Twin brother.



Twin sister.



Sister that would soon die.

It all happened so fast. The screeching tires, the glass smashing and then the painful scream he heard last. They never had gotten into a car crash before tonight so she wore no seat belt and he never told her to put it on. Because of this she was thrown about twenty feet through the air and landed on the grass. Her body was covered with scrapes and shards of glass because she went through the windshield. She was knocked unconscious but she was alive for now thought that would not last long. He would need to find her and be with her for her last final moments on this earth.

[Silence]

Everything was a blur as Nathan lifted his head up, he had a bruise on his forehead from were it had bounced off the steering wheel.

“You okay mand…”

Before he could finish saying her name it dawned on him that she wasn’t next to him. As his vision cleared Nathan saw where part of the windshield was gone and a body laying down the road.

Fumbling with the handle Nathan fell out of the car after he took off his seat belt. Stumbling towards Mandy’s body, the horror was growing inside of him as he saw her body. He should of made her wear the seatbelt.. Dropping to his knees Nathan leaned down to listen for her breath and it was very faint.

“No.. You can’t die this way..”

Thinking quickly he did his best to perform CPR, hoping that he could save his sisters life. His hands were shaky and he was terrified at the thought of losing Mandy, she had always been there for him his entire life.

“Mandy! Speak to me!”

Part of him wished this was simply a bad dream, but deep down he knew this was a reality that he had to face. Nathan held her, shaking her lightly with hopes of bringing Mandy to her senses.

When he came over to her and lifted her head up she moaned. She was still alive so no CPR was needed yet. "Bro?" She coughed up some blood as her head fell against his arm in weakness. Though she should be dead she was still clinging to life but for how long? A single tear fell from her cheek and landed on his arm.

[Silence]

"It's me sis, everythings going to be okay.." He was trying to be strong for her but it was difficult seeing her like this. As Mandy coughed up the blood, he could feel his heart sink and a lump form in his throat. Holding closer as he felt the lone tear land on his arm he spoke to her softly "Don't leave me."

She closed her eyes for a few seconds and then opened them to look up at him. "I'm sorry." Slowly she lifted up her arm and touched his arm with her hand. This was not going to be easy saying goodbye to him. She just hoped he was going to be alright after this happened to him.

[Silence]

"Don't be sorry, it's all going to be okay" It was a lie and they both knew it, but he wanted everything to be okay in the end. He looked down into her eyes as he fought back tears. What was he going to do without his big Sis around? Everytime he needed advice she was always there for him and to cheer him up when he was down. He couldn't just lose her like this, not Mandy.

Another cough came and she coughed up more blood her vision was starting to become blurry. "I love y....." She could not finish her sentence and her hand dropped from his arm. Her head fell against his arm and he could feel her last shaky breath against his cold skin.

[Silence]

As tears filled his eyes Nathan gave one last attempt at CPR but it was no use. Nathan held Mandy as he wept, there was nothing that could describe the levels of sorrow that he was feeling right now. In the distance you could heard sirens, someone must of called 911 but it was to late. Nathan had lost his closest friend, a sister that could never be replaced in his heart.

The CPR did nothing but keep her body alive for a bit. No pulse nor breath could be felt after it. She was gone. When the EMT's got there they walked slowly over to him knowing she would be dead. "I'm sorry we're going to have to take her." They said quietly not wanting him to freak out.

[Silence]

His face was emotionless, like his very soul had just been taken from him. One of the EMT's helped Nathan to his feet, he watched as the EMT's placed a white sheet over Mandy. To them this was just another day at work, to Nathan this was the most painful thing he has ever gone through.

Soon she was loaded into a truck and taken away to the morgue. A few police man stayed behind and asked him some questions about what happened. About an hour later his twin sister came home not knowing what happened around her and the blood was already picked up.

[Silence]

Nathan sat on the trunk of the police car and watched as the Ambulance took the body away. His gaze didn't leave the road as the sun began to set, the hour that passed by felt more like a single moment to him. Nathan hadn't even realized that his twin sister had been called to pick him up.

All she was told was that her brother and sister were in a car crash and her sister was dead. The tears flowed down her cheeks after hearing about it and a few moments later she arrived hoping he was not hurt. "Nathan?" She cried out running over to him and hugging his body. Her blond hair bouncing.

[Silence]

It took Nathan a moment to notice that his twin sister was there & even then he didn't even return her embrace. His eyes were fixed on the horizon, but there was nothing in his eyes but a dark void. He didn't so much as say a single word to her, those emotionless eyes fixed on the setting sun.

(I have to go for a bit I hope your on in life half an hour) "Come on let's go home." She whispered pulling away from her brother since he did not respond to her hug at all. She did not know what happened or the whole story. The worst thing was she died in his eyes and she did not know that.

[Silence]

He followed his sister over to her car, Nathan got in the backseat. He didn't want to be around anyone, let alone his own sister. He looked out the window as they began to pull away. Nathans car was in the process of being towed away, it was completely trashed. Nathan was so quiet you almost questioned if he was breathing.

"Nathan please say something." She said as they drove home in silence. Usually he was a chatter box but today there was something different. Would he start freaking out because they were driving home? He was just traumatized and she thought he would freak out.

[Silence]

Nathan felt as if the car was speeding up even though his sister was going the speed limit. His breathing began to pick up and he looked around in a panic. "Stop the car!!" He began screaming almost at the top of his lungs as his emotions gave way and he finally broke down into tears.

She jumped suddenly when the yell from her brother came through her ears. Slowly she pulled off to the side and stopped the car. "Nathan what's wrong?" She turned around in her seat and looked at him.

[Silence]

Everything was playing over in his mind again. The wreck, his sisters lifeless body... It was more than he could handle. He got out of the car and knelt down with his face burried in the palms of his hands. Looking up he saw his twin sister walking towards him, but still he said nothing as he continued to mourn.

She got out of the car and headed toward him. "It's alright." She knew what was going on and wrapped her arms around his shaking body. Slowly she rubbed his back gently to try and calm his nerves a little bit.

[Silence]

Nathan let his body rest against his sisters, lifting his hand up to take a hold of the arms she had wrapped around him. After a few more minutes of crying he quietly said "Thank you." He couldn't let this affect him forever, and did his best to muster up some will power in that moment.

Truth be told the tears came to her eyes as she thought about their sister and how she could have lost him to. "You would do the same thing for me right?" She said hugging him tightly not wanting to let him go for now at least.

[Silence]

Nathan just nodded his head, thats about as close to a yes as she was going to get from him at that moment. He didn't try to stand up as she held him, being comforted is something he needed right now even if he didn't want to admit it.

After a few more moments she gently pulled away from him. "Can we try and go home now? We're not that far. I mean if you feel like trying again." She whispered looking into his eyes.
