*(Based on fictional Earth in middle of the Industrial Revolution)*

Pritannia - A medium sized country at the peak of its industrial might. It supplies the rest of the countries on the continent with everything from basic materials all the way to manufactured goods. For generations its leadership has not been from a male dominated society but a female one. The hundreds of years the country as remained stable and prosperous under its leadership, resolving with negotiation and clever politics with the other kingdoms to get what it needed, but that changed when the Great Queen Alda died of old age. The apparent heir to the throne, Princess Geion, at 20 was still to young to properly rule the country in the mind set of the female dominated court, a panic spread through the court as a proper substitute had to be found, that was when someone stormed into the throne room with the backing of the entire male royal guard. The previously unknown Prince Linus Verdun, an older male son to the late Queen that had been hidden from court his entire life. All of his teenage life he had been formulating his revenge against the crown for denying his birthright. The prince was enlisted as a field grade officer (A major) by the queen under a different name to prevent the officers knowing his real identity, during several border skirmishes during a colonial war a few years back. He revealed who he really was (through a symbolic locket that his mother gave him). Then the political influence began to spread through the majority of the upper ranks of the military who were disgruntled by the recent heavy budget cut backs of the military by the Queen since there were only a handful of actual battles. Once the skirmishes were over he had the loyalty of the majority of the army. But he also needed the Naval Fleet. The Navy would be easy, all he had to promise them was a higher military budget and they would support him. Many officers would be transferred to land based positions or decommissioned. With the majority of the army and navy under his control all he had to do was corrupt some of the higher ups in court. He had learned of his mothers death and had come to claim his birthright, against all  the traditions of the Kingdom and reason, Linus installed himself as King of Pritannia, literally at gun point. A great storm of chaos is rising within the kingdom...

How it happened:

In the capital city of Lindus, there exists four different regiments of the royal guard that one would guard the castle during a certain time of the year (seasons). They would rotate the entire guard after the passing of each season in a traditional changing of the guards ceremony. When they are off shift there is a royal guards barracks within the capital city. This is where the Prince would travel to gain his influence over the three regiments currently housed there. The upper officers swore loyalty to the Queen and princess so in secret he trained a small group of infantry royal guards who had some basic schooling and were eager for higher positions. When news of the Queens death was confirmed the group of soldiers burst into the officers quarters and arrested the ones who would not swear loyalty to the prince, the prisoners where killed in secret and once the changing of the guard took place his supporters would be in position to commence the coup. No one would know the difference in the guards due to the masks. Once the group of royal guard that were still loyal to the queen arrived back at the barracks they were also arrested in secret.

Basis of the story:

The story will revolve around the politics of the court and the country beginning to tear at the seams between the new king and the princess. A revolution is starting to brew within the country to try and overthrow the new tyrannical king. The King has the support of the military and high members of court. The people are split usually based on gender, males in support of the new king, and females in support of the old ways.

Current Positions wanted: (Player suggestions welcome)
Princess Geion (Female)
Captain of the Kings Guard (Male)
Members of Court (Majority Female, with Males installed by the king)
- Either in support of the King or not
Ambassadors to neighboring countries (Male/Female)((Country names to be made by character player))

CASTELII ALLIANCE

The Castelii Alliance was formed 60 years ago after the Silmorith Republic negotiated a constitution to unite with the Ochairul and Aruatilis Empires.  The three formed an Imperial Republic to unite the continent of Castelii under a central flag.  The Alliance remains neutral in affairs beyond their borders, their own internal politics complicated enough as it is.  The three powers maintain separate identities, though are united under the Chancellorship, which rotates every six years to one of the Imperial Lords, who serves as Emperor of their own kingdoms.  The smaller kingdoms, each given their own county to rule, sends a direct representative of their sovereign to the House of Lords, while the general populace elects representatives for the Parliamentary Council.

