Mad Panda and myself are looking for a GM to run a Wushu: Black Belt Edition game. I was thinking   Clockwork Wuxia sample setting described in the back of the book. But game details are open for discussion.

Indeed!  I'm also heavily in favor of the Celestial setting, which is a bit later in the core book.

I'd enjoy playing too if you can find a GM.  I'd be learning as I went, though.

Zeth

That is do able. What setting do you vote for then?

Muse

i'm looking at the settings right now.

The first one--the steam punk kungfu superheroics in an alternate history where China is a colonial power-seem pretty awesome.

Pumpkin Seeds

Got the book, just kind of flipping through it.

Zeth

Would you be interested in Directing or Playing?

Pumpkin Seeds

Probably play since I just now found out the rules even exist.

Zeth

Right, I'll be Director then.

Zeth

Well it looks like Muse isn't writing a plot. So here is mine!

How the East was Won (page 168.)

On the American west coast, a megalomaniac governor has carved a personal kingdom out of the Rocky Mountains. He rules from a fortified locomotive, a monstrosity of steel and steam born from his own designs. His right-hand man is a cyborg called the Angel of Knives (run with that in any direction you like). The people under his dominion are mostly indentured servants, but they dream of independence.

Enter our heroes. Maybe your character has a score to settle with the governor? Maybe they are just against corruption in general? Or maybe they just want to put foot steam powered foot to ass!

We are using standard character generation rules. Your sheet will look like this.

Name:
5 Motivation:
4 Action!
3 Profession

Background:

You may choose a weakness to help flesh out your character, but it is optional.

Muse

This sounds like a great story line.  Sorry I wasn't fast enough for you.  I'll dg into the character generation version fo the game when I get home.

MadPanda

Name: Sanniang
Motivation: Filial Piety in Direct Action 5
Action!: Ten Feet of Steel Bear Style 4
Profession: Vaquera 3
Weakness: Half-blooded foreign demon woman 1

Background:  Sanniang is a big lass...nearly six feet of powerfully built, freckle-faced, big-nosed, round-eyed, grotesquely blonde woman.  Her sire is properly Chinese.  Her mother?  Nobody's quite sure, but whoever she was, she was big.  And like mother, like daughter.  The Ten Feet of Steel wears a rugged sleeveless tunic, bracers, heavy leggings, and low soft boots.  She carries two long blades in crossed scabbards on her back--not proper Chinese blades.  These are something else, and the ornamentation on them matches the brilliant red and yellow tattoos that wind up her arms.

What is known is that her father was of noble blood, cast out for some imaginary slight or other and sent into exile in the Uttermost East across the waters.  He returned some years later to bring his villainous Clan to justice...and failed.  Fleeing ahead of the Clan assassins, he managed to ensure his wife and daughter were sent to safety before he was killed in a vicious duel that is still talked about in martial arts circles to this day.  Now his half-blooded daughter has taken it upon herself to do a son's duty.

Her style, Ten Feet of Steel Bear, is largely a sword style with footwork reminiscent of Tiger and Crane kungfu.  It is powerful, brutal, and it reflects her nickname all too accurately.  She usually fights with one of those broadswords in each hand.

When she isn't playing with shy little tea girls, drinking away her cares, or stomping the crap out of mooks, she's a fully proficient ranch-hand and range-rider.  Granted, she can't pull off some of the nimbler tricks known to Mongol and Tsung-niu, since she's too big for a nimble Mongolian pony, but she's quite capable in the saddle.

If she has a weakness, it lies in two spheres.  First, the social: she's obviously an outsider, and she acts accordingly.  Sincere courtesy is usually met with her rougher variant, but otherwise she assumes that normal people hold her in contempt because of parents she didn't ask to have.  Second, the physical: she's larger than most men, so chairs are too small, doors are too short, cups are too fragile.  And she's not terribly good at hiding in a crowd.

Would a Native American styled character be out of line?  Just like the whole knife and axe sort of feel that might provide along with the hunting background with a bow.

Zeth

Name: Kang the Mad
Motivation: Reclaim his work from the Hack Tao 5
Action!: Raging Fool! 4
Profession: Gewu Scholar 3
Weakness: Ignoring those in need 1

Background: Kang is a traveling Gewu Scholar determined to unlock the secrets of the Tao by exploring the world and testing his inventions and ideas in the field. His inventions tend to be destructive in nature. Despite this he managed to attract a single apprentice though. To his dismay the lout stole his research and tries to pass it off as his own original work. This Hack Tao used Kang's ideas to create the Governor's fortified train and most of the  Governor's armaments. This clearly can not stand!

