Checking interest for a game that would revolve around a newly formed Bounty Hunter group.  I would like the aspects of the Bounty Hunter business to be up to the characters with their decisions shaping opportunities and problems they will face.  Such choices might be if they are part of the Bounty Hunter guild, do they take contracts from the Empire, etc.

Rule wise I’d like to use the Star Wars Narrative dice system.  The group will start with both a business and a starship for their travels.  Ideally I’d like the game to have an over arching plot focusing on the morality of hunting, punctuated with the group selecting bounties.  If I can figure out a rule setup I would also like the group to be able to send other bounty hunters in their business {if any} to handle smaller threats and generate income.

Force Users would be allowed, but obviously there is the issue of a force user being hunted by the Empire.

Anyway, if there is enough interest we can proceed toward the actual construction and hammering out details.  Look forward to hearing from people.

I'm somewhat interested. Is this Edge Of Empire or Age Of Rebellion?  Or a mix?

Pumpkin Seeds

Edge of the Empire would be the most appropriate, though I would be open to hear a character from the Age of Rebellion careers.

Woot.  If there's three than I can start working on more details.

Belisuavious

Tentatively interested, depending on my own schedule

Aethyrium

I would be interested in seeing more details about this as well.

Oh sure, why not? I can swing more games these days.

Alright so we have a nice mix of tentative and strong interest.  I would like to say for anyone still thinking or visiting that I am certainly open to more players.

At this point I would open the discussion on what sort of Bounty Hunter business people are interested in running here.  There only needs to be one Bounty Hunter to hold the license.  Even if your characters are not liking the taste of the Empire, the license that a Bounty Hunter holds is still required unless you just really want some trouble anytime you are in Imperial territory hunting a target.

I also want this to be more than simply shoot’em up and drag’em back.  There will certainly be moments of fighting and of taking down the target with brutal force.  But finding the target will require chasing, investigation, social and intellectual skills.  Obviously the characters are the final arbitrators in how they pursue a target and which bounties are taken.

When a character is submitted I will also require two things.  The first is a NPC for the business.  This could be a bounty hunter apprentice, the receptionist, the person in charge of sweeping the floor or whatever.  Someone that is part of the business.  I will also require a group the character is associate with outside the business.  Whether this be a gang on some core world planet, a smuggler group, a political party or what have you this will serve as a contact.  In this game there will be contacts that the players can cultivate or destroy with their actions.

Pumpkin Seeds

Reference for Timeline would be Dawn of the Rebellion era and starting level characters please.

Brainstorming with Pumpkin we put together a rather interesting idea.

Tentatively naming this guy Randar Tvarn.  He is from a good family on Ryloth, but was low in birth order.  If he couldn't get a military position he'd probably wind up collared and sold.

Randar didn't like this a bit.  He was ambitious and lusty.  He looked at the harems his older brothers were collecting and wanted that for himself—not just the adoring girls but the power and respect they represented.

Ambition became motivation.  Randar trained hard under the family's martial arts master—Tehkla Falar.  He picked up the fundamentals of blaster and blade, but excelled beyond all expectation in unarmed combat.  He soon surpassed all but the master himself, all but one.  Tomar, Randar's elder brother, was his fighting equal.  Their rivalry was usually friendly, though it would occasionally spike bitter and vicious.  Both understood in their blood and bone that they their rivalry was pushing them farther and faster than anything else every could.

As the boys came of age, growing ever stronger, Tehkla came to realize something.  Their prowess and awareness were more than mundane.  The boys were both sensitive to the Force, and tapping into it through his training.  He did not reveal this to them. Rather, he spent many months in quite and fearful contemplation of the consequences he and the family he served would face if these young men were not turned over to the Empire.

Randar has yet to realize why the Imperials descended upon his home.

