Orisons

cannot be channeled through spontaneous casting.
Spontaneous CastingA good cleric (or a neutral cleric of a good deity) can channel stored spell energy into

healing spells that she did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison in order

The Maenad Monk I intended to go with is a no-go due to her race veering too far from the Core. And... knowing me, any other level one character I dream up will likely have the same issues as I have a tendency to go for the exotic, so I guess that puts me out and leaves that magic cast number of 7 PCs. I'll be reading from the sidelines as it sounds like this game could have a fun story... So...have fun, everyone!  ;D

Brandon

Its a shame to loose you but thems the breaks. Ill be happy to have you lurking though. So I think I'm going to change that starting story a bit, you'll still be private agents but I have something much more maddening and horrific in mind then my original initial story idea. What is it? well Ill still bring you together in the same way but Ill have you investigate something else, as for the rest you'll just have to wait and see  >:)

So I think Ill make final choices on Wednesday. That means everyone has till tuesday night at Midnight to get character concepts in. Again to reiterate mechanics are not needed at this time, even though a lot of you have done them.

I went different with my bard with the GM ok in she is a Puppeteer and Storyteller (oratory) I figure with the right cantrips and a flair for it she can make a nice living.

And I intend to take Craft Wonderous Item no use being a Master Puppeteer without magic Mage Hand empowered puppets to use.

Plus its a nice way to perform children adore puppets and its something a bard would not normally take.

#56
Character name: Ashley
Character Age: 21
Character Race: Human
Character Alignment: Chaotic good
Character class: Ranger
Character Role: Nature's guide

Character description: Ash stands at a modest height of 5'6" and as a general rule has her oddly burgundy hair up in a messy ponytail, or underneath her cloak.  Her trim figure smacks of her archer profession with deft fingers, swift legs and keen eyes.  She is a bit too toned to be considered properly curved as a less physical woman would be.  Her armor is more often than not a lighter variety as anything further would impede her acrobatics.  Along the front of her throat is a jagged scar that mars her otherwise more or less smooth skin and though a few others dot her body, this one stands out as a wound one generally doesn't survive from.  Dark blue eyes constantly watch for potential danger behind a smile that ranges from warm to sad, but rarely leaves her lips to give her a sort of melancholy aura combating her natural stoicism.

Character Personality: Ash is a fiercely protective guardian of herself and those very few she deems friends.  Though she remains distant, she wears an odd, sad sort of smile that seems to rarely leave her lips.  Talking is difficult with the scar as her voice can quickly become raspy and strained, so she generally stays with simple gestures or hand sign to those that know it.  As such, she can be perceived as shy which would not be far from the truth, though for reasons of a lack of effective communication rather than an unwillingness to meet new people.

Character Background: Life was hard, but rewarding, for Ash and her family.  Growing up near the Swamplands had its advantages, such as a more or less ready supply of rain.  With it came the dangers of creatures and things that muck about in the murky depths of the swamps.  As stated, life was hard, but rewarding.  Ash had a loving family; a father who was a skilled farmer as well as a swordsman, a mother whose archery was hard to match, and two brothers who were endearingly overprotective of their little sister.  Even more there was a town less than five miles away, so help was always readily available.  But even still, such measures are sometimes for naught.

An upstart sorcerer had gathered many of the swamps' native inhabitants to arms against the nearby human town, with a hopeful tyrant having their dreams of grandeur in carving out a little kingdom of their own.  The attack happened swiftly.  Far too swiftly for one of the swampfolks' simple raids.  She was in town when the first shouts of an attack came, followed by thick clouds of smoke in the distance in the direction of home.  Without a second thought she dropped her bag of supplies and sprinted off to home.  The moment she stepped over the crest of a hill, a stray arrow caught her in the throat and sent her to what would have been her death had some escaping farmer hadn't dragged her back to town where a proper defense could be mounted.