Kang's fighting style Raging Fool combines the Gewu Scholar's Empty Hand with Zui quan (Drunken Kung Fu). This creates a very unpredictable style that confuses the opponent yet is devastatingly effective. To the casual onlooker it looks like Kang is just insane.

Kang has always had trouble turning away some one truely in need when asked for help. Though many chose not to ask for his 'help' usually causes more damage.

OOC: This is a quick character I made as an example. Feelfree to use him for yourself or inspiration for your own idea.

No, it would not be out of place. The setting is basically China settled America instead of Europe. I imagine there are plenty of Native Americans that would have a vendetta against the Governor or wish to protect the people he steps on.

#19

Name: Jianyu
http://Motivation: Governor Shan has stolen his work and used it to abuse the innocent.  This cannot be allowed to continue.  5
Action!: Electric knight! 4
Profession: Gewu Scholar 3
Weakness: Leacherous 1

Background: A Gewu Scholar and mandarin, Jianyu is the son of an Imperial bureaucrat from Hong Kong, working innovations in steam tech and electricity while practicing kung fu and tai chi chaun for health and enlightenment.

After seducing and fathering a bastard upon a higher ranking man's beautiful daughter, Jianyu was sent to the new world to "continue his studies into electricity free from the distractions of big city life."

Governer Shan got word of Jianyu's advanced work in electricity--both as a power source and as a weapon.  When Jianyu proved unwilling to share that work, Shan planted an Irish woman--a beautiful redhead named Min McGavody--into his employ.  Min subtly flirted with Jianyu and slowly yielded to his inevitable advances.  She won his trust as well as his lust.  Jianyu shared most of his innovations with her, including the location of his notes.  One night, after bringing him drugged wine, Min exhausted Jianyu with a night of vigorous lovemaking and--while he slept for the better part of a night and a day--stole his designs and prototypes, then fled to the Rockies to teach Governer Shan what she'd learned and take her place among his minions as a Tao Hacker now called Mistress Thunder.

Upon discovering what had happened, Jian gathered what hadn't been ransacked from his workshop and constructed himself an armor and a variety of electronic weapons before embarking upon a quest to defeat Governer Shan and recover his notes before Governer Shan can create the Storm Hammer, a super weapon capable of leveling entire cities Jianyu had designated while studying how to harness naturally occurring electricity to power electronic systems.

#20
Name: Sayen
Motivation: Vengeance for her People 5
Action!:  Spirit of the Wendigo style 4
Profession: Huntress 3
Weakness:  Stranger in her own lands 1

Background: Life was never meant to be easy, but never meant to be like this.  A hunter and a warrior, Sayen was meant to provide for her people and keep their honor.  She was not meant to wash their blood from her hands and serve the man who painted her face with their ashes.  The railroad was not to be stopped though.  Instead of resisting, the men were cut down and the women forced into chains to help construction.  That lack of understanding kept her alive and kept her strong so that she could escape and bring the vengeance of her ancestors down on the heads of the governor, his men and his cursed Angel of Knives.

The fighting art of her people is one blended in tradition and in practicality.  Chinese styles merged into warrior ways to produce a style to honor the spirit of the cannibal spirit, Wendigo.  Swift like the winter wind, brutality efficient like the beasts of the land and dazzling beautiful to watch like the lights of the Northern sky the style was well named.  Instruments of the people are of primary use as practitioners find tomahawk, knife and body to greater effect.  Movements are meant to confuse while a true strike slips into place, much like an ambush being played over and over again.

A hunter provides and a hunter gives honor to Nature whom provides.  Trained in the arts of the bow and spear, in the skills of stealth and stalking the woman called Sayen was trained by the best trackers of her people.  She possesses skills honed by years of training and need.

Sayen is from these lands, but they have changed.  Strangers outnumber her people and their customs are mysterious to her.  Like finding home to be inhabited by strangers, she struggles to adjust.

Okay looks like we can start. What section you want this game in?

Muse

Given my experience playing with M.P. in the past, probably Bondage.

Yes, please.  NC is not my thing. And a happy little teahouse brawl to start things off would be nice!
