I'm in the mood for something with bawdy chainmail bikini aesthetic, magical wonder, and lighthearted swashbuckling action. With your help, I'd like to craft a high fantasy adventure story, following a lesbian cast through their meteoric rise from plucky nobodies to the women who will define their era.

For this particular project, I am only accepting female players.

This will be a freeform, GM-directed adventure built upon the desires, backgrounds, and actions of your characters. I'm looking for a small party of adventurers, say 4-6 in number, who don't mind a 50/50 mix of plot and smut (porn with story) and who can optimally post at least once a week. Players with an interest in collaborating on setting building, who can provide characters with themes and goals, are preferable. Since this is a sexy and lighthearted story, I'd like to keep personal tragedy to a minimum, and rule out mentally unstable characters.

Characters will be thrown together into a high stakes safari in the hot and humid jungle island of Eechus Minor, where you'll forge the bonds that will hold you together for the trials to come. Your quality and modest abilities (say "town hero" level, or 5th-7th D&D level) will be put to the test as you hunt the most dangerous game of all- dragon! Should you succeed, land and title await you in the sweet-scented orchards of Appleburg, a peaceful, prosperous domain, nestled safely between human and elvish lands.

Do not let rumors of war between your human and elvish neighbors shake your resolve. The Duchess' reasons for giving away the orchard are purely for sport, and unrelated to her prolonged and ongoing vacation far from the courts.

If this sounds good, post your interest! Tell me what you'd like to see! If we get enough interest, I'll continue to flesh out the setting, and put together a character sheet for you to fill out.

EbonyQueen

As I stated before, I am quite interested, so I am expressing said interest here. If you wish a sounding board, or any input on your own thoughts, you know where my PM box is Dhi, don't be afraid to use it!

This sounds like a lot of fun. ;D I was thinking my character would be an adorkable elven mage. Once there's a character sheet I'll submit the full idea for approval.

Count me in!

I bagsie the halfling thief! I need to know what sort of character pic you're after, because the one's I have found are either a little on the trivial side or not what I'm after...

Color me interested with a virgin warrior - either with an oriental samurai style or a kind of Valkyrie that's got enough orcish blood in her to her fearsome in battle and ferocious in the sack.

How is combat and such handled?

I hope I don't need any current system knowledge. One system I ever tried was AD&D - early 90s... And can' remember anything.

The aesthetic I'd like to go for is impractical and fetishy fantasy art. My own preference is for Korean or western art rather than anime, but I know everybody has different tastes and we won't be able to swing a unified look. Pictures of real people may be up against stiff competition from idealized fantasy women, but if you're up for the challenge, go for it!

Here are some examples of the sort of stuff that comes to mind for me:
Kingdom Death

Hung-Tae Kim

Korean MMOs

This will be freeform, so no system knowledge is necessary. Everything will be handled through writing. Since it can be hectic for 4-6 people to all try to describe how a fray is going down, what I may do is pick one person at a time to shine during action scenes. I would take a look at your abilities, introduce a challenge that seems tailored to one character, and ultimately that scene would spotlight that character while the rest are in a more supportive role.

For instance, say there's a firebird which you must capture to win the favor of a fey queen. If one character is especially good with bows, then the scene is largely about her attempt to graze the animal without killing it. The other characters may be flushing out the firebird, casting spells to hinder it, rescuing the elf maiden who became trapped behind burning forest, anything that is not in direct competition for the spotlight of that one encounter.

Sound sensible?

Chrystal

It sounds fine to me.

If we're not doing PvP, there's no real need for  combat to be "handled" as such, it's really just making sure that we each fight realistically against what Dhi throws at us.

This is a good thread to have a look at.

I have a number of options for a pic. So far this one is my favourite:

Or if she isn't quite sexy enough, this is my second favourite....

You mentioned a dragon? I( would like to suggest, possibly, that the dragon be female and looking for a nice warm incubator for her egg? Or at the very least that we perhaps don't have to kill the dragon without talking to her first?

Please check out my latest A/A post.
I would rather watch a movie then have dinner than have dinner then watch a movie!

Dhi

Some good points in that thread, although one thing we should probably avoid is realistic action, since platemail high heels and exposed midriffs could be a recipe for disaster there. Cheesecake fantasy is probably more the realm of grazing hits and pink scratches, bright flashes of swoon-causing magic, Gabrielle-style staff fighting and judo throws, and improvised bondage.

I love the halflings! I have no idea where to look for halfling character pictures, but those are some good ones.

For the dragon, I'm up for that. It depends also on where everyone else's tastes lie. Perhaps the egg laying serves as a distraction so the other characters, who might not be into oviposition, can spring a surprise. There will definitely be opportunity to talk and no killing will be required, since the tone won't be especially bloodthirsty.

Elzith

Hey there! I'd be very much interested in taking part, but before I hunt down pictures or anything like that, wanting to know if I'm a little late for the party or anything like that?

Chrystal

Oviposition is totally optional obviously... It's just something of a fetish of mine... OH BOY! Here's a three-foot high woman with a dragon shoving it's egg tube into her?

End result...

*chuckle*

By realistic I meant in terms of the context. Blinkin's original worry was people god-moding his GM controlled NPCs, auto-hitting, auto-dodging, and basically not playing fair, and thus spoiling the game.

The sort of thing I'm referring to here in terms of "realism" is if an intelligent plant has grabbed you, thinking you're a new species of insect and is trying to pollinate itself using you, it would be unrealistic to want to cut your way free without at least enjoying one orgasm?

*snigger*

Anyway, I like dragons. They are a much maligned species.

EbonyQueen

Totally "Dark Sorceress" Time for me I think! Mysterious, magical by her very nature she is a practitioner of Magics less studied and more innate. Her unique appearance is only augmented by her sometimes wise and sometimes mischievous personality. She tends towards wearing form-fitting leathers, with tall, heeled boots.

That would so totally not do it for me *shivers*... but to each their own.

In terms of character I was thinking along these lines:

Haven't done extensive searching for it - so my character it might change - but would that work for you?

You are not late! The interest check has only been up for a single Monday morning, so everybody here is an early bird. I'm just about to post a more fleshed out setting to help those interested decide what and whether they'd like to play. Later on, I'll post a character sheet template with some prompts that will help further define the setting. That way, we'll each be adding something, and hopefully you will feel free to add your own canon rather than tiptoe around mine.

These characters sound fantastic so far.

Dhi

Here are some setting ideas, submitted to inspire your own ideas. Don't feel obligated to tether your characters to one, although you're welcome to if you'd like!

The Regal East is where the free peoples are united and strongest. It is civilized, codified, and steeped in tradition. A small sampling of the realm includes:

The Griffonhearts of Crown Cape
Crowded to the sea cliff aeries where commerce flows is the center of human culture and history that is Crown Cape. The banners of Queen Osa Penhaligon fly as far as her griffon knights can soar in vigilant patrol of the realm's wildflower prairie and frothing rivers. The highly prized white breeds of griffon are traditionally available only to knighted ladies chaste to the touch of a man, but there are no stipulations for lesbian relationships. Courtly love is somewhat different as a result.

The Princess of Ravenwood
After decades of diminishing in isolation under the decree of an uncompromising elf king, a soft-hearted princess has taken the elvish crown of Ravenwood and pledged to mend estranged alliances. Many young elvish emissaries and explorers are leaving their quiet forest home for the first time, unprepared for the world beyond the pine and elk. Especially troublesome is the elven custom of showing good faith, in which an elf gives another power over her with the understanding that it will not be used. In foreign lands, it is often abused instead.

The Centaurs of the Steppes
Nomadic centaur tribes roam the East under the leadership of a shaman, warlord, or wise woman. When a young centaur comes of age within the tightly knit community, it's not unusual for her to rebel and follow her wanderlust to the horizons. Some may find the decadent pleasure of seedy human towns or the gentleness of an elven enclave preferable to her responsibilities to her tribe, while for others the instincts of a wild mare forever render her an outsider among the free peoples of the East.

