The Collapse

On Black Friday, a smallpox pandemic (transmitted by a virus planted onto banknotes), sweeps through cities across the U.S. causing the United States Government to collapse in five days; basic services fail and without access to food or water, the country quickly descends into chaos.[9] The player is part of the Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), or "The Division" for short—a classified stay-behind force of self-supported tactical agents. Leading seemingly ordinary lives, SHD agents are trained to operate independently of command when all else fails. This group is established to combat the threat brought about by the outbreak and are given direct authority by the President of the United States to do whatever it takes to prevent the fall of society, piece the city back together and "save what remains". The player will encounter remnants of the New York City Police, Fire, and Emergency Responders and the New York National Guard now known as the JTF (Joint Task Force) who will help the player throughout the game. Enemies include the Rikers (Formerly prisoners of Rikers Island), bandits known as Rioters, The Cleaners who are primarily former New York City Sanitation Workers hellbent on purging the disease, and The Last Man Battalion, a secretive rogue military unit who are trying to restore order in more lethal manners. Throughout the game, the agents will find themselves caught in a worldwide conspiracy and will be forced to combat both the threats of the virus as well as those who unleashed it.

-from the Division Wiki

The faithful say God created the world in six days but it appears men have taken only five to destroy it. The unthinkable has happened with Black Friday gifting mankind with a whole new world. Some still strive to remain civilised and maintain order but most have given into their primitive, base instinct without the veneer of society to maintain. The Dollar Bug has made everyone equals both in status and loss, but where does one go from here. How long can the JTF and the Division hold up against the growing chaos of the collapse of society.

This is a post apocalypse, or perhaps better termed mid apocalypse, RP inspired by the video game called The Division, though knowledge of the game is not needed. I've come to love the setting and backstory of the game and wanted to see if others would be interested in a small group roleplay featuring it. I was thinking of about three to six players with a good ratio of male and female characters.

The actual story wouldn't necessarily have to involve the Division in it, I was thinking mostly average citizens with perhaps some military/JTF personnel or a Division agent, though even that not sure of. The one thing I did want to capture was the ultra realism of the setting with characters having to deal with survival and life after the collapse. Every decision has consequences so even the adult parts of the RP may end up having to deal with pregnancy, as an example. I was seeing it revolve around the interpersonal relationships among the group, as open as we want it, so it would not delve into Non con or the like. I was thinking it be more appropriate for the light section though I'm not opposed to D/s section if most would prefer.

I would be writing a character and doing light GMing to direct a story but was looking at it being very collaborative in nature so everyone would help guide it. Mainly want to get others thoughts and gauge interest in the idea right now.

Factions:

Other than the general rioters, some who have banded into gangs, there are three four important factions in the city as it collapses.

The Rikers are escaped convicts from Rikers Island. They come from various gangs but they decided to unite under LaRae Barrett for the sake of the "power by numbers" motto. Unlike the petty thug Rioters who are simply taking advantage of the anarchy, the Rikers are hardened criminals who revel in it, even threatening to plunge the city into the stone age if they can't claim New York for themselves.

The Cleaners are former New York City sanitation workers (Garbage men, janitors, custodians, etc.) who lost everything during the outbreak. Formed by Joe Ferro, they are convinced that the only way to save the city from the virus is to burn everything down, including the people still living in it

The Last Man Battalion, better known as the LMB, is a private military company led by Charles Bliss. The LMB was hired by prestigious Wall Street companies to protect assets during the outbreak, but were abandoned when the crisis worsened. Now they aim to retake New York and establish a new world order by force. Compared to the other factions, they employ far more specialists with more advanced gear, and their positions are more heavily fortified.

The Joint Task Force (JTF) is a coalition of police officers, firefighters, medical staff, army national guardsmen, and remnant government agencies led by Roy Benitez that was formed after the events of Black Friday to take back New York City. Despite being charged with the protection of the city, they were forced to abandon the Dark Zone, and have since been beaten back to a handful of areas.

The Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), referred to as "The Division", is a classified unit of highly trained, self-supported tactical agents appearing in Tom Clancy's The Division. The main objective of The Division is to ensure the continuity of government in the case of a catastrophic emergency. There is a possibility their jurisdiction is worldwide as they are brought in when society falls. Released in waves, Division agents are activated when all other forms of public protection have failed.

The Concept

The city has fallen but not everyone is willing to accept this fact.  The JTF (Joint Task Force) has set up centers all over the city to help citizens stuck in the city because of the National Guard enforced quarantine of the city.    But are those soldiers even there with no government to command them and most of the United States dead or dying?  Your characters have come to a JTF shelter in lower Manhattan for one reason or another, trying to find some normality in the chaos of the new world or perhaps to find a loved one.

As you are there, the shelter is overrun by members of the Rikers attack the place hoping to take some entertainment for the night and killing the rest.  It is fight or flight time because standing by and doing nothing means death, or worse.  The characters of the RP would be the ones that fight or run together to fight another day.  We would be starting after the incident as the survivors decide what they are going to do.  Do they try and find a place to hole up and live off what they can scrounge up.  Or do they make time for one of the bridges that was blockaded to see if the Guard is still there or if they can make it across.  Rumors abound that the tunnels and bridges in upper Manhattan are open, if you can get past the factions watching them.

I've loved the game and the story so far, still interested in finding out more about the conspiracy behind it, hoping the book I picked up tells me more.  Though doesn't seem to be much interest so will see if the weekend garners some more people.

Diesel Heart

Ironically, I've been putting together a game that had this exact same premise.  Although, certain elements were different.  I'll place my interest here.

Kokaine

Tentatively interested. I have no knowledge of the game other than what was posted in the OP.

My O/Os

Knowledge of the Division isn't really required.  Basically the US has collapsed after a deliberate terrorist attack of the Smallpox virus, general chaos ensues.  It would mainly be about the small group finding their way through a chaotic Manhattan and either making a base to call home or getting out of town to find somewhere else to hole up in.  I was looking at it being fairly realistic in how things play out, which is kind of the only influence of the game other than the setting.

Well, looks likes we have enough interested parties for a good mix. When I get home I'll work on getting a general character sheet up and the basic premise I have in mind for the beginning of the RP.

Kakihara

Ok, updated it with the initial concept of the RP, how I was thinking of starting things off and why the some of the group is together, though some may have already been together before this.  I'm going to try and get up a character sheet by tonight.

I'm loving on this concept, please do count me interested if there's still room.

Yes, there's still room as just pulled this out of the interest check.  And as I said in my initial post, knowledge of the world isn't necessary.  There's a Wiki if anyone is curious but there is going to be plenty of room for everyone who wants to add in original concepts. Plus I'll try to explain anything I might throw in from the game or the book I have on it in OCC or in the post as it happens.

Ok, I've gotten a character sheet up and will would on getting mine up as an example tomorrow.  i am favoring quality over quantity so post will be more about putting in some good writing and may not be as quick posting as other games.  There certainly will be some conflict with external groups and forces but just as much it will be about the group dealing with each other and getting along while surviving in this would go crazy.  Please feel free to post here or PM me with any questions.