The Castelii military is second only to Pritannia, with three large fleets and a large collective army.  The Castelii Navy has only just begun making the conversion to steam, with the first ships expected to launch later this year.  Each fleet is made up of members from each empire, serving according to ability and not political position.  The Army of Castelii is made up of seven legions, each 4000 men strong.  Each legion is responsible for maintaining defense over a region of land, and has the authority to direct local police forces.  When not engaged in active combat, each legion is responsible for building and maintaining the military's infrastructure, including fortresses, bridges, roads, and other strategic targets.  There is an eighth legion, the Chancellor's Own, who answer directly to the Chancellor.  The Chancellor's Own often gets dispatched overseas to fight in defense of Castelii's national interests.

Ambassador O'Lali de Danara answers directly from Chancellor Al'vere, Imperial Lord of the Silmorith Republic.  Her assignment is to protect Castelii interests in Pritannia, with a detachment of 30 of the Chancellor's Own.  With the militant rise of Prince Verdun to power, she maintains close correspondence with chancellor Al'vere with fast clipper ships.  So far, the Castelii House of Lords has remained quiet about the situation, though Parliament has sent an official letter advocating for a joint sovereignty between both King and Princess.  Carried in a box of finely crafted ebony, this letter will be the first task of Ambassador O'lali to deliver to the King.

The Royal Guard:

Among the thousands of applicants in the Pritannian military only a handful are ever selected for the elite task of serving as the royal family's bodyguards. Certain loyalty, strength, and courage are needed to gain entry into the most elite unit in Pritannia. 4,000 strong they watch over both the Royal Castle, Royal territories, and enforce the will of the ruler. They are sworn to serve the current ruler of the country. In this case they are sworn to serve Linus Verdun as the new King of Pritannia.

Herrix Castle:

Front

High atop the mountain overlooking the captial city, Herrix Castle has been the center of political and military power in Pritannia for hundreds of years. The castle seems that it would be cramped for space, but once you enter it you find that it is just the opposite. Grand ball rooms, state rooms, and a massive Throne Room show off the complexity of Pritannian architecture.

Pritannia

Climate:

Pritannia has a very mild climate in the summer months but during the winter months the western side of the country is immersed in snow and cold. Late June to early August is when the weather is warmest and the days are long and bright. Temperatures in July and August can reach 25°C - 30°C. At the same time there is hardly any humidity in the air. Sea temperatures can reach 18°C and higher, making swimming a popular pastime. The warmest and most stable weather usually occurs on the eastern side of the southern mountains. However on the Eastern side the temperatures vary. When westerly winds prevail, the weather is warm and clear. There may be days when it is cold enough to snow, and days when it is warm enough to sit outside in the sunshine. Spring months can also be very windy.

Economy:

The country is at the height of its industrial revolution. The majority of the western coastline is dominated by large industrial cities choked with black smoke. There is a saying that you can always see Pritannian smoke before you see land. Due to other countries lagging behind in technology Pritannia has become a economic superpower in the region. Country send its vast raw minerals to Pritannia to be processed and built into products and materials to be used in everyday life. The best known export from Pritannia though is its weapons. Pritannian firearms and swords are high quality and durrable but most of all they are mass produced making them vastly cheaper than others. The Eastern side of the country is relatively untouched by industry due to it being further away from popular sea trade routes. The country side is dominated by miles and miles of vast farmlands and local villages.

Name: Linus Verdun
Played by: Vostroya
Position: King of Pritannia
Country of Origin: Pritannia
Age: 29
Appearance:

Personality: Paranoid, Pompous, Tyrannical, Cold
Background: Born as the first son to the late Queen Alba. As a child he was shunned away from the Court of Pritannia due to him being a male and he threatened to divide the people if he were to be known as the heir to the throne, since the kingdom had always been dominated by women. He was raised by close friends to the queen out in the country side far away from the Capital. The Queen thought by having him raised in the quiet country side that he would grow up to be a normal citizen. However one fateful summer day would change his fate forever. While cleaning a closet in his childhood home at the age of 16, Linus found a small golden locket with his picture as a baby with the royal family. At this point in his life he did not know he was the true heir to the throne. The picture wouldn't have startled him had it not been for the baby had the same birth scars that Linus had as a child due to his difficult birth. The last straw was upon further investigation he found his original birth certificate locked away in the family safe showing his original name of Prince Linus Verdun.