The Liberated West has cast off the shackles of monarchy to stand on its own. It is an impoverished melting pot built atop old dwarven ruins. Among the sins of the commoners can be counted:

The Sisterhood of Deckard
The slum city of Deckard- a bastardization of its original dwarven name of Drukardek- fell into ruin after being abandoned by its dwarven colonists a hundred years ago. Out of poverty came a thriving sex trade, and simultaneously a strong sense of community. Combining social work and prostitution are the Sisters of Deckard, priestess-whores to the old dwarven gods who collect money for the poor in exchange for sexual favors. Because Deckard is poor, many Sisters are sent on pilgrimage beyond its crumbling walls, to ply their holy trade in neighboring cities.

Warbands of the Hrentanthanus Badlands
Out of the keeps abandoned by the dwarves, slavers and bandits lead short and brutish lives alongside goblins, gnolls, orcs, and worse. From one outpost a harpy witch lures travelers with her siren song, and from another a medusa crime lord petrifies rich ladies to be ransomed back to noble families. The savage, visceral way of life brings together unusual bedfellows, and for raiders it is not unusual for woman and monster- or even woman and beast- to become lovers under the stars.

Tomb Raiders of Hrundrukar
The old dwarven tombs of the mountains draw thieves from all corners of the world. The nimblest and luckiest are invited to join an elite network of spies and thieves dedicated to cracking the ancient riddles and deadly traps that keep ordinary robbers from the most glorious treasures of the ancient world. In this culture of limber minxes, competition is high, and skullduggery is commonplace- what better way to best a rival than to leave her cuffed to a bed in an inn a hundred miles from civilization? It goes without saying that the ability to pick locks is almost mandatory.

The Broken North is where the free peoples have met with overwhelming opposition, and their spirit has been crushed. Monstrous oppression is the norm for the people of the north. Some of the factions to which the free peoples have been enslaved are:

Courts of the Horned Ones
1,000 steps climb the crags to the pagodas of the horned ones, an ancient horned race with no greater motivation than to subjugate and dominate the free peoples. Here where their grand manors lie buffeted by winds, the horned ones raise obedient slaves from birth to death. Each of the horned ones brands its slaves differently- some wear tattoos, or obscene piercings, or become tainted by sorcery into forms of living ooze. Escape from the lofty crags is said to be impossible, and yet...

Cultists of the Cerulean Eye
The still cerulean waters of a lake surrounded by barren mountains serves as a reflection of a world not our own. Tentacled horrors become lured through the shimmering veil by the lake's cultists, and the worthy among them become hosts for creatures of unwholesome hunger. Some are tainted physically and take on the physiology of these squirming beasts, while others are touched spiritually, and inherit unnatural magic that yearns to make our world more like its cerulean reflection.

Harem of the Silver Lady
The power of a wish-granting efreet renders the Silver Lady absolute ruler of her domain in the North, a shining paradise for she and her favored. With each wish, the efreet has twisted the land into a barren, sandy waste, and warped its people. Endlessly, the Silver Lady lusts for purity untainted by her efreet, and most recently her passions have been ignited by the human queen Osa Penhaligon. Many spies have been sent into the East to help the Silver Lady woo the queen without efreet magic, and not surprisingly, some have found this new freedom preferable to ever returning to the harem.

The Lawless South is an untamed frontier where the free peoples colonize hostile climes. The land has never been tamed, life is rough, and it is faux pas to inquire about a frontier woman's past. Among those shaky lean-tos eked out of the wilds, these are not yet erased from the maps:

Pirates of Dread Iolcus
Amid the island chains of the south sea, in shallow reefs and wetlands where the Crown's navy cannot sail, traitors to the laws of the East brave the mosquito- and troll-infested frontier to avoid the gallows. For the last several years the Duchess of the Appleburg orchards has vacationed in a winter manor here, which seems poised to become her permanent home as she prepares to foist her former lands off onto a group of young adventurers.

Mists of the Shorn Mountain
Deep in the foggy crater of a forgotten volcano, past steep peaks traversable only by the most determined, lies a more primitive world of hunters and gatherers where the politics of queens are completely unknown. Beasts which should be extinct roam the crater, and the loincloth-clad sentient people live in fear of their primeval enemy. Fifteen years ago, an explorer from the outside world crash landed within the mists and shared his strange language and stranger stories with the peoples of the mists. For some, these stories were an obsession, and they disappeared from the mists, not to return home again.

Starry Courts of Chas Enial
Where the elves have diligently upheld the bargains of the ancient druids, the fey are a strong ally. Within the great forest of Chas Enial, pixie lights twinkle in the darkness and delicate wings flutter in the perpetual summer air. The unworthy might wander until their hair is gray, while the brave and the beautiful find themselves concubines of the Court of Stars, the elegant, inscrutable, and above all jealous nobility of a seelie people all but vanished from the world.

Tell me what you'd like to see!

Okay, so far I love the settings and I can see at least three or four possible affiliations for Nitzy (that's a working nick-name for her, not definite yet).

However, none of them really explain her origins in quite the way I'd like. I can see her being from the South, the West, or possibly the South West... And it is in this border region that I have an idea you might like...

On the fringes of the badlands, where they delve into the marshes, there is an abandoned fort. Once a powerful bastion of order, it has fallen into ruin and to the casual observer seems little more than a dilapidated shell. However, the unwary traveller, seeking shelter within the sagging walls would do well to sleep with one eye open and a hand on his purse.

For this is the hide-out of the most notorious band of thieves and ruffians in the world. They call themselves the three-footers. Their are fae of course, and a scattering of dwarves and gnomes, but the majority are the halfling folk...

What do you think? I can expand the history of how they came to be there, their organisation, and how they live, if you like the idea? Or I can leave it as a bare bones idea and let the GM flesh it out.

My reasoning is that you've mentioned every fantasy race except Halflings, and also while there are places where you wouldn't go and expect to come out with everything you went in with, there isn't anywhere that seems to cater to honest thievery...!

Please check out my latest A/A post.

I tried to leave it vague what constitutes the free peoples, so they might represent a mix of races. Something especially for halflings sure beats a vague thing that might include halflings, though! The Three Footers sound like a great idea and I'd like to hear more about them. Writing in halflings and gnomes has always been a weakness for me.

Are either of these okay? I was thinking either...

Imari, a thief that fled the Harem of The Silver Lady that took shelter in the West. She talks only in the third person, has a habit of answering questions with questions, and is the quirky kind of character that makes the group question both her sanity and usefulness - but is loyal to the end and will stick her neck out for those that she deems a friend. She possesses two enchanted daggers; Star and Moon. One glows when treasure is near, one glows when danger is near. Trouble is, they glow the same color and look identical. Only Imari can tell which is which and even then, you're not sure you believe her half the time!
Imari

Or...

Emeryn, a woman practicing the forbidden art of 'Alchemy'. She mixes magic with poison craft and potion brewing to create concoctions that can help or hinder. What medical science can't find a cure for, she can eliminate (or make it worse). The combination of magic and science is taboo and even in the lawless South where she resides, people don't really take kindly to her setting up shop for too long. She travels from place to place, residing mostly in the wagon she keeps hitched to her horse (which, if it's allowed, should totally be mechanical!).
Emeryn

The Three Footers sound like a great idea and I'd like to hear more about them. Writing in halflings and gnomes has always been a weakness for me.

I will give this some thought. I'm sure the free peoples would include halflings, most likely living in their own villages near to human and elvish settlements. They would generally not live in the same towns although they would most likely trade with them, mostly because they would have difficulty climbing onto chairs, eating at tables and getting served in bars... Equally, humans would have bad backs, sore knees and bruised heads if they lived amongst halflings.

The idea of the Three Footers is that they are, as I said, the worst bunch of cut-purses, brigands and thieves anywhere in the land, and not one of them is over 3' tall! This gives a wonderful irony, I feel. The abandoned fortress is filled with tunnels and passageways that only the small can fit down. Any traveller who happens to stop there will find the place apparently deserted. But anything they put down, unless they keep an eye on it, will simply vanish. Not by magic, but by sleight of hand.

If the traveller sleeps, they will find any possessions they may have had nearby or attached loosely to their clothing will be gone when they wake. If they sleep soundly enough, they may find their clothing is gone also!

If you want a history, as in who founded the Three Footers, when and why, how they found the fort, how they recruit new members, I will have to work on that tomorrow. Some of it will be intricately bound up with my character's history, too.

