I have Windows XP SP3, and an external DVD R/W drive connected via USB. It's a Sony DRU503A if that's helpful. Shouldn't I be able to play DVDs? It's working, in large part, that is it's listed in My Computer as a DVD R/W drive, but when I put a DVD in there, nothing happens, and if I explore it, no files show up, nothing. I've tried a couple DVD movies, all same result.

Perhaps I need to download a DVD codec package? I did download the multimedia codec package Veks supplied, but I don't think that helps me really. I have both Windows Media Player, and VLC, neither seem to see the disc.

Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks.

Well this is their firmware page: http://sony.storagesupport.com/product/106#drivers

Thanks. I should have mentioned I was there yesterday and updated firmware, though that didn't seem to have any effect. I'll nose around there some more.

You might need to use the actual PowerDVD software provided by the manufacturer.