Navana Loi, a teen slave girl who was to become Tomar's third concubine when she came of age in a few weeks time, had caught Randar's fancy with an unhealthy blend of genuine affection and brotherly rivalry.   Randar was 21 one now.  Even as he secretly wooed the young beauty, Randar was planning how he might challenge Tomar for her before he could claim her maidenhood, and in the process claim a higher position in the family.

Randar and Navana were out in the desert, kissing and watching the stars together when they realized that some of the descending ships were heading for Randar's home.  They crept back to get a look and found his family's compound locked down with storm troopers guarding the entrances.  Tomar was being lead into a lambda shuttle by an inquisitor!

The next few minutes were thrilling and terrifying beyond all reason, but Randar and his concubine managed to steal a hyperspace capable fighter and flee for the outer rim.

Name: Icarus Hawke
Species: Human
Obligation: Blackmail (deserter from Imperial forces, guy knows and is demanding money)
Career: Hired Gun, Mercenary Soldier specialization

Icarus Hawke was born on the Outer Rim planet of Endisssh, the son of a miner and the local doctor. Endisssh was colonized for the simple reason that there were large mineral deposits. While it was originally a freeholding planet, problems with pirates and difficulties scheduling supply shipments led to a lot of meetings which culminated in, essentially, selling the planet to a Corporate Sector conglomerate. The metals mined in Endisssh wound up in a whole slew of ships, transports, buildings and other sorts of products. Things should have been better for the people of Endisssh but it turns out that when the planet was purchased, everything was purchased but the people. The people wound up indebted to the Corporate Sector for the homes they had lived in for years, the food shipments they needed to live and the products they bought. Endisssh had been turned into a Company Planet. While there were laws in place to prevent this sort of thing, those were generally only enforced closer to the Core. Out on the Rim, there were no protections for the miners who saw costs rise and wages fall steadily.
The Clone Wars broke out when Icarus was 9 years old, and he suddenly found himself part of the Separatist Alliance, and his family patriotically mining metals to help defend their freedoms. The irony was not lost on many of the people on Endisssh, and soon a resistance movement was thriving on the planet. By the end of the war, Icarus had learned how to scout and shoot, and Icarus was fiercely supportive of the newly formed First Galactic Empire. His fervor was dimmed, but not diminished, when he began to see that conditions on Endisssh were not improving.
Getting off planet by the time he was 19 was difficult, but he managed to scrape together just enough credits to bribe his way on to a supply ship, and from there made his way to an enlistment center. Signing on to join the military which had liberated his planet, believing that while there was some problems with the Empire, it was ultimately a good thing. His first deployment disabused him of that notion, as he found himself fighting against a resistance movement very similar to his own experience during the Clone War. Writing it off as a one-off event, it happened again, and again, until he finally snapped. Icarus deserted the Imperial Army, with the help of a supply officer named Truk Hascig, to whom he is still paying hush money five years later.
Out of a job and qualified only to fight and kill, Icarus Hawke found work as a soldier for hire, working with the Silver Sabers, a mercenary company that specialized in anti-pirate work in places that the Imperial War Machine had marked as a low priority. It was the sort of work Icarus enjoyed, crushing vicious predators preying on the helpless. It also made him a decent amount of money, which he needed to make payments to avoid being marked as a deserter.
The Silver Sabers were disbanded following a massacre off the Triparadesus Asteroid Field, in which multiple pirate gangs merged together to take on the mercenaries. In a matter of hours, the mercenaries were dead or scattered, and Icarus needed to find work before Truk blew the whistle on him. Icarus Hawke and a friend of his who had survived the Triparadesus Massacre made their way to where they had heard bounty hunter groups were hiring. His friend, a Twi’Lek named Asha, had some contacts that landed them a job, himself once again as a hired gun, and Asha as an armourer.