Name: Duchess Loveday Ellis
Species: Human
Concept: Noblewoman turned rugged pioneer
Ons: Dominance, the sweltering jungle, wearing the cape, proving that a scribe's deftness still lies at her fingertips
Offs: Being coddled for her injury, prissy girls

Physical Description: A hard-bodied and fierce woman, Loveday scarcely resembles the courtly maiden of twenty years prior. Her cropped blonde hair becomes wet and slick in the humidity of the Lawless South, and the oppressive, sticky heat has awakened a steely-eyed lioness within a woman entering middle age. Loveday dresses to let the sweat of the South roll off her top-heavy body, with nearly nothing to soak into. The single flair of a lovely crimson cape conceals the scar at her shoulder from an old wound, which she takes more care to conceal than any other privacy of her body.

Personality: Cocksure confidence marks Loveday as an adventurer who found her calling late in life, possessing all the bravery of a fledgeling half her age and none of the caution of experience. Her quick shifts into sentimentality and enduring tastes for the elegant and feminine betray her history as a lady of the courts, and so Loveday covers for these perceived weaknesses with a hardened exterior. Although this renders her taciturn in person, in her letters she is a different person, flowery and poetic, steeped in the vocabulary of young love.

History: Loveday was born into minor nobility in Crown Cape, and groomed in her formative years to become a refined lady and obedient wife. Little was expected of her except to marry into a wealthy family and bring prestige to her family. Instead, Loveday was wooed by a hot-blooded young Griffonheart named Monica Ellis and became the blushing bride of a lady knight. They were wed at seventeen.

Though they were passionate and happy, Monica felt the sting of Loveday's spurned family and swore an oath to bring wealth and glory to their marriage. While Loveday returned to the courts as a well-paid scribe, Monica banded with a party of adventurers for an expedition into the Broken North. The long and intimate letters Loveday received from that expedition provided much of the narrative of what is now known about the North and its perils; although initially those letters were published sans filth, uncensored printings have since surfaced in all of their sordid imagery. But at age twenty, Monica was wounded when a rebel attack dealt an injury to her right shoulder which would end her career as a scribe.

Loveday retired from the courtly life and bought an orchard estate in the country, where she might garden and live simply, surrounded by beauty. When the letters ceased and Monica did not return, it was decided that the lady knight had perished. For her service to Crown Cape and in honor of her fallen knight, Loveday was given domain over this small land. For seventeen years she made Appleburg a labor of love, developing its orchards into a sea of pink and white blooming trees, its manor into a majestic walled keep, its lonesome yard into a villa of several dozen permanent residents. For seasonal labor, Loveday employed several hundred workers from the Liberated West.

But in recent years, the Lawless South has posed a seductive allure to Loveday, and she has increasingly shunted responsibility for the orchard's upkeep to its steward, Ines Liddicoat, in order to pursue new adventures deep in the unpleasant wetlands. Now, as she prepares to make this distant land her new home, Loveday has announced a contest to award one lucky party of adventurers the whole of Appleburg. The final stage of this contest, true to Loveday's new lust for excitement, is a safari to hunt the dragon of Eechus Minor.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? Loveday is a fit, strong woman, having worked for seventeen years tending the orchard. She has connections within the nobility of Crown Cape, and a peerage which grants her special privileges in court. Lastly, she is a skilled hunter, able to track large and intelligent prey through the wilderness without giving herself away.
In what way might you hinder an adventuring party? Loveday's bravery is unwarranted, as she has little actual combat experience and an old shoulder wound which limits her mobility and fine manipulation

Dhi

MissFire, I think I prefer your Emeryn and priestess ideas to Imari. Although a Harem character does sound fun, as you put it, her quirky behaviors may put her at odds with the group. We should also consider at least a little bit of niche protection... Chrystal seems to be cooking up a thief, and although two different magic-using characters can certainly be diverse, and two fighter types could be sufficiently different, it is harder to distinguish two different thieves.

By complete coincidence, the priestess picture you linked was on the very short list of the pictures I was going to post for cheesecake art examples. Yours is way higher quality than the one I had though!

Name: Elisse Renault Parfait LeFaire
Species: Human
Concept: A Priestess with a passion for setting right what went wrong, though a bit in over her head on her first adventure.
Ons: Being submissive to strong women, kissing, soft beds, a relaxing bath
Offs: Grime and dirt, bondage, rude manners

Physical Description: Absolutely stunning. No more really need be said, for once one lays eyes on Elisse they now know the definition of 'stunning' was meant for her and her alone. Blonde hair falls in waves to her lower back and frames an angelic face, showcasing soft lips and the brightest blue eyes one has ever, will ever see. Her body is equal parts slender and curvy, a perfect mix of both. There is a delicious balance between tone and plumpness in her that is rarely seen elsewhere. She obviously keeps in shape, but a slightly sedentary lifestyle in Crown Cape has given her that bit of plumpness in places where greedy hands most want to grab. Should one strip her bare, one would not find a single hair on her body; just smooth, sweet-scented, soft skin.

Personality: It would be easy to dismiss her as 'prissy', with the disgusted way she reacts to things outside of the regal East where she has lived much of her life. Yet within her burns a determination and passion that is seldom matched in her homeland. Elisse will put up with almost anything, so long as she knows that she is being of use to someone and fighting for the greater good. She will eventually learn to tolerate life on the road, but that journey will be a long one. To those she considers allies, Elisse will never turn her back and will stand, unwavering, in the face of danger for them.

History: Elisse Renault Parfait LeFaire IV, born to a wealthy family in Crown Cape, was always destined for something greater than to simply be arm candy. While not the first noble girl to be disgusted at the prospect of only being 'useful' to her family as someone to carry on the name by having children, she is one of the few that actually did something about it. Elisse joined The Daughters of Hope, a magic school dedicated both to spreading the teachings of The Goddess and arming young girls with the gift of White Magic. A true beacon of good amongst the over-stuffed nobility in Crown Cape, the school filled Elisse with a thirst for aiding those in need.

Plus, it kept her father off her back.

So, while her quest was not truly selfless, it did truly make Elisse feel good to help others. Unfortunately, her father intended to marry Elisse off without informing her. Determined to have an heir, Elisse's father betrothed her to a young ponce by the name of Fredrich fon Ronchenbaum, only son of a wealthy merchant. Upon finding out about this, Elisse fled the city. A win for the young mage, she figured, since she could do more good out in the world than staying cooped up inside the walls of Crown Cape. She travels on her own now, searching for people to aid.

Her father, however, will not give up so easily.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? A plethora of potent White Magic, a good moral compass, and a wonderful cook.
In what way might you hinder an adventuring party? Her father's men may be in pursuit.

So, I decided to go with a human rather than an elf, but my character is ready and I am eager for feedback. ;D

Name: Mira Ishikawa
Species: Human
Concept: Studious and kind mage who controls fire and ice
Ons: Magic, books of all sorts, being submissive
Offs: Cruelty, willful ignorance

Physical Description: Mira is a very cute young woman with an unassuming manner. She has short black hair, pale skin, and dark brown eyes. Her form is not athletic, but she does not lack in appealing curves. She is rarely found without her staff and magic reference book.

Personality: Though she is a little timid at times, Mira has a strong desire to see the world and to help those in need. She dislikes violence, but is willing to use it to stop injustice. She loves reading and has a general understanding on a wide range of topics. She can be overly exuberant when it comes to magic and academic pursuits. Though she knows that magic can be abused, Mira believes it to be the key to a better future for everyone.

Someday she hopes to amass a fortune that she can use to build a great library, for the benefit of all the civilized races of the world. She also has a desire to teach apprentice mages, especially aspirants too poor to easily afford instruction.

History: Mira Ishikawa was born in the city of Deckard to an immigrant family. Her parents Kazuhiro and Hanako, as well as her decade-older brother Daisuke, fled a famine in the Far Eastern land of Nihon. Despite living in relative poverty, Mira had a mostly happy childhood. From the first time she saw a spell cast, she was fascinated with magic. At the age of twelve she apprenticed herself to an elderly but boisterous dwarven wizard named Argrim the Younger, who was willing to instruct her in exchange for preparing his meals, cleaning, and the like.

