Skippable stuff

Summer is drawing close on the northern hemisphere. The sun is shining brightly, nights are as short as can be, and you might have started to get sunburned. Perhaps you’ve planned a vacation? Or perhaps spending time at home with friends and family is all the vacation you seek.

I am writing this as an interest check for a simple, smutty slice of life game. I’m not writing this on the presumption of creating anything grand, to be fair, last time I tried to make a game that relied on continuous GM involvement at all times, it ended quite disasterly, to which I hardly wish to see a repeat of. Either way, I’ll be moving on now.

Introducing the lovely Panmay Island

A small branch island in the Okinawa prefecture of Japan, the island is located idyllically in what can only be described as a tropical paradise. The summers are burning warm, perfect for a nap under a palm-tree or a swim in the crystal blue seas surrounding the lovely island, far away from the common pollution of the “normal” world. Only accessible by boat, the islands host no more than a grand resort and a small village half an hour by foot away.

Along with the lovely tropical climate and lovely nature the island holds, the stay is accompanied by a lovely and service-set staff, largely so built up of seasonal workers in high-school age, the lucrative job being an excellent way to get a free vacation, heck, even a paid one, for some hours of labor a day.

What thoughs/plans I have for the game

As may have been guessed, it’s meant to be a smut-game, no particular bullet to doge there. The game would more or less just feature normal day-to-day interactions between visitors, employees and (possibly) locals. I’m not sure how set for smut it should be, if any employee there should be prepared to “service” any visitors, or if it should be left to time’s control, personally, I’m leaning more to the prior just to dodge a very slow start.

A lot has yet to be set in stone and all feedback will of course go to weigh these choices. I’m locked between having it be both employees and visitors, or only employees, perhaps during the pre-opening phase, staying true to the source material I’m taking heavy inspiration from, the visual novel by the name of Koisuru Natsu No Last Resort (A relatively nice VN I might add, nothing grand, but it has its moments, as well as some lovely pieces of art), which I think might work better for the long run.

Again though, this might’ve just become a mess, but, I saw no reason not to give it a go. If you so happen to be interested, add any feedback, state your opinion on matters referred, all feedback is good feedback.

I can definitely go fro something simple and easy. I think having the staff on hand to "service" guests would be a good play on it. Like the place advertises itself as the ultimate health and relaxation spa, and "sexual therapy" is just another service available to guests to help them unwind if they desire it.

To be fair, I've been more focused with other aspects of the game, there is a certain limit to how far I'm going to bother for geographical accuracy, so to best answer your question, the latter option is likely what I'd go with, or something along those lines, though, again, it's not on the top of my priority-list to work out how to best please the world's cartographers.

To me the term "Slice of life" is a generic term referring to a story that covers the sort of every-day things that people get up to, rather than them being special people who have special adventures. Just ordinary folk coping with ordinary drama - and lets face it, there's enough of that around!

You're more or less on point, slice of life typically refers to everyday life, yes. However, it's not ultra-specific about which aspects of life it refers to, it primarily refers to a story catering around a setting that doesn't have anything directly special about it, nor any distinct degree of progression, that there is no end station so to say.

Yes, partially for the sake of having a standard and partially because I'm personally not all too big on actors etcetera.

There's no reason to look into the source material, it's nothing spectacular, I just liked the setting :P

The wiki is an open resource area for saving data. Wikipedia is probably the most famous example. Elluiki is Elliquiy's wiki. Anything placed in the wiki is automatically public domain and thus can be seen, used and edited by anyone, however it is generally considered good practice not to edit something posted by someone else...

Fair point :P Got some sleep, feeling a fair bit better, still gonna take it slow out the day at least though. And it's most of Norway actually, I live pretty far south in our long-stretched country, and the nights are still just gray, it never gets straight-up dark ^^

I don't have a set moment yet, this was just a post to gauge interest, since it's there, I'll get around to writing the whole thing. Next week is my last week at work before I'm off for my vacation though, so I'll have a fair bit to do prepping since I'm the only one in my role at my workplace, and I'd rather not get called twice a day being asked for this or that, ideally,things will just work, so I'll likely be spending some time on prepping for the summer during my afternoons, but I'm hoping to get it up sometime early next week.

Well, it had said in the original post that it could be visitors. I would imagine that if there were visitors, then they wouldn't be all Japanese... Even with employees, I think it sounds like a place foreigners would be part of, but I agree. Let us wait for GM to say something on the subject.

Sorry communication has been a wee bit lackluster from my part, i've been busy helping a friend of mine moving, and it's my last week before my vacation starts, so I have a lot to do at work, which in turn becomes overtime. I'll try to answer as many questions as possible, if I missed any, do tell.

