How to set this Muse ablaze (O/Os)

Failing all else, we could make the Steward a Robot? Call it Jeeves, and it's a terrible cook.

MadPanda

...but it has the voice of Alan Rickman instead of Stephen Fry due to an error at the factory...   ;D

Point of clarification--hey, Muse, am I here because you owed some relation of mine a favor and this is how they called it in?

Canon.

TheGlyphstone

So are we good to launch, then? Emilio, Diane, Marguerite, Dmitri, and Jeeves, off on a whirlwind zany adventure that hopefully features exactly zero exploding engine rooms?

Plotting departure course and initial jump status now.  Initiating on Captain's mark...

Before you take off, there's another addition to the crew...
Dr Anna Oliveira
Dr Anna Oliveira (Doctors, 4 terms) Age 34
795885
Medical-4, Electronics-2, Admin-1, Blade-1
Medical instruments and 60,000cr
background
Anna grew up on one of Beliboil's more lawless ideas and learnt to defend herself with a blade at an early age. Determined to get off the island, she got herself accepted for medical training and proved herself a skilled doctor. Her work often brought her into contact with bureaucracy, learning how to get round the system on a vassal planet where important decisions were made parsecs away. After qualifying, she went to work at a clinic that specialised in powered prosthetics and cybernetics, becoming almost as good with electronic systems as she is with human ones.

With a relationship ending, she was thinking of leaving the clinic even before the funding for it disappeared in a bureaucratic snafu. Starting to feel that she was getting old, she decided it was time to do something new, and when she heard about a yacht at the planet's star port looking for a medic, she jumped at the chance to go see the universe, and maybe some planets that aren't almost all water.

TheGlyphstone

Medical 4? Damn. Considering how stats and skills are generated in this game, you're like the Albert Einstein of surgery.

Rook Seidhr

If you look at the skill tables for the Doctor career (in Supplement 4, "Citizens of the Imperium"), helpfully duplicated here, you will note that there are seven zillion chances for doctors to get Medical skill, so it's not that strange.

TheGlyphstone

Parlabane

And you need Medical-3 to be a doctor, so 4's not too crazily advanced. Plus, you get level 1 automatically for joining the doctors path.

Jeeves' specs, in Book 8 format:

JVZ114167    55202-A2-NP328-FD94    Cr394,150    212 kg
  Fuel=62.4 L    Duration=13 days    TL=15
  20/50 (mesh)
  2 light arms
2 eyes (light intensification, passive IR), 2 ears, olfactory (extra sensitivity), taste, touch (extra sensitivity)
brain interface, power interface, radio (regional range), zero-G maneuver, 2 LT grav modules
  emotion simulation, medical-2, ship’s boat-2, steward-2, valet-2, grav vehicle-1, rescue-1

Note that the grav modules are not sufficient to support his mass in 1G gravity—they just make him as light on his feet as a gentleman's personal gentleman is supposed to be.

EDIT: for those who don't have Book 8 and can't read those codes up there, Jeeves is a "contoured" robot, meaning that some effort has been made to give him the shape of a human being, but no one could mistake him for one except in a very dark alley. Anyone is welcome to look for a picture.

TheGlyphstone

He should have a micro laser and/or cryo beam in one finger, to adjust the temperature of the master's drink to precisely the correct fraction of a degree.

In fact, it'd be hilarious if his culinary ineptness was due to him actually being some sort of decommissioned and reprogrammed warbot.

I've been taking a look at the map, and am suddenly desperate to visit the world called Spung! just to discover how it got that name.

Rook Seidhr

OOC it's named Spung! because it's the only agricultural world within jump-3 of Anson's World, and if you don't get that joke then you're probably better off for it.

EDIT: I have no idea yet what the IC reason is, any more than I know why Anson's World is named what it is IC.

TheGlyphstone

I'm surprised at the lack of 'negative' sounding names - there had to have been at least a few colony expeditions or survey crews that ended up in far worse conditions than they expected. Tartarus, Hellhole, Jackson's Folly, Sobohrdagan, Nusquam Fundimentibus, etc.

"Ugly" and "Miserable" and "Gunkworld" and "Chumbucket" aren't negative enough for you?

TheGlyphstone

Okay, I missed those. But no, not negative enough.

What I want to know is who Tash is. They're mighty popular among colonists and/or surveyors.

Nah, Leader Tash just renames all the worlds that voluntarily join his enlightened and prosperous interstellar polity. (See where it says "Worlds of Leader Tash" on the map?)