After learning of his true identity Linus became enraged at his true mothers betrayal of her own son. He swore to the heavens that the kingdom would be his by his birth right or die trying. In the meantime he kept up a mask of innocence around his foster parents. When he was 19 he received his drafting notice from the Queen stating that he was to be drafted into the officers corp of the Army to lead a unit against the insurgents along the border. This was the chance he was waiting for, he could gather power and it would be such a distance that he could do it without raising to many eyebrows. His career in the army flourished rising quickly within the ranks of power, after the border skirmishes were over, Linus enacted his plan, with the majority of the Army under his influence along with the Navy, he set about corrupting the Royal Guard, the key lynch pin in his plan. Without their support he couldn't maintain his power base.

After the Royal Guards were under his thumb he had only one more obstacle, the court of Pritannia would never support a male heir to the throne, but with any Royal Court there were those who wanted more power and influence than they had. Only a few key players had to be corrupted to ensure that he knew the exact moment to commence the Coup. When the entire court was in the Castle to discuss who would be the Royal Regent to rule in place of the young princess, the Royal Guard sealed the castle and Linus rode into the Capital with a regiment of the Army to secure the city from riots as he took power. Riding to the Castle he walked into the throne room and sat upon the Throne of Pritannia where he crowned himself King.

Name: O'lali de Danara
Played by: Linna
Position: Ambassador from the Aruatilis Empire
Country of Origin: Aruatilis Empire, Castelii Alliance
Supports: Neutral
Age: 32
Appearance:
Personality: Calm, Sophisticated, Difficult to Anger
Background: O'lali was born in Danara, a rural province in the borderlands between the Silmorith Republic and the Aruatilis Empire.  Danara is mostly known for its fertile farmlands where the Kirz and Canis Rivers meet.  O'lali's father, Perelli, was Imperial Governor of the territory, ensuring the taxes were collected and properly paid as well as keeping an eye on the Andaria beyond the Conath Mountains.  O'lali is the eldest daughter, and second eldest child.  Her elder brother, Janel was of course destined to take over the post of Imperial Governor, but Perelli ensured she still had adequate education to pursue any career she wanted.

O'lali was originally going to teach advanced language and government at the Imperial Academy of Horus when her father passed away.  A band of farmers, hoping Janel would be timid taking the office, tried to submit to the Silmorith Republic and send their taxes to them, which are less than those of the Aruatilis Empire.  Janel, worried of being seen as weak, sent a band of troops to bring the farmers back in line.  O'lali went with them, and was thankful for going.  The farmers spoke Silmoraa with a Faidehnii accent.  The soldiers only spoke native Aruatilis and Royal Silmoraa, meaning the farmers were agitated by the thick and confusing language spoken by the soldiers.

O'lali began translating for the two groups, explaining that as citizens of the Empire, they were required to remain loyal to the Emperor.  If they were unhappy, they could leave, but they would be made to give up their lands.  The farmers began to grow more and more agitated, complaining they couldn't live with the expensive taxes levied against them by the Empire.  The situation was going nowhere, and it was becoming obvious the farmers were certain they wanted to join the Republic.  Finally, after negotiations failed, O'lali told the Captain that the farmers were to be forcibly expelled, and farmers loyal to the Empire would be given the land.

The farmers were naturally angry, but they were escorted to the border and exiled from the Empire into the Silmorith Republic.  The Captain, while upset that they had to remove the farmers, later admitted that he would've ordered the farmers away anyway without giving them a chance.  O'lali was a natural diplomat, he said, and he sent his recommendations up the chain of command.  Eventually, word reached the court of Emperor Revis.  Her status as a daughter of a reliable Imperial Governor and sister to another meant her family connections, as well as her mastery of languages and government, made her a natural candidate for an ambassador appointment.