Images will be locked to artwork. I'm not going to say that it's completely locked to eastern art, but, I'll put a big ehhhhh on western art, if it fits, it passes, if it doesn't, well, I'll have to turn it down. Same goes for eastern art of course, but, my rules are a bit more lax as the art is more standardized.

I have yet to have found time to decide if characters are locked to employees or if it's both visitors and employees. I am leaning more towards the latter and I have a suitable explanation as to why customers would be locked out of the picture, nipping a bit more from the canon I'm taking inspiration from. If not, well, it won't be limited, I'd love some feedback though. In the end, I'll make the call, but it'd be nice to know what people think. I hate having to mention this, but I suppose I have no choice, if you're indifferent about it, stating so doesn't help me out much. I'm interested in the "Yes or no" responses, not the "Both please" responses.

As far as nationalities goes... I wouldn't lock the doors for a foreigner or two, but, I'd rather have as much of the cast as possible be native Japanese. The Okinakawa region isn't a typical hotspot for tourists since it isn't as big of a cultural icon as some of Japan's mainland cities, nor does it have a lot of significant tourist attractions except for its sub-tropical weather, it mostly attracts SEA-tourists, rarely western ones, with Japan being one of the most expensive countries in the world to both travel to and vacate in, it's not a very high rated tourist hotspot for non-SEAs.

When it comes to image reservations, that's fine, when you've posted up your image, consider it reserved. As far as roles goes, feel free to state your current ideas regarding the topic, what you'd like to do, and possibly why you're interested in the role, but don't consider it a safe reservation, I might swap it out for someone I consider more befitting the role.

It's fine my love, I take ages to get a group game up and running, often 2 to 3 weeks before I'm satisfied things are organised enough to start the first IC thread.

I've been searching online for images from the VN and found loads of porn images but none of the backgrounds. These would be great for scene settings - has anyone a link to a collection of them? Or something very similar that would also work?

Given the employees only possibility then I guess my lady will be some kind of manager or maybe an accountant or IT support type. She'll be in her mid 20s.

EDIT: The h-game my character comes from is called Tropical kiss. There might be some useful images from that as it seems to be a broadly similar thing, though more harem oriented.

Uh yeah, I think my character is rather western looking despite being Japanese art. I was thinking of making her an expat. Possibly a tax exile or maybe she went there on a TEFL programme and never went home.

She looks fine to me. Her face is 100% anime style and while her outfit is a bier-keller fraulein style thing I hardly think that matters. Also blondes in anime are very common. If its an issue there are gazillions of waitress type anime girls out there you could use, it might even be the second most common type of image after schoolgirls (well, third most common after schoolgirls and naked girls I suppose...).

Nah. I chose that picture out of hundreds that came up on a Google search. I like how she looks. I think the issue is that when I was a kid we drew Japanese characters with little slits for eyes \./ like that. To see them drawn with big round eyes O.O looks wrong to me.

See, that's my view on the matter as well. It becomes a very... Unpleasant dynamic so to speak. Visitor-only games in these rough outlines pop up every so often, though I rarely see ones with both roles being open meshing well, and I'm not too interested in doing visitors only either. And yeah, that's definitely true, I heard a thing or two from a dancer at the Color Magic when I went to Kiel earlier this year, things do apparently get pretty heated sometimes to put it that way.

I'll put some more thought to it, but I'm still very much so on that side of the spectrum, and haven't heard much against it.

Sorry for the long delay before my response, I've been stupid busy the last couple days, things should cool back down after tomorrow however.

Again, don't worry about the canon, I'm just taking ideas from it, I'm not directly adapting it. However, I'm thinking somewhere in the middle ground. In the VN, the game is displayed to have about 12-14 huts (see the images on the header) and a separate more hotel-like building they never disclosed the size of to a scalable degree, however, I'd assume there would be about 15-20 rooms there as well, going by the scarce amount of images I can find without booting up the VN myself and finding a frame where the building is in view, so it'd be a sizable resort, for certain.

I'll elaborate a bit on the canon to figure out a couple holes that more or less have to be explained, the resort has, in the canon, yet to open, with the manager working on the paperwork, whilst using the workers hired for the summer as her guinea pigs to find out what has to be further worked on with upcoming guests in mind. The appointed staff at that given point was limited to the manager herself, the head chef, and around six summer-hands, however, this part, we can scale as we see fit pending on the interest, even if the resort isn't open yet for residing, the restaurant and any bars on the premise could still be open for locals etcetera to keep the losses down a tiny bit. Without elaborating too much on the matter, positions that'd be available (More by request of course, if there is a position you want, I'll evaluate on the spot) would be the following

- Manager (Would be played by yours truly for GMing purposes)
- Economist
- Chief of staff
- Head chef
- Bartender(s)
- summer hands