The aspiring mage was sixteen when—after countless hours of painstaking study—she finished constructing and enchanting her staff and began casting spells. Skilled with both fire and ice spells, she used the latter to start a moderately successful home ice delivery service.

While Mira was enjoying a stable path in life, her brother was not so fortunate. Only a year after his little sister was born, Daisuke fell in with a local criminal gang as an errand boy. His parents tried everything they could to dissuade him from keeping such company, but this only pushed him away. Over the years he became greedy and ruthless, and willing to murder to advance in his organization.

Mira had always felt close to her highly protective older brother, but the mounting evidence of his corruption broke her heart. All her pleading with him fell on deaf ears. Though she still cared for him greatly, Mira ultimately chose to cut him out of her life. Daisuke, estranged from his parents, did not want to lose Mira as well. He offered to pay for her to receive tutelage from the best wizards in the land. He also tried to introduce her to his associates, in order to convince her that they were not so bad.

Ultimately the young mage, who had been feeling wanderlust and wanted to get away from her brother, decided to become an adventurer. She said goodbye to her parents and mentor and promised to drop by when she could. Having recently turned twenty, Mira has been away from home for two years—though she has made a couple of brief visits. She has not seen her brother since her initial departure.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? Mira’s magic is the most important skill she can contribute to a party. She also knows non-magical first aid and keeps a kit of supplies handy. Finally, she is competent at melee fighting with her staff, though her prowess is nothing to write home about.

Magic: Mira can conjure little bursts of fire and chunks of spiked ice that she shoots at will from her staff at enemies. She can also summon fire and ice in safer forms. She can drastically alter the temperatures of objects. She is very good at identifying spells cast by sight and at analyzing magical items or effects. She can also counter-spell weaker mages to make their magic fizzle out.

In what way might you hinder an adventuring party? The only magic Mira can work without her staff in hand is the construction of a replacement staff, which takes a week’s time and requires expensive materials. Thankfully, her staff has a supernatural resistance to damage that is difficult to overcome.

Mira’s brother has rivals who might wish to use threats to Mira or her parents against him.

Name: Anitsha "Nitzy" Longstride
Species: Halfling
Concept: Cynical kleptomaniac, with a demagnetized moral compass!
Ons: Getting away with it, being tied up, tying others up, spanking, being spanked, shiny stuffs!
Offs: Snakes, spiders, her parents, small spaces, humans treating her like a child, being called 'Nit', remarks about her height.

Physical Description: First and most noticeable, she is a massive 3'3" tall.  With short red hair often cut off scruffily with a dagger, and tied back out of her eyes. She has large bare flat feet with thick soles and never wears boots. Her eyes are a piercing bright blue. Her gaze constantly flickers from spot to spot, face to face, and she will rarely meet your eyes for more than a moment. If she does, though, it will be more than likely you who looks away first!

Personality:  Nitzy is the sort of person that unless she wants you to, you won't even notice her. She isn't shy, so much as quiet and observant. She can sit motionless for hours on end, and people will simply forget she is there in the corner. But when she is amongst friends, she can be boisterous, raucous, and excitable. She has incurably itchy fingers, and while not the most accomplished thief in the world, she can usually steal what she has in mind to steal. Unless she wants to get caught, that is... Sometimes, she does! Nitzy is very sensitive about her height. Calling her "longshanks" or "beenpole", or asking her what the weather is like up there will likely earn you a broken nose! She can't help being tall (for a halfling).

History: Nitzy was (as were most people) born. Her father was Gatho Longstride, her mother Mirrelli Flatbottom. (The Flatbottom name derives from an area of land originally settled by halflings, which was surrounded on all sides by steep cliffs in a mountainous region, but had a flat bottom. It has nothing whatever to do with how much Mirrelli enjoyed being spanked). Gatho had joined the Three Footers when he was a youth, and had risen through their ranks to steal himself a place on the council. He had also stolen the heart of the daughter of the council chief, which didn't exactly help his cause, until he presented Mirrelli's father with a suitable dowery.

And so Anitsha was born in Yard-Hold, raised to be a thief, taught the arts of stealth, light-fingeredness, how to judge the value of an item, whether it is worth stealing, how to pick locks, open latches, even some rudimentary magic to enable her to spot warding and alarm spells. However as she neared maturity, there were those amongst the Three Footers who said she had been raised too far... Rumours of elvish taint in her father's blood-line were unfounded. The longstrides had always been tall and slender. The tallest on record, Cherry "Picker" longstride, had been almost 4' tall. This, however, did not help Nitzy when she began having to duck to enter people's homes, and was teased at school.

Developing claustrophobia, arachnophobia and ophidiophobia was a major problem. Yard-Hold was full of tiny tunnels, that the Three Footers used to conceal their presence and rob the few unwary souls who ventured there. It was also very generously populated with spiders, ranging from the minute, to those almost a foot across. And being on the edge of the swamps meant that there was a large snake population. Nitzy left Yard-Hold after an unfortunate incident with a leading member of the Eight-Footers and the son of a prominent member of the No-Footers in one of the crawl-ways that she prefers not to talk about.

Since her banishment, she has wandered the free lands, making a living for herself as she can.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? Nitzy can effectively "vanish", hiding in plane sight. People just forget she is there. This makes her an excellent spy. She can pick pockets, cut purses, pick locks, slide through small spaces (although she prefers not to). She is also quick witted and can talk her way out of most things.
In what way might you hinder an adventuring party? If anything goes missing, you know where to look for it! Nitzy saw you drop it (or about to drop it) and was keeping it safe for you. Nooooo, you purse was empty when she found it. She's certain that those daggers had never had any precious stones set in the handles, at least, not as long as she's known you to carry them... She also has an understandable longing to buy her way back into the people she was banished from.

Elzith

Name: Riverdance
Species:Human
Concept:Slightly feral Amazonian with little understanding of the outside world
Ons: Usually dominant unless 'bested' in some form, as to when she'll quickly become the 'beta' with little complains. Loves soft things, pretty and petite women; those to show her some sort of affection will quickly worm their way into her heart.
Offs: Treated as stupid, rather than uneducated. People wandering onto 'her' territory, whether that be a room, some baggage or someone she's mated with.

Physical Description: A tall, powerful woman just about dipping over the 6 ft mark, River has the body one would expect from a life of outdoor hardship. Her shoulders and arms rippling with muscle, there's very little fat on her. Yet soft in all the right places, such as breasts and bottom, she lacks the true physical power of a knight or traditional solider, she's much more slender and graceful, rather than brutal and rough as one might imagine. Very often wearing nothing more than a loincloth and strip of fabric to cover her breasts, one would most likely not describe River as 'civilised'. Her belly covered in scars that could resemble a set of fiendishly sharp claws, her body is anything but 'unblemished'

Personality: River is insatiably curious. Whilst she can't read or write, she finds the idea of books and scrolls down right fascinating, often badgering people to read her short extracts time and time again, perhaps like a small child. On the outside she's aggressive, dominant and rather suspicious of other races other than human, though eventually this will turn to interest rather quickly. Yet inside she's just the same as most other humans, trying to make her way through an unforgiving life and perhaps find some happiness along the way, though she has very little concept of sexuality and romance due to her isolation, River still finds herself and her body drawn to those of the gentler sex.

History: High on the peaks of the Shorn Mountain, her parents may still live, yet this is an alien concept to the young wanderer. Having been taken out on a hunting expedition when she was barely big enough to talk, her memories are still hazy and unclear from this time of her life. She was too young to be taken into the jungle but food was scarce and soon some of the more nasty creatures would be waking up from their hibernation. The village sending out everyone they had, River's curiosity got the better of her. Seeing a small purple flower she was instantly drawn to it and was soon tottering off to see exactly what it was and in the meantime, lose the path. Whilst the other members of her part were soon hunting for her long into the night, the combination of mist and thick jungle soon let this become a fruitless gesture. Sure she was dead, they returned back empty handed and with grief laden hearts.