Beginning: The High And Mighty
Reason For Adventure: Wrong Place, Wrong Time
Obligation: Oath (Haunted By A Force Ghost)
Career: Colonist, Politico Specialization

Nefarious is the son of a Zabrak general and his family is quite revered  on their homeworld. Nefarious's great uncle is perhaps the family's most interesting member. While Nefarious's grandfather lived on Iridonia his entire life, his brother moved to Dathomir in his early twenties.  It was during Nefarious's  Res Selenoren that his Great Uncle first appeared to him. His great uncle's ghost  has appeared spoardically to him since then though he has ignored it. It was only after he revealed these visions to his parents, that he was encourageed by his parents to explore the universe. His family believes that this vision is an omen that  their ancestors have some great task for him and that he can not complete it on Iridonia. Nefarious believes he is being called to Dathomir and he's traveling along the outer rim to get there.  While he has the finances to make it there, he feels that he is not ready to answer the call so he's taken a few jobs on the outer rim to prepare him for his journey.

Looking good so far.  Have a couple of things to add, but will probably get us a proper board soon to do so.

Any input if people want non-con or not?

What are we thinking about in terms of a ship? I love the ILH-KK Citadel-Class Light Freighter. It has far more offensive capabilities than any of the YT Ships and It's less suspicious since YT ships are so frequently used by smugglers.

Standard rules are the ship cannot cost more than 120,000 and the Citadel costs 200,000.

There are creative ways around that cap. We could buy a used ship as opposed to a new one, We could steal a ship or we could just go into debt with The Hutts or Black Sun. There's plenty of people who will give us a loan in the outer rim.

Actually, if we're bounty hunters, We could have just taken the ship in exchange for not turning one of our bounties into The Hutts.

That just seems to be trying to skate around a rule before asking the GM.

Non-con isn't something I'm personally into but I'm not against it in the game.

As for the ship, I agree that it's for the gm to decide what we get, I know in games I've played and run that it's dependant on both what the group wants and what the gm feels appropriate for a group of low level bounty hunters.

Tentative Interest, Pumpkin How do you intend to handle the unique dice of this system, Cause E's dice roll  likely wont be up to the task especially since a lot of the dice have an uneven number of symbols and or blank  spots?

It is trying to get a ship more than 50% more expensive than base rules allow before asking the GM.

There is a guide in the front of the book for standard dice to unique dice conversions.

I would perfer to work within the rules in terms of the initial ship.  If you want these ideas presented once the game starts then that would be awesome and I will gladly accommodate with some adventures.  As it is the group is starting with both a business and a ship, so is starting with two starting resources.  That seems quite fair.

If you wish to take on more obligation to gain additional credits or expand the business, that is certainly within your ability and rule set to do so.

The best way I have seen to use the dice is simply to use the chart and standard dice.

Name: Jonathan Mutaze
Species: Human
Obligation: Oath (Cannot kill for money, despite everyone wanting him too)
Career: Bounty Hunter, Assassin

Jonathan's story is a simple one. Came from nothing, became a runner for a crime family. One day, he was captured by a rival family. Somehow, he overpowered his captors and managed to escape, leaving a bloody trail behind him. Since then, he's seemed untouchable, taking out targets with an ease that bordered on having the cheat codes to the universe. He earned fame and fortune, yet, seemed to want for nothing. Sure, he enjoyed a good drink now and again, but he never seemed to actually spend his credits on much aside from booze, gear for his next job, and the necessities of life.

But one day, the family he worked for brought in a few slave Twi'lek girls...and he found himself enraptured by one. He began a romance with her-the Twi'leks only danced, the family had strong objections to prostitution. After several months, she confessed feelings for him. He immediately offered the Capo a deal: All his credits for her freedom, and his as well. Rather than take the credits, the Capo gave him a job. An impossible task but if he did it, she was his and he would be free. No one except Jonathan and the Capo know the details of that job, only that it left such a pile of bodies behind that the Capo had a bloody foundation for a massive criminal empire, to rival even the Hutt Lords. The Capo, amazed beyond belief, honored the terms of the deal.