When Emperor Revis became Chancellor of the Alliance, he chose O'lali as his translator for the court.  Her natural gift with languages made sure all messages to the Chancellor were delivered properly and clearly.  She made quite the impression, and while only a translator, she was dispatched to the far corners of the Alliance to negotiate in the name of the Chancellor.  No less than four border skirmishes have been averted due to her influence, and so when the Chancellorship rotated to Minister Al'vere of the Silmorith Republic, she was asked to stay.  With the current abdication crisis of Pritannia, she has been dispatched via fast clipper to deliver a message from Parliament and from the Chancellor.

I have a question about the technology of the age. Is it mainly swords or are guns such as rifles in use? I ask because if I am making an someone in the military I want to know whether they would be wearing heavy armor for sword combat or less due to guns making it useless.

Vostroya

Its a mixture, this is the time during the transition from relatively inaccurate musket rifles to rifled. So a typical battle would entail army's firing volleys at each other until the range got down to the point of sword combat.

Name: Fervelli Dumorra
Played by: Linna
Position: General of the Castelli Army
Country of Origin: Ochairul Empire
Supports: Neutral
Age: 58
Appearance:
Personality: Stoic, Calm, Analytic
Background: Fervelli was born in Caladen at the base of the Ochairul Mountains.  Caladen was constantly under attack by raiders coming from the nearby Reeni peninsula, and spent most of his youth behind the thick stone walls of the city.  At the age of 13 he was enrolled in military prep school by his father, hoping the training would allow Fervelli to gain a post in the proud Ochairul Army and help defend their city.  When he turned 17, Fervelli was tested and accepted as a young officer, and placed in command of a troop of men.  His real genius, however, was in siege warfare.  As a young lieutenant, he led his men beyond the wall to attack a previously unknown outpost of Reeni raiders, using the hide out to spy on the city without being detected from the trade roads in and out of the city.

Fervelli's rise in the military suffered fits and starts.  His success in anticipating Reeni raiders proved useful on campaigns, but his genius was often overlooked as being too controversial.  Some commanders saw him as an upstart, as someone who needed to follow commands rather than try and dictate battles.  Careful treading on his part kept Fervelli from becoming the target of irate commanders, and by age 40 he had earned the title of Under General, with a small army to call his own.  Rather than be content with a post that was, in essence a retirement for some, Fervelli petitioned to launch a campaign into the Reeni peninsula.  His petitions fell on deaf ears until the Emperor heard of his request, and asked to meet the general so keen on engaging the enemy.

At the meeting, Fervelli explained how the Reeni would continue to prey upon the Empire unless they were dealt with suitably enough that they would be hesitant to return to the Empire, and if so, to only do so in forces that would be too large to disappear.  The Emperor was impressed, and commanded that Fervelli clear out the dangerous caves beneath the city of Sverteg, high in the mountains.  The campaign began, and the army began their march into the mountains, where they had to be careful of snipers and other hazards.  Attrition was the biggest danger, but Fervelli sent scouts ahead to ensure the way was clear.  The complaints of carting the heavy siege machinery up the steep mountains was nearly unbearable, but when the army camped out outside the walls of Sverteg, the presence of the artillery soon made their presence known.

The siege began with the thunder of heavy guns firing upon the walls, keeping the defenders pinned down while Fervelli's engineers began to dig.  They were searching for an entrance to the caves under the city.  After two weeks, an entrance had been dug, and soldiers poured in.  The defenders were focused upon the wall, and were unprepared when soldiers appeared from the shafts in droves.  The city was thrown into chaos, and fell later that night.  A dispatch was sent to the Emperor, asking him for further instructions.  The Emperor's reply was simply, "Make the Reeni afraid to leave their homes."