Yet River survived her first night out in the jungle, having hidden herself in a hollowed out tree due to the panic and fear she was under and the comfort something small and snug offered up. Come morning she was soon wandering around the forest calling for her mother, but it was not her parents that headed her call. Instead a towering monstrosity of some form of big cat was to wander in on her. Something like a panther, it was easily twice as big and with the power to match. Having just lost its cub to hunters, it was vengeful and angry. But stumbling upon the crying child struck at something deep in its heart. When its jaws finally closed around the young girls throat, it was to carry her by the scruff of its neck and bring her home. Living off of the animals milk until she was strong enough to walk properly, River was soon learning the ways of the forest and how to survive through her adoptive mother. One day however, her 18th birthday to be exact, she'd awoken to find her carer gone and the cave from which she dwelt empty of traces. Rather than searching however, she embraced this new found freedom to explore the world, gathering her spear and heading down the peaks and into civilised land, attracting scorn and fear from many, yet kindness from a small few, she was picked up by a pirate ship as an extra hand, even though she could barely talk. A year of raiding and pillaging eventually led the navy to catch up with them and butcher her crew members, though for some reason she was spared. (Can put more down here, but thought it was getting a little long..)

Captured and taken back to Crown Cape as an oddity to be 'studied' and laughed at, the once proud Amazonian soon found herself forced off of the gangplank and into a strange new world.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? Physical prowess, the confidence of one that has no understanding of death, as well as an attraction to the wild and the beasts that live within.
In what way might you hinder an adventuring party? Her aggression and anger can quickly get the better of her, coupled with her inability to read and write; she'll make no sense of maps and books until taught.

The Three Footers and Yard-Hold

The fortress was built many years ago, by some forgotten kingdom that once held sway over the land. It was clearly an outpost, built in an attempt to bring the rule of whatever laws that power recognised to the wilder lands of the South and West. It may even have been that those lands were not, perhaps, always quite so wild. Regardless, the fortress was built, no one knows by whom, nor even when. Many of the magics used in its construction now lost to the Free Peoples.

The fortress clearly saw action, as the fire-blackening to it's brickwork and the massive breach in the walls clearly attest. This may have been the reason it was abandoned, no-one knows. For many years the fortress lay undisturbed and was slowly reclaimed by the steadily encroaching marshes.

Rumour has it (and when it comes to the Three Footers, rumour is about all there is!) that a halfling prince named Jomar Ringleg, down on his luck and pursued from place to place, fell in with a small party of dwarves, on a quest to steal gold from one of the elven princes. The dwarves were all captured and slain, but Jomar escaped, so the story goes, with anything from a small fortune to almost the entire Elven treasury, depending upon who is telling the story. A few weeks later, so the story goes, Jomar arrives in Deckard, and begins spreading rumours of a lost castle away to the south that is filled with treasure. He claims to have been there himself and produces some gold and gems to prove his story.

Most disbelieve him, but according to the story, a small party of elves set out to seek this ruined fortress. None are ever seen again.

In the mean time, so we are led to believe, Jomar Ringleg has attracted to himself a band of the shortest adventurers going. Most are hard luck cases, many actual criminals, none is over three foot tall. And so, with his new band of followers, the Halfling Prince sets out for the castle.  None of those who leave with him return, at least not openly, and the story quickly becomes just that, a story. But crime begins to spread across the land. Thefts carried out in ways no-one would imagine, mysterious disappearances of items. Even people, dwarves and halflings of good character, would sometimes simply vanish.

And rumours began to spread of the mysterious Three Footers in their abandoned castle.

Of course various armed bands would come to raid the abandoned fortress, but all they ever found was a snake and spider infested ruin, slowly sinking into the swamp. Individuals or smaller parties left behind to guard the place would, however, find their supplies, weapons, gold, animals and even their clothes would mysteriously go missing. This would, of course, make them search again, but no matter how they tried, they would never find any trace.

Those that persisted and refused to leave... well, the swamp is a dangerous place...

The fortress is riddled with tunnels, both under the floors and inside what remains of the walls. The halflings and dwarves of the Three Footers have made them bigger and more extensive, installing new entrances, cunningly disguised and warded with dwarvish magics. Many of the tunnels are only accessible by the halflings, and the dwarves thus remain generally as their servants. The Three Footers are ruled by a Council of Thieves. Membership of the council is generally achieved in much the same way as captaincy of a pirate vessel - one must earn the respect of enough of one's fellows to acquire the fear of the rest.

The castle of Yard-Hold (called that as an ironic joke by the Three footers themselves) is their base, but they send agents all across the land. They will steal, rob and burgle not only for themselves, but also for others, for a price, for any bold enough to try and contact them. Their agents are often well respected members of halfling communities within the major cities of the Free peoples. Well respected, obviously being a relative term. These agents will spend the wealth stolen from others to buy necessities such as food and clothing that could not otherwise be acquired in sufficient quantity.

There are two other communities living in the fort alongside the Three Footers. These are known to the halflings as the Eight Footers and the No Footers. The spiders and the snakes were in an almost permanent state of war until the halflings arrived. These curious interlopers at first looked to provide food for both warring species, but to the surprise of both, the newcomers quickly made it plane that they would not tolerate such aggression and that their retaliation was merciless. The spiders and snakes tried to band together for the first time ever, but  even allied they could not defeat the halflings.

And so an uneasy truce has existed between the three groups for several generations. Incidents like the unfortunate one involving Nitzy Longstride are rare but do happen. When they do the culprit or culprits are usually dealt with swiftly and the incident is never mentioned again by any of the three groups...

Nitzie would probably go for that... although she'll be the only one getting dressed again afterwards, because... Um... Well I'm sure I don't know where you put your bra, Mira. Whjat do you mean you were wearing clothes when you started bathing us, Elisse? That seems awfully foolish to me. Well it's hardly my fault if you two can't remember where you put things, is it? Now if you will excuse me, I have a date with my fence...-ing instructor...

Just out of interest, is there some anti-eldarin prejudice in this group? Personally I can't stand the pointy-eared creeps, always acting all holier than thou and "we were here first", living for ever and all that crap...

Okay, just kidding... but I can't help but notice that Nitzie is the only non-human. (By the way, a halfling qualifies as "human" for the purposes of forum selection, it just depends what else we're likely to end up getting raped by... *whistles innocently*

EbonyQueen

Name: Maya
Species: Human
Concept: One from far away lands who uses hands and feet instead of steel and shield
Ons: Respect, Tenderness, Kindness, Romantic Gestures
Offs: Self-Centerdness, Rudeness, Overbearing Egos

Physical Description: Athletic and tall possessing a rich caramel colored skin. She moves with a well-trained grace every step measured, calculated and considered before being taken. She favors tight-fitting garments that allow for maximum movement. Long hair which is jet black cascades from the back of her head, usually held from Maya's face by a brightly-colored headband. Bright green eyes offer an intense and almost soul-revealing stare when they fall on someone.

Personality: Calm, cool and collected. It seems that very little can shake Maya's well-trained calm. She is, however friend and affable, allowing her to mingle relatively freely through the foreign cultures she often finds herself in. At times she likes to appear 'adorably unaware' of social taboos and customs though tends to thoroughly apologize for any transgressions. Those who know her are aware that it is mostly a ruse to allow her to 'appear' harmless. Maya always tends to favor conflict resolution through diplomacy, though if pushed into conflict she aims to end the fight quickly and absolutely. The shift from 'harmless tourist' to 'tigress of feet and claw' is quick, and surprising to most who only see her as a harmless.

History: The Temple of the Sky Claw is hidden deep within far away jungles. The stone structure of the peaked roof could be seen above the treeline where one to climb high enough. It has been for generations that the most talent women from the surrounding villages was sent to train there at an early age. Most of the time to return to their villages and act as a protector or adviser. At the age of eight potential students are brought to a shrine at the base of the temple, one by one each places their hands on a touchstone. When one who is capable of learning the teaching offers an arc of lightning bolts from the hands placed on the touchstone to the giant sapphires that are the eyes of a towering tiger-woman.

Maya was one of those who succeeded. Her training began with intense study learning language, writing, philosophy along with some principals of magic. However the most important course of study was the art of combat. Women were taught to use their hands and feet to be just as effective as a sword and a shield. They were taught how to fight armed opponents, how to fight opponents with armor, even how to fight creatures. Some basic magic is taught as well, how to harness and unleash bolts of lightning from one's hands. Though mastering -that- ability takes even more years of self-study and reflection. Maya studied and studied hard quickly becoming a gifted student, and expert practitioner. However, she lagged behind in magical ability, only able to conjure a blast of lightning with great effort.

