Actually, no TV at all for the past year and a half - and I can't remember any specific shows off the top of my head (I think one was a documentary on poisonous animals, and more than half of the entries were from Down Under).

This guy has something that looks very much like an ipad, even though the video is thirty years old. Sometimes Down Under has been a futuristic place. Great band, too.

Male, heterosexual, don't look "Muslim," have a job, the good ol' days weren't so great, unmarried, parents are US citizens, "No" to Michael Gove.

Hated in only 8 questions.

Same for me. Exactly the same. And I even live in the UK.

But the question shouldn't be How much does the Mail hate you. It should be How much do you hate the Daily Mail (or Daily Fail as it's called too).

But, having said all that, they have the absolute best TV magazine in Britain, so I'm obliged to pay for the paper, to get that TV mag. Most of the times I leave the paper at the shop. Always gets me stunned looks. 'Don't you want the paper, sir?' "No thanks, it's bad, I don't like it, you can have it".

TheGlyphstone

Huh. I took the test again, now that I have a job, and managed to only be Loathed. I'm sad now.

You could always reconsider your opinions on wind farms and the 'good old days'...  Or apply to work at the BBC!

(There aren't too many options on that quiz that many people have choices about - I picked a couple at random.)

The Daily Mail got the blame for it but I actually think that was somewhat unfair.

I should start by saying that I generally detest the Mail and I actually dislike defending it because there's so much dislikable about it. As a general rule it represents the worst of the regressive gutter press and arguably the only thing that can really be said to be positive about it (outside the TV guide) is that it wasn't as deeply involved in hacking as the News International papers... and a large part of that is because it simply doesn't do any real journalism, instead waiting to find something to be outraged about and then being outraged. Likewise Richard Littlejohn, the author of the piece in question is a deeply unlikeable person, a reactionary right winger who writes for the lowest common denominator and tries to defend his prejudice behind the cloak of "common sense".

But I didn't think the piece that got the attention is that bad. I disagree almost utterly with it and his arguments but they are in of themselves reasonable arguments. He didn't attack Lucy Meadows for transitioning, he didn't attack the NHS for funding (at least partially) her transition and he didn't attack her for being a teacher or continuing her teaching career post-transition. He questioned whether it was right for a teacher who had previously lived and acted as a male in front of young children to continue to teach those same children having transitioned and whether this was difficult or harmful for the children. As I say, I disagree with him utterly but I don't think it's an unreasonable argument to make and I don't think it constitutes bullying, despite some crude language.

I also note that in Miss Meadow's suicide note she makes no mention of the press, instead referring to her debts, a number of recent deaths of those close to her and stress from her job. She had also told her therapists that while the press coverage was stressful she'd found it easier than she'd expected. While the coroner did single out the Daily Mail for criticism they were officially rebuked for doing so.

Considering the vile, open and far worse transphobia that semi-regularly appears on The Guardian/Observer... normally held up as one of, if not, the leading liberal/progressive/mildly left wing papers, I think the criticism of the Mail for that article alone was somewhat overblown... it was simply a stick to beat the Mail with and while it does deserve a good beating I don't think that article was quite worthy of one.

If that is true then the acticles I read misrespented the incident, all made it seem like it was the main reason for her death. Though I still think the original article was transphobic piece of bullshit. "Knowing about us destroys the innocence of children," isn't as bad some hateful drivel I have heard, but it is bad and extremely dehumanising.

I also didn't know about the transphobia of those other respected newspaper. Sad  :-(

Having lived in England for 7 years now, I never stop surprising myself about how bad English newspapers are. Even the Times, seen as a quality newspaper, is below par, comparing it to mainland Europe's papers.

To put the Mail in context, it gets refered to as either the Daily Wail or the Daily Fail by it's critics. And the Times is hampered because it's a Murdoch paper.
The on remaining quality newspapers are The Grauniad, The Torygraph and The Independent and even there the quality varies.

Not quite - you're male.  ;D

*stands in line expecting to get face slapped by the Mail*

Are they even a worthy target of our hate in return?

It all went so well until they started asking about where my parents was born and if I were married, and then it just snowballed rather quickly. Oh well, being hated by the Daily Mail are probably a good thing.

Skynet

I'm kind of surprised myself that Rupert Murdoch doesn't own the Daily Mail.  Ideologically the two seem to be peas in a pod.

On that note, what's the Daily Mail's opinion on Fox News, and vice versa?  Do they mostly see eye to eye, or do they view each other as "bloody Yanks/Socialist Brits!"

I'm hated, yay. I think I might've cheated, too. I mean, I don't "look muslim" by any sort of reasonable standard, but by virtue of my Central-European, I have skin that's somewhat darker than the typical northern European. In other words, I look like I might have some immigrant in me ( I do! ), and ... well, maybe that's enough to the good people at the Daily Mail.

Oniya

If it's any consolation, you might've gotten docked on one of the later questions.  How far did you get before hitting the mark?

Well apparently the only things they like about me are that I'm a white, heterosexual, man :p Beyond that they hate me with a burning passion. To be honest, if they're anything like I imagine them to be then I'm glad they hate me.

Remiel

I misread the Michael Gove question as, "Are you Michael Gove?"