Fervelli spent the next twenty years fighting the Reeni, laying siege to their cities and securing them in the name of the Empire.  His genius in using siege machines ensured that the enemy fortifications always fell, and when rebuilt by his own engineers, left a hidden flaw to be exploited by the Empire.  When he was recalled, he was told he would be made one of the Chancellor's Own, to serve as Warmaster.  He was sent with Ambassador O'lali as commander of the Chancellor's Own aboard the heavy frigate Techtanus.

*10/26/10* sorry about that now we have one more character sheet left to fill

CrazyIvan

Name: Richard Rayless
Played by: CrazyIvan
Position: Captain of the King's Guard
Country of Origin: Pritannia
Supports: The King (currently)
Age: 28
Appearance: Still looking for one
Personality: Calm, Analytical, Patient, and Caring
Background: Richard was born to a well off and noble family, his mother was in the court and father a member of the royal guard. Though he would never know what it was like to be rich or even well off as his family would soon fall from the court. There downfall came from the fact that they were one of the established and powerful families, but because they were without heir, for the longest time this made them a target of an attack. As without an heir they would have no one to claim there wealth and power. Soon after Richard was power his parents were killed by the someone in the court, Richard never knew who though. Richard barely managed to survive and only got away due to his nanny who under orders of his parents took him away to save him. They also never announced his birth so he would not be hunted and could live on and maybe claim back his title.

He lived with his nanny and her husband and was raised as there child for the early years. When he was in his teen years they finally told him what he was, knowing that he would accept it more and understand now that he was older. Though he was angry at first he still loves them and forgives as he knows why they had to do it and wanted to keep him safe. Once he knew however he couldn't let it stand that his family was killed over a title, money, and for who knows what else. He couldn't let it stand, but the only way to get close to the court was to be part of the army, especially as a male from a lowly family. So he joined the army to try and be a royal guard, by chance he also joined at the same time as Linus Verdun.

Richard was always a patient and well planned guy so he was fine to hold back and wait and advance in ranks. During that though he would come into contact with Linus and learn of his plan. He would get close to Linus and become one of his more trusted followers. Linus also was one of the few to know of Richards past and how his position in the court was also stolen from him. Richard was one of the people that not only was trained a bit by Linus but helped trained the others. When Linus rode into the city it was Richard that helped secure his position and stood as the kings guard as he sat on the throne.

Excellent characters just need Destiny Ascensions and we can start

Ok before I start writing up the game thread I would like to get interest in what will be the opening scene so far I have three options but I am open to ideas.

1. A few weeks after the coronation of Linus as King, a massive demonstration by supporters of the late Queen approaches the Castle during Court. What Linus will do with them is still up in the air in the minds of the court members.
2. During Court a noblewoman speaks out against a new policy that Linus is going to enact.
3. Basic introduction so the characters can talk to each other?

GloomCookie

Personally I'd prefer to see what Linus does to the demonstrators.  If he's heavy handed, that might increase tensions with the Alliance and create tension amongst the court.

I agree with Linna.  It would certainly give some of the nobles reason to get into a bit more court intrigue....some wondering if they did the right thing in supporting Linus.

Destiny Ascension

Name: Lanaya Almond
Played by: DestinyAscension
Position: Noble of the Pritannian Court, former Captain of the Queen's Intelligence Branch, former spy for the Queen.
Country of Origin: Pritannia
Supports: Relatively Neutral, prefered to see the Princess rule.
Age: 27
Appearance:
Personality: Hard to provoke, analytical, loyal to Pritannia, as honor bound as spies come, had friends in every corner of the capital, from thugs to merchants and many in the military; she can get information. Would prefer to see the Princess in power, but wants only the most stable for Pritannia.
Background: Born and raised by a wandering group of gypsies more than a straight up family, Lanaya really grew up without much of anything, least of all a family. She had a mother and father and 8 siblings, but she was as much to anyone as they were to her; quite frankly, nothing. All the love and attention she received, but only on infrequent and characteristically dangerous nights where the traveling band existed as squatters on some farmers land did she have a bed to sleep on, or anything other than the ground. Food was scarce, shelter even more so. From a young age, Lanaya was raised to be self-reliant and cautious, aggressive when she needed to be and overall using her head instead of her tongue or fists to get her out of trouble. It served her well growing up, but as seasons dragged on and her siblings diminished to sickness and disease, did Lanaya really learn how lucky she was. Her father, formerly a traveling minstrel and her mother the same, decided to get a job in the capital city of Lindus. The best her mother could find was a terrible job at a tavern, and her father could only join the Army. He lasted 2 weeks before falling off a high tower to his death. Her mother died of disease a year later.