It was her promise coupled with the fact that Maya seemed unable to grasp the techniques that the three school Mistresses decreed that to finish her training, to become a true 'Master' of the Sky Claw she had to travel the lands, to learn what it was to not live in the small cluster of protected villages, and to gain insight in the world beyond the cloaking canopy of the thick treeline. Maya obeyed the decree of the Mistresses, and sat out that very day into the world beyond.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? Maya can fight with feet and hands extremely well. She does not need nor does she use a weapon it gives her a unique and effective means of combat. Maya is also an adept negotiator, and can often act as a diplomat, or negotiate if needed. She also has 'clarity of thought' often when things are stressful, or there is much going on Maya can keep her head and notice small things, and continue to make good decisions.
In what way might you hinder an adventuring party? Keeping the secret of where she is from is very important. The small cluster of villages along with the Sky Temple itself are meant to be hidden to the outside world. Beyond that she has a strict code of honor she has been trained to adhere to.

Mira, though not religious, knows that in the name of tolerance and understanding she must get naked with two beautiful women respect this custom. O:)

QuoteNitzie would probably go for that... although she'll be the only one getting dressed again afterwards, because... Um... Well I'm sure I don't know where you put your bra, Mira.

Silly Nitzy, no one would invent a bra in a land full of women with gravity-defying fantasy art breasts. Well, maybe as a fashion accessory. ;) I'm just glad Mira's staff is taller than our halfling, I can't imagine it would be easy for her to steal.

Now, if I can just stop starting at Maya's picture long enough to post... ;D

*giggles* I was of course referring to those two metal goblets that Mira's boobs are jammed into quite uncomfortably, and she should be quite relieved to be out of... I imagine they were quite expensive? Probably fetch a good price ... uh, if you .. uh... ever sold them, that is...

These characters are awesome, I can't lie. The guild of the Three Footers is a great touch, and I'm imagining intelligent spiders and snakes for the Eight Foots and No Foots, sort of like a David the Gnome or Mouse Guard world that the taller races might not even be aware exists.

For the rest of you I have some world building questions! There are no wrong answers.

MissFire:
Can you tell us about the Goddess and what White Magic can accomplish? What kind of controversies have sullied the Daughters of Hope in the past?
What sort of cuisine would Crown Cape's accomplished cooks be known for?

Joslyn:
What has happened to the knowledge of the world that a great library is now needed? Is there a lost repository of knowledge somewhere?
Is Nihon reached by land or is it separated by a sea?

Elzith:
You mention that River doesn't fully understand death. What kind of beliefs do the people of the Shorn Mountain have?
How did River end up on the island where the safari takes place, and did she go willingly or unwillingly?

EbonyQueen:
What are a few lessons will Maya will need to learn from the outside world before the Mistresses will accept her as a Sky Claw Master?
Who are the enemies that the Masters protect the temple against?

I would say, "self aware" spiders and snakes, rather than actually "intelligent". To use the scientific terms, "Sentient" rather than "Sapient". There is a subtle difference. As I've never come across either of those I would have to say "pass", but the last part of what you say is basically it, yes.

Spiders and Snakes that do know how to communicate (as do dogs and cats, it's just no-one ever bothers to listen to them) , and were rather surprised when the halflings chose to communicate with them. I think that the whole business of being only 33" tall your entire life makes you far more ready to be quiet and listen, it also makes you a lot more vulnerable to creatures that to a human or elf are little more than a nuisance. It therefore pays the smaller races, the halflings, gnomes and dwarves, to learn the speech of lesser creatures, to negotiate with them. As you say, Dhi, a world that the taller races do not realise exists.

Oh and if anyone wants to really piss Ntzy off, just say "Aren't you a little tall for a halfling...?" *snigger*

The Goddess is, as Elisse and others of her religion believe, the creator of the world and creator of all of the races that walk upon it. As such, it preaches tolerance for others no matter the race or station in life, and that to do good deeds is to repay Her for Her kindness in creating us. Yet it also preaches forgiveness for those that are wicked, as they too are created by Her design. Without darkness and evil, there is no measure for what is Light or Good, and so evil, while not something one should pursue, is a natural part of the world and exists so that we might know what true good is. She also teaches that the female form is beautiful and should be adored. The worship of the Goddess and the Daughters of Hope have waned in the past few years, however, because of it's stance on evil and wrongdoing. Other religions which punish instead of forgive have become steadily more popular.

As far as Elisse's cooking... since Crown Cape is by the sea I'd say she could do wonders with any kind of fish, she's probably not bad with meat, either, though she eats fairly light so she probably has less expertise there. She eats a lot of greens, so she might even be able to identify edible plants in the wild. At least a few that she's seen before.

Her magic will probably be a selection of somewhat typical White Mage spells; exterminating the undead, a defensive shield spell, spells to cure poison, a healing spell, a spell that creates an orb of light to see within dark caves or other areas, perhaps a single offensive spell so she's not useless in battle.. I'd imagine that to balance things out, all but her easiest spells require either components or a short incantation so it'll take time to cast. Perhaps her healing spell requires a 'hands-on' approach as well? Hmm!

Elzith:
You mention that River doesn't fully understand death. What kind of beliefs do the people of the Shorn Mountain have?
How did River end up on the island where the safari takes place, and did she go willingly or unwillingly?

The shorn(ers? ians? Not sure either of those sounds right) very much believe in spirits, ancestors. The sort of tribal religions that seem so prominent in the very isolated corners of the world. They worship the Goddess Hyona, though indirectly. Rather than believe she requires constant obedience, their deity takes very little prominence in their lives, instead it's mainly focused on the spirits of their forefathers. When someone dies they're not buried or cremated, instead their taken to a secluded valley and simply left for the animals and for nature to do its duty, so the souls of the departed can return to the earth. Those that did something considerably good, or perhaps evil, gather Hyona's attention and rather than becoming part of everything else, they become a part of her in the form of spirits. These spirits then ensure that even through the thick canopy, plants and animals can go an thrive. They're also what's responsible for ensuring that the beasts that should of been dead so many years ago carry on. Because of this, some animals are off limits to the hunters, unless under the most dire of circumstances; killing in self defence is okay, but eating is not. Yet these spirits of course need sustenance, so the people pray to them to offer their worship up as a form of energy. Or so they think, anyway. Though overall, religion is quite lax and the mountain dwellers are allowed to believe as they like; there are no priests or holy men.

As for River, she does not understand why death is bad. She was not old enough to be taught what her parents held to, so she has no inclination about her own beliefs at all. Or those of her people anyway. But since she's never had anyone close enough to lose, she does not yet get why death is 'bad'

For the second part, River escaped her bonds soon after the Navy commander poked her down and back onto dry land. Fortunately, she'd been greatly underestimated through her rather coarse appearance and for some reason treated like a dog. So when she was told to 'stay' she did not exactly abide by it, instead running off almost instantly. Whilst a guard had been posted, he was a little busy staring at her bottom to grab her quickly enough. From there, it was a matter of scaling a drainpipe with bound hands, before dashing through one ally and into the next, causing quite the panic. Well used to the requirements of stealth, she simply waited till nightfall and slipped aboard another ship, though this one bound for the island. When she was eventually discovered, still tied up, up in the crows nest, the captain thought she'd be a worthy addition to the competition.

ElvenKitten

Name: Violet Autumn
Species: Human
Concept: Wandering high class mercenary who uses both swords and sorcery
Ons: Being tied up, tea, the finer things, the wives and daughters of nobles, being spanked. Switch
Offs: Unrefined behaviour, her own blood, gnomes!, things that belong in the privy.

Physical Description: 5'3 and slender with dark hair pale skin and blue eyes. Moves with the practiced grace of a dancer though her form of dance is ill suited to a ballroom. If she would let her hair grow a little longer and she wear more courtly attire she might well be confused for a noblewoman and her mannerisms denote some training in courtly etiquette.

