Red was never the sort to follow the rules. He was natural rebel without a cause and loathed the idea of being tied down by anything or anyone. He was the sort to be found drinking and surrounding himself with beautiful women rather than living up to any responsibility his parents tried to enforce. Whatever Red wanted, he made sure he got. Whatever Red did, he would do to excess.

The only person he would stop to listen to was his grandmother. The elderly woman was the only one Red offered his respect to - she was the powerful matriarch of the family, continued to work and push herself despite her advancing years, and she never allowed anyone tot talk down to her. In many ways Red was much closer to her than his parents.

It was the only reason why Red had agreed to go on the errand to the forest in the first place. His grandmother had grown ill, and it had fallen to him to venture into the dense woodland to collect medicinal herbs to aid in her recovery. He muttered complaints as he trudged through the undergrowth, but he persisted on and on until he had finished collecting all the ingredients he needed.

The moon hung high overhead by the time he was making his way back. The trees were dense, the sky dark, and the sound of wind through the branches sounded like ominous whispers. Red had never gone so deep into the forest before. Hours ticked by and he grew exhausted - much as he was loathe to accept it, he was hopelessly lost.

The snapping of twigs echoed menacingly, along with the sound of heavy footfalls drawing ever closer. What emerged from the undergrowth was somewhere between a wolf and a man; too tall, too broad for a human, hands slightly clawed and teeth slightly sharp, but the figure had a human's face - strong, fierce, hypnotizing. "You are lost. I will show you the way."
Refusal didn't seem to be an option, and so Red followed the stranger back through the forest until the trees broke and he saw the sky again. Upon glancing back to thank his savior however, there was no one to be seen...

Days and weeks passed. His grandmother recovered but still Red couldn't shake the memory of the large figure in the woods. The pretty women of the city no longer excited him. Alcohol seemed shallow. One night, he decided that his patience was at an end; he had to see the man again. Reason didn't factor into his impulsive desire as he made his way back into the forest. No one had ever captivated the elusive Red before... Why couldn't he shake the memory? Why did he want to see the man again?
