Harry Potter and the Rise of the Light

That year was supposed to be the end of everything. We were about to head towards Hogwarts to end it all. We were to find a horcrux and face Voldemort. We were late. The Light, as we call ourselves, had already destroyed two horcruxes before we broke the locket. And the break in to Gringotts was hardly a quiet affair. So when Bellatrix alerted her master of the loss of another horcrux, Riddle didn’t hesitate to move on the final hold of the light, the castle meant for learning where he had stored one of his many horcruxes, Hogwarts. He couldn’t risk losing another and having the target come closer to him. Nagini after all was usually close by at all times and her death would mean four pieces of his soul obliterated. Not even including if they did manage to destroy the goblet or the diadem.

This RP was inspired by this group of pictures. This is the timeline that is set in stone as of right now:

• Gringotts Bank was robbed by the Golden Trio. However, instead of heading to Hogsmead, they lay low for a few days. This was a mistake.

• Voldemort attacks the castle, intending to reclaim his diadem. Knowing Harry is not in the castle due to the Horcrux in Harry, he doesn’t wait and instead storms the Castle immediately and without warning. Details of the battle are unknown as of yet. Casualties unknown.

Currently we're going to be looking for Death Eaters/Dark characters (canon and OCs), and Ron. I want to keep this balanced for now so 7 total Death Eaters will have to be accepted before we begin as I already have one OC who's on the side of Light. Keep in mind that this will be an International RP. The main focus in the beginning will be Britain, but keep in mind that for the purposes of this RP, Britain is essentially lost save for the underground rebellion. Foreign supporters may come in, and maybe another group could even attempt to ally themselves with old Tom. Just tossin plot bunnies out there.

I have a co-GM: KCKolbe. This is intended as a long running RP running years of Game Time. As such elements I wish to implement: Torture and Non-con. I intend for people to get caught at some point or another. If you don't want to play it out, I will ask, you will decline, and we will say it happened and that's perfectly fine. You do not have to participate in the scenes, just accept that they happened.

That being said:

• This will be in the Non-Con section


• When I open this up for OC’s, All gender types and Sexualities will be accepted.


• Canon Players: I expect you to have fun. These kids are going into what we expect to be college age. Any experimentation you want to have, as long as it’s mutual between players, go for it.


• This RP is not a sex RP: This is meant to be highly emotional situation so sex will happen. It’s not the focus. Story/Character Development is.


• See this page for the system I am using. All characters will have to make a sheet and I will allot points based appropriately based on Canon backstory or Age/experience for OCs. Any flaws or advantages not in the system yet let us know and we will discuss adding them.[/color]


• A minimum post requirement of once a week (barring emergencies and the like) will be implemented. I will ask after one week of no posting (if you’re not waiting for someone else) if something’s going on/check A/As. To CLARIFY, if I don't hear something back within a week of no posting, I will assume that you are no longer interested and start recruiting again, especially if I see you around E. Might assume CPU troubles for an extra week, but after that and still no contact, I will have to drop you.

I would like them to be similar at least in the basics. Obviously whoever's Harry is gonna have a lot of work because there are more details given to his thought process but... I'm more concerned about base aspects of personality being there versus minute details. I'd like known cannon feelings to be there initially.... But players are more than welcome to change things especially as characters grow. (Like I expect Ron to like hermione. His reasoning can be whatever but that should be there. That type of thing.) Draco I kinda want to be a budding blood traitor but we can take that however slowly that player likes. Who you thinking about Ember?

Everything up until just after the Gringott's escape on the dragon is cannon! I expect the Cannons to be played similar to however you interpreted the characters at this point.

I suppose I'll say this now, because I've seen really silly things in my times, there will be no bashing of the Weasleys as characters please. This goes for all characters. So far, all of the cannons are expected to be on the same side with the exception of Draco in the beginning. And more importantly, we're expecting them to be on the same side in the long run (barring IC events of course). These are our good guys. :)

I honestly don't know how big a thing sex is actually going to be. Like I said, most of this will be plot driven. Kissing and such, sure. Sex might just end up being something that two players do in their inboxes. It depends on who we get.

On that note, we're probably going to end up going with a system similar to one that KCKolbe has used in the past. He's agreed to assist me with modding it for now. He will also be Co-GM.

OCs will be given a base amount of points to play with where as Canons will just be told to roll dice and I will have numbers set up for them. (Because let's face it, Harry and gang had plot armor out the butt.)