A week later, the girl awoke with a ragged scream that nearly rent her throat again.  A woman who knew Ash had sat by her in her recovery and did her best to calm the poor girl, and finally did manage to get her to stop trying to fall out of bed.  The woman tried to tell her that going home would be useless, but in much kinder words with a soothing motherly tone to them.  The words sounded muffled in her as ears the woman spoke of her dead family.  Their bravery before they died meant nothing at the moment, only that she had no home to go back to.  Ashley tried to move on, staying in the village to do odds and ends here and there for money, though she was never short of a spare bed offered by kind neighbors.  Still...time never was an expedient healer, and with the slightest of whispers that the person who started the little rebellion arose, the villagers woke to find the girl missing, with merely a note  with "Goodbye" written on it and left on her final pillow.

She walked for a time, though how much of it mattered little.  She had a tiniest hope of vengeance, and damn the gods if she couldn't have this shred of closure.  Her parents' teachings served her well as she moved through the roads, protecting herself and the occasional other who happened across trouble.  Recently, she had taken out a small group of bandits who had been pestering traveling merchants leaving and entering Arlia, and is now staying in the inn for the time being.

Character goals:
-Kill whoever happened to be involved with her family's death.
-Become skilled enough so that if the day does happen where her revenge is to be dealt, she can do it well.
-Serve the memory of her parents' well, helping those who have need.

(I like this one better. >> )

Umm crap. I didn't realize the deadline was tonight. I have been moving into my new apt for the past 2 days and just got most stuff unpacked. I haven't had time to think about anything else. Any chance I could get a small extension of 2 days considering the situation? I could have the character done by Thursday night. Right now I'm very exhausted and darn sore from all the moving. I guess if I can't get an extension then I can't play cause right now I'm braindead and theres no way I will get anything done by tonight.

Hi there. I'm slightly new to El and catching this on the tail end of things. Any chance that I might be able to slip into the story? I don't have the books, and haven't really read them thoroughly, but I'm familiar with D&D up to 3.5. I can look for an on-line source to get started. I'm also willing to play needed roles (did I hear something about needing front-line types?)

I'd be most into something kind of rogue-ish. Please let me know if I'm still welcome, and I'll put some work into this. I don't mind slipping into the group a short bit into the story, so you guys can get started.

*crosses her fingers and hopes for leniency*

Edit: Okay, after reading the rest of the thread, it seem s like the group is already way full. I'll leave the game to people more versed in the rules! Thanks anyway, and good luck guys!

Paladin

Ok I got it done.

Character name: Andreas Whitefire
Character Age: 20-25
Character Race: Human
Character Alignment: Lawful Good. (Not Lawful Stupid)
Character class: Paladin
Character Role: Frontline Fighter

Character description:

He’s tall with Platinum blue hair and Green Eyes and a Fairly Pale Complexion.

Character Personality: Andreas is a person who runs on Instinct and Faith. He’s a calm quiet fellow and seems withdrawn but eventually is open and honest with his friends and those he trusts, or who will open up to him.  He’s not afraid to say what is on his mind about any particular situation and is Loyal to a fault with those he cares about.

Character Background: Orphaned at birth Andreas was adopted by a loving and caring family who had a young girl. Growing up together the two bonded and were inseparable as friends. At the age of thirteen Andreas was attacked by a creature that no one could identify and was saved by a man in shining armor on horseback who carried a great shining blade. The man took Andreas to the Towns church where he healed his wounds. From that moment on Andreas knew he wanted to be like that man. The man came to town on a monthly basis and visited with the boy teaching him all he knew until Andreas was old enough to go into training on his own. Through this time his constant support was his Adoptive sister. Over the years though they grew apart until she finally was married off to a prince in a foreign land and Andreas rarely heard from her except twice a year through letters. Andreas completed his training at the age of 19 and rode off with his mentor to rid the world of Evil and help those in need. Every few months he would come back through the town to see his adoptive parents. On his last visit the news his parents had was devastating. His sister had been abducted by a Demon and her Husband slain. Andreas calmly walked out of the house, mounted his horse and Rode off to his sister’s castle to start his search for his sister. He’s been searching since.

Character goals:  To Help those in need, and to recover his sister and bring her home safe.

RubySlippers, Akiko? I noticed your skills are off. You're only able to have as many ranks in a skill as you have levels (1 rank at 1st, 20 ranks at 20th), but you get a +3 bonus to all class skills, and cross-class skills now cost 1-for-1, just like class skills.

Also, RubySlippers, I might recommend you ask Brandon about taking Versatile Performer from Complete Adventurer, since it lets you use your ranks in one Perform skill for several other Perform skills.

