Private Lucienne Cornelia Highglade

Role: Combat-engineer
Age: 24
From: The Mist Moors
Bio: Lucienne was born the daughter of a local huntsman in the central areas of the Mist Moors, a rare sight due to the thick fogs shrouding the area and the hard to maneuver terrain. Her mother he never spoke much of, she never played a big role of Lucienne's life, the only thing she had from her mother was her middle name, and the same silver hair and reddened eyes. her mother was from a rather wealthy family in the area that her father often sold hunted goods to. Her mother couldn't take care of Lucienne further than to make sure there was always some coin to spare should times be tough. She was already married, and had no desire of sharing her child with her current husband, desiring more for Lucienne's father to keep her, leaving her father to raise the young girl alone, her mother having excused it as a miscarriage to her husband.

Over her younger years, her father ended up teaching her to read and write, skills he barely had himself, in hopes that her mother's husband would eventually pass away so he could marry her. He didn't desire for his daughter to end up in the tough spot of being in a position where things were expected of her, without knowing how to do something as basic as read and write. Aside from that, he thought her how to hunt in the harsh conditions that the Mist Moors presented. While firearms were an option, her father thought her with a bow, believing firearms to taint the meat of the animals, not to mention that it'd scare away the rest, while a bow was silent and would do nothing worse than to produce a hole where it hit, as long as the arrows were properly cleaned between hunts.

Eventually, as the world started to stir up and there were more and more worrisome conditions to take to mind, using money saved up over the years, her father bought Lucienne a door into the Military academy of Valdyr. To see someone leave the Moors was a rare sight, but then again, was there anything that money couldn't buy?

The initial months were tough. While her body was well tuned, she was too light. She had good stamina, but lacked the raw strength that many of her fellow recruits had, many of which had been preparing for entering a high-quality military academy for their entire lives. Initially, she fell behind in the theoretical classes as well, but eventually, she started to turn around again. She had ended up in the engineering department as a suggestion from her father since it would likely both end up being economically stable, and be a relatively safe job compared to a lot of the alternatives. However, most of her competition for the top grades were two feet shorter than her and had beards longer than her hair. Her turn-around started with a change of mindset. She hadn't thought too much of it before, but she realized eventually that if she wanted to make something out of what her father had spent all his money on, she'd simply have to come out on top, in other words beating everyone else. Her physical condition got better over time, and while her actual body remained rather thin, more so than she would've prepared, her thresholds went significantly higher thanks to consistent training and a clear-set plan of where she wanted to go.

And in the end, she managed. Racial stigma stayed with her even on the graduation day though, being referred to as the first person over five foot to leave the academy with top scores in all of her engineering-classes.

After having graduated, she wound up traveling south, in the direction of the wastelands, in search of a reliable place to work. Eventually, she found her way to the city of Dorn, ending up in the R&D-facilities of the city's military unit, taking part in the occasional mission when someone with some military competence was required for engineer-jobs, which in most cases revolved around either creating controlled explosions, or keeping caravans running with minimal hold-ups. While she still preferred to be sat behind a desk drawing blueprints, she didn't mind the missions so much, and the action that came with it was a good reminder for the state the world was in, and how it really looked outside of an office.

Eventually, she got recruited for The Valkyries, having built a name for herself from when she graduated the military academy and up until the recruitment date, with her selling factors being that she was a good shot with anything from long-range rifles to handguns, reasonable in hand-to-hand, and an excellent combat engineer, an ability that could be coed with both keeping ships running when out of actions, and that she had the know-how to make use of limited resources to create impressive explosives, as well as how to disarm them.

Personality: Unlike the majority of the other parts of the Valkyries, Lucienne is a more by-the-book example of an ideal soldier. Emotionless without having completely lost her humanity, easily takes orders and as long as it isn't clear it'll end up with her head on a stake, she'd take the orders and just hope for the best, a mindset that makes her easy to deal with and has her consistently producing reliable results without having to worry about her personality kicking in to hurt orders.

When not on the field, she's of the silent type, especially so in group conversations. She dislikes taking sides and hence prefers to take a step back from discussions and the likes. As far as sexuality goes, she's rather sheltered. Having grown up in the middle of nowhere as a single child, the topic of sexuality is a rather abstract thing that easily cracks up her icy demeanor, leaving her shy and vulnerable.