Systems will simply be easier than me deciding on a whim if you are captured or not, especially considering that this is going to be a war. People will be captured and no one will be safe. Sneaking and recon will be a big deal and combat will definitely happen, including aerial combat.

A lot of it will be Freeform, and I have worked in the system and KC was the one who created it. I don't mind answering any questions anyone might have especially once we get going. We only have the three Cannons and two OCs so we still have time before we even get started. Plenty of times for questions. :)

I have run several people through character creation who had never played systems with this system, play tested out a lot of combat, and over the past year, the only changes that needed to be made were to balance out academic subjects.  We will be adding new advantages and disadvantages that fit the setting, and I will consider custom ones as well.

DADA is an odd class, as it combines spellcasting with practical knowledge.  The spellcasting portion is covered under Magical Expertise, and the academic bit was fairly minor, not being worth an ability.

We're going to be balancing characters a lot to make it fair to other players. See my Hermione sheet... which is fairly underpowered for her as she should have 5s in pretty much all her classes... and a higher magical projection as my girlfriend pointed out to me (via the examples of her Wards and her spells in general) at which point I had to tell her it was balanced Hermione.

I'm considering around 28 or 30ish, which is a decently powerful character, but you'll be slower on gaining points. I believe you mentioned being in the same Auror class as the Marauders?

Well I was deciding between someone of that age as the Marauders and has been away or a retired Auror whom would more likely be 65~ish.

I'll be better able to figure out how many points when I get an idea of how much age and experience your character will have. But go with 28 for now.

28 is a solid starting place.  Depending on the feel of the character, he may have more points, but at the expense of Destiny Points.  Completely up to you.

K, so my lovely co-gm has agreed that if we get any bites for Draco, he will play Ron. As such, I'm putting the character up there for grabs again. As soon as either of these positions are filled, I will be ready to start almost immediately.

Be advised, I will be on vacation from the 28th to the 1st and do not know what my internet status will be. Hopefully we can get started before then, but if not, I will likely start the 2nd or 3rd.

Voldemort is definitely needed.  He is the leader of the Death Eaters, after all.  I can't remember if Lucius was wanted, but I do remember seeing Narcissa on her "wish list" so it is possible.

Considering she was in azkaban for so long..... classes may not be as relevant considering her insanity. On the other hand she may still be skilled with runes or care of magical creatures. It really depends. So far we've been utilizing the wiki to fill in unknowns. If it has any insights into her years at hogwarts, use that. If not use best judgment. Or even what you like.

Under normal circumstances that would be beneficial. Like I'd expect Bill's runes skill to be like a 5 or 6, higher than most students could possibly achieve. Snape would've likewise had a ridiculous potions score. Bellatrix just has the issue of azkaban.

Unfortunately, no canonical core or wood. As such.... Have fun? I'd go for something similar to her original wand, but maybe like an inch off or something. Walnut and Dragon heartstring I think would be common enough that she could find something that feels familiar off of one of her many kills.

Im  still not sure about the classes for her  even more so because it does not really mention her time at Hogwarts in her background. Im going to try my best to guess what they would have been but not sure how many point will go into them.

Charms and Curses seem particularly important to her.  If I had to guess which academic subjects mattered to her, I'd guess along the lines of CoMC for some reason, possibly History of Magic as well.

I honestly wouldn't mind her not having any points what so ever in her classes. Just because it makes sense that she'd lose a lot of her skills over the time as far as the classes go. Most of the Classes, if you noticed, are book knowledge more than spell casting knowledge. I'd think if Bella had skills in Runes or Arithmacy, she might have lost a fair amount of that knowledge over time. I also think of spell casting to be more intuitive but that's just me. She also may be gaining more of her knowledge back over time as well. I personally would put her majors as Runes (simply because I think that's something lacking explicitly in Voldie's army) and.... either Care of Magical Creatures or Arithmacy. She would have Others as Muggle studies (obviously), History of Magic, Divination, and Astronomy, perhaps? Minors could be Potions, Herbology and either Care or Arithmacy. I also am of the opinion that Bellatrix was fairly intelligent, even if a bit obsessive, before she went to Azkaban, so take my suggestions as you will. :)

All I have to say to the History of Magic is Binns. It takes a special kind of personality to enjoy History of Magic after going through his class, even if it does kind of make sense considering the Black family.

Very true, Chaosfox.  Basically, just try to pick things that seem consistent with the character.  If there is a seeming gap or inconsistency, make the decision based on what you want to play.  And yeah, Drawbacks shouldn't be too hard.  You'll have a lot of good Qualities to choose from, though.