Personality: Courteous at all times and usually quiet and contemplative.  She often spends her free time reading arcane tomes and playing chess favouring peace, quiet and a relaxed atmosphere. Violet will flirt with any female that catches her eye usually the more refined ladies or the occasional princess.

History: Violet is the youngest of seven daughters and very little was expected of her, all her sisters had seemed to have a place or some duty. Violet bored and feeling a little picked up wooden sword belonging one of her brothers and started to play at fighting. A female sellsword her father employed saw her at play and saw the way she moved. The sellsword persuaded Violets father to let her train her with the blade and what started as a bit of childish play became a calling. She was also persuaded by her mother to study magic and the time she was not training with the sword she was learning magic from a court wizard.

She went on to study under a master Sword Mage and upon completion of her training she decided to travel a while. She earned money guarding caravans and was often hired to provide extra security to young women in several royal courts giving her ample opportunity to indulge in her sexual appetites. She got a little bored of the lack of a challenge and decided to take on a job that would test her skills more.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? Violet is knowledgeable about magic in it's many forms and is a skilled a skilled Sword Mage. She has had dealings with the nobility of many places and knows much of the etiquette and many different customs.

In what way might you hinder an adventuring party?  Her hatred of Gnomes may get her into trouble and there may be an angry noble or two who found out about her activities with his wife or daughter.

What has happened to the knowledge of the world that a great library is now needed? Is there a lost repository of knowledge somewhere?
Is Nihon reached by land or is it separated by a sea?

My thought was that knowledge in general--and knowledge of magic in particular--is highly fragmented due to rivalries based on race, nationality, social class, and perhaps magical guilds and religions with competing agendas. The library would represent an attempt to pool and open this knowledge to everyone and encourage the use of magic in a responsible way through education. There would be lecture facilities devoted to things like discussing ethics, magical research, and other debates. So like a less modern university.

Whether the idea is inspired or ridiculously naïve is very much in the eye of the beholder. Maybe Mira's vision will be curtailed by harsh reality, or she will fail completely. But despite having experienced a life of poverty first hand, Mira always wants to see the best in people or at least believe that they might change.

I went with the assumption that in this world, no one has attempted a "Great Library" before. But, it could be that such a thing has been attempted in the distant past and failed. Maybe it could be an old legend, and no one knows anymore if it was based on history or just a parable against hubris. And perhaps someday the party would find evidence one way or the other.

One potential problem is that Mira's vision is secular and anti-authoritarian (in the sense that she would be providing the "common folk" with knowledge and skills to better themselves), which might upset some religions as well as the less egalitarian governments.

Nihon would be reached by sea, though not necessarily a long trip. The famine was bad enough that the "Near Eastern" lands did not want the disruption of so many newcomers, so many families like the Ishikawas were forced to keep moving until they arrived in the West or the South.

I like the first one best--the second just seems too dark for this type of game, and to me the third just feels slightly too regal even in ruins (though its not bad). The original was decent enough to get the idea across, honestly I didn't notice anything amiss until told what to look for.

I can sympathize with your problem, I never could find a picture of an elf that quite fit my original idea so I went in a slightly different direction.

The 'basic' lessons she is supposed to learn are things like... Believe in yourself, but do not be overconfident, respect others if they respect you, understand all things exist in a balance as to gain something is to loose something of equal value.

The 'enemy' I see is a large heavily Patriarchal kingdom which lies just beyond the jungle itself. Lead by a ruthless King and promoting an outlook that women are property at best, breeding stock at worst. I 'see' it as being lead by a merchant king with a ruthless court, and armies of well armed and armored men.

Okay, finished.  On to the interrogation.   ;)

Name: Surie
Species: Elf
Concept: A gentle spirit grounded in nature and knowledge
Ons: Kindness and caring, gentle creatures, books and wisdom.  Gentle (submissive) in nature but it is still possible to get her riled up. (ok so an occasional spanking isn't out of the question either.)
Offs: Cruelty and malice. Killing for the sake of killing.  Disregard for nature's creatures.

Physical Description: Small (about 4'11) and lithe.  Pale green eyes and golden hair.  Naturally pale skinned, she is  lightly tanned and her cheeks a continually tinted with a light blush.  Clothed in earth tones, she is never the less bare around her middle as well as her arms and legs.  Barefoot and light on her feet, rugged terrain rarely causes her any discomfort.  She sports a dagger at her hip though she is hardly proficient at hand to hand combat.   On her other hip is a small leather pouch in which she keeps her preferred weapon.

Personality: Quiet and gentle, Surie is hardly the kind one would expect to find in a troop off to slay anything.  Infinitely more comfortable with the creatures of the forest than she is with the more evolved and "civilized" species.  A lover of books and gentle creatures, she can spend hours buried deep in the pages of some manuscript or communing with the animals.

Close quarter combat using her dagger is a last resort for the small elf.  Her greatest offensive weapons are stealth and a small blow gun she keeps stashed in her leather pouch.  With poisoned dipped bolts the size of tooth picks she can take down a foe from thirty yards away.  She can kill an enemy in a manner of seconds or simply put them to sleep for several hours.

Surie's knowledge of naturally occurring poisons is rivaled by her knowledge the medicinal properties of the plants in the region.  Far from what one would consider a healer, she none the less has the knowledge and skills to render aid to an injured comrade. Her related knowledge of plants and herbs makes her a pretty damned good cook to though she does not enjoy it and prefers just to tell others what to do.

History: Surie is of noble birth but not a princess.  A child of Ravenwood, during its isolationist period, the young elfling had access to the vast knowledge of the elves and spent much time lost in the ancient, and not so ancient, manuscripts of her people.  She knew their histories inside and out   but nothing gave her more joy than discovering everything she could about the natural world.

Much to her father’s disapproval, Surie had a knack for “getting lost” and wandering off.  With a pack full of “borrowed” manuscripts the young elf would disappear for days at a time while explored the world outside her kingdom.  Using the maps and manuscripts from the elven troves, learned the geography and topography of the realm.  And with diagrams and descriptions from the manuscripts she learn to identify the plants on the realm and medicinal or poisonous properties they possessed.  (Another curious skill the elf seemed to have developed while in the wilderness was the ability to communicate with animals via some sort of telepathy.  Because the communication is non-verbal and the animals don’t actually do anything for her, they mostly just answer her questions, it is hard for anyone to know she is doing it and she herself will neither confirm nor deny it.)

On one of her little excursions, Surie encountered a spy from the north on her way to Crown Cape.  The pair shared a meal together consisting on nuts and berries Surie had gathered and some dried meat the spy carried.  The elf was fascinated by the weapon the spy chose to carry.  Nearly as tall as Surie herself, the spy used the long hollow tube to blow razor tipped darts at her foes.  Surie learned as much as she could about the weapon and then the two parted amiably and went their separate ways.

Surie returned home, endured the usual lecture from her father, then set about designing a blow gun of her own.  The spy’s blow gun was obviously to long for the small elf so she fashioned one about four inches long that would be easily carried and concealed.  The bolts she made from twigs not much thicker than a hay straw, sharpened to a point.  She practiced with her new weapon daily, learning its range and penetrating power.  Her very first living target was her father, with a bolt dipped in just enough of a certain poison to put him to sleep for a few hours.

On another, more recent, excursion, Surie was exploring the southern regions of the realm.  Knowing the reputation and accounts of the region the elf stayed far away from any settlements and avoided contact with any except the forest creatures.  One evening she encountered……a being….. that referred to himself only as the Tmavy Jeden.  Suruie spent weeks with the being.  She had fallen in love with him instantly, she would later tell her father.  It is unclear if the young elf partook of the being’s “dark essence” or, if she had, how much of it she retained.

In some way the Surie still does not understand, the story somehow made it to the courts and she was summoned before the king.  Before the entire court and much to her father’s shame, the young elf retold the same story she had related to her father, Kharis.  Without witness or proof the court declared her defiled by the being and the king passed judgment on the young she elf.  She was banished from the kingdom, never to return home, spending the rest of her days wandering the wilderness alone….which as it turned out was exactly where Surie wanted to be in the first place.