MissFire - Obviously I've added a few setting details here.  Consider this a first draft, though, and anything you dislike is obviously gone.

Please consider the picture a placeholder - I've started drawing recently and quite fancy having a crack at drawing the character.

Selena tel'Asseri Heldath shi'Golaria

Role: Close combat specialist
Age: 127
From: Elven Homelands - Forest of Spirits
Bio:

The blade starts to hum
The other and my voice join
Deadly symphony

Prior to wetznite the Bladedancers were the guards of the Grand Debate, sworn protectors of that gathering of the most important and influential elves.  Each represented a settlement- one was the protector of the delegate from Florian, one the protector of Dissalir's envoy and so on - but in between debates they lived and trained at the debate hall, devoting themselves to weapon skills, dance, poetry and art.  For their job wasn't simply that of ceremonial bodyguard, they also served as maidservants for the delegates and experts on the often arcane protocol of the debate.  Each was fed and equipped by the settlement they represented and so had an idiosyncratic look - if one delegate liked red their Bladesinger would likely be clad in that colour, another who was more interested in drama than song would expect their Bladesinger to have focused his or her attention on that area.  While they were expected to be somewhat sexually available to their delegates it was also considered somewhat crass to take them up on that and it rarely happened.  Dalliances between the (mixed sex) Bladesingers weren't uncommon though.

Post wetznite...little has changed so far.  Their traditional weapons have been upgraded, tiny wetznite generators in the blade hilts turning their blades into whirring chainsaws and the bow being replaced with an accurate long range rifle.  But the core of their job remained unchanged, the elite warriors of the Elven race.  But there's now the wrong number of them.  As settlements fell to the Empire Bladesingers were left at the Grand Debate hall to defend delegates that would now never come.  When the Valkyries were being assembled it was simply common sense that the Elves would send one of those displaced warriors to join their ranks.

Selena doesn't remember the town of her birth, the previous Bladesinger had died and Elven oracles determined she was to be the next one so she was taken from there at a young age and brought up in the training camps and dormitories of the hall.  She trained hard, as was only expected, and duly protected three successive delegates over one hundred and thirty years from a largely non-existent threat - the Bladesingers role was considerably more ceremonial than a response to actual danger to the delegates.  She couldn't protect her home town though when it fell three years ago, located many days travel from the hall.  AFter intense deliberations, it was her that was chosen.

The various oaths she swore were transferred to the Valkyrie leadership with very few conflicts and she set off to rendezvous with them.

Personality:
Her life has been very sheltered in a lot of ways and she's profoundly unused to non-Elves and their hasty, unconsidered actions.  However, she's trained her whole life as a servant and is certainly not about to criticise her superiors, no matter how rash they seem.  She finds peace in knowing a hierarchy and will quickly and to the best of her ability do anything for the mission leader and, in practice, anyone who acts like they are above her in the chain of command - she's used to working within a strict hierarchy and will apply it unthinkingly to her new role.

With those she views as her peers though, she's open and friendly with an easy laugh and a ready smile.  She's a keen, and quite good, poet but insists her works don't really translate well out of the Elven language so rarely shares it.  She's also a decent singer and will regularly hum a melody around the two differently pitched whirs of her chainswords.  The chainswords themselves, like the rifle slung across her back, she cleans and maintains religiously.

I like them both! I am impressed by the amount of care and thought going into the characters. With that, then, I think our squad is set! I will begin making the topics tomorrow!

Actually I'm not scots, just making a point... *winks*

Dash, how tall is Ara? I think Dwarves tend to be in the 4'-4'6" (122 - 137 cm) range. Halflings are usually 2'6" - 3' (76 - 92 cm) range, but Nitzy is actually tall for her species at 3'3" (99 cm). If anyone calls her shorty, she takes it as a complement!

Yeah Halflings are shorter... Think Rana is average for a young dwarven lady... so let's say 125 ish?

I found Selena a melee weapon.

Anyway, I fired up the OOC topic since people want to chat. You'll find it in the Extreme section. This is because it's a game about war, so while there's not going to be graphic descriptions of people being exploded to hamburger, it's prooooooooooooobably too violent for 'Light' or whatever. So don't get thrown off. I'm just taking precautions!

Here!

It fits both roles! Anyway, this isn't the topic for chatter. Let's all head over to the OOC so we don't spam this.