There are no happy endings on the Edge. A job like that comes with enemies. He pissed off a lot of people, and they came into the nightclub where Jonathan and his Twi'lek girlfriend were having one last night of partying, blasting the place with so many bolts one could barely see past the flashing lights of the shots. Jonathan survived and even took a few down before they ran off-they didn't get him in the initial burst, so they knew it was no use sticking around. What they did hit, however...was the woman he loved.

Her name was Clea'zura. A name he screamed at the top of his lungs as he took his revenge, gunning down everyone who stood between him and the man who had ordered the hit, a Hutt Lord who saw Jonathan's now former Capo as a threat. Revenge begets revenge, however, and soon, a dozen criminal organizations were in an all out war to kill Jonathan. In the end of it all, one man stood alone, with enough blood to make the waters of Kamino run red poured around him. He disappeared. Many assume he was disintegrated, or that he is one of the dozens of unidentified bodies from the shootout.

But Jonathan Mutaze still lives. He calls himself Travis Chance now, using a fake ID, one of his Capo's last gifts, and has constructed a new life around being this strange and mysterious wanderer. He runs odd jobs, courier duty, armed escort, plenty of people can use a hired gun. However, he clings desperately to the oath he made Clea'zura on their last night together, the one he whispered as he clutched her dead body in his arms: Never again would he kill for money. That life is behind him.

No one will let him forget it, though. Those who learn he is still alive will attempt to hire him for a hit. He disappears before they can get properly angry at his refusal. Make no mistake: He is perfectly happy to rough people up, to knock them out and capture them, and will still kill in self defense, but he will never accept a hit job. He is Assassin no more...but, will something on the Edge push him to violate his oath, and sink back into the great game of assassination and revenge once more?

https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1731692

I don't have gear yet since I am waiting to see how much obligation we will have.  I am going with a Bounty Hunter Gadgeteer from Corellia who may not be all right in the head anymore after too long far from home and a few bad run ins.

Corvel was not born rich, Corvel was born wealthy, money that would last generations and could be utilized through the various family connections.  His family was as wide as it was tall as well and were deep into CEC, CorSec, CDF, and CMC.  His family was old money and old in style though, young men and women of the family were not expected to simply sit back and accrue interest but strike out and find adventure in the galaxy.  The independent streak of Corellia ran deep in Corvel's family and in him.  As a result while most did not stray too far from home Corvel stuck out to the edges of civilized space and beyond going out into the Outer Rim in a brand new YT-1300 fresh out of the factory yard.

Trying his hand at a variety of things Corvel met with decent success easily, he was clever, quick, and skilled, worse yet, he knew it.  In the less civilized regions of space simple skill was not enough to get by and after awhile this came to him in the most brutal of ways. Getting involved with some Hutt clans Corvel thought himself clever enough to outsmart them and play them against each others.  He paid for this arrogance with his ship and a blaster shot to the gut.  You cannot live on money and cleverness alone, you need real capabilities, friends at your back, and true strength, not the things he played at before.  There was a reason the soft natured relatives of his had always stuck closer to home, they lacked the strength of the Outer Rim and less civilized space.

Leveraging skills Corvel found allies out beyond the reach of law and order, they were small fries, little cogs working against big wheels but they had skills just the same.  Corvel saw back on how weak he had been and refused to seek aid from his family, instead he found strength in this space he had traveled to.  Building up friends, allies, and resources in the Outer Rim he found strength here among hard beings rather than the soft core worlds.  The way he saw things, the Republic had been lucky in the Clone War.  The CIS and their corporate masters were born of Core World greed and weakness and had squandered the strengths of the wilder space, that despite the industrial capability of the core worlds the separatists had come so close to victory and the Republic had relied on a strike at the leadership of the Trade Federation for victory only proved this.