In what three ways would you most aid an adventuring party? Surie's knowledge of natural poisons make her a sly and covert killer.  Her skills and knowledge of medicinal plants makes her a valuable member of the team as does her stealth and ability to immobilize a foe from a distance.
In what way might you hinder an adventuring party? Surie's small size and lack of training make her a poor fighter.  A soft heart and love for all living creatures makes her reluctant to cause harm.

Good morning! We've gone a little bit over the expected number of characters, but there's always some attrition so that's okay. BeckyAnnn, once you figure out your character's history I'll have some questions for you. Afterward I'll put up a character sheet thread, an OOC where you can spank each other as much as you like, and work on getting the IC started.

So let's discuss the rating for the game.
Bondage: This is almost a given for the genre and a lot of the tastes I see in O&Os. It would be difficult to swing this kind of game without some kind of BDSM element, but it won't be mandatory either.
Non-Consensual: If defeat doesn't mean death, this could entail NC. As Chrystal has said, the NC would be against the wishes of the character, but not the player, and it would be discussed beforehand. One thing that's important is preserving the lighthearted tone of the game, so if there is NC, it won't be appropriate to deal with realistic trauma. If anyone is uncomfortable with lesbian rape behind handled in such a cavalier way, we might ought to avoid this rating.
Extreme: Dragon oviposition might be considered bestiality, or it might just be exotic. If monster loving continues to be a theme, and if actual beasts are ever going to be wanted, this is a rating to consider.

If we decide to go with a lower rating but there's later a scene that crosses it, we can simply make a new thread. A solid base, though, will ensure that the narrative doesn't become too fragmented.

Dhi

I will be using this flowery border for the portraits I'll be posting for NPCs.

Anyone want one for characters? I don't think portraits will be strictly needed for PCs, but making it is no trouble at all. I only need an image 150x200 to apply the border to.

Personally I reckon that just sticking it under the extreme tag would the easiest way to handle it, simply to stop having to change groups or anything. It does not have to happen though. Just a precaution.

Dragons are generally considered as intelligent creatures, and ought to be handled as a regular NPC rather than a "beast". On the other paw, if we go with extreme, it leaves the door open for punishing a player character by (for example) stripping her naked and strapping her underneath Loveday's griffon mount! *giggles*

Really Dhi, it depends on what sort of things you want to do. Personally, I find that treating N/C in a light-hearted way is often preferable to treating it seriously, it just depends who I'm playing with. This group, especially if that Becky person is playing, I can't see any way it could possibly get heavy!

Sticking something in Extreme is actually not always the best policy. I know it means that the thread(s) Would not need moving later, but it can also discourage players from taking part.

Personally I would go with N/C Exotic Freeform Small Groups unless actual bestiality or bathroom play is planned. Moving threads is the easiest thing staff and mods do.

Morning/Afternoon, Dhi and everyone else.

We do have quite a large group of characters, more than planned. I can easily drop out, myself. I have the least developed character of the bunch. And often enough Wednesday Chemo makes me feel like total crap and posting is difficult for a couple days a week. So to ease things up character wise I can easily back off.

Awww.  Im sure that's not what Dhi meant.

Please check out my latest A/A post.
I would rather watch a movie then have dinner than have dinner then watch a movie!

Dhi

Definitely not! Nobody needs to drop out to bring the number back down to my arbitrary range. In any group game there's attrition, life happens, we will lose some players and maybe not get them back. If you feel you should drop out for your health or because you're not really feeling the premise, then I understand. I've been looking forward to writing together again, though, so I'd like to have you on board.

Totally random question, Dhi: how do you pronounce that?

I say it as a sort nasal "D", with the hard sound of the letter softened by almost snorting a little through my nose, followed by a soft i that sounds like "ee" but shortened.

We have a lucky 7 players, don't jinx it!

ดี้ is pronounced "dee" with a falling tone. I would have registered Dee, but it was already taken (by someone who never posted and now is deleted).

ElvenKitten, some questions for you:
What was one incident where seducing a noblewoman led to a bad situation? Give names!
Where are the finest spellsword-attuned blades made, and who is their artisan?

Well there was one incident where some stuck up lord-ling caught Violet in bed with his sister who seemed unusually close with given he was sneaking into her room late at night and Violet hadn't gotten to the noisy parts yet. His Name was Renard and the lady was named Amelia

As for blades well no one does magical-attuned weapons than the elves though the blades are made in lots of places. Violet has a set of swords made by the half elf smith Jasper Steelmane who while not the greatest makes the most reliable blades.

Okay, character sheet is completed.  If there is any kind of problem, let me know and we can discuss it.

Dhi

No problems at all! Sleeping darts are well within genre, everything looks great. Some questions:
What is a place detailed in Surie's secret Ravenwood manuscripts that the rest of the free peoples have yet to find?
When Surie was banished by the elven king, what was the reaction of the soft-hearted princess who now wears the crown?

OOC thread: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=207945

Golly look at all those words. It's only an archive of what we've been talking about here, though, collected for convenience.

Approved characters: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=207943

Right now there are only NPCs. Please post your character sheets when you can, so you have total control over editing and stuff.

This weekend, the IC thread will go up, bottoms will be spanked, fireworks will happen!

There is a place, more or less exactly but not quite in vicinity of the center of the realm that, if one stands in roughly that precise spot on the night of the Drothon moon (or there abouts) and repeat the following incantation:

Drothon Drothon, wise and dull,
Take me in and lead me home,
To your halls of tarnished gold,
Resting place of fools untold.
Though wise in ignorance you may be,
Open your mind that I might see,
The riddles that confoundeth thee.

…absolutely nothing will happen.

However three paces later, in any direction the earth opens up and swallows the fool who recited the incantation.  Surie believes she has found that spot but has not yet found anyone gullible enough to stand there and recite those words.   *looks around at present company and grins.

SHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

How would you know to ask such a question?  No one knows save Surie and the princess herself.  To say the two were close as youngsters is a tremendous understatement.  They were born on the same night….the very same moment.  They were both children of the Ravenwood court and they were inseparable.  Even as young elflings there was a deeper bond between the two of them than mere friendship.  And as they grew older that bond only grew stronger.  Surie and the princess loved one another very much.

As the pair grew into adolescence a new dimension was added to the love they had for one another.  That dimension was desire.  The two longed to be together…intimately.  But they dared not risk it.  Not at home anyway.  Driven by desire, the pair slipped away one evening and Surie took the princess on one of her outings.  Surie had secretly taken the heir to the throne of Ravenwood beyond the kingdom’s borders and protection.  The pair spent two wonderful nights together before they were captured and drug back home (the details of what they did those nights remain a secret between the two of them even now).

The king was livid and demanded Surie’s head but the princess intervened and begged him to spare her friend’s life.    If the king had a soft spot at all it was for his daughter.  And so he spared Surie’s life but forbid them to see one another again outside of courtly proceedings.  If they were ever discovered together again the young elf would be put to death. And so it was that the pair never saw one another again outside of the court of nobles, for the princess would not go against her father’s will and risk the life of the elf she loved.

The two pined for one another deeply.  But whereas the princess had little more than her royal duties to occupy her time, Surie threw herself into learning.  She buried herself in ancient writings and took more and more forays into the wilderness. A habit that further angered the isolationist king.

So when Surie was brought before the king concerning her conduct with the Tmavy Jeden,  she broke the princess’ heart when she confessed her love for the dark one when in truth, as soon as she and the creature parted she had suddenly felt nothing for him but revulsion. She had to assume it was some sort of magic that drew her to him, nothing more.  But if the princess thought Surie had given her heart to another, perhaps she would do the same.

The news of the king’s death and the princess’ rise to the thrown had reached the young elf’s ear and she was sorely tempted to try and return home.  But she made up her mind to stay away.  The princess needed to be right where she was and Ravenwood needed her to right the wrongs of her father.  And Surie….she belonged right where she was…just another creature of the wilderness.

*Of course, this is just my rambling and has no baring at all on the story

SanguinePuppet

I think I may be late to this delectable cheesecake, but would there happen to be a slice remaining? I would love to partake if there's room. Obviously, I'm waiting to see if there is room before I submit a character.

Dhi

Recruitment is closed for now, with apologies. I'll open recruitment again if we find ourselves in need of another character.
