I've decided after a time of giving GMing a break to come back to the fold and checking if anyone would be interested in this!  ;D

In an adventure dubbed 'Dark Pursuits', you the Players will each be rping as an Inquisitorial Acolyte in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, investigating a mysterious case on a Hiveworld (for lore newbs, think a world covered like MegaCity One from Judge Dredd and you're spot on).

This game is a science fiction set investigation/procedural in genre. There will also be a side of action and socialising with a variety of people and as this is E, your characters are free to fraternize with your coworkers if so needs!  :D

The game I am hoping is to be friendly to all players and those with zero knowledge or beginners along with veterans to the lore. Questions fielded at me are welcomed and shall be answered, though one at a time please!  ;D

On said planet, which dwells in a part of space near the Eye of Terror, a series of strange deaths have been occuring where strange relics either xenos or archeotech related have been found on the bodies. Could these items be the basis of some sort of corruption? Be it xenos, daemon or heretic? What links are there between a possible distribution of these strange relics and the deaths they seem to attract? Secondarily the Acolytes must contain and quarantine any such relic found until the mystery is unraveled.

The game will be a system game, using Dark Heresy 2nd edition (infact the 'Dark Pursuits' adventure we will be playing is the introductory adventure from that book, once we complete it, we will be moving on to more adventures). If you do not own the corebook, just let me know... You will not be discounted from playing and I will help out with that one issue.

The game will be fairly dice roll-light outside of combat, I will be shaking the rust off of GMing and be as much as a beginner as anyone else who may wish to give this a whirl. Post frequency will be fairly casual, hoping for one GM update post per week at a minimum whether you want one or not and banter is heartily encouraged (though writing huge seven plus paragraphs of describing your outfit and hair makes me sad... Keep filler in posts down please!). There'll be an OOC thread as per norm with a single thread for the main plot. Sex is welcome and encouraged between PCs, though please move it to other threads so to keep the main plot of the story not getting derailed.  :-)

I have not decided which board this will go in yet, I'm open to hearing from anyone interested where they'd like it to be placed. I do not think the game has anything in it's plot to dictate it being in Extreme, though we are dealing with a murder mystery and violence will be per for the course as you'll be packing weapons and fighting for your lives is going to happen.

Please realise your character may die in the story, though if this happens you have the choice to bring in a new character if you still wish to play.

Number talk for numbers people;

For when we get to character generation, it will be standard point buy plus 1000xp spend (so normal generation) after a brief discussion on what Acolyte role the players all wish. I'd like to avoid doubling up, so we can have ideally a combaty person, a knowledge person and a social person as the basics with others coming in to fill any gaps and so there's no stepping on each other's toes with abilities.

For those with a bit more experience with Dark Heresy, it'll be corebook stuff only (no homebrew stuff, no supplement book stuff) when characters are made (to keep things simple and plain for everyone!), though the Psyker and Untouchable Elite advances are okay to buy up (1 slot for each) if wanted and you really want to be a special min-maxed snowflake of a character.

That said, I think that covers everything! Lemme know if you have any questions or I missed something here and I will answer them as I see them! Thanks in advance for giving this a look in! :)

Are there a lot of differences between 1st and 2nd ed?

The character generation seems more based off Only War, so that's the biggest change. I have a contigency set so everyone will be on the same page for that, so don't worry there.

Individual Thrones for money has been thrown out and replaced with the Influence stat for getting items like in the other games having a stat to roll off for item gains. So it's a lot like the later 40k rpg books in that manner for item requisition.

Otherwise the system is pretty much exactly the same as it always has been and if you have experience playing the other games, there's nothing really different at all once you're in-play.

It won't be an issue if you don't own 2nd edition.

The system is streamlined down a bit, power scale isn't completely out of whack. Players are more likely to survive a fight than accidentally shoot themselves in the face with an autopistol. Skills are condensed down and easier to acquire and psykers won't accidentally murder the party by turning into the gateway for a daemon prince (mostly). I feel like it's a vast improvement over 1e, though FFG lost the license last year so what we have for supplements is what we get.

I am, by the by, interested in a Dark Heresy game.

Very interested in this, as I love 40k...don't own the rulebook though...

Also...one MAJOR concern:

that's fine but...might need that much for a weapon. Not enough dakka otherwise.

wander

Cool, thanks for the interest! :)

As an aside, as mentioned in my OP I'll only be using corebook stuff anyway, so supplements and any lack thereof won't matter with this game. If we get through the first adventure, depending I may look at the published supplements then, though not for starting characters and players new to the game at least. :)

Loving descriptions of your fave gun Vera is acceptable, just be sensible as if everyone writes massive posts I'll need to check through thousands of words which may not say much at all before I can make update posts!
Reading filler that advances nothing makes this Tech-Priest sad. Please don't do it. ^^;

EDIT: As mentioned above, I'll sort out people who don't have the book, let me know and arrangements can be made!

Bolter babes? Isn't a Sister of Battle be way to well equipped and trained to be a low level char anyways? Kinda why i'd assume you can't be an astartes. Well...maybe an initiate...

wander

You can start as an 'Adepta Sororitas' in a supplement, which is sorta like a sister on the way to becoming a full Sister of Battle (which is an Elite Advance).

Corebook classes for now only however. I don't want to swamp newbies with options as I really would like to attract people who may not otherwise have played before along with veterans.

It should go without saying your character can be any gender and sexuality that you want no matter the character's role in the Acolytes, so if you wanted for an example a female Arbites or a gay Mechanicus, these are valid choices in my eyes. :)

Eobelle

I am interested in this.  I love 1e, but haven't gotten to play 2e yet.

Pumpkin Seeds

Also interested.  Definitely wanting a more combat oriented character is possible.