War is brewing in the galaxy, one even bigger than the Clone Wars and millions will die in battles as the new Empire attempts to clench it's fist around the throat of the galaxy.  It will fail though, just as the Republic fell to it's own decadence and weakness the Empire will meet the same fate in less than a generation.  The lessons he has seen away from civilization have shown Corvel this and now it is his responsibility to his brethren to teach the same lesson.  Beside his and allies in the Black Sun the strengths of a harsh reality will be taught.  Freedom comes at a grave cost, nobody is entitled to anything, even life, and everything must be earned.

A name for himself is the first thing he needs to do this, he has allies in the Black Sun and brought his friend Grixx from their ranks to aid him in his hunts.  With a name he can create his own independent wealth from his family.  Without this name or their resources he will show them his strength so he can return to Corellia and prepare it for the coming storm.  Despite their weakness he still has loyalty to his family and to his home planet.  It a weakness of his that he accepts and one he will work against for as long as he is able in order to forge it into a strength.

Name: Oded Fehr
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Career: Imperial Army's Stormtrooper Corps (Explorer)
Specializations: Sniper Scout (Scout)

Physical Description: Dark haired and dark eyed, Oded looks older than he is.  He shaves daily but develops a five o'clock shadow quickly.  He keeps his hair relatively short, in a military style cut.  It's an old habit that might get him in trouble one day.   Having spent most of his life with only dull, utilitarian clothing to wear, Oded tends to go a little overboard on his off time, wearing brilliant colours (preferring reds and purples) unless he is working on one of his speeders, in which case he wears generic coveralls.

Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 160 lbs
Hair Color: black
Eye Color: brown

Personality:Oded is a humanist.  It's a trait he picked up while protecting his families nerf herds.  It wasn’t just four legged predators that learned the hard way that the nerf were well protected.  He'd killed six Rhodians, two Trandosians  and a Karkarodon by the time he was old enough to apply for the academy.  He sees aliens as lesser beings but that attitude is conflicted when the alien is more humanoid.  A Twi'lek, for example would be of higher status than a Wookie, even if the Twi'lek was a slave and the Wookie was free.  He has problems with his attraction to certain alien females; he cannot reconcile his attraction with his attitude that they are lesser beings.

Oded is also very thoughtful and quiet.  He seems to have limitless patience when given a task and does not have any kind of a temper.  This does not mean he is without passion; those few things he cares about he is very enthusiastic about.  He is an avid speeder bike fan and has a love of firearms that has endured since childhood.   Some see him as cold and callous.  He prefers to be thought of as clinical.  He proudly wore the grey armour of the sniper scouts and was crushed when he was forced to set it aside.

Brief Bio:: Oded started life as a seventh generation nerf herder.  He grew up with the smell and frequently remarks about the air smelling funny when there are no nerf nearby.  His earliest memories are of feeding the animals.  His entire life revolved around nerf, whether it was herding them, shearing them or butchering them for meat.  He learned to shoot to protect the herds from predators, becoming a crack shot by the time he was twelve.  He learned to repair and maintain the speeder bikes they used to patrol the crazing lands, to keep predators and rustlers at bay.

It bored him to the point of contemplating suicide.  Each day, he hoped, even prayed for something, ANYTHING to happen, to break up the monotony.  One day, his prayers were answered, when he saw a recruitment add for the Imperial Forces.  After that, all Oded wanted was to be a soldier.  Stuck on a backwater planet, riding herd on nerf and using stray predators as target practice, he was literally counting the days before he could apply to the academy.  When that day finally came, it was like a rebirth. He transmitted an application within an hour.

His aptitude for handling a speeder marked him as a shoe in for the scout corps and his keen eye and seemingly endless patience brought him to the attention of the recruiters for the sniper scouts. His skill with a rifle and his familiarity with speeders, coupled with his ability to work on his own for long hours and his facility for taking instructions moved him easily through training and he was graduated the academy as a member of the scout trooper sniper squad.  He was a round peg in a round hole and was happier than he'd been in years.  Combined with a seemingly fanatical devotion to the Empire and a disregard for the value of the lives of his targets, Oded was looking forward to a long career as a sniper scout, before retiring to  well earned pension.  It wasn't meant to be.  The problem was, unless he was out on patrol, boredom was boredom and Oded started looking for ways to alleviate that boredom.

