Homecoming

Adam bobbed his head to the music as he dried his hair with the towel. He had just taken a shower his nerves on edge for some reason he needed to relax. He was wearing a t-shirt and sweets. He tried working out and it didn't work the shower barley help. What was making him so tense? He walked past the front door to the living room and hit the remote to the stereo stopping the music. He switched to the TV "And what pray tell is on." He usually didn't watch allot of TV but a good game and a beer sounded good right about now.

Rebecca had stopped a few millimeters from the door wondering if she should go in or knock. It had been three years since she last saw her brother. Where she stayed there was no phone or internet and she guessed her parents threw away her letters she sent. Lifting up her hand she gently knocked on the door three times and the picked up one of the heavy suitcases she had. How was she going to bring them inside? She looked so different now but she still looked somewhat like him.

Adam was standing bent eyeing the food in the fridge when he heard a knock at the door. He stood and close the fridge with a grunt."Coming." he called out and trudged over. He back tensed as he reached for the door. Who could it be and why was he so tense about it?

He opened the door and looked at the girl standing on the other side suit cases in tow. He eyed her for a second and then he realised who it was. She had changed but her would always know his sister even if he didn't want to. His eyes widened and his mouth opened and close before spoke. "Rebbecca?" shock easily heard from his tone.

Rebecca didn't even know if it was his house or not but seconds after he opened the door she recognized him. Maybe it was a bad idea coming back without notice but she had no idea what his phone number was. She nodded softly looking at him and gently smiling. "I'm back." She whispered hoping he would allow her to stay with him and help her with her bags. If he didn't let her stay she would be out on the streets. Something in the air told her that it was different between them now.

"What....who do you...?" he struggled for the words. He was lost here in front of him was his twin sister. And with bags at that."What?" he glared out he was in no mood to be nice. This explains the tenseness. He gripped the Handel to his door and waited for her to speak.

"I finally was able to find my way back. After working for three years and trying to find your address. I sent you letters you didn't get them?" She loosened the grip on her suitcase wondering if he would allow her to come in or not.

"What...you wrote, bull shit." he fidgeted and looked her over."Why now?" he was angry but part of him wanted to wrap his arms around his sister. He was confussed and didn't understand why she was here. Let alone what she wanted with him.

She winced when he said those words and sighed. Somehow she knew this was going to happen. A fight between them. Before she left they never fought. "I did write a lot. I guess mom threw them out. I wanted to come back and see my brother again." She whispered looking into his eyes again and wanting the same thing...a hug.

"And why would mom do that?" he looked her over seeing her eyes were tired and near tears he sighed. Rubbing his temple he looked back at her.

"Mom and dad forced me to leave you." She whispered not knowing if he would believe her but she had to try. Maybe he would not let her in she started accepting that.

He sighed again and thought back to when she left. To the fights and what was said to him. " I just...." He glared at her and hit the door frame. "Bull shit you could have contacted me in some other way." He was angery more so then he thought. It hurt so much when she left he put up walls and ignore the pain. With her return it suddenly came rushing back.

"I tried ok? I didn't have money to come back to see you. No internet or phone." Rebecca jumped when she heard the slam of the door. Would he hurt her on purpose? She took a step backward in case something did happen and he did come after her. At least she had a running start.

Adam groaned and opened his eyes. Seeing her scared and ready to run he easied up and moaned." I'm not going to hurt you. That's your job remember."

"Adam please don't do this." She whispered stopping where she was but kept her distance. Would he get mad enough to hurt her even though he said he wouldn't?

"Do what? Be hurt or hurt you? Did you expect me to welcome you back." he gripped his jaw tight and looked her in the eyes trying to hide his pain. "What is it your looking for really?"

"I was hoping you could let me in. I don't expect anything more then that." She gripped her suitcase again and looked at him. "I am sorry."

Adam took a deep breath and turned leaving the door open and walking into the house"Get in then your letting the cool air out." he walked into the living room.

