You know, a lot of Jules Verne stuff has a steampunk feel to it ;)

She led me to safety in a forest of green, and showed my stale eyes some sights never seen.
She spins magic and moonlight in her meadows and streams, and seeks deep inside me,
and touches my dreams. - Harry Chapin

The reason I think Verne is pushing it on the 'steam' aspect is because of the time-period he was writing in.  It's like a story involving desktop computers written in 1930 would be 'science fiction' but if it's written in 1990, it's just 'fiction'.

Has anyone ever played the PC game 'Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura'.  it is a great game for anyone who like steam punk crossed over with elves, dwarves, magic, and the like.

I know it's a comedy film (I love it) but I thought the film Wild, Wild West was brilliant for all the gadgets and the giant spider.

I'm not a 100% sure it really counts but I seem to recall that Harry Harrison wrote a novel about a long tunnel (maybe under the Arctic Ocean) set years ago but I'm not sure if that featured lots of modern technology or not (apologies I've been lazy and not looked it up).

Hi everyone.
I am a huge fan of steam punk and have been really getting into the culture of it.  I really want to start reading books and watching tv or movies that have a steam punk theme.  If there is anything like that, and you would like to recommend it, I would be extremely grateful.
Wait for my book to get published. If it's not steam-punk I don't know what is. :/
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

I'll echo Wild Wild West - but I'd suggest looking up the old TV series as well.  Lots of strange gadgets combined with an era where every boot and bodice could conceal a pistol.

Agreed. Definitely good reference.. and way before the term came up. Also check out an old series about the Adventures of Jules Verne (or such)

A bit old, but with some steampunk elements is Wild Wild West
