I will tell you what brought this about. So recently TNT ran the Matrix Trilogy and so I was thinking about it and I came to this conclusion:

The Matrix did not need a sequel let alone two. The function of the other two movies served only to do two things. That is, they further convoluted the plot until you were waiting for the next fight sequence just to numb your brain and the second thing was they just nerfed the hell out of Neo and made his whole existence kind of moot.

Whatcha' think? It can be movies, books, games. Just kind of give a reason... so it doesn't descend into just angst-ridden whatever.
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

King_Furby

Tomba - Ps1 game. It's kinda of one of the hidden gems of the system, it was a fun puzzle-platform game and i loved it. But then they did Tomba II in 3d and it wasn't good. It's shameful the sequel had no magic in it.

And there does not need to be so many Spyro the dragon games.

Hunter

I agree about the Matrix really not needing a sequel.

Needs a Sequel: Legend of the Dragoon.  Also Parasite Eve needs another sequel.

Yes, unfortunately, they've been planning it for a while now and Smith is even wanting to return to the role, since they went with the Action ending in theaters he can't be in a sequel so there you go.  I'm hoping this movie concept dies a horrible death that it deserves...

This that did not need a prequel? The original Star Wars trilogy...

Wouldn't the prequel to I Am Legend just be a classic 'plague-ridden-monsters' movie where the monsters win?  After all, I Am Legend (assuming that the movie was remotely close to the book in the way that Beastmaster was not) was about the last surviving human and his war against the 'creatures of the night'.

It should spawn an entire series of "[Insert Animal] On A.." movies. All of them starring Dean Cain.

My big pet peev on what the frak were they thinking:

Halloween, the revisioning by Rob Zombie

I thought the remake was genius the sequal was so stupid and annoying I lost alot of respect for Rob Zombie who created a masterpiece in the first.

On a similar note is anyone else sick of remakes of old movies that don't do anything special to the original? Halloween is fine the director really did revision it to be new and deeper. But come one Karate Kid when they don't do Karate and ,gasp, Clash of the Titans. And I heard that the legendary Logan's Run is being remade I see no reason for that at all.

Well..techniqually, It's about the "last Surviving Human" fighting creatures of the night and surviving, broadcasting a message to anyone who will listen..

UNTIL.

Spoilers!

He finds out that he's not the last man on earth, at all, and that there is an entire colony of survivors who are immune just like him...however, he makes a heroic sacrifice after discovering the cure to said plague, allowing the woman and child that saved his ass one night to escape with it, and from the city, to get to the colony to give them the cure.

Which one? O-o..The Last Airbender set itself up for a sequel, and has room for two more 'books'...though considering it's a failure of epic proportions, I don't think it will happen.

akalasEDGE

...If you mean Avatar as in "blue cat people," there's one coming. It probably won't take as long as the last one, though.
But if you mean Avatar the cartoon, there's a sequel series coming, involving the next Avatar after Aang. (I'm hoping that Aang is as crazy awesome as Bumi was in Last Airbender... or that Zuko turns into the new Iroh. <3 UNCLE IROH)

...But! For things that don't need sequels... Saw 3? 3 of those movies was enough for me; i haven't seen any since.

Another would be Firefly, actually. I know, strike me down with lightning and various blunt instruments, but a new Firefly series would never be as good as the original, I think. The reasons it is so popular are that it was awesome, and that it ended too soon, but if it started up again, it'd feel forced.

I think they might mean the M. Night Shamalamadingdong affront to the Avatar cartoon.  He might have plenty of canon source material for two more movies, but we saw how badly he treated the first season.

Anyone think The Boondock Saints needed a sequel? It was an alright movie but I thought it was un-needed

Plenty of Disney movies have bad sequels.

Boondock Saints shouldn't have been made.  I would love to have seen a sequel as good as the original but Duffy blew it big time with the sequel.  Movie was terrible, and filled with utterly random scenes following the next.

It's just..hilarious how bad this movie is going to be...And it's not going to be bad in a good way, like Rocky Horror..it's just going to be pure excrement. o-o

Did not need any MORE sequels: Terminator and Robobcop. Both should have stopped at number 2, because Terminator 1 and 2 and Robocop 1 and 2 are all awesome movies. Number 3 though...shit for both of them. Way to ruin Terminator 2's message of hope and fighting fate.