But at this point, Lanaya, now 15, decided enough was enough. You could say she had every job in the book for a woman her age. Petty thief, pick pocket, failed inventor. Try as she might, Lanaya figured out by the time she was of age that her only real source of progress was the military. Luckily women got good treatment in the military, but that didn't actually matter much, because she didn't last a year before someone noticed she had a particular series of talents she'd learned from her earliest years, talents that usually took years to teach, she already posessed. The ability to manipulate, to lie, to be invisible in plain sight and even to disappear all together, to think qiuckly on her feet and to know how to outplay her weaknesses with strengths. She was the dream spy. It was pure luck that a member of the Queen's elite, not a royal guard, caught Lanaya trying to steal a free meal. The woman, in her late 40's, offered Lanaya a job she'd never even heard of and had the young recruits full and unabridged attention the second she mentioned 'meal'. For the next 3 years, up until her 21st birthday, Lanaya learned what it meant to have friends, to have a purpose and the joys of a life dicatated by loyalty. She caught things early, which helped her greatly. She was easily the best 'covert soldier' in the Intelligence Branch of the Pritannian Navy. Really, they were just spies, but fell under the Navy for its budget, of which they needed little and produced results. Naval commanders were happy with this, it gave them status and bolstered their requests for funding, and power, by providing real results without spending much money.

Although she was officially just a lowly runt in the Navy, Lanaya was actually a slow brewing political operative blessed by the Queen to stop wars before they started. Be it spreading disinterest or misinformation, tracking down spies within Pritannia or outright assassinating foreign leaders, Lanaya considered herself good enough to do whatever she was tasked to do, within her reason. She was not a stand up soldier on the battlefield, but she was one of few who could start or stop wars with no one being killed. She rose through the ranks quickly, her quick grasp of otherwise monotonous tasks granting her a speedy and short learning curve. She could master languages and cultural specifics quicker than anyone in the Intelligence unit. Her taught basics of song and dance gave her legitimate covers to move about. She was less a soldier and more a silent, invisible option for the Queen to exert her power. By the age of 24, Lanaya had risen to the highest rank in her unit and actually took command of it. She worked directly for the Queen, becoming a semi-legitimate advisor to the aging queen and soon after, she was given actual land.

The prospect of a soldier-turned-noble startled some, but even at this point, the queen seemed adament Lanaya had earned the right. She owned a small bit of land near the coast, not far from the capital, but really only governed in place of a noblewoman long deceased with no heirs and no others who really wanted the land and the maybe thousand farmers and fishermen who called that land their home. Lanaya for her own right, was really an advisor and despite her early, early retirement, found herself traveling about more often than before, though on peaceful diplomatic missions, with a hint of espionage to keep herself sane. The boredom of telling fishermen there was nothing she could do about tides, water currents and weather harming their take was enlightening, and utterly boring. However, as the queen aged, the sharp minded Lanaya was no stranger to what would happen. The Princess was far to young and inexperienced to handle the country on her own, so either a regent would ascend or a coup would ensue, probably from one of the city women. Despite herself, Lanaya was determined to see the Princess in power, or the best ruler for Pritannia step foward in her place. No bloody coups if she could stop it. Of course, no one knew the queen had a son.