He'd recently made lieutenant when it happened.  It was late, there was some alcohol involved, somebody made a claim that they were the best bike jockey in the galaxy and Oded had to prove him wrong.  Dereliction of duty, conduct unbecoming, misappropriation of military vehicles, drunken and disorderly conduct, the militray tribunal certainly had a lot of ways to describe what was essentially a race around the perimeter of the base.  Nobody got hurt and nothing got broken.  He was given a dishonourable discharge.

While awaiting his day in court, he'd shared a cell with a
Mirialan
TIE fighter ace.  She was in the same boat as he was, facing court martial for a botched landing that had destroyed half a squadron of interceptor.  With no better options, they pooled their resources and got into bounty hunting.

And maybe a Twi'lek female:

Captain Whitebread

ANOTHER Twi'lek sidekick?  Now I really want to play my Twi'lek.  Too bad Muse beat me to it.

Not sure I used the right character sheet model....so if there's anything you need me to adjust, let me know.

Name: Zalara Faan
Gender: Female
Race: Echani
Class: Scoundrel

Age: 20
Height: 5'7
Weight: 130 lbs
Skin: Ash white
Hair: White
Eyes:  Purple
Description: Passionate, fiery, sultry, aggressive, cold and very intelligent.  Zalara has the same white skin that all Echani have with the exception that much of her body is covered in tattoos.  Zalara keeps her greyish white hair tied in a tight tail on the back of her head.  The sides of her head are shaved up to her ears.  She generally wears a hood to hide the majority of her face from view.  She is quick on her feet with an icy wit. She's been called cold and calculating.

Bio:
Zalara Faan was the daughter of a medium level merchant in Eshani's business district.  She grew up a relatively regular kid until her father and a number of other local businessmen were rounded up by Akyran troops for suspected sedition.  While there had never been any truth to the charges, Raeara Faan and his co-conspirators were found guilty and executed.  Zalara was too young at the time to be considered a conspirator, and was taken in by friend of the family who had once been a well known Echani warrior.  Zalara learned discipline and fighting techniques while she grew up in the care of her mentor.

Zarlara's mentor died before she had fully matured to adulthood, leaving Zalara on her own again.  Zalara spent the next couple of years selling her skills for passage out of Akyran controlled space.  The skills she collected in those years since she left Eshani have turned her into a formidable bounty hunter and smuggler.  Zalara's main focus had always been to stay one step ahead of Hunters for the Empire who would do nothing to finding her and force her into an Empire training camp.  Echani women are renowned warriors and the Empire relishes a chance to capture an Echani outside their homeworld which is heavily defended by Echani Hand Maidens.

Raskta

The Raskta is the spoil of Zalara's 3rd bounty which was supposed to be a simple retrieval of an Imperial Blockade Runner but turned into a twenty parsec chase through an asteroid belt and class 4 nebula.  Considering the damage to her chase ship, Zalara claimed the ship as payment for her bounty and has put a considerable amount of money into upgrading and refitting the Raskta.

Captain Whitebread

orderNchaos, you built a SAGA edition character.  We're using Force & Destiny.....

Did I mention I'm playing a former Imperial Sniper Scout?

I'm more familiar with SAGA myself as well.  A friend introduced me to Force & Destiny.  I'm still a little fuzzy on the dice but the character creation is simple enough.  You can find lots of character generators online.

Or you could PM the Great Pumpkin.

Ok, I must have misunderstood...I thought everyone could have their own starting out.

Honestly, this has been more trouble than it was worth.

Sorry to waste anyone's time.