Needed a sequel: The Super Mario Brothers movie. Yeah, that's right, the live action one with Bob Hoskins as Mario. It was a awesome movie (and I mean that, I love that thing) and totally set itself up perfectly. Big villain for the sequel? That Scapelli character who got turned into a monkey, only he manages to "evolve" into a larger monkey with more intelligence. Putting on his best tie he seeks revenge with his mafia ties and throwing barrels.

What I like about the highlander movies...is somehow in the thrid movie they seem to have ignored everything in the second one as though it never happened lol. That's what you get I suppose for rushing to make a sequel hoping it will be as successful as the first.

I still remember the version of Clash of the Titans with Harry Hamlin...looking back that was just Gosh awful -_-....

And  on the subject of remakes, I still prefer the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder. ^^ That Veruca Salt was just plain nasty. And the new Mike Teevee has nothing on the old one.

But since this is supposed to be about sequels...

Speed 2...I don't know what they were thinking. You lose Keanu Reeves you got nothing compared to the first one. There was no chemistry at all in the second.

Actually that Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has, in my opinion a better ending than the book.
In the book Charlie one just because he was a good kid. In the movie he had to show real character. That's one of the few time's I'll say a movie was better than the book.

Dune if the other one, for one reason.

I didn't know that ^^, But that's one of those movies I can watch over and over again any time it's on TV. That along with "A Christmas Story." Which came out at the same time as The original Star Wars. Meaning it never stood a chance in the box office.

Don't get me wrong I love Johnny Depp in most things but I think his take on Willy Wonka was a weeeee bit too creepy for my taste o.0

And since mentioning Star Wars...did anyone else think Chapter 2 should never have been done? That scene where Anakin is rolling down the hill with Padme laughing was not romantic in the least...it just looked plain stupid. Another couple which lacked any sort of chemistry in my opinion. Though even all the chemistry in the world couldn't have made that scene work o.0

Honestly, if you think of all the stupid crap couples do that looks totally insipid to any outside view while you watch that scene you realize that that's a very well done scene. :)

Episode Two is my personal favorite of all the new ones. Grand Army of the Republic for the win!

the problem isn't that the starwars prequals became movies the problem is that the actor for anakin was too convincing as a whiney little sissy. it totally blows my mind that anakin becomes vader after watching the prequals.

frankly i'm horrified with the way theyre making comic book movies but that's not quite what this topic is about eh?

in any case i don't think that there should have been sequals for megaman X 6......i mean the fact that megaman X got 6 sequals was good enough for a game legacy i mean they were awesome but then the PS2 games just really really killed it.

Anything with Hayden motherfucking Christensen is bound to be a horrible failure. Seriously, his expression almost never changes throughout the course of the prequels. When he does manage to bring some emotion it feels every bit as forced as the worst of bad 80s action movies. Not the campy, so good they're bad ones. The ones that are just bad.

Contrary to what most think, I feel that The Wicker Man deserved the Nicolas Cage remake. I haven't seen the original, but I could watch the remake over and over and over. Films that are self-aware, whether homage or parody to their styles, such as Kill Bill or Planet Terror, are entertaining, of course, but something about a movie that takes itself seriously yet exhibits the same qualities, being a remake or homage to a style, such as The Wicker Man, makes it all the more hilarious.

In this little Scandinavian's opinion, Dragon Ball.  I loved that series... DBZ and it's sucessors just seem so much less... worth it to me.  Not to disparage those who love the series, and I know you are legion, but... the whole 'We're all aliens!' bit reminds me of what killed Highlander for me.

Okay, I will admit--I loved the first movie as a child. Even now, as an adult nearly 24 years old, I still have fond memories of the movies because I will still watch it with younger children I'm babysitting (on the rare off-chance I'm actually DOING so for my friends or cousins), and the second one wasn't bad. But then things started stagnating after the third one, and by the fourth the whole shebang was just getting old, and I didn't see it.

After a while, though, it was like...every year a new Land Before Time came out, and I recall the commercials and remembering getting ever more incredulous that they kept increasing the sequel numbers....and then, eventually, a TV series of its own, which seems to have finally killed the franchise after an otherwise successful run (with the series having run about...what...50 episodes or something)?

Seriously, though, 13 films in the series AND a TV show? Where does it end?

(Of course, I really shouldn't say anything about this as this same argument could be supplanted to other works with just as many installments in its OWN franchise. Mario, Mega Man, and Pokemon spring to mind right off the top of my head but I'm sure many, many other examples could be named...)