Sorry for not catching this earlier.

Paladin

I do have a question. is certain things from Book of Exalted Deeds Legal to use? I mean Feats and some items?

Yes I'm making adjustments now in my character.

RubySlippers

Oh I have a question do you need a seperate skill for instruments a dancer would be trained to use such as castanets, tamborines and bells worn if they are not used for the relevant bard skill (countersong). Kind of a biggy I will need a skill for those if not.

Brandon

Instruments are grouped by the type of instrument they represent. So A lute and Mandolin would both be stringed instruments. I think its fine to group items used by other perfomances

Book of exalted deeds is also fine (it happens to be my favorite book)

Ill be making choices today so please hold off on the questions till I post whos in and who isnt

It makes sense to me to after all there are only a few dancers instruments anyway I just don't like having to use to many skills for performing at 1st level. So if I can assume she can use them for assisting that performance then thats good.

Wha? Is this some kinda Pathfinder thing? As I never saw this in 3.x.

Pathfinder. In the long term, it makes cross-class skills much stronger, and skill points in general a lot easier to keep track of, especially for multi-class characters.

Er. >_>

Search, Listen, and Spot have been rolled into one skill: Perception, which is Wisdom-based, and gnomes get +2 on all Perception checks.

Probably best if we just wait for Brandon to set up a character sheet thread to make the adjustments, though.

Also, I should note: at first level, you don't get x4 the skill points. You get the same skill points at every level, instead, which is 2+Int for clerics. However, at first level, you pick one core class as a favored class, and you get either one extra hp or one extra skill point per level in that class. So, max, with your stats, Akiko, would be 5 skill points.

How'd you get 180 gp for your starting equipment? Average for bards is only 105 gp.

Ok, is it just me or did humans get shafted in Pathfinder?

Callie Del Noire

Not really.. they gave the half breeds a massive shot in the arm though.

Humans have always been one of the strongest and most versatile of races. Adding a free +2 wherever you want on top of a free feat and free skill points? I'd hardly call that shafted.

Callie Del Noire

It is when you get the choice of two other races that can choose. (To some folks anyway). Plus half elves get the choice of TWO favored classes. More ways to get HP/SP

I think humans are still fairly balanced though. A feat and +1 SP every level is pretty good.

indarkestknight

True, but consider that originally, half-elves were the race no one EVER took for stats. Besides, that's only really useful for those who plan on multi-classing. For mono-classers, or those who plan on using one core class and a prestige class (or a slew of them, as the case may be), that's not that strong a draw. Skill Focus is useful, but not everyone is going to take it over a free feat of your choice.

Callie Del Noire

Yeah, I'm kinda bummed to not have made the cut since NO one on any of the boards I cruise is recruiting. :D

Humans and Half Elves have specific twists.. (not mention I think one of the prestige classes in teh book requires Skill Focus right?)

Paladin

Ok I've left my book of Exalted Deed 5 hours south of me. Theres a feat I want from it for my character. Divine Radiance I think, and then theres one that allows you to count any weapon you hold as Good Aligned for the purpose of damage reduction. Can someone look these up for me?

indarkestknight

I think you're thinking of Nimbus of Light or Holy Radiance.

Nimbus of Light is a prerequisite for Holy Radiance, and gives you a +2 on Diplomacy and Sense Motive against good creatures while active. It also makes you shed light as a common lamp while active: bright light within 5 ft, and shadowy illumination within 10 ft. You can extinguish this at will, and reactivate it as a free action.

Holy Radiance requires Cha 15 and Nimbus of Light. At will as a free action, you can empower your radiance surrounding you into a blazing glow that sheds bright light in a 10 ft. radius and shadowy illumination within 20 ft. Undead within 10 ft. take 1d4 points of damage per round they remain within the halo.

I think the feat you were talking about was Sanctify Martial Strike. It requires Cha 15 and Weapon Focus with a specific weapon, such as longswords or handaxes or such. With that specific weapon, you deal an extra 1 point of damage to evil creatures, or 1d4 points to evil outsiders and evil undead. The weapon is considered good-aligned for purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

Paladin

Yes I was thinking of Nimbus of Light. thanks man.