Interest check! I have a soft spot for Warhammer. (Mostly for Fantasy, but I like slumming it up in the Grimdark Future too.) I even own my own book, although I admit to being a little sad about the lack of expansions. I'm a huge nerd for poring over charts and tables.
There was a SIGNATURE here.

It's gone now.

Zenkai

Blood for Blood God! Skulls for Skull Throne! Uh. errm. I mean, The Emprah protects, always!

Even though I do miss the madness that is Inquisitor, I'll gladly dip into this Dark Hearsay. A nice shotgun-wielding Arbites or a holster-covered desperado should be fun to play.

wander

Awesome, well I think I can say the interest is here! xD

For those who do have the 2e corebook, that's all you'll need and feel free to openly discuss character ideas!

For those who don't have the 2e corebook and are serious with their interest, PM me and I can get you up to speed! :)

For people who want more combatty roles, I'd recommend taking a look at Assassin (for DPS!), Desperado (for gunplay!) and Warrior (for super accurate attacks!). Arbites, Imperial Guard and Outcasts all make fine backgrounds for those roles.

Ideally, I'm also looking for;
A party white mage as a Chirurgeon, Face as the Heirophant, be the loreperson as a Sage and a perceptive investigator type as the Seeker. Many of these are good classes for an Adeptus Mechanicus, though really you are all free to chat it out now and see where our band of Acolytes goes with.

Of course you can have a mix of specialties depending on which options you prefer and go with. Just remember you'll have others investigating alongside you so you don't have to be great at everything. :)

Right now we're only discussing preferences for characters, no generating any yet, cheers! Away you go! Discuss!

Pumpkin Seeds

Certainly wanting to make a Desperado style character with pistols a flashing.

Eobelle

I'm interested in a shrine world maiden who wanted to be a Sister of Battle but was found to be a psyker, crushing her dreams.  She is now a sanctioned psyker hoping to become an inquisitor someday and lead sisters into the fight against the enemy within, without and beyond.

Pumpkin Seeds

Thus far I am leaning toward a former Hive ganger that stumbled onto something she should have left alone.  Thinking perhaps a bit of political scandal or some dark secrets.  She set out on the run and eventually found protection and favor of an Inquisitor that took her knowledge to uncover some rot in the Imperium.

Interested in the game, though somewhat dependent on getting my PC working again.

Been a while since I've done anything 40k related, but I'd be tempted to play a mech-assassin - an unobtrusively augmented techpriest specialised in covert ops, as opposed to your more typical ad mech type. Might suit a seeker, or similar specialisation.

wander

Cool stuff so far! :)

I'm gonna be keeping an eye on things when I can and seeing if I can help with character concepts somewhat with lil thoughts here and there.

Pumpkin Seeds;
Neat! Sounds like you got a build pretty figured out! A Hive Worlder turned Desperado is very Necromunda cool. :) What background do you think you'll go for? If you wanted to go super combatty I'd recommend Imperial Guard, though of course it's up to you. ^^

Eobelle;
I guess you're taking the Mystic class? Are you going Astra Telepathica for background (though your concept sounds very 'Outcast' in a manner) or are you doing another type of character and using your starting xp for the Psyker Elite Advance? :)

Firepyre;
If you wanna go Ad Mech, though on the covert ops side, I'd recommend to have them from a Hive World. A Seeker would be very useful for the Acolytes!

HairyHeretic

I'd like to toss my hat in as well. Thinking a Void Born Tech Priest, probably Sage, possibly Chirurgeon (though if I can take medicae skills along with the Sage, that would work pretty well)

Eobelle:
It'll be standard point buy, as mentioned in my OP.

So for the unitiated reading this, your scores start at 25 each and you'll have 60pts to divide between them as you wish, with no score ending up higher than 40.

I am willing to allow those who want to roll to do so, though for those that do I'll be checking their diceroll logs for honesty and if they end up with stats being less than what you'd get with points buy you can't make up the difference. So there's a chance you may end up with awesome stats, though also you could be lumbered with someone useless. If anyone wants to take that gamble, they're free to. ^^;

For ease I figured point buy would keep everyone on the same level, it'd be fair and you're still going to have good chances of beating the conflicts the Acolytes will be facing. :)

Hairy;
Great to have you! Expect a PM coming to you very soon. :)

Galanthor

Ok...finally got to look through the rulebook...was kinda into mechadendrites, but after reading what everyone here wrote i'm kinda thinking: Drunk Priest.
To maximize the Hypocrisy involved I'd kinda like to make a Hierophant so he'll be really great as preaching all the stuff he barely believes in anymore.
Background i'm thinking Highborn

Also I should point out that i have barely an idea what i'm doing here.

HairyHeretic

If you go the dice rolling route is it the usual roll 10 and drop the worst score, assign where you want?

Galanthor:
I like this idea! Very Uriel from The Last Church of you!  ;D

So Highborn is your World of Origin. I'd say go with Adeptus Ministorum for your background for the full spin on that concept! If you need a helping hand with anything, gimme a PM or ask questions here and I'll answer as best I can if someone else doesn't beforehand.

Hairy;
Yep, roll 3d10 for all characteristics, then pick the highest 2 each time. This means you're gonna need to use the dicebot to do ten 3d10 rolls (as Influence is rolled the same as all other usual 40k rpg attributes).

In regards to the Medicae skill from your previous message, you'll need the Intelligence and/or Fieldcraft Aptitudes to increase it at a decent xp cost. Ideally you want both of them come the end of figuring out your homeworld, background and role. There are too many combos to really suggest how best to do that, so feel free to look through them and go with the combination you like best.

(As an aside the Sage role comes with Intelligence, though no Homeworld has the Fieldcraft Aptitude. Imperial Guard comes with it as does Outcast. Multiple roles have that as an Aptitude.)