It would be nice to get some help. She went back and forth three times bringing in her suitcases and putting them neatly by the door. It was as if she knew he was going to kick her out.

he watched as she brought in a huge mound of crap. By the time she was done Adam stood against the wall that went into the livingroom A beer in hand. "And you have that much shit with you why?" he eyed the bags and her

She did not like the fact of the beer. The person who she stayed with when they had beers they got abusive. "I'm planning on staying and never leaving." She said dropping the last bag and sighing.

Adam choked on his beer and slapped his chest,"You what....? Really now, and what pray tell gave you that idea?" he looked at her then to her bags. He fought the urge to scream to yell to walk off and to just hug her. He wanted to seem calm and unattached.

"Well I was coming back for good but now i'm not so sure. I can't leave if you want." She motioned to the bags and then the door. She could easily take them out again and leave this place.

Adam eyed her and luaghed, "You expect that you can just walk in here pick a room?" he was harsh but it hurt to see her and have her standing there thinking she could just come back after leaving him hanging.

"Well I was hoping you would give me a room but I guess i'm not welcome here anymore." She turned around and started lifting up her heavy suitcase.

Adam sighed and grabbed her arm, "Wait...." he took a deep breath.  " Sit, we need to talk." He walked to the couch and flopped down in it and waited for her to join him. It was her choice to come and talk if she really wanted to work it out explain where she was and why she was gone.

Rebecca winced when he grabbed her arm and stopped her. Sighing she turned around and then headed toward the couch and sat beside him. Beside him yes but a few inches form him. "Alright."

Adam took another sip from his beer and sighed." So how does this start. Hey sis what you been up to in the past 3 years you have been gone? Or how is the weather where you been?" he didn't look at her and leaned forward his elbows on his knees.

She winced at the beer and leaned away from it. It seemed as though he did not want her here but did not want her to go anywhere. Sighing she took a deep breath. "Just work. What have you been up to?"

He sighed and leaned back putting the beer down. "School, work, sleep, school, work, sleep." he laughed and scratched his head. He breathed in deeply and closed his eyes.

"That's all? Three years of being away? No girlfriend?" She asked leaning back in the couch and looking at him.

Adam laughed "Yeah a couple, been busy and the last one kinda stung a bit so I'm just consternating on what I need to get down now." He looked at his sister." But you would know that if you were here or just tried to call or something." he spoke softly he was trying to be nice but he was angry and hurt and that was making it hard.

"I didn't have a phone and didn't know if you moved or anything." She looked away almost feeling his pain. That's the thing about twins they can sometimes feel each others pain. "So am I allowed to stay or no?"

He looked at her and took a very deep breath letting it out, "I guess, but the couch will have to do I haven't had the time or the money to get a bed for the second bedroom." he said not knowing if he could Handel having her here. But he knew she probally had no where else to go. Or she wouldn't have had so much in tow. He popped his neck and fingers a nervous habit he always had "You could have used a pay phone, or someones phone. I'm listed and hell it's not that hard to get that info off the net." he looked at her what was she wanting form him? Why was she here?

"No pay phones where I lived. Small town. Thank you Adam." She sighed and hesitantly put a hand on his knee. Yes she wanted a hug but did not ask for one knowing he would not want to give her one. "The couch will do just fine." Slowly she got up and walked over to her suitcases to bring them near the couch but out of the way. They were so heavy.

He sighed and stood walking over moving the bags for her with ease and looked at her" How small does a town have to be to not have one damn pay phone? I mean really?"he set the last bag with the rest so she could get to them but that they were out of the way.

She wasn't expecting him to help her but smiled when he did. "Please cut me some slack how am I supposed to know?" She sat back on the couch feeling very tired after her trip.

He walked to the kitchen and poored his beer out and tossed the can. He didn't want or need to drink now. And grabbed a bottle water form the fridge instead."You want a drink?" he ask still distant and Stern.

"Water please I am very thirsty. Oh and I have some money for rent if you need it." She could tell he was being distant and maybe one day that will change. For now she would have to deal with this.

He looked up from the fridge a laughed"Plan on staying that long?" he asked as he walked over and handed her the water.

She took the bottle and drank from it feeling very dehydrated. "That's if you will let me." She spoke quietly.
